6:00 pm
were there, do not be a miscreant when writing to us. thanks for watching tonight, i am bill o'reilly please always are members of the spin stops right here. we are definitely looking out for you. >> tucker: good evening and welcome to "tucker carlson tonight" ." trump's presidency is now in the third week and the battle to push to his agenda is relentless ferocity. the ninth circuit court of appeals will continue to block his order on immigration. we will discuss that with piers morgan in just a minute. with each passing day, more between the press and the president grows more intense. today, the president tweeted this. this morning, he tweeted this.
6:01 pm
one media outlet with a particularly antagonistic relationship toward the president is cnn, the cable news network, which labeled trump figures more than once. piers morgan is editor at large for dailymail.com. he is a former phase of cnn. he won "celebrity apprentice" back when a certain person was a hose. piers morgan, thank you for joining us. >> good judgment he has. >> tucker: i always forget that. what a cool thing to have on your cv. i remember well when you were the face of cnn. i watched her show a lot. i always thought you were straightforward. you left three years ago since then thanks to wikileaks, if you a lot of detail about them colluding with the democratic party. were you shocked by it. i don't know hide directly they
6:02 pm
were what was happening with donald was some innate people of all. it, frankly. it brought to light donald trump's main thief with the media, which is that a question of respect and honesty. he has felt for quite some time, i think, that a lot of people in the mainstream media, for want of a better phrase, are absolutely determined to bring him down. i think these are the points, i think some of them absolutely are. they were first hillary clinton. their candidate didn't win, and now they are actually determined to bring that trump presidency crashing down. you have a war between the media into the white house. the like of which i have certainly never seen before. it's pretty dangerous all around. it >> tucker: i think there is a difference though between having a perspective and stating it clearly as you do, as i tried to. in a subterranean way. correlating with a political
6:03 pm
party, we learn the wiki links or what she got the debate questions ahead of time. found a director was consulted by cnn for questions to ask ted cruz. a clinton staffer implied that the politics producer at cnn was a friend and ally. they have a chief political analyst at cnn saying you are a tv start, i've been in g.o.p. hell. it really seems like there is a special connection between cnn and that party. did you notice that when you work there? >> to be honest and to be fair to cnn, i have spent four years there. i think the vast majority of state and end, the anchors, have integrity. i don't think they want to be party to any of this kind of stuff, but it if i think there were people that lower down the food chain at the didn't have such scruples and were absolutely determined that trump would win. there in mind, the history of
6:04 pm
this, from the moment that donald trump decided to run. he was for about four or five months the only one in town. cnn and all the other networks were racing to get him as much air time as he could possibly give him. this, of course, fuels the monster. then when the moment came, oh god, he might actually win, they thought we have to kill him off. by then, trump, the nominate was gone. he was off and racing around america. he became unstoppable, and i knew him the last few months that campaign. places like "the new york times," frankly, were a complete disgrace. they weren't even pretending to be anything but in the hillary clinton. i saw that a pretty obscene to watch as a journalist. "new york times" and others now to be saying for us, we are the innocent parties here, donald trump is he not violating the media and breaking down
6:05 pm
the first amendment and so on. it's pretty rich giving the way that they conducted themselves is this a posted paper of record. i think that there is fault on both sides here. i think it is dangerous and toxic, and i think that the media have got to start showing president trump a bit more respect. he intern and his white house operation have got to show the media a bit more respect and they got to move on. >> tucker: certainly impounds for them to call out politicians. i don't have any problems with reporter saying prove what you say. if the orientation that is shocking. it does seem like a lot of journalists either bro, not to report the news, but to affect the outcome of the election. has that changed in the decades he been in the business? >> look at me, look at britain for example. we've been very free press and you have papers that are obviously partisan to political parties. it's pretty balanced on the middle. there is many left-wing papers
6:06 pm
in britain as our right wing. in america, what i don't like, is this pretense from tape? papers like "the new york times" that somehow that they are completely beyond any reproach when it comes to their coverage, that they are completely neutral, they are not neutral. i remember the middle of the campaign picking up "the new york times" and renting it from cover to cover. there were 11 different stories and letters and comments op-ed pieces about donald trump and that one addition of "the new york times." every single one of them was hostile to trump. including for out of for's letters. that is not a commitment. we are seeing general here but we are seeing with the post for exit, leaving europe. i did not vote brexit. i voted to stay. have a free democratic election in a free democracy be at the europe referendum or be at the u.s. election here. when somebody wins, they win.
6:07 pm
you have to accept that they have one. you have to stop the squealing, the wailing the teeth gnashing. what we are seeing briton, just as we are seeing in america, it is one of the great hissy fits of modern political times. i never once just got back wailing and coming together, as we saw a little bit at the super bowl. start putting america before their own self interest. >> tucker: by america, you mean the basic precept of the country which is democracy and the people administering the democracy. they don't really believe in democracy. the idea as long as majority supports it. speed up to speak of it is the essence of democracy. i would be more or less than write them short many of your viewers they cleaned my conference at cnn. i'm not a traditional conservative. i'm appalled by the behavior by so many liberals right now.
6:08 pm
i think it is so alien to the concept of being a liberal. they bang on about being a democracy, they bang on about being tolerant, about fairness, and yet they are behaving in exactly the same way that they warned us all thatand his suppoe if and when, they assume, they lost. i just don't think you can do that. knowing trump as i have for ten years, very well, it is completely the wrong way to go about trying to defeat him. if i was on the left, i would surely by now you trying to work out how we lost to somebody like donald trump who is a nonpolitician, he wasn't even a guy with any military experience. he came out of nowhere as a business guy and a tv star, and he's become the president of the united states. how has that happened? the reality is that for all the fact that you talk about barack obama being this wonderful president, actually, in the polls before the election, over 70% of americans said they were unhappy with the direction in our country. hillary clinton was a terrible
6:09 pm
candidate who also did nothing new, nothing fresh, and i was doing a documentary series around florida and texas throughout last year. i spent a lot of time in those states. i could feel the trump phenomenon as it was happening in real-time, and it really came down to this. they thought that donald trump cared about the stuff they actually cared about, and that is how he managed to resonate. he won, and he won fair and square. my message to the left is, if you want to try and beat donald trump, do it democratically and stop trying to delegitimize him, stop trying to make every tweet, every statement, every, he says the armageddon of the world, and try and apply some rational political sense to defeating opponent. appeared to be what we do on his show. i think a lot of americans look to europe in the uk as it has changed an awful lot in the last four years. this is a regular visitor to
6:10 pm
your country and others. it hasn't gotten better. part of the reason it hasn't gotten better is because of the immigration policies in your. they are more divided, they are more dangerous, they are less happy, they are. how do we make that not happen here? >> let me first say that i am absolutely agree with donald trump that the threat from islamic terrorism is very real and very dangerous. he's quite right to fight what is happening in paris, in these, in brussels. examples of where the massive amount of migration through europe has created a lot of turmoil, a lot of unease, a lot of insecurity amongst the people. because no one is really quite sure who all these people are, where they are coming from, what their motivation is. donald trump is absolutely right, i believe, to want to protect america as his number one mission statement right now.
6:11 pm
he is absolutely right to say that the islamic state is a real and very dangerous threat to america. he's absolutely right certainly to look at what's happened in europe to say how do we avoid what is happen there, particularly in germany were a million people being led into the country and all hell breaking loose. how do we stop that coming to america? it is in the implementation of his van where i disagree with him because it does not include countries like saudi arabia and pakistan and egypt, which have so much terrorism. i also didn't like the idea of people with green cards being detained and threatened with deportation. i didn't like that. >> tucker: they pull back on that pretty quick. >> there were things are wrong about it. this was the key point. while they are all screaming at donald trump, i say to them, what is your idea? the main idea from the left appears to be we've all got to talk more to the community, that's all fine. but while you were talking, i feel like right now, planning attacks on the british mainland
6:12 pm
the british mainland, and they . i think donald trump is right in his concern, and he is just, probably, slightly wrong in the way that he's executed it. let's all get so pious that we put the accent donald trump and our hatred on him before the real threat, which is people trying to kill and maim and behead us. >> tucker: that isn't bracing reminder. piers morgan, thank you for joining us tonight. the trump white house is appealing the court ruling halting its van. the appeal will be heard tomorrow. we go to fox news correspondent, trace gallagher, with the latest. >> a three judge panel tonight will hear about the argument over the phone at 3:00 p.m. it is legal but wait, they contend the president has access to the -- the state asked the court to take the extraordinary
6:13 pm
step of second-guessing a formal national security judgment made by the president himself, pursuant to statutory authority. the judge panel which could rule as early as tomorrow includes two democrats consider a moderately liberal and a george w. bush appointee considered moderately conservative. this is the same can circuit that once ruled the nation under god. it should be taken out of the close allegiance, and also ban nativity scenes from public park in southern california. meanwhile, during his first visit to centcom in tampa, florida, president trump reiterated his disdain for the media and support for the troops, saying he is 100% behind the military in their fight against radical islamic terrorism. the president also indicated some terror attacks are not being covered by the media. watch. >> all over europe, it's happening. it's gotten to a point where it's not even being reported.
6:14 pm
and in many cases, it's a very dishonest press does not want to report it. they have their reasons, and you understand them. >> the white house offered 78 examples to support the president's claim. we are checking to see if any were not covered. mr. trump also dismissed the polls that show his immigration policies are unpopular, calling them fake news, saying instead, he relies on his internal numbers "i call my own shots. or two based on the accumulation data and everyone knows it. some fake news media in order to marginalize lies." the president is getting pushback from some republicans for equate vladimir putin's morality to the united states. florida senator marco rubio tweeting... senate majority leader mitch mcconnell also said, we don't operate like russia.
6:15 pm
tucker. >> tucker: trace gallagher, thanks a lot. coming up next, the mayor of new orleans says protecting illegal aliens from the feds makes new orleans a lot safer. a crime in that city has searched dramatically in the last year. we will tell us what he is not changing course. also, president trump just had a big interview with bill o'reilly. we will discuss with the president has to say about vladimir putin and why. when my doctor told me i have age-related macular degeneration, amd, he told me to look at this grid every day. and we came up with a plan to help reduce my risk of progression, including preservision areds 2. my doctor said preservision areds 2 has the exact nutrient formula the national eye institute recommends to help reduce the risk of progression of moderate to advanced amd after 15 years of clinical studies. preservision areds 2. because my eyes are everything.

6:18 pm
>> tucker: president trump is pushing hard to stamp out century city's policies. they must drop them or lose federal funding.
6:19 pm
he will call his city of century city, but nevertheless, new orleans has many policies tl immigrants. police cannot be required by the immigration status, they won't detain illegal aliens at the request prior ration of i.c.e. crime is surging in new orleans in the last year. the question is, is it working? mayor, thank you for joining us. >> how are you? >> tucker: i am great. of course, i knew you and all my friends think you are good mayor, you care about new orleans. you are a popular mayor. how is this policy helping the people of your city? >> you misstated something in the beginning of it, and let me just say this i think you and i and everybody can agree that the first order of business is to agree that the people live in america are safe and secure. that's what everybody's priority is. we are trying to figure out a way to get that done. what's interesting about the sanctuary city arguments is that it's not a definitive
6:20 pm
definition. it means a lot of things to a lot of different people. essentially, i want to be really clear about this, should the new orleans police department released anyone for a violent crime, our job is to put them in jail and make sure i.c.e. knows about it so they can come get them and deport them or have them prosecuted here and put in jail. that really has never been a bone of contention for anybody that list in the city of new orleans. for mayors across america either. >> tucker: mei li taken advice from a from a city was to? i got the numbers are here. your murder rate has almost doubled from january of last year. your up almost every category. it's increased by 10% overall. i'm not saying it's your fault. i'm saying the policies that you said will only be heaven. is there any actual evidence, like social science, to prove that you're talking point, which i've heard a thousand times,
6:21 pm
where you get the? >> all the questions. let me respond to that one. first of all, in the city of new orleans, from 1996 until today, crime is half what it used to be. as a matter of fact, two years ago we had our lowest murder rate in 40 years. you are right that in the last year, crime has gone back up, but if you look at these policies. but wait, let me finish. you said you were going to let me finish. secondly, these policies, these particular policies have nothing to do with that particular crime because the people that are committing those crimes are not folks that are here illegally. now, we do have a challenge for all of america on issues of violence that we really got to get a handle on. the question gets to be how do you actually do that and what is the best way? to answer to your second question is how do i know this, is there any empirical data? i rely on my generals in the field, and evokes guys in the american cities are the major police chase across america
6:22 pm
along with the maser sheriff association who always have told us. if you guys make us become the deportation force for i.c.e., we are going to put all these individuals back in the shadows and it's going to make us harder for us to solve crimes. >> tucker: i wrote a book on this actually, years ago. i heard this line many times, but we study crime. their armies of criminals in american universities, and no one has shown that your claim is true. that's my only point. we don't axley know that's true. that's an opinion of a lot of people for sure. >> if these policies are meant to make your city saver, what has become more dangerous? >> it's a good question. it's a great question. one of the reasons why cities become unsafe is because number one, we don't have enough police officers on the street. number two, we don't invest efficiently and mental health, substance abuse treatment. number three, the federal government does not have direct authority to get the back as with bonds of top?
6:23 pm
off the street. there isn't enough coordination. we did the same things we did back in 1996 where we put that crime plan together. without the bad parts of the crime bill. you would actually be able to reduce crime on the streets. this is not necessarily gathered to the issue of migration. by the way, if you can find anybody -- you asked me a question and answer that is the answer let me just finish this point for you, if you can find anybody in america that has definitively found at the answer to young kids killing young kids over inconsequential things who don't have a job, who don't have an appropriate education, we need to make a huge investment in those kinds of things and not let it get caught up in the issue of immigration. let me just finish with this. the thing that makes me so sad about. >> tucker: maybe they are ties? in some cities that are tied. in los angeles that is directly related to one another. nobody denies that. that's not always true.
6:24 pm
>> that's correct. nothing is always true. in all circumstances, every state is different. this is a complicated problem. the answer is not as simple as what is coming out of the white house. it pains me because i think the country is in a moment. we could actually get this done in a weight that was positive for everybody with everybody making sacrifices. we do seem to be battling with each other about it. >> tucker: a lot of what you say is true. very quickly, in the interest of civil discourse, you issued a press release in which he described presence plan and immigration temporarily from those seven countries, and i am quoting, "un-american and unchristian close will. sound like something the pope would say. you are a mirror. do you think about the policies in moralism whether or not they are christian? >> let me say this, i am a person of faith. i was raised in the catholic faith and i actually think a lot of the people are saying in terms of what americans values are really important. it is not other values as well.
6:25 pm
about whether we need to be an open group or whether we need to be closed, being able to reach out to people. one of the challenges ahead with the president, who i know is trying to do the right thing, is he seems to solve every problem with a battle ax and not with a scalpel. we had a couple of difficult ten days. it >> tucker: un-american, unchristian? that is not a scalpel either. who says that? >> first of all, i think the american values support reaching out to people and trying to help them rather than trying to punish them, working through issues, not saying for example, that is very interesting. we will finish it another time. i want to come back and talk to you. i am happy to be here. >> tucker: thank you mr. mayor, great talking to you. you. up next, one california politician wants to make russia hacking the 16 election a

6:31 pm
election and its impact on foreign policy, to make sure that we have an american century ahead of us we've had behind us when we are in full control of its destiny. >> tucker: okay. i think you're right, actually. the point is we don't understand the effect of russia in the election. the war of 1812 was a long time ago. we have perspective. we have no perspective of what happen, and basically what you are suggesting is adding propaganda from a pocket neck politician into textbooks. they had an assessment where they agreed that the russian government and of vladimir putin himself had the boldest move ever and in the election. this will have an impact on american foreign policy, but we have a president who has the least curious man on the planet of this issue. he wants to change the results of the election by saying he won by a landslide, he wants to change the number of people that

6:33 pm
would condemn that interference, and i would say that they would be held accountable and that their impact would not be on foreign policy other than that. the president has done everything he can to deny it, but what he was confronted with the incontrovertible evidence of the intelligence committees assessment, even he had to agree that they were involved. >> tucker: you are from marin county. i live in california, angry rich people come up to you at counties and say we got to do something about this trump character, he's terrible. i get the pressure that you are under. >> i am highly educated and highly engaged. >> tucker: i get it, completely. but let me just ask you, how would you feel, as a parent, and i think you are parents, if your kids textbooks had political claims that were not basically substantiated, clearly partisan, and they were inserted by some politician he didn't agree with? what is if that enrage you? >> let's get in the weeds on this. what would happen is that

toujeo® is a long-acting, man-made insulin used to control high blood sugar in adults with diabetes. it contains 3 times as much insulin in 1 milliliter as standard insulin. don't use toujeo® to treat diabetic ketoacidosis, during episodes of low blood sugar, or if you're allergic to insulin. allergic reaction may occur and may be life threatening. don't reuse needles or share insulin pens, even if the needle has been changed. the most common side effect is low blood sugar, which can be serious and life threatening. it may cause shaking, sweating, fast heartbeat, and blurred vision. check your blood sugar levels daily while using toujeo®. injection site reactions may occur. don't change your dose or type of insulin without talking to your doctor. tell your doctor if you take other medicines and about all your medical conditions. insulins, including toujeo®, in combination with tzds (thiazolidinediones) may cause serious side effects like heart failure that can lead to death, even if you've never had heart failure before. don't dilute or mix toujeo® with other insulins or solutions as it may not work as intended and you may lose blood sugar control, which could be serious. toujeo® helps me stay on track with my blood sugar.
