>> jon: a lot of fireworks on capitol hill right now. peter doocy, thank you. >> jenna: as we await the white house press briefing with sean spicer, a lot more happening today, we have now seen news from that president's listening sessions on his supreme court nominee and we are waiting on the ninth circuit court decision on trump's immigration travel ban which could come at really any time, so we are watching for that. a vote on tom price for health and human services secretary is also something we are waiting for. in the meantime, two veteran senators each acute accusing the other's party of moving to the extreme. >> what has happened is the donald trump residency has moved so far to the right that it is hard to see compromising with them on almost anything because they are not what donald trump campaigned on. you know, as i said to you on the show last time, if you were to say i will abolish the carried interest loophole, we would support him, but they are not even close to that. this administration still occasionally talks populist, but its actions are hard right. that is very bad news not only
10:07 am
for america but for them because we have never had a hard right government. we have never had a president, house, and senate that is hard to write. so far away from the views of average americans and i would posit the view of most trump voters that they are going to have a really hard time. >> the democratic party is being pushed really hard by the most extreme voices in their community, and they just don't know how to handle it. if they empower her, then i think the democratic party is going to lose its way with the vast majority of the american people. >> jenna: anchor of fox news the sunday me now, that's a beautiful moment, they both agree on something, they are in the extremes. >> they both agree the other one is at fault. this is extraordinary, jenna. i think one thing some people in the white house are losing sight of is if nothing gets done, as americans, we all lose if there is gridlock, and we do not deal with the problems, but in a political sense, if nothing gets
10:08 am
done, the democrats benefit and president trump suffers because his agenda is going to go nowhere. look at the degree to which the democrats have slowed things down already, yes, we are getting very slow drips and drops members of this cabinet appointed, but there is still the commerce secretary, director of national intelligence, energy secretary, small business, epa, it's about a dozen who still either cabinet or sub cabinet level posts who still have not been approved. we have not even begun to get to the president's agenda. tax reform, infrastructure, spending to build the wall, a lot of the legislation to repeal and replace obamacare, none of that is getting done. i'm not quite sure i understand why it is to the president's advantage to get into all of these fights, not saying that democrats are innocent here, not by any stretch, they have been historically obstructive on a lot of these things, but it
10:09 am
doesn't seem to be that the president ought to be playing the same game because he has a lot more to lose. >> jenna: you think both parties are using it as a bit of cover right now to not address the big issues that are confronting either side, whether it is healthcare reform or keeping the government open and functioning with money or whether or not -- these are really big issues that these lawmakers are going to have to confront in some way, but if they are arguing and talking about each other, they're not really talking about any of those issues. >> writes, and again in the long run, i'm talking politically now, not in terms of the health of the country, which all too often, the folks here in washington seem to forget about, but one of the points that donald trump made was that he was going to be the dealmaker, he was going to break the gridlock and be able to get people together, yes, it's encouraging to know he's meeting with moderate democrats right now on that very issue, but to the degree this becomes a partisan food fight on capitol hill, and that things do not get done, it is the trump

agenda, the democrats are not going to be able to pass an agenda anyway, gridlock works to their political benefit and works very much against the benefit of donald trump and the republicans who were given the white house, given a majority in both houses to govern and get things accomplished. >> jenna: when you look across the landscape, do you see in issue the president could put forward where he could get both sides at least on the same page temporarily, that could break the gridlock? >> you certainly can see the possibility of some kind of -- i'm going to use this phrase" because it has got kind of a bad connotation, but a "grand bargain" that would include both tax reform and infrastructure, infrastructure a lot of democrats want, tax reform which a lot of republicans want, and why could help pay for the other. you could envision a situation where that could happen, but not only is there obstruction, it has gotten so personal, and that is another mistake of the president peered you've seen it with the judiciary and some of
10:11 am
his comments about chuck schumer, blumenthal, even in his own party about john mccain. it is one thing to criticize the action, to say i don't think the judge's ruling was proper, but when you start talking about a bad high school student could get this or a "so-called judge" or to bring up the controversy, legitimate controversy about blumenthal inflating his record about serving in vietnam, that is the kind of thing people remember. even if they were even thinking of working with you, they might may not now for personal reasons. >> jenna: picking up what you are saying, there's obstruction but also a lot of distraction which is what you are hitting the nail on the head with cover real distractions that are real issues and other distractions that are sometimes confusing. might need to work with through one of them with us right now, it happened earlier this morning on "fox & friends" all this talk about what is happening with ivanka trump, the daughter of donald trump and her clothing line, what's happening at

10:13 am
social media, is this a distraction or is this something more, how do you see it? >> i don't know the legality of it but just in a sense of appropriateness, the idea of someone in the white house briefing room that we pay for, her salary paid for by us, sitting there, surely for a vodka tromp and saying go by her products, this is the think a lot of people were worried about from the very start, blurring the lines, you talk about peter, the guy who wrote "clinton cash" so this is not a hard left liberal, he blasted the clintons for blurring the lines between private and public, now you have the president and his tweet, and incidentally, a tweet he sent not on his personal email account but on the white house email account, now kellyanne conway and the white house briefing room pushing for people to buy ivanka trump products, i cannot imagine a more classic case of blurring the lines between public and private, so whether it is to the letter of the law, legal or not, it
