after the press conference. brian: people wanted more access to the president. it's unprecedented for a president, perhaps, but not for donald trump. people are saying this is so strange. what do you mean it's so strange? we have been watching this for a year and a half? what do you mean that's unhinged? that is his narrative. ainsley: i bet he was in a great mood because people are saying, he's back, he's always been good at standing up there and he almost enjoys. steve steve i'm enjoying it. he started by taking off all of the accomplishments, executive orders, how he kept campaign promises. ainsley: jobs. steve: he has done in young presidency than any president in history. and i really don't get why i'm getting such bad coverage from all of you right out here.

feel than george w. bush. i'm watching all the networks against me but he's still giving interviews to everybody, barack obama had one network who questioned him and was obsessed with it and never talked to those people. steve: here is the thing about donald trump, keep in mind, television is his business. he's been in the tv. brian: that's his old president. steve: he's the television president. nobody does television better than donald trump. ainsley: this is what he ran on, though. he's not going to be bullied. he's going to stand up. steve: absolutely. that's going to be the test of time. you know, he's made a lot of campaign promises. now he has to get congress on board and do something about jobs. he has to do something about health care and tacks, but the press which has for the most part just had a views that russia gate is the new

that they are holding powerful people accountable. they are not doing anything of the sort. the press has gotten to the point where they need a watchdog and it turns out that trump is the watchdog, trump is the guy holding them accountable. he was having fun with them. he was toying with them. it's like if you have a cat, do you know that you get the laizer pointers and you have a little kitten or a cat, the cat goes nuts chasing the light. it'll run into a wall. he represents middle america, the fly-over states, the southern states and they were saying, some nurses came, there's new york and california, if you look at the map who voted for him, in the middle they voted for him, for the last eight years democrats were bailing out the big banks meanwhile people in middle america were losing their houses . steve: he wants to get health care done and tax reform and about 5:30 this morning he actually was awake apparently in the upstairs of the white house and tweeted this out. despite the long delays by the democrats in finally approving dr. tom price, the repeal and replacement of obamacare is moving fast. in other words, while he talked a lot yesterday about a lot of different things, don't worry, folks, he's on the case, he's going to do something about health care, it's coming. brian: tax reform.

steve, thanks for having me. steve: in the beginning there were not many in capitol hill that were in the trump train but you were why? >> because i come from the private sector. it's fantasy politics. what i knew was what was going back home and on the job front and how desperate people were to get back to work. our candidate made sense, he connected with them in a way that nobody down here understood. i love coming from the private sector in sitting down with the president who is from the private sector and knows how to get things done, he doesn't lecture, he gets it done. steve: yesterday he kicked many things done via executive order. one thing he's been saying this about coal jobs. >> i am continue to go keep my promise to the american to get rid of wasteful regulations that do nothing, absolutely nothing

but slow down the economy, hamstring companies, push jobs to other countries which is happening all over. steve: that's exactly what you wanted him to do, isn't it? >> absolutely. i have so many friends in the coal business, what you see what the previous administration did to the coal business and did to the people that were backbone, we are talking about coal miners and telling those people, you don't have a job anymore, we will find something else for you to do. you know what they said, i think we will look for another person, another boss that know what is to do and get it done and get america back on track again to make america great again. that's exactly what this president is doing, that's exactly what the country needs, right man, right time, right now. steve: when you watch a number of the television channels, that's not the message you get. you get, russia, you know, they're pulling the strings, they hacked to election and stuff like that. >> sure. steve: yesterday he made it clear it's not just fake news but very fake news. what would you make about that? >> he was being kind by saying

we are going to deal with daca with heart. ainsley: president trump has showed more compassion for children than obama administration. good morning, matthew, thanks for joining u. >> good morning, thanks for having me. ainsley: why do you think that? >> well, to give you history back in 2014 there was a surge of unaccompanied minors that came from the southern border from central america and one of the central components of the obama administration enforcement strategy was to ramp up deportations of them through the creation of a special -- what they call a rocket docket where they fast-tracked these kids often times without lawyering through the deportation and conducted raids to take the kids that were deported and send them back home to conditions that were life-threatening and

january 31st, the president issued a memorandum through department of justice to deprioritize the kids deportations and put them in the back of the line which is a significant line. ainsley: what does that tell you about president trump? he gets it. there are humanitarian concerns here. obviously the press has portrayed him as a racist and islamophobe but when you actually break down his foration priorities right now and compare to the previous administration they are virtually identical, obama spent eight years that he was focusing deportations on serious criminals and threats to national security, he generally focuses on people with traffic tickets and people he had convicted of immigration related crimes.

when he left office, 52% of all federal criminal prosecutions were immigration related and that includes drug crimes, weapons offenses, everything. our resources are being wasted on criminally prosecuting people whose only crime is trying to come back to the united states to be reunited with their families. ainsley: president obama, he was called the deporter in chief, he deported 2.7 million immigrants between 2009 and 2016 but the mainstream media, they are going after president trump for this and we didn't hear much about it. where was the mainstream media and why weren't they reporting the facts? >> well, the way i like to describe it is that the mainstream media simply doesn't like it when a republican president deports people and they're willing to accept the carnage if a democrat is in control and it doesn't really help matters when you have individuals within the immigration law community that assist in the pairing of white

house issue talking points and spread the misinformation. so that's what we have been dealing for the last eight year. ainsley: as immigration attorney, you represent the illegal immigrants that are in the country? >> i do. ainsley: how long does it take for them to become a citizen if they go through the process? >> it can take years, better part of a decade or longer depending on where they start the process. with regards to -- to stream lining the process, there are very simple fixes that we can be doing to immigration law that don't require sweeping reform. it doesn't require the creation of a new special pathway to citizenship to solve problems, what we need to do is take a look at the fact that there are 11 million people in this country and there are humanitarian concerns that require us to take a practical step forward in solving problems rather than just fighting because of an election that one party is trying to win.

they see it's not fair. you take a look at some of your shows and you see the bias, the hatred and the public is smart, they understand that. brian: and so is steve hilton, former director of strategy for the british prime minister david cameron when he was a full-time employee. steve: what do you think? >> i loved it, the guy that's going to be different and go to washington and shake things up. it also showed something that people want to see in leaders this is a sense of strength. he stood there and took on all the questions and gave as good as he got. i thought it was great. reaction to it which you have been reporting this morning i think says something interesting which is the political establishment, the media establishment, it seems to me that right now they are getting 2017 just as wrong as they got 2016.

they are so craze with self-righteousness and hatred of trump they can't see that the things he's doing can bring real results. that's actually the caveat to all of this and as you were saying earlier, the press conference, i thought it was good and stood up to the press but the real test is what he does and you're talking also about the interview paul ryan gave to sean hannity. i was concerned about that to be honest. >> why? >> if you listen to what he said, there are a few things that were problematic, one ryan gave himself politician wiggle room. maybe, we really want to get it done this year. that's the first thing. he actually didn't promise to do it in 200 days. the second thick and this is what i just don't get about washington, is this idea that you can't do more than one thing at a time that we have to the regulatory stuff now and then obamacare and then the tax reform. why?

what are they doing down there? why can't they do more than one thing at a time? why do we have from ryan and the republicans in congress business as usual -- ainsley: a rule that's set up. a rule that you have to first do obamacare before you can do the tax reform. >> why? ainsley: why do we have that rule? >> people who are desperate for a job and pay rise, they elected trump to cut taxes, do infrastructure, get rid of regulation to boost the economy and it feels to me that you have the business as usual attitude from washington and that, i think, is what trump really needs to -- brian: donald trump is back here in two months and nothing else done and still sparring with the press then there's a legitimate problem. >> exactly. for perfect outcome is to do what he promised which he -- ainsley: sorry to interrupt you. go ahead. >> and really say to ryan, sorry, that's not good enough. we need it now. the american elected me to do a job and do it quickly. ainsley: right.

>> that's in everyone's interest. ainsley: it's been three weeks, time is ticking, we are ready to get some of the stuff done. he's trying to work and congress is holding it up. steve: that's the worry of a lot of people who worry for donald trump and even if they didn't, they want america to work out okay. he has done as much as he can with the time he's had with the xee -- xee -- executive orders. >> trump has got the energy and the attitude and the fight. and he's got to be directed to a positive purpose. brien: right, the problem with our government the tax plan has to come from the white house. the infrastructure plan can come from the white house. it doesn't necessarily have to come from congress so now he has the people in place. i didn't expect him to have a tax plan, he spent his whole life in business. what do you think of my plan and start -- >> sorry to go on about the paul

ryan interview. another thing that really worried me when sean pressed him on the detail of the tax plan and the corporate tax cut which is crucial for getting jobs and incomes and investment and getting the economy moving. trump promised 15% of tax business and ryan saying 20. ainsley: yeah. >> well, it's just math. that's so not true. there's a really big difference between 20 and 15. 20% rate is better than what we've got but is not internationally competitive. it puts america in the middle of the pack. 15%, that's a real signal to investors and entrepreneurs to invest in america to boost jobs and incomes. he's got to win the argument. it has to be 15%. ainsley: i don't know how it is in the uk. as girls we would love to take a love quiz. there's a quiz now -- in a magazine, how much do you really love your boyfriend and add up all the points. congressman, where do you start? >> well, i think you start with accountability within the agencies. remember the president has appointed a very good cia director mike pompeo, pompeo came out with a statement yesterday in relation to the well street journal saying that that is not acceptable and then we are going to get a new director of national intelligence, so part of this is you have folks that aren't part of this administration, holdovers and you will have to turn that out but you will have to have the intelligence community do investigation to try to determine where the leaks are coming from and it's not just with the michael flynn thing, obviously that's wasn't thing. you have the president doing phone calls with foreign leaders and then somehow the contents of these calls are being put out to the press. that is not the way we can conduct foreign policy. the president was elected lawfully and this community needs to serve his interest so

regulation. look at dakota pipeline, keystone pipeline. the president with a stroke of his pen put both of those things back in play. obamacare, we're working on a plan last night. we spent two hours with secretary price last night with our team going through our plans on obamacare, and he's going to quarterback our plans through the house and the senate, and we're finalizing that hopefully during the first week of march we'll be working on that plan with congressional leaders. and then tax reform comes next. brian: what about your national security adviser position? how big of blow harward? when y were you caught flat-footed when he said "no"? and who's coming in? who is now the finalist to get that job? >> no. we told -- we told admiral harward that we were very interested in talking to him, and we were very serious about his position at the nsa, and he responded, well, let me talk to my wife and family, and we'll get back to you. and we kept in constant contact. he called us and said guess

obamacare, keep feel good stuff, it actually gets worse. this is chance that you have insurance companies leading to bankruptcy, if you have partial repeal because you leave in place some of the perverse incentives for six people to get insurance and healthy people not to get insurance. steve: senator, there have been a number of members of mainstream media or #fake news as president trump referred to yesterday, if they just repeal it without coming up with something else, then 20 million americans would be left in the lurch with no coverage but that is never your intention, is it? >> no. i've been a big proponent of the very beginning to repeal and replace on the same day. i put forward the replacement bill that has a goal insuring everyone. it has the goal providing insurance for everyone at a cheaper price. one of the fundamental flaws of obamacare was, they had noble intentions but they ended up screwing everything else and increased the price of everybody's insurance. my bill would lower the price of

everybody's insurance and let individuals buy it as a group or association. ainsley: senator, with all due respect, why wasn't this already in place? this is what he ran on. i feel like weeks and weeks are going by. why wasn't there a replacement already ready when he took office? >> we had a replacement ready for dozen years really. one of the parts of my replacement plan is from 2006. a lot of this plan has been out there. so i think that is a little bit of overstatement saying oh, republicans have no plan. thats is are one reason why i brought together a lot of consensus positions, probably half of my bill is from previous bills from congressman tom price. so these are popular bills, and i wanted to make sure everybody knew we did have a replacement but also make sure everybody knows that we do want to provide insurance for those who are struggling. steve: yeah, i know you were at the white house yesterday. you were with president trump when he signed an executive order doing what for people in your home state of kentucky? >> we were excited about it.

this was an overzealous federal government regulation that would have cost 77,000 more jobs in the coal industry. we've already lost, you know, we've lost over 10,000, maybe close to 20,000 coal jobs just in kentucky. this would have decimated us. this was a huge reprieve. i told my colleagues, this might have been the best thing we've done since i come to washington is repealing this terrible regulation. ainsley: hats off to you for that. reminds me when hillary clinton sat down with the miners and that guy put his picture in front of her, i have to feed my family. you're taking my job away from this family. i want to see the faces. what did you think about the presser yesterday? >> quite interesting and maybe the most interesting press conference ever. and so, our president is unique in the sense that he can captivate the attention of both media and public. and i think he does and he gets right to the point. he doesn't beat around the bush. he has a style distinct to

in this industry. we had just come through a down period. this will help turn this industry around and i'm excited for the people that work in this industry. it is a very big time for us. ainsley: mike, we saw him run on this very issue. you remember hillary clinton took away jobs from the miners. he said i will bring jobs back. are you shocked that a politician actually did what he said he was going to do? >> absolutely, for the longest time we've been promised jobs. we were promised our industry would be taken care of, and it hasn't been. for a politician, donald trump stand up, hold good to his promise, absolutely fantastic. he is an inperrace to all working americans. steve: you know, speaking of all americans, talk a little bit about your family. the coal industry is a family affair, isn't it? don't you have folks who work for you? >> yes, my two oldest sons work in the same industry as i do. i have to say my youngest son, nathan, spent seven years in the

military. one term in iraq and now is at fairmont state university. i'm very proud of all of them. steve: not just talking about your job, you're talking about your family and their well being going forward. >> it is my family. we are a generation of coal miners. the industry is full of generation of coal miners. it means a lot to all of us here. ainsley: i understand you weren't even supposed to speak yesterday. how did that happen and how did you feel about it. >> i was not supposed to. it caught me completely off-guard. we were there to witness the signing. when president trump asked someone to speak and kind of, i kind of got my name thrown out there, it caught me off-guard. it was very exciting. brian: you got a white house tour i heard of the oval office. when people look at coal, have you guys responded to the environmental critics out there? >> you know, there is always critics and, they don't really understand what we do. our industry is not dangerous to

the environment at all. we are deep mines. we don't hurt the environment at all. so, the critics are the critics. steve: critics are the critics. mike, you watch television, you pick up a newspaper. seems like there are a lot of critics who will not accept donald trump as our president but he is going to be president for the next four years it looks likes. it could be the next eight years. what is your message to the critics out there who feel that way about donald trump? >> donald trump has won the election. i think the american people have to face that fact. again he is an inspiration to all working people for what he has done on his promises. he held true what he said he was going to do for the coal industry. i think that is a message that will be sent across to all industries. i think mr. trump will bring jobs back and industry back to this country which is needed. steve: michael, before you leave, when do you think it was
