fox news alert. president trump moments ago wrapping up remarks at a boeing plant in south carolina trying to refocus attention on jobs and the economy, and our workers. hello everyone. i'm sandra smith. well, the president suggesting while standing in front of the latest boeing dream liner that he's getting closer to a deal on the new air force one. >> and i'm being very, very serious. the new air force one, that plane, as beautiful as it looks, is 30 years old. can you believe it? what can look so beautiful at 30? an airplane. i don't know. which one do we like better, folks? tell me. >> sandra: all right. chief white house correspondent john roberts traveling with the president, is in north charleston. as we understand it, he's still behind you, john. there he is. live pictures of the president, getting a tour of that dream liner. and in the cockpit right now.
11:01 am
john? >> reporter: yeah. they took a tour of the boeing plant before the president spoke. then he spoke for about 15, 20 minutes. now he's up there touring this new aircraft for folks who are wondering about the aircraft, it is called the dash 10 version of it. it's 18 feet longer than the dash 9 version. they haven't flown this one yet. lot of people with their fingers crossed that it will go down the runway and actually get up in the air. boeing has proven itself. they have a great track record of trying to get aircraft up in the air. you heard the president joking about air force one. he has cut a deal with the ceo and chairman of boeing for the new air force one replacement fleet. really only two aircraft. did not exceed $4 billion. president got a guarantee that he will save the american taxpayers some money. today was like a campaign event. there were marching bands. 5,000 people here as the president came down and talked about jobs. listen to what he said.
11:02 am
>> as your president, i'm going to do everything i can to unleash the power of the american spirit and to put our great people back to work. this is our mantra. buy american and hire american. >> reporter: many of the themes he hit during the campaign, american first, hire american, buy american. tweaking lockheed a little bit today. lockheed has the contract for the new strike fighter. president saying, hey, is there anything better than an f-18 superhornet built by boeing, suggesting, these were his words, we may put in a big order for f-18's. so that might shake things up a little bit in the defense industry. but the president returning back to the campaign here. probably haven't been the most

enjoyable for him. he's lost it. his labor secretary. had to fire his national security adviser. first big order on immigration getting mired up and defeated in the courts. bigger constitutional question to that. wanted to get out here among a friendly crowd and return to this campaign theme. remember winning, sandra. listen to what the president said. >> america is going to start winning again, winning like never, ever before. we're not gonna let our country be taken advantage of any more in any way, shape or form. we love america. we are going to protect america. whroefrb our workers, and we are going to protect our workers. >> reporter: after he finishes the tour of the 787-10 dream liner the president will get back into another boeing aircraft, head down to marlago

florida. he has a meeting to get back out there, feel the vibe from people cheering him on as opposed to the ones who have him under siege in washington. he's also got some work to do in that he needs to pick a new national security adviser candidate. steven hadley national security adviser under president obama. then couple other candidates that he may be meeting with as well. loft work for the president. sandra? >> sandra: he's still on the tkpwroupb there. john robert, thank you. you are looking at the president live in north charleston, south carolina. still getting a tour of the plan there. as john roberts was delivering his report the president's daughter, ivanka trump and her husband came down the stairs. they, too, were getting a tour of the new airplane. he was also standing, the president, was standing with the ceo of boeing. so the president still making his way around the facility.

with more on this let's bring in a columnist with the national review. and a former consult to obama's campaign. i'll start with you first. as we're looking at these live images of the president doing what arguably he does best. he he is talking business. he is touting that he is going to put america and its workers first. cat? >> absolutely. he does that. he does rallies very well, too. tomorrow very good move. this was a very good move. kind of distract from the tough week he's been having with flynn, with puzder, with russia. if you do things like this, it can be a distraction. doesn't make the problems go away. kind of like if you have problems in your marriage. couples go to florida. the sunshine can be distracting. are >> sandra: he did point out that the business climate in the u.s., under this administration, has changed. he is using the opportunity to

11:07 am
removal of dodd frank and is there going to be a replacement that prevent another subprime mortgage crisis or other things that greatly impacted those worker opportunities. it sounds great. believe me, everybody wants everything to be great. but i think the greater concerns we have around russia -- >> sandra: certainly this is a positive voice coming from the president himself today as you just see those live images of him boarding air force one in north carolina -- south carolina. north charleston, i'm sorry. and he does have that rally tomorrow. i want to run this by you. the washington post put out a piece, the simple reason that trump is holding a rally in florida this weekend. he says to demonstrate that he's winning. and you could argue, i'll show you on fox and friends this morning saying there's no better person to speak for the president than the president himself. listen to this. >> there's no person better to speak for president trump than president trump. and he's extraordinarily
11:08 am
talented. and he's a great salesman. he knows how to communicate. it was an effective way to sum up what his message was yesterday. and he did a fantastic job. >> sandra: he arguably just did that again. cat? >> yeah, absolutely. he knows how to control the news cycle. he will go there and say some memorable thing. people will be talking about that on twitter. he's going to be talking about the crowds. they will be fired up. the people who love trump, they love trump a lot. they're going to be out in full force. it's going to be good for him. it will be something on tv that's positive instead of negative. >> sandra: he did tout that he is going to have a massive crowd. >> as all. one of the challenges is and concerns is his sensitive ego. he has the lowest approval rating of any president in history. while he has some very excited supporters, there are not a lot of people in his administration lining up to support him.
11:09 am
so, you know, is this a mental hel exercise? i need this so i can still be great? the fact that he still needs to mention his numbers in the election. he already won. why that continually comes up when he's asked a difficult question, i think those are the things that concern people. >> sandra: thanks to both of you for joining us following the president's comments. he's boarding air force one, on his way. well, the senate just moments ago voting to confirm scott pruitt as head of epa. lawmakers considering several other picks for the president's cabinet before leaving town for the holiday weekend. mike emanuel is live on capitol hill for us. what's the latest on the cabinet confirmations at this point? >> great question. one cabinet level confirmation is done. another appears to be on the way. in the past hour the senate confirmed scott pruitt to be the next administrator of the environmental protection agency. two democrats joined with republicans. the vote was 52-46 with two absences. wilbur ross nomination to be

commerce secretary just passed a procedural hurdle 66-31. that is just the first step. top republicans are blasting democrats for a lack of cooperation. >> cabinet nominees were named. what we saw were a list of eight nominees come out that senator schumer had as his hit list of nominees that he was going to oppose, slow down, obstruct, boycott. democrats delay. they delayed again. they delayed again. that's what we saw in one after another after another. >> with lawmakers in town for the president's day holiday, it appears other nominees will wait at least ten more days for some sort of action. sandra? >> sandra: what have democrats been saying after their all nighter on the senate floor? >> well, they tried to hold up the scott pruitt nomination by arguing that he's done nothing to help the environment. he's only attacked the epa as attorney general of the state of
11:11 am
oklahoma. >> to approve this nominee, who is hostile, who has sued the agency, who's never done a thing in his life to protect the environment, is just outrageous. it's a dereliction of our responsibility and we are gonna look back on this moment and say, what were we thinking? >> two democrats joined with republicans to confirm scott pruitt's nomination. he will soon be the top person at the epa. but these are still very tense times here on capitol hill. sandra? >> sandra: all right, mike emanuel, thank you. new signs of aggression from russia, as one of its spy ships makes its way up and down our east coast. hanging out near u.s. naval bases. an update on where it is now. and president trump vowing to track down leakers that got former national security adviser michael flynn fired. why it might not be that easy. >> i have actually called the justice department to look into the leak.

concerns about the intelligence community itself and whether there is a shadow network trying to under mind the president. >> there may be some bad actors within the intelligence community or some holdovers. nobody knows. but i will tell you this. i have talked to top level of the intelligence communities. >> sandra: bradley moss is a national security attorney. bradley, where are we with all of this? your thoughts? >> $64,000 question in many of these issues is, can you find the person? 4 million different people hold security clearances and have access to the type of information that would have been leaked. trying to find a needle in stack of needles. if the president wanted to he could try to start some widespread investigation. but you to know what to find. you don't know what you don't know. until they have some idea of which particular leaks they're gonna look at and which offices or departments would have had

access to information they have nowhere to start. >> sandra: as we have heard from the president in recent day, he found very confident that he is going to fine and hold accountable those responsible. is it possible he knows something about finding those individuals that he is not releasing to the public? >> that's always a possibility that there's already been an internal inquiry of sorts and they already have an idea of a group of people who could have leaked it. look, we've had several presidents now all try to wage some type of war on leakers. president obama prosecuted more leakers than anybody else had ever done. there's all an attempt to clamp down on it. this town leaks. it always leaks. it will always leak. in the post snowden era, too many people are using end to end encryption to find these communications. everybody knows how to drop off documents with journalists through secure mean. if the president knows something, i'd look forward to hearing about it. at the moment i don't think he knows anything more than you or

11:19 am
network? are those concerns warranted? >> i think it is over blown hyper pwolic rhetoric from a white house that's still trying to understand the difference between running a private corporation an running a government. look, millions of people work for the federal government. lot of ones who are still here are civil servants. they serve administration to administration. they don't have any particular loyalties. if they are the ones leaking it, it sounds more of an issue that they are annoyed that the experts have been cut out of the loop on thing. knowing the meeting between the president and prime minister of israel had no one from the state department prepping it or present. there are some holdovers from the obama administration? maybe. but i think this is mostly to do with civil servants. we get it, you're new. you have to bring us in on this. you have to use us in governing. you can do it yourself. >> sandra: what did you think
11:20 am
about the saying that there could be some bad actors within the intel commune. we heard from august back to last year him raising questions about the intelligence community. >> yeah. again, it's a lot of hot air. in terms of who you're interacting with. they have no prior understanding of how these different agencies coordinate that you can just march -- send off a new executive order and expect everyone to fall in line. you have to core nate. that's hopefully what they will be doing going forward. >> sandra: we heard it from the president multiple times that those leakers will be caught and held accountable. thanks for joining us, bradley. >> thank you. >> sandra: president taking his economic message to airplane giant boeing. how his jobs plan is playing out on wall street today. plus a popular grocery store chain threatened with a boycott for refusing to remove a trump labeled product from their shelves. what that store is saying to all
