should they be called protests? >> morning. well, there's a line between protesting and committing crimes, assaulting people, committing vandalism. and many of these so-called protesters have long since crossed that line. what i find maddening, there were protesters against ronald reagan, against george w. bush. george w. bush, of course, got us into the iraq war, donald trump is a populist. this is a man whose daughter is propose toking six weeks of -- proposing six weeks of paid that alternativety leave, he wants a stimulus package, something even chuck schumer is smiling about. on many issues he's a centrist, a populist, so i don't with quite understand why this level of outrage with this person. clayton: if you look at their t-shirts and signs, larry, it looks like no wall, that this is what they want, as they're saying, a nation of immigrants.

what do you say to that, that border wall idea, the executive order on immigration, that's what they're zeroing in on. >> i think you're right. but even on the wall, there's an economist from harvard named george borjas, and he says that illegal immigration puts downward pressure on wages and jobs for people in the inner city. so the people that the the inner city -- would benefit by doing something about these porous borders. donald trump either in the center or is promoting an issue that minorities support. for example, vouchers. right to put their kid into a better performing private school. donald trump wants that, the parents want that. i'm trying to figure out what makes this man racist. clayton: and look at betsy devos, of course, needing to get u.s. marshal service

keane. thanks for joining us. what's your takeaway one month in? >> well, i think the host significant thing about president trump -- the most significant thing about president trump so far is he delivers on a promise. the whole month has been one series of announcements and execution of policies that he said he would deliver to the american people. so i think that is very encouraging, because our adversaries are watching this, and they get it. what they see is a strong, decisive leader. and they also are wary of him, to be sure. and i think our allies have got to be reassured that the united states has a strong leader who's reassuring them that he's going to back them. and he's had his secretary of state, secretary of defense doing just that this week with our european allies, and i know he's done the same thing with our middle eastern allies as well, and he's certainly standing up to the iranians, and that sends an unbelievably loud

and clear message. so all good there my perspective. clayton: although there were some setbacks and, of course, the nsa and michael flynn, and there are some otherh9fçór8bó know, other allies look at america, they want to know that the president has his trust add visors around him -- advisers around him, none more important than the national security adviser. these names on our screen, those names, think stick out to you as likely choices here? >> well, i know all four of them, and all of them are certainly qualified. listen, this is the president picking a principal staff adviser that he sees multiple times a day. clayton: right. >> this has got to be his choice, someone that he wants to spend that much time with and also someone that's going to relate to the other people around him. you don't want to bring anybody in that can't function as part of this team. everybody's got a big ego and wears big boy pants when they

walk into the white house, we got that. [laughter] but at the end of the day, you've got to function as a team. abby: great advice. i want to get your thought on senator john mccain, pretty critical of president trump, especially when it comes to his attacks on the media, saying that it is like a dictatorship. take a listen to what he had to say most recently. >> you have to have a free and many times adversarial press, and without it i'm afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. that's how dictators get started. abby: general, i know you're a good friend of senator mccain and president trump. these two gentlemen need each other, right? senator mccain is so well respected up on capitol hill. for rump to get so much of -- for trump to get so much of what he wants done, he needs john mccain. what advice do you have for them? >> they've got to bury the hatchet. he's a great man, and he was

absolutely the only loud and clear opposition to barack obama's his guided national policies for the last eight years. and the president has called him a loser, and now he's talking about dictatorship, this is john mccain, and also saying the white house is in disarray and dysfunctional. they both need each other. why? they have the same thing this common. they want to grow this economy using the private secking to have, they want to rebuild the military, and they want a return of american leadership to the world. those are major themes of the president, and john mccain agrees with all of it. so they've got to talk to each other about how to accomplish that and put these other personal attacks aside for the sake of the country. pete: general, like you, i have a great deal of respect for senator mccain as well, but when you're overseas like that, to saudis array, this is the advent of how dictatorships

start, it feels like a shot across the bow early in a new administration that doesn't help raise america's stature in the world. >> well, these things are being said because that's how john mccain feels, and one thing you know about him, he speaks his mind, and the president's very much the same way. abby: right. >> he tells you what he thinks, and they have both said some things about each other that us frustrate each other -- abby: why can't they just get in a room and have a conversation? clayton: and i'm curious too, general, you think that things are going off without a him, and yet -- without a hitch, and you have senator mccain saying he thinks it's in total disarray. where's the disconnect there? >> i think it's more style, frankly. i didn't say everything or is perfect that what the president has done in the last month, but promised. execution may be, you know, learning, experience. that's natural in any new

administration. you can't start on january 20 and expect to do everything right with a brand new team and everybody in a position they've never had before. let's be realistic about it. mediator of the two of them. i want your thoughts on this russian spy ship off the coast of connecticut. a lot of people are really concerned about this, and i've heard you talk about it just the past couple days saying this happens all the time, for people to calm down a little bit. >> yeah. i mean, look, we spy on russia routinely, and they spy on us routinely. usually with submarines off our coast and the same with our submarines off their coast. so a surface be ship is an exception. and i think it's there because putin wants all the media attention. he's getting exactly what he wants. and i think it's -- he loves to humiliate and embarrass the united states. he's a fierce opponent of ours, and he also wants to weaken the transatlantic alliance. there's a big meeting going on in munich, as you mentioned, and

all the nato allies, the united states' representatives are there. secondly, the other thing he wants to detract from is the fact that he's weaponizing his cruise missiles with tactical nuclear weapons in violation of the s.t.a.r.t. treaty in 1987. that is incredibly significant, what he's doing, because we have destroyed all of our tactical nuclear weapons, and supposedly he destroyed all of his, and now he's building new ones. so these are some of the things that putin is doing. he wants that attention on that ship. he's getting all of that attention, and he's still continuing his aggressive behavior. clayton: what should the trump administration do in response? >> number one, strengthen the transatlantic alliance, nato. exactly what vice president pence, secretary of defense and secretary of state have been doing this week. let them know the united states is behind them. their leadership is intimidated by putin, they're weakened to a certain tree after eight years of a leaderless united states

which gives them great concern. it is the undercurrent that's at that munich conferences. is this new administration under president trump truly going to stand behind them. our leaders are trying to give them that reassurance. they need to solidify be our allies in the middle east, and they are doing this. we need sort of like an arab nato to counter the iranians' geopolitical gains they have made over the last eight years and also to stand up the radical islam. those things are beginning to take hold. russia is an ally of iran. they're in bed together. they have a bona fide military alliance. these are the important, critical things. and the last thing is rebuild the military as the president is saying he's going to do. that more than anything will send a loud, unequivocal message to putin the united states is back. abby: general, great advice. good to have you this morning. clayton: thanks, general. >> good talking to you. abby: all right.

new york city, it's going to be about 60 degrees today. unbelievable. clayton: flooding because of it. abby: yeah. beautiful. and we're coming off as we showed you a big night last night, president trump back in campaign mode as "the new york post" has up this morning. clayton: kicking off his 2020 re-election campaign, it looked like. you saw the signs behind him, over his shoulder there when he was speaking, blacks for trump, 2020, it looked like a campaign speech. pete: it did. it felt like 2016. it feels like a campaign rally as he speaks directly to the people which is exactly what he wants to do, unfiltered, straight to the folk bees. clayton: he kicked it off by rattling what he sees as his rattling what he sees as his . abby: he seemed very comfortable, but it was very much a nationalistic vision that he had, america first. stronger borders, we're going to

have a stronger economy, we're already seeing that. and you know what i would say for the rest of the world watching? when america is stronger, the world is stronger. the world is better for that, i think that was a big message last night, and the crowd went wild over attacking the media, for one, and also clamping down hard on islamic extremist. pete: yeah, but you laid out what he's accomplished, and this is what he had to say. >> the white house is running so smoothly. we inherited one big mess. jobs are already starletting to our back -- starting to pour back in. ford, general motors, fiat chrysler are bringing this and bringing back thousands of jobs. they're not leaving. look at what's happening to the stock market. look at what's happening to every poll when it comes to optimism in our country. we are going to be submitting in a couple of weeks a great health care plan that's going to take the place be of the disaster known as obamacare.

[cheers and applause] i refuse to fly in a $4.2 billion airplane. i got the generals in who are fantastic. i got boeing in. we have it running beautifully. we've directed the creation of a task force for reducing violent crime in america. i've nominated a fantastic justice to replace the late great justice scalia. i've ordered the construction of a great board beer wall. -- border wall. i've taken decisive action to keep radical islamic terrorists the hell out of our country! [cheers and applause] clayton: tired of the filter of the mainstream media in washington, he said he thought the financial press was the most dishonest media this he got to washington and thought that the political press was even more dishonest, so this is a return for him to the campaign trail, again, to talk to the people who got him elected and to affirm in those first few weeks the things

that he sees as accomplishments. pete: exactly. so after eight years of the fundamental transformation of ram that, honestly ask yourself who's accomplished more in the first month of their presidency, reorienting the direction of the company and saying, no, we're going to have borders, rebuild our military, fix v.a., we're going to bring jobs back, strip away regulations. predictably, to your point, clayton, the failing new york times this morning has articles about trump, both negative. they would never do a review and say here's what he's accomplished. you're not going to hear it unless -- abby: but you know what he does better than almost anybody? he makes the little guy feel important. he makes them feel like -- pete: the forgotten man. abby: he invited a very special person up on stage last night. it was probably the best moment of the night. watch this. >> and i saw in this man on television just now. you. i just saw him on television. he said, i love trump. let trump do what he has to do. that's my guy, right there.

[cheers and applause] come here. come here. that's okay, let him up. let him up. i'm not worried about him. i'm only worried he's going to give me a kiss, i'm not worried about thinking else. clayton: that man is gene huber. he was pulled up on stage over the barricade, and he's joining us live right now. you've become a star overnight, gene, and i know you probably lost your voice from all the talking and shouting you had to do -- >> good morning. i did lose hi voice a little bit. i apologize for that. pete: in service of your country. so you're first in line, did you know this was going to happen, and how surprise were you when he points you out is and says that's my guy, bring him up here. >> it's a dream come true. i've been supporting president trump for over two years now, and my goal was to be first on line, but i had no clue he was going to point to me and say, get on up here. [laughter] clayton: you were there at tour in the morning.

i understand you were almost, like, sort of camped out. first in line. i think our own griff jenkins interviewed you. donald trump saw that on television -- abby: from the airplane. clayton: that's my guy. you got there, why so early? >> because i wanted to make sure i was number one. that was the reason. abby: well, you were, gene, you were number one, and you were really the star of the night. tell us about you. gene, what do you do, and what is it about president trump and during the campaign that was so attractive to you? >> when president trump talks, i'm glued to that tv. he has common sense, he's smart, and he knows what he's doing. look at what, look at what he's created, a billionaire. he's smart, and this is what we need in our country. he speaks the truth from the heart, and that's the most important thing that really grabs my attention with him. clayton: speaking of grabbing -- >> yeah. but each day of the two years,

it just grew on me every single day, the love that i have for our president. abby: and now it's bigger than ever. [laughter] clayton: and speaking of grabbing, we know off camera when the president was calling you, there's this thing called the secret service, and they're probably not listening to the president. they've got an earpiece in their ear, and they're listening to the other secret service agents, probably not listening to the speech necessarily, making sure everyone's safe. all of a sudden the secret service sees somebody climbing over the barricade because the president asks you to climb over the barricade. take us to that moment. what happened with the secret service? >> like i said, he says -- you're a healthy guy, jump over that fence. i said, sure. [laughter] next thing i notice, i get pretty much tackled, grabbed, and i'm getting forced out of the building, and i'm like, the president wants the talk to me. [laughter] abby: and then you made it up. gene, did you even sleep last night? you must have been so excited about the whole thing. >> i slept for maybe an hour and

a half, two hours tops. but, you know, this is what president trump does to us. you know, that excitement, that love x that's what it's really all about. the people, our movement, you know? and it's just incredible. finishth president what have your -- pete: what have your family and friends and colleagues said about this? >> they just can't believe it, news they know -- because a they know i'm one of the biggest supporters of donald trump. they know how much i care and respect this man. and, but my parentses were watching the rally just like normal, and all of a sudden their son pops up. clayton: unbelievable. abby: i can't even imagine. we're hearing the response because be you were there in person, you got to speak on stage with the president, but you read some of the headlines including "the new york times" who don't have the same reaction to the rally last night. what do you make of the media's

coverage of his presidency so far and how he has gone right after them? >> that's what we need. you saw that press conference a couple days ago. there's no more games, folks. of there's no more games. and this is the way it has to be. and i just want to let everyone know this as well, i'm hearing from the left that this was planted, that president trump made in the to happen on purpose, like we set this up. , no it didn't. it did not happen. because on my facebook, you see 90% of it's all president trump. so they think we're, like, friends. clayton: right. abby: well, i think your speech was so good -- clayton: and then the secret service tackles you. if they had it planned, that wouldn't have happened. >> right. clayton: gene, i'm sure you got no sleep, and thank you so much for waking up early. go get some lemon tea for your voice. >> exactly. it was my pleasure. can i just say something real quick?

agents speeding up deportation hearings and use local law enforcement to make arrests. the guidelines come as president trump continues to crack down on illegal immigration. and president trump taking no time off this presidents day weekend with, today he's interviewing four candidates to be his next national security adviser following general michael flynn's departure. on that list, acting national security adviser keith kellogg, army strategist h.r. mcmaster and lieutenant general robert caslin. and now we're learning one big name may be out of the running, reports say former cia director david petraeus has been taken out of consideration. and a day without immigrants' protests turning into a life without jobs for many participants. immigrants walking out on their jobs in protest slowing our closing businesses across the country only to return to work on friday to have their bosses tell them to take a hike.

at least 50 employeeses were fired in the right to work states of oklahoma, tennessee, south carolina and north carolina alone. pete: turns out you've got to show up for work. abby: apparently, that's important. [cheers and applause] they have their own agenda, and their agenda is not your agenda. abby: well, that was president trump doubling down on his criticism of the press the day after he tweeted the mainstream media was the enemy of the american people. pete: so does the president have a point? we turn to steve hilton, former director of strategy for british prime minister david cameron and a fox news contributor. steve, thank you very much for joining us this morning. elsewhere in that speech and in interviews, the president has said, listen, i see the information, i see what's going on, and i see the news, and it looks like fake news, and that's

an enemy to the people and to our republic. what do you say about his all-out assault this a press conference, in a tweet and at a rally about the press? >> i think he's exactly right about this because what you're seeing from the media ismethingy beyond their actual job which is very important for a democracy, which is to hold those in power to account. they're going way beyond that. they're actively trying to undermine the elected president. you see it now in the way that the media are openly speculating about whether president trump will last a full term. now, what they mean by that is that they are trying to make sure he doesn't. now, that is anti-democratic, and it's profoundly wrong. clayton: john mccain in munich yesterday and then on "heat the press"ed is -- meet the press asked about the president's attacks on the press, and senator mccain saying we these this adversarial press. take a listen. >> if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you

have to have a free, and many times adversarial, press. and without it, i'm afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. that's how dictators get started. clayton: so is that a bridge too far? but does he also on the one hand have a point? after all, "the washington post" reporting of general michael flynn lying to the vice president, that's what got him fired, the president firing him because he lied to the vice president, and we only learned about it through "the washington post." >> yeah, every word that john mccain said there is correct. we do need an adversarial press, that's part of politics. everyone understands that. but this has gone way beyond that. when you have a publication like "the new york times," for example, that has an editorial policy of never writing anything positive about president trump, that's not just adversarial, that is actively campaigning to overturn an election result. you could say that that also is a threat to democracy. so i think the, those who

respond in this way to trump are actually really doing the exact thing that they accuse him of, which is undermining the traditions and norms of democracy. abby: what about that line, he tweeted it that the media is not my enemy, it's actually an enemy of the american people. a lot of people are are suggesting that goes too far. what are your thoughts on that exact line? >> to be honest, i think he did a great job in that press conference hitting back at the media and made the point effectively. the other thing is when he's on stage like that, as he was in the white house with the press, he's actually really entertaining and put these arguments in a pretty charming way. he's got a great sense of humor, and i thought that worked really well. to be honest, i think, that was enough. think about this, the best revenge that donald trump could have against these media attacks is to win, is for the republicans to win in 2018 and for him to get reelected. now, the best way to make sure that happens is for him to really do what he was elected to do which is to bring change particularly on the economy.

♪ ♪ abby: we're back. governor christie goes to washington, the new jersey governor reportedly telling friends and family that he's taking a role with the trump administration and will answer only to the president. it's still unclear what role he will have. the white house has not yet confirmed that. i know, interesting. and bono meets vice president mike pence and sings his praises. the u2 singer meeting the vice president in germany during a security conference. bono sharing his appreciation of the vp for aids legislation that pence supported years ago.

i like that picture of the two of them together. pete: well, president trump blasting a federal judge's order against him at last night's rally. >> we'll be doing something over the next couple of days. we don't give up, we never give up. we've allowed thousands and thousands of people into our country, and there was no way to vet those people. there was no documentation, there was no nothing. so we're going to keep our country safe. clayton: so the white house is planning to unveil a new executive order this week, but will it hold up in court, or will we have a repeat? pete: let's ask defense attorney alan dershowitz, a harvard law school e emeritus and lifelong democrat. appreciate your time. you've looked at this closely. how is he going to approach this issue of writing an executive order that passes muster and executes what he wants to get done? >> well, there are two ways. there's the easy fix, and that

is don't alie it to green card holders and people who have legitimate visas studying at universities, etc. 9 that's easy, and that doesn't compromise in any way with our security. the harder fix would be to get rid of the list of seven countries. for example, appoint a commission of experts to advise him, and every month they would give him a list of those regions and areas -- they don't have to be countries -- regions and areas which pose the greatest immediate risk, and then he can impose delays or restrictions. that would get rid of the claim that this is an establishment of religion. the other option is he can fight, he can take this to the united states supreme court, and i think he would win a arable victory, but untiles -- a partial victory, but it would take him months to win. so i think he's probably going to do both. he's going to try to introduce a new order, and at the same time

he may fight the old order. clayton: is it smart to go after the courts like this? >> no, it's not. in the end, the courts ultimately have the last word. we're the only country in the world where the judiciary is a co-equal branch of the government. that's a hard thing for a president to understand. so, you know, he lost last time with two republican appointees, conservatives voting against him. he ought to be more respectful to the courts. he can be critical of specific opinions, but he shouldn't use terms like so-called judge. abby: how important is it for him to communicate exactly what this executive order is not just to his administration and the state department and dhs, but to the american people so everyone understands who is in, who's out and how we're going to process this? because it seemed like that was a challenge last time. >> right. clarity is absolutely essential. you don't want people at the airport not knowing what their status is. so he has two things he has to do. first, he has to change the minds of americans that he's not imposing a muslim ban, that he's

imposing an islamic terrorist ban. that's a legitimate thing to do. and second, the order has to be crystal clear. everybody knows who's in, who's out. and then i think he's still going to be challenged in the courts. your going to find -- you're going to find states that are going to challenge him. states can now sue on behalf of people outside of the country. there are going to be challenges. the question is, is he going to win in court, and i think he can frame an order in which he will win, and it will be a win/win for everybody. abby: that's what he's wanting. professor, good to have you here to break it all down. pete: john mccain, excuse me, says the president's attack on the press are a sure signs of a dictator. chris wallace here to weigh in on the growing war of words between those two next. abby: and remember the democrat who said this to his own party? >> reality is we did not offer a positive message to anyone that i'm relate ared to.

the fact that he's going after the press that's clearly going after him? >> well, i didn't know you were going to say this, but, in fact, i have a historical reference here from thomas jefferson who -- abby: of course you do, chris. >> i really didn't know you were going to say this, said this, were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, i should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. yes, presidents have always had and politicians have always had problems with the press. they want good press. the press doesn't always give it to them. but what jefferson was saying there is despite all off our dispute, that to the functioning of a tree and -- free and fair democracy, you must have an independent rest. donald trump said, look, we're big boys, we criticize presidents, they want to criticize us back, that's fine, but when he said that the fake news media is not my enemy, it's the enemy of the american

people, i believe that crosses an important line. abby: well, you know, one of those people up in arms about this is senator john mccain who's overseas at the moment and says the president's attacks are the sign of a dictatorship. here's what he said. >> if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have of to have a free and many times adversarial press. and without it, i'm afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. that's how dictators get started. the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press. and i'm not saying that that's, that president trump is trying to be a dictator. i'm just saying we these to learn the lessons of history. abby: chris, what do you make of those remarks and also the battle that is brewing between with president trump and john mccain? because as you know, these two need each other. >> wedgier i would say in terms of what john mccain said there particularly with the clarification, but trying to hut

down an independent and fair freed ma or free media, not necessarily even fair. part of what the founders said is it can be unfair, but the idea is in the wash of all of the media coming out with all of their reports, it's a check on power. and he was saying that in state, in dictatorships this is state-run media, and there's no opportunity for a free, independent press. so i think he's exactly right there. as far as trump and mccain, it's absolutely going to be a continuing soap opera, saga in this administration. sharp differences between the two, especially when it comes to foreign policy and especially when it comes to russia. clayton: reince rebus on your show this morning -- priebus on your show this morning, has said some critical things about the press. what are you going to be talking about with him today? >> i'm going to be talking about the press and the relationship. [laughter] this is an important time, frankly, for the press to strike back. we are not included in the list of deplorables, if you will,

that donald trump said, but we were singled out by barack obama, and i don't think it matters whether it's the president singling out the o that you represent or -- the organization that you represent or the other organizations, it's wrong. we can take criticism, but to say that we're the enemy of the american people, i think, is really crosses an important line. in addition, rush limbaugh, can't wait to get him involved in this conversation. pete: he'll certainly have comments. you talk about the free and independent press, but i think president trump would say i'm taking on a press that tells you they're unbiased, but actually the new york time has a massive bias, and we're supposed to pretend like that's the mainstream media, that's the paper of record. you know, when our founders were there, there were part stand press be -- partisan press, and they were open about it. he's saying they tell you they're unbiased, but i know they're biased. is there something there? it's not about the independent press, it's about the bias of the press. >> i think there's absolutely something there, pete. and if he had said that, you

wouldn't have herald a peep out of me -- heard a peep out of me. lord knows barack obama criticized fox news, donald trump wants to criticize "the new york times," that's fine. but it's different from saying we are the enemy of the american people. that's a different thing. and be i know that there are a lot of listeners who are going to reflexively take donald trump's side on this. it's a different thing when a president -- because if it's a president you like who talks about trying, the press being the enemy of the people, then it's going to be a president you don't like saying the same thing, and it's very dangerous. abby: we look forward to your show, chris, it's going to be a good one. clayton: thanks, chris. abby: it's all happening across the country, organized protesters disrupting republican town halls. new york congressman tom reeled is the latest victim, as an ad in a local newspaper shows, his protesters have some training. he discussed this ad with us on wednesday. take a listen. >> it's been kind of an organized protest at times, and i think this is just a higher level of that organization, and some of these folks are just very passionate on the hard

that's what free societies require. but when you say you're not biased and you are, anyone has the right to call that out. >> last night rick jenkins was there early ahead of of this event. he interviewed gene huber, who was the first person in line at four in the morning at his rally in florida. president trump watched that on television earlier in the afternoon before he arrived in melbourne, florida, and he pointed him out in the audience and said, "that's my guy," and he called him up on stage, he ended up doing a little bit of a speech there behind the podium abby: he made it over the fence, the president said jump over the fence, you look like a fit guy and the secret service tackled him because their main job is to make sure that the president was safe and they weren't sure what's going on. the president said, no, no, let him up there. and he gets up there, and you could see in that video, i mean, he was so excited, and he gave this great speech about why he supported trump. we had him on this morning last hour. he didn't have a voice. he'd lost it from being so

excited last night. he didn't really sleep last night. here's what he said that he wanted his message to be and how excited he was to be put on stage last night. >> he says, you're a healthy guy jump over that fence. i said, oh! next thing i did, next thing i notice i get pretty much tackled grabbed, and i'm getting forced out of the building. and i'm like, the president wants to talk to me! i'm hearing from the left that this was planted, that president trump made this to happen on purpose, like we set this up. no, it didn't. it did not happen, because in my facebook you see 90% of it's all president trump. so they think like we're like friends. president trump, i want to thank you so much for that opportunity that you did for me. that just shows us we, the people in our movement that you care about us, the american people. thank you, sir.

look, there are some people saying yes, we could hit 30,000 on the dow industrials. we're at 20,000 now. you could hit 30,000 at the end of president trump's first term if he gets his entire legislative schedule through. tax cuts, deregulation. you gotta get all of that. if the economy expands at 4% a year, if corporate profits keep on going on the way they're going now. >> a lot of if's. >> a lot of if's. you get all of that, then stock prices will go up on another surge maybe toward the 30,000 mark but i'm not predicting that abby: you're saying they're up right now really because they're hopeful. >> yes abby: let's take a look just the stock market numbers since inauguration day to give you a sense of how high it has gone u. >> well, that's inauguration day abby: inauguration day. >> you should really check it out from election day. when it became apparent that donald trump was gonna be the next president of the united states of america, the market just took off. wait a second. we have gained $2.7 trillion in

national wealth since the election on november the 8th. and that was because trump was elected on the expectation of tax cuts and massive economic growth. pete: now let's talk tough, 'cause you talk about the tough stuff here, tax cuts. we're hearing about the corporate tax cut down to 15%, that's what the president wants, the individual rate. earlier we were talking about protecting social security and medicare, a huge drain. also expanding the military, already $600 billion a year for the defense budget. how's he gonna do it all? how does that all come together with this congress? >> have iie difficult proposition. how do you get the reform and repeal of obamacare followed by all these tax cuts, followed by an infrastructure package, followed by financial reform, how do you get all of that packed in to, say, the first year? with great difficulty you pack it into the first year. odds are the president won't get all of that legislative agenda, but if he gets some of it,

especially deregulation and tax cuts, you could have another -- abby: i'm gonna play rand paul here for two seconds. what does that mean for the deficit? >> the deficit goes up abby: yeah, a lot. >> that is inevitable. right now we're running a deficit of a half trillion dollars a year. that's now. if we cut taxes and don't have any revenue coming in to make up for that, the deficit will go up in the short term. >> in the short term, you say. >> wait, wait. the theory is if you get 4% growth longer term then you get a lot more money coming into the federal treasury just like you did under ronald reagan when he cut takes us. >> if you were chief of staff, stewart, you would say cut rehabilitations and tax cuts? >> right. i think job one is tax reform. that's not gonna be the way it happens. it's gonna be repeal and replacement of obamacare. >> stuart varney. you got watch varney & co. nine a.m. on the fox business networks. great show. stuart, great to see to see you.

i love this filmmaker, and good morning to you and great to be on with you this morning. this filmmaker is an amazing visionary. i love the film he did, a film called "hero" back in the early 2000s with jet li. he directs masterfully. they actually built a one- one-kilometer wall as a set pete pete. matt damon's character is defending "the great wall" of china from mythical creatures. visually it works. that's the part that works. the problem with the movie is the script is so stupid and they keep oversplaying -- the script overexplains dialogue. it tells you what you're watching on screen and to me it makes the audience feel like they're stupid at times. also his accent, matt damon's accent was really, really bad, it kept changing in every single scene. you have half the movie good because of the action, the other half is bad, i gave it a 2.5 out of 5. one of the cool things about the film is there's a shot in the film with this arrow, so matt damon has three arrows and he's

huge thing because, frankly, when i was on the bench in miami immigration holds were the norm. i would finish a case, and i would turn to my corrections officer and he'd say -- and my corrections officer, vince, would say "judge, he's not going anywhere, he's got an ins hold." that's the way it was. four years ago miami changed that when the mayor said it was costing the county too much money because they had to hold people in jail for days while they waited for ins and that was money coming out of the county's coffers so they decided to no longer do that. now that donald trump has said, "well, then we're gonna start denying cities federal money, well, if you think that they don't want to lose the money it cost to house an inmate for a day or two while they wait for i ins, they definitely don't want to lose tens or hundreds of millions dollars from the federal government. from miami it's not a big deal, but it's a harbinger of what's gonna happen across the country as cities are denied the money that they depend on for their budgets and for their special projects. and i think you're gonna start seeing city after city after

city revoking its sanctuary city status. >> we had mayor jimenez on last month, and said we're gonna enforce the law. >> the message of miami-dade county is we're not a sanctuary city, we never have been a sanctuary city. we provide the federal government with information whenever we arrest somebody here who is an illegal immigrant. when the federal government wants us to detain somebody, we will do so, but in the normal course of business, our officers nothing has changed today from what it was yesterday. our officers are here to enforce the laws of the united states and state and us. abby: we also had the president tweeting about this, miami-dade mayor drops sanctuary policy, right decision, strong. how important is his role, the president's, in this conversation? >> well, he's the one who's started the change everyone's been clamoring about the fact that it doesn't make sense that we're a country of laws and cities are just flouting the law

how did they make amends? something that president trump said he would be great at is negotiationing working with members on capitol hill. >> you raise a good point, i believe there have been real opportunities, the supreme court nomination has gone smoothly, he brought in leaders in both parties to talk about how are you moving forward in senate. to your point, him negotiations and working with leaders in both parties there is potential there that barack obama did not work on. on other hand, he brought in those leaders from both parties to talk about gorsuch nomination, a reporter asked about a mightin meeting that bll had, president said, he lied about vietnam, he has to be careful about that stuff. >> window is still open.

congress gives it. they don't exist if we don't create them, only court that has a right to do that he is talking about is the u.s. supreme court. there are some things that are not review able with national security, you cannot have some judge in california or washington, second guessing the president. i have now doubt there are some terrorists that made it in to it country because of that circuit. clayton: we had allen on the show. earlier, saying it is simple what president has to layout. when is b -- that message with e green card. >> there was some confusion, and as pointing out with one that is rolling out this week, they are going to taylor that, so we don't have the problem that
