tensions between his administration and some media outlets. the white house, on the defensive, about its response to reports of russian links working to destroy credit reports. senior staff asked senior members of the intelligence community and mom makers to reebok critical news stories about the campaign ties to russia. in the meantime president trump is focusing on his next big event, addressing a joint session of congress on tuesday, his very first such speech. today, we got a preview as he spoke about lost jobs during his weekly address. >> this week i met with manufacturing ceos who are going to be read working to bring back those jobs, and i mean really good paying jobs. i will be talking more about these issues in my joint session address to congress and to all americans next tuesday evening. >> kristen fisher was live from the white house tonight. let's start with the washington post report which claims the trump administration was actually trying to enlist

lawmakers. the counter stories about the alleged height to russia. is there any truth to that. >> julia, senior administration officials say they did point some reporters to some members of congress, but only after those members of congress had contacted the white house first. two of the lawmakers in question are senator richard burr from north carolina and kevin nunez from california. they told me they contacted the white house first, not the other way around to say they were already speaking with reporters to set the record straight, and only then did the white house house.other reporters to those two lawmakers. this is a similar but separate issue from what white house press secretary sean spicer confirmed yesterday that the white house did ask fbi officials to speak to the press to clarify reports, but today the white house says they did not instigate these conversations with members of congress to do the same.

>> how big of a deal is it that president trump will not be attending this year's white house correspondents dinner. >> i think the average american, probably not a big id deal, but to the white house press corps and washington establishment, this is a huge deal. it has happened before, but it hasn't happened in a very long time. it really just cements the level of hostility between this white house and the press corps that covers it. right after president trump announced this on twitter, the president of the white house correspondent association, jeff mason from reuters released a statement. they take note of president trump's announcement announcement on twitter that he does not plan to attend the
