as it turns out, some stage hand actually gave warren beatty and faye dunaway the identical card. and it said best actress on it. and inside it said la la land emma stone. so it was an accounting error like nothing we have ever seen on television. >> how much time do they plan for the awards writing these jokes, figuring out a way to make it funny and interesting and attacking president trump. that is what no one is talking about this morning. twitter went nuts over. this i missed the ending. i was asleep. i didn't watch any of these awards. i went to sleep. woke up. this is all i have been reading all morning long. brian: talking about it so much i made myself watch all night and in and out and i could not believe how long this was going on. and prime time and the biggest time. they have big announcements early so like 9:00, 10:00 editing, great people and do all the hard work. that's not why people tune in. other thing i understand is both sides of the stage have

identical cards in case there is a stage left and stage right. one side wasn't up to date with the other side. i don't think you can fault warren beatty, do you? steve: no. absolutely not. brian brian you are not supposed to go up there and have the skill of jimmie kim my or johnny carson my gut tells me something is wrong here. this is just an actor told to read the one title of a movie off a card. and maybe he could have not given it to faye dunaway maybe he could say wait a second, this doesn't seem right. steve: had he looked at the outside he would have seen it said best actress. in fact when you zoom in you can see he is hold the card that says best actress. instead what you do at the end, you open the envelope, you open it up and there was emma stone, la la land and that's why he showed it to faye dunaway. and she goes la la land. brian brian how classy was it for the la la land for that produce tore come up and say, listen, we didn't win. you guys won.

abby: can i end with the miss universe tweet they started the whole thing when they announced the wrong winner she was crowned and horrible. they tweeted. have your people call our people. we know what to do. brian: that blakes it a lot better and steve harvey has to be thrilled and good ad-lib that jimmy kimmel had. steve: on friday something going on in the west wing. sean spicer the press secretary to donald trump the president of the united states called in a staff meeting and said how come i'm reading all of these what are presumed to be private conversations and private staff meetings with the communications department? why am i reading them in the newspaper? unflattering remarks about the west wing? and so he had everybody in the communications departments apparently leave their phone on a table as they came in and then he said we are going to have the white house lawyer look through your phones and see who you have been talking to. i'm sick and tired of these leaks. brian: do you have a problem with that? because i don't.

i have no problem with because this is national secrets. you are either on my team or not on my team. if i'm sean spicer i'm doing the same thing. listen, i'm having this private meeting with 10 to 12 people and it's in politico the next day or the "new york times." they leaked out the conversation about the leak. abby: he said this is the first time doing this? i'm being nice here. this happens again and you come back in my office it's going to be bad ending. i think he also gave up some of his stuff sean spicer as parity of this in front of the group saying i'm going to do it too to show you how important it is to all of us. steve: he showed a couple of tweets. he had a tweet called confide that encrypts things and as soon as you text it deletes. he apparently deleted it right there. this particular communications department at the white house is comprised of a number of people from different campaigns. differential campaigns that hated donald trump. now they are working for donald trump. so are they out to make donald trump last night there at the

governor's meeting make him look good or make him look bad with these leaks a lot of the things look bad. so they have got to crack down and of course the president wants to crack down on them, too. brian: corey lewandowski had that same point when he was on with chris wallace yesterday. >> any information being leaked out of this administration needs to have a lid put on it and hard to do have career bureaucrats sitting in government agencies that have access to information that have completely different agenda. if the senate would confirm the selections for secretary and under positions we could stop those things. hopefully the senate will take those up and confirm those. brian: not just the senate. people that the trump administration could be appointing and hiring. they have got to pick up the pace. they did the nominees quick. the senate held them down and surprise and disappointing to every american because you can't function with half a staff. the people that need to be appointed without confirmation, i'm talking about 500 plus people.

we have not even heard about a democrat saying positive things in a long time. >> i know. you know, and it's very clear that if the states succeed the country will succeed. i think everybody recognizes that. abby: yeah. governor, we are all waiting to see what happens with this new executive order on immigration. how is this going to impact the governor because ultimately this is going to fall a lot of it on the states. >> well, i will tell you. i support it very, very strongly. i will tell you why we support it as s. we have recently had a terrorist in our state. and so it's about safety, in my mind. and so we just need to make sure. we all want immigration to continue but we want to make sure that it's done safely. and that's all the issue. i welcome it. i think it's good for the country. abby: what do you want to come out of that order? any specifics? >> you know, i just want people to be vetted properly. steve: yeah, we all do. super vetting. >> that's all we want. we just want to be vetted.

stf. steve: it's security. governor, let's ask you a little bit -- now, tomorrow night the president is going to have his address to the joint session of congress. according to the "new york times," apparently today to all the agencies, they are being requested to make sharp budget cuts across the board, except at the department of defense. so it sounds like we are going to spend a lot more on our military. they are not going to touch social security or medicare. because the president has made it very clear he does not want to do that. what do you think about that as a recipe for success? >> well, i am a little concerned that they are not going to touch medicare. i think what they should be doing with medicare is return the $800 billion that they stole to put into obamacare. and i really do believe that it was stealing from the american people. the american people have been paying in to this program and obamacare went in and took $800 billion out to make his program work. and i just don't think that's appropriate. they should at least return that money.

>> what does show compassion is that the laws need to change. so he was booed. which is really sad thing to me because it was opportunity to show children and ourselves that we need to have compassion for people who are going through these types of things. it's also important for the public to know this is a very rare case. there is not a huge population of our culture that are transgendered, so, thank god he is fighting through this because it's going to change laws. brian: darby, i don't know actually if you have compassion. do you just go with what the wrestler wants? >> it should defer back to some sort of base and if we look at the laws, if we look at international sports or olympic sport laws, if you are taking a performance enhancer, you are not allowed to compete at that level. and the testosterone should be considered that way. and then we can remove ourselves from the emotional piece where it's a decision about his desire to change identity.

fixing v.a. as part of that budget that we see. steve: what does that mean? how much do you need? >> well, for us, we do need the that we can care for american's veterans we have been seeing more americans coming to v.a. for care. this isn't a matter we need more money. we need et ability to restructure this system and to make the changes that have plagued it for years. abby: doctor, now you are in control. you have got a very tough job ahead. a lot of people, so many waiting to see how things can get better at the v.a. what are you going to do differently now in this new role now that you are commanding things now. you are the one in charge. >> why are going to focus on three things. we are going to focus on accountability to make sure that we have the very best employees working at v.a. and we have thousands and thousands of the very best employees in healthcare and all v.a. working there. but there are a few that, frankly, shouldn't be working there. we're going to make sure that we can blake those changes.

secondly, we're going to focus on giving veterans more choice because veterans deserve et very best services anywhere. third, we are going to be a very transparent organization. we're going to make sure that we can earn back the trust of our veterans. brian: a lot of people thought wow, what a great idea. put incentives in so we get that capitalist feeling see more patients and have more success stories we will have more money. they lied about the numbers. how ca how are you going to work incentive session in where cantor wasn't anywhere. >> this is about making sure that people understand why the department of veterans affairs is there in the first place. it really is a mission-driven organization to serve those who have served us. and we have to make sure that, number one is that everybody understands those values. brian: right. >> if you don't have those values, you shouldn't be working in the v.a. brian: secretary, real quick, how do you expect to make people accountable when there is a union involved? >> well, the union actually

invades on art, it makes it garbage. the point was to educate people, and i think they went off the rails when they tried to do that. steve: but for a business model, as the make sense that a four-hour telecast was so anti-donald trump. and it was donald trump until the last ten minutes when it ran off the rails. clearly they had got a point of view. it was way to the left. but still, you want people to like them and go watch the movies, don't you? >> well, sure. a lot of the stuff is garbage anyway. there's nothing good about a lot of the movies. there's amazing renaissance happening that has been for a number of years in television, as you know, scripted television. there's a lot of great stuff that's deeply artistic and challenging and smart and cool. but the movies, their economic model is being really challenged right now. and they're responding by putting out worse stuff, i think. abby: we want to get your thoughts as well on the dnc race. the big race that happened over the weekend. who was going to rebuild the

democratic party? and ultimately it went to the establishment player tom prez. a lot of people including president trump saying this whole thing was rigged. he had barack obama behind him, the clintonitis, what are your thoughts? do you think it's rigged? >> well, it's rigged in some broader sense. sure. not just the democratic party but the democratic party in general is for the better funded candidate. the better funded side. they pay more attention to donors than they do for voters. and perez was the pick for clinton people. ellison was a pick of a lot of the grassroots. but in the end, the money side won. and what they're hoping that common loathing of donald trump will unite the party. they have a serious rift in the middle of that party. brian: they really do. >> and weirdly, and paradoxically, and you do this on fox and friends, i think bernie sanders and the elephant people as far out and socialist they are are somewhat more reasonable

because they believe in something. brian: well, listen, they were quickly to point out the tea party of john boehner and back and forth, you have to understand bernie sanders no has interest in gettin getting along with this new dnc. says the democratic party is in worse shape. worse shape than ever since the 1920s. and it's going to take a huge uprising to turn things around. and donald trump had the best tweet yesterday. congratulations to these tom perez. i could not be happier for him or for the republican party. he sees this as a big win. that was kind of fun. >> yeah. but i actually think if -- it's going to turn out that the democratic party is going to need to be more obstructionist just because they need to keep hatred of trump, you know, front and center because it's the only thing that holds the party together. the paradox is the ellison people and the bernie people are way more likely to have common cause with trump because they're both

sympathetic to populous economics. like, they might actually have something in common with the infrastructure plan, with some of the health care ideas. but the obama and the clinton people, they're just about winning. they just want power. they don't care what it takes. they don't have principles. i don't think it's good news for anybody. steve: well, the dnc when you look at the game plan going into the november election, it was essentially, hey, vote for memory she's not donald trump. and if they're going to continue that, that's a loser. >> well, it's a loser and also tiresome and boring. okay. he's immoral. i'm a good person. fine. what does it have to do with the country? where are your ideas? they don't have any, and they may get along for the next year or sore without having to present ideas because they can make it all about trump. abby: tucker, they were saying yesterday, we had ed klein that said it could only get worse from here because under the surface, you have bernie sanders really motivating

people at the state level to nominate, you know, chairman of the states that could really have an impact nationwide. i don't see this inside the democratic party settling down any time soon. >> no. because, look, a lot of the grassroots of that party are really hostile to wealth and to capitalism. yet the party is run and funded by a very small number of extremely rich people. so the conflict is inherit. the grassroot in that party really hate the people who run it. that's a huge problem over time. abby: and motivated by the vote over the weekend. >> that's exactly right. brian: do you think president obama is going to be fundamentally behind this? he's going to push this, and that would violate the unsaid rules of the presidents club? >> those rules have been violated. and this is another huge problem for the party. as long as obama and the people around him are running it, i mean, how could new leadership emerge? nothing grows in the shade.

exploiting weakness. it's going to be very important. if that's the goal to defeat isis, which i believe it should be that we project strength. >> i just want to make sure you understand. you're against the plan? >> i'm for an immigration policy that upholds the law. steve: okay. what do you think about that? >> again, he didn't answer the question directly because he's not going to take a shot at donald trump. but he did take a shot at barack obama. that the reason we're having this problem today is because we followed the policy of retreat for the last eight years, and we pulled our troops out of iraq. he was going to pull them all out of afghanistan and now has troops in 18 countries, affiliates all over the world. the bush administration's policy was fight them there so we don't have to fight them here at home and i think trump administration is going to go back to that.
