therefore, i have recused myself in the matter that deal with the trump campaign. >> sean: attorney general sessions said the decision was reached over a matter of weeks and not of reaction to a "washington post" story that was published late last night with the headline... in this capacity as a senator, jeff sessions was a senior member of the senate armed services committee. it was not out of the ordinary that he talked to foreign ambassadors because as a matter of fact, he spoke to dozens and dozens of them last year alone. he was doing his job and that is not at all. this ridiculous notion that the old radical left is pushing that attorney general sessions committed perjury.

he lied under oath during his confirmation hearing. watch and listen very closely to this exchange but they are referring to between liberal democratic senator al frankenstein and then senator sessions.de >> cnn has just published a story and i'm telling you this, someone that has just been published. i'm not expecting you to know whether or not it is true or not. cnn just published a story alleging that the intelligence community provided documents to the president-elect last week that included information that russian operatives claimed tos have compromising personal and financial information about mr. trump. these documents also allegedly say there was a continuing exchange of information during the campaign between trump surrogates and intermediaries for the russian government.

again, i am telling you this is just coming out. you know, if it is true -- it is extremely serious. if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the trump campaign communicated with the russian government in the course of this campaign, what would you do? >> senator franken, i am not aware of any of those activities. i have been called a surrogate during the campaign and i did not have communication with the russians. i am unable to comment on that. >> sean: he was responding to that question, which turned out to not be true. that is what the democrats are hyperventilating about. losing their minds over. yes, jeff sessions as a senator met with a russian ambassador

but he did so in that capacity. not on behalf of the trump campaign, which is why when he was asked specifically about the election, he said no, that was not me. that wasn't me. by the way, where was the hysteria from democrats during the campaign -- clinton met with loretta lynch in a plane on the tarmac for almost 30 minutes when hillary clinton was under investigation by the fbi and justice department? lynch never recused herself. jeff sessions clearly wanted to assure you, the american people, that all russian investigation will be free of any political interference. jared kushner and lieutenant general mike flynn met with the russian ambassador in december. after the president won. this whole smear campaign is just really part of the democrats larger fake news conspiracy theory that it russian hacking all the reasonst why hillary clinton lost the election and somehow members of the trump campaign secretly

coordinated the whole thing. they've been pushing this ever since donald trump won the presidency but back in january, james clapper, president obama's old director of national intelligence said russian interference did not impact vote tallies. paul ryan said today that there is zero evidence the trump campaign ever coordinated with russia. >> the house intelligence community just finished coming up with its oversight plan to continue investigations. we will always make sure we are making and protecting our sources and methods and getting to the bottom of any of these things. we have seen no evidence that anybody on the trump campaign or an american was included with working with the russians. >> sean: that chairman is devin nunes, he said the same thing and earlier today also added this.

>> we have to be very careful, it is a slippery slope. all the countries have embassies here, in the world. a lot of them are adversaries but we all meet with those. senators and congressmen meet with those ambassadors on a regular basis. >> sean: russia and the people from the trump campaign somehow conspired and impacted votes in the election? then we would be all over that story kind of like obama did to defeat benjamin netanyahu and we will give you the details but they all left propaganda media and the democrats for months have been going ballistic over the russian election influence without any evidence. they never told you the truth about president obama and his own foreign election interference. when i talk about israel with a congressional investigation back in 2014, a political group used $300,000 of obama state department grant money in israel to create a political apparatus to defeat the israeli prime minister. where was the outrage about influencing elections then?

where was the wall-to-wall news coverage? where was hyperventilating and mass hysteria? they did not care because it was their guy, their ideological soulmate that was doing it from the white house. here with reaction, laura ingraham and jay sekulow. there has never been a shred of evidence, he is clearly responding to al frankenstein. there is an exchange of information between trump surrogates and intermediaries in the russian government. he said it wasn't me. he answered truthfully. >> you call him al frankenstein, i call him al franken fraud. we have a competing monikers there sean. when you hear it, he is going a step farther than the question opposed.

this investigation, having black male, the trump administration -- he offers more of an answer then was even requested by franken. if he was trying to hide some nefarious contacts which included a meeting at a heritage foundation, some type of reception at the rnc when 25 other ambassadors, i'm sure they shared a quiche at the buffet table or something. what you are witnessing are the peroxisomes of feigned fury. they don't think jeff sessions colluded with the russians on the campaign. this is their only way to exert what they think is relevant and

perhaps power. they want to delegitimize trump. this is out of the playbook, they have nothing else going on, no policy ideas. all they have with a bunch of dirt to throw and it is childish. i don't think it will work in the midterm elections. that is what you are going with, jeff sessions is colluding with the russians? it won't do well. it will help. >> sean: it gets even a little more humorous. not only is it selective moral outrage but this is a debunked fake cnn news story that also included hookers at the ritz-carlton in moscow apparently urinating on his bed. sorry, laura. speak of the reality is that these stories and this whole narrative that has been created is a false narrative.

>> sean: isn't what that news report was referring to? >> yes. here is the problem, sean. none of this is fact. none of this is true. what jeff sessions went through today should make all of us outraged. here's a guy that answered the question that he was asked, which as a lawyer, i always told my client to do. answer the question asked, do not speculate or go to hypotheticals. answer the question asked. what did he do? they create this outreach where chuck schumer is outraged, nancy pelosi is calling for him to resign. the fact is, and that this is what really is happening here, you have a shadow government that is leaking this information, people who are in step with their previous administration. they are leaking this and that is what people should be investigating. why is this being leaked, that is what we need to know. not whether jeff sessions went with an ambassador when he was a united states senator. guess what? senators meet with ambassadors.

that would include senator franken. >> sean: when you really look at this, laura, i think jay has hit on the real issue here. there are some 500 confirmations that they need to go through for the donald trump government to be in place and only today they got dr. ben carson and rick perry in their positions. you have a lot of holdovers from the obama administration that are sabotaging this administration and then you have career bureaucrats that clearly do not support president trump. what do they need to do to get rid of these people? >> this is where mitch mcconnell has got to really start playing hardball in this confirmation process. the u.s. trade representative is being held up on serious ground. 25 years of his life he is devoted to these trade issues and is doing a fabulous job of it. one of the most talented people out there, why don't we have a u.s. trade rep? on the hold over, people have to general, the acting deputy

attorney general was an obama appointee federal judge. i'm not trying to cast discouragement but people often understand that that acting deputy attorney general could appoint a special prosecutor. would that not be rich? to have an obama appointee prosecute a special investigation. >> here is what we have. jeff sessions did the thing he did not have to do. he recused himself voluntarily, something his predecessor refused to do. he took the highest of high ground. he has to be the attorney general that he is and put this nonsense away. i suspect the political reality is going to be different though, we need to be prepared. you have those inside the government, deeply entrenched inside, that will do everything they can to stop any progress going forward because they disagree with that. it is not their role, they are

another fake news story that has no meaning. they are shocked to discover for example that the russian ambassador was 1 of 30 people -- even the post downplayed this and recognized it was so stupid it was embarrassing. there were apparently 30 ambassadors to come up to congratulate sessions at the republican national convention and a heritage foundation or such,io they were all standing around talking. this was supposed to be the big meeting? the other thing was, he was very clear -- franken asked him about campaign activities. he said i never discussed them with the russians. it turned out the russian ambassador came by to the senate office and is 1 of 46 ambassadors that he had met with. here's what i am intrigued with, sean. i watched the press conference. he said he asked my team to

advise me, they told me to recuse myself. i am following their advice. that this is all clear. it was pointed out the president had said maybe he shouldn't have said that. he proved his independence. he did what he thought was right. not what he thought the white house wanted. i want to see how "the new york times" and "washington post" spin this. here's a guy who has done exactly what he's supposed to do. for the right reasons. to prove his independence. in my fantasy life it would be nice tomorrow to see an editorial in the post and at times congratulating the attorney general for doing the right thing. it may not happen.n. >> sean: they are the modern-day propaganda. they are not real news anymore, their advocacy news. all of this is predicated on the clintonn conspiracy that, in

fact, the leaked emails of john podesta and hillary clinton's emails all were -- it was a collusion between the russians and the trump campaign. as he pointed out last week, devin nunes said no, there is no evidence whatsoever. how did they keep pushing something that we do not have any evidence for? >> the great virtue of fake news is that it is fake. you keep trying to apply a standard as though these were real newspapers. or as though and cbs were real news agencies. this is all fake and we will get it for eight years. if he is succeeded by a republican who is is in the trump tradition, we will get it more. they just make it up. >> sean: right. >> they don't have to have any kind of -- i want to go back to what i sent. i want to put you on the spot.

i talked to him earlier today and he said it is locked up. there are things in there like the cadillac tax that is being renamed, a mandate that remains and that he and other conservatives and the house, the freedom caucus are against. what is your reaction? >> i don't think we will know until we see it. it takes a long time, theg process. even with your fans. they may have staff working on the bill right now, it may be in seclusion. it is going to become public, and the minute it becomes public, it will be on the internet, and you will have thousands of experts and lobbyists and others analyzing within minutes. if there are really dumb things in the bill, it will be very obvious in the first 24 hours,, and then we'll have to go through and amending process. i have great respect for speaker ryan.

he and i have both held that jo job. it's a tough job, but in the end, he serves his conference and if there are some things in there that are unacceptable, my guess is they will be taken out. >> sean: it seems like there is a communication, they are assuming that these things are in there, they believed that they are in there but then nobody is talking to each other. why not let us see the bill now? why if it's being scored? >> i think the bill is probably not complete, frankly. i think they are probably looking at it, fixing it, looking at thingsng that don't quite fit, don't quite work. the fact is, sooner or later, it will go to, primarily, the way that the committee of the house commit butco also to congress. depending on how they have shaped the bill. or it will go to the senate, this doesn't happen overnight. i certainly don't believe the republican leadership is going to do what nancy pelosi tried to do and harry reid tried to do

with obamacare. it would be a disaster to try to ram through something without having it out in the open, without making it amendable, without any chance to talk it through. nobody is smart enough to fix 20% of the american economy, aug matter of life and death for every american, in secret.20 it will become public. what speaker paul ryan said it's absolutely true. tom price, the new secretary of health and human services, a medical doctor, spent years as a member of congress working on this variation. he was chairman of the budget committee. well, they have a guy in health and human services who understands how to work withwe house republicans. he is very acceptable to the senate republicans, they'reta going to have to talk all the stuff through and they will be a lot of tension. i have no doubt there will be amendments operating and some of those amendments will pass but that is the legislative process.

that's how america is supposed to operate. >> sean: you make me feel better when you say -- you puts it in a box. what you need to get the bill passed, it's complicated. making sausage. it's also important though, one of the things americans like the most about the president, and why his popularity is soaring, and why people are coalescing around his agenda is because he is keeping his promises. i think it's so important on everyone of these issues that they don't really have a lot of time -- even though they have both houses of congress. there is a period of time next year, we begin on the election cycle again.es am i wrong? >> yes, you are wrong. >> sean: thanks a lot, i thought we were friends. tell me where i am wrong. it's fine. >> we passed welfare reform in the summer of an election year.

and it got vetoed twice. we passed it three times. i got signed a third t time. here is a very simple question. when people thoroughly understand this bill, do they think it is better for them? if the bill is better for them, i do not care whether it is the month before the election. it will be hard to stop it. if they think the bill is worse for them, you will create a new tea party movement. i did not have an artificial deadline. i think speaker ryan has said with great sincerity that he hopes to get everything done in 200 days. >> sean: okay, fair enough. i am not saying any of this is easy. go ahead. >> if you take taxes, infrastructure and obamacare, if they can pull those three off into hundred days they will have done more than reagan did in '81 and more than we did in '95. you made me feel better tonight. amazing for somebody who is beating me down on my own show. unbelievable. up next, tonight on "hannity."

working with ceos by the dozens ever since he was elected, not waiting until he took the oathoz of office. he is talking to shipyard workers, talking to coal miners. he is not telling them that we are going to kill your industry, he's talking about building your industry, creating more jobs. also talking about a horizon of possibility of which we have not heard a leader speak for eight years. >> sean: quick response.e. austan? >> we have added 15 million jobs in the last seven years. i hope that donald trump adds them in a faster rate but so far, all he has is vague talk. he doesn't have a tax plan yet. >> sean: why did we add 13 million to the food stamp rolls under obama? >> poverty is down in the last four years as you know. food stamps, we changed the rules of the program. that's not indicative that the economy is worse.

george w. bush for his new book, "portraits of courage," we had the chance to sit down and interview some of the brave american heroes that were featured in the book includingve purple heart recipient, sergeant milo. he calls you milo? >> he can call me whatever he wants. [laughter] >> sean: you had a pretty severe brain trauma. tell us what happened. >> i had two separate traumatic brain injuries. my first in iraq, and then the second was probably more prevalent in afghanistan. there was a young teenage boy right on the afghanistan-pakistan border, about 10 feet from me. he detonated himself and gave my entire platoon quite a memory. >> sean: how far away it was he from you? >> probably about 8-10 feet.

>> sean: how are you now? >> it's been a long road, a lot of hard work but i am definitely on the right track and i'm grateful for it. >> sean: you see that the president of the united states drew a portrait of you. what was that like? >> he made me look much better and i appreciate that, sir. >> i thought you said i took some liberties with you. >> i appreciated them. it was incredibly humbling to think that someone i choset to follow and have the utmost respect and would continue to followow anywhere, would take te time out of his life to do something like that for me. it is humbling, surreal. it's a true honor. >> sean: how long did it take for you to get to the point where you are now, where you are helping a lot of other vets?o how long was that process of healing? >> i feel like it started back in 2009 after iraq.

it has been an ongoing adventure. it is going to continue for the rest of my life. >> one way to look at it -- sorry to in, one way to look at it is by helping other vents he is still healing. there is a long healing process and that is what you will find in this book, the healing process is accelerated when w somebody helps somebody else. helping people find work. >> sean: you are helping vets find work? >> yeah, we have a real map of veterans. >> sean: you said there is a divide with the public sector and you actually said well, maybe sniper on your resume -- a company isn't looking for a sniper. but aren't you looking for people that are disciplined, hard-working, and will go above and beyond? >> ask milo, he is the one helping people find work.

is a language differential. we are trying to bridge that gap so the employer understands the vet and the vet understands the employer. that's what you are doing. >> sean: explain how that is working out. >> i work for hire heroes usa. what we focus on is turning military focus into civilian success. a term that we toss around at the industry is civilian icing that lingo, that jorgen. like the president said, if you want to be a general manager at an auto sales place, you're not going to say i was a sniper. they are going to say, great,r how do you sell cars? some of the skills that have come of the operational planning, they are so meticulous with what they do. you talk to any sniper in the world, they will say they are better at math than half the people i know. and probably more so. we focus on highlighting the skills that they may not realizk they have or don't think about on that everyday basis. they are the future leaders.

>> sean: if you are military skills into everyday skills but they also have that added discipline, dedication. >> personal responsibility. >> loyal, hard-working. the most selfless people you'll ever meet. if we do not know how to do something right now, if you put the task in front of them, i promise you we will get it done. >> sean: how well are you doing?t >> we are doing really well. at last replaced over 6,000 veterans and new careers. and i mean careers, not just jobs. we will continue to do so. i think will will continue to knock it out of the park. when they hire these men and women, what they will get. we are a group of men and women that are not willing to quit. we will never quit when it comes to this. >> sean: this is now your life's vocation, your passion.we what you love. >> i will spend the rest of my life doing what i can to help my brothers and sisters in any way. >> sean: this is your like
