that he had lots of meetings of that kind. but there were no meetings about elections -- electoraler processes. there was no way it should be perceived as interference of anr electoral process. there are lots of specialists,ve people working in think tanks, advising hillary or advising people, working for people. >> tucker: former clinton campaign spokesperson denied this, sort of. think it's not true whether using the word probably, is my guess. it looks like the media narrative could be in big trouble. what's going on here, exactly? joining us now is bob beckel -- tonight after night we talk about russia. if you were to ask me, put a dossier together, russia would not be on the list. what is this about, really?

>> we have to keep in mind here, you are going to get people who are going to come representing campaigns. they can only say well i am with so and so. it is not unusual, first of all. unless you are doing business on behalf of the united states government, in trump's case -- i think there is some issue of intercepts. that may actually prove to be evidence. in clinton's case, who cares now? secondly, there is enough of the russian connection with trump that you can draw a pretty easy on evidence narrative about it. that's the way i see it. the intelligence community it's saying that they have information that has trump campaign people talking to the russians. i get -- i don't find that a

problem, myself. and the whole scheme of things it sounds like a problem. >> tucker: people all across washington on the other cable channels, going wall-to-wall with the russia connection. here is what we know, at the very beginning from the u.s. intel community. the russians tried to break into various email accounts, republicanun and especially the democratic side starting in march of 2015.em that was before trump announced -- before anyone took him geriously. did the russians somehow know that he was going to run and get the republican nomination and then be elected president? >> the whole thing is just -- it's amateur hour all the way around. people do not understand the game of presidential politics. every presidential candidate has 1,000 representatives. on the payroll or not. it would be frankly a little bit of a problem if you did not try to make some contact with major foreign powers around the world

when you are running for president of the united states. everyone goes to israel. i'm not easy on trump.he i am pretty tough on him but the one thing i know is not true is that barack obama taking his phones. but on the russian thing -- there are so many pieces of this russian thing. before that, the business organization was involved with russian businesses and oligarchs. so what? that's their business. >> tucker: sure, and lots of people people were involved with business or satellite states in russia. including the clinton campaign's manager's brother. the point of this is to delegitimize the electoral result and the trump campaign. russia is a real country, there are geopolitical consequences. an act of war, what is an act of

war require? an appropriate response. war. it seems like we are moving towards conflict with russia. why? >> whenever you get people in politics who do not understand foreign policy and geopolitics forget to talk about it in a political context? they are out of their league and it leaves behind a trail -- if you do not pick it up and run with it -- the problem here is there's only one issue. i assume the intelligence communities are looking into this. was there anything with russia having to do with suppression of votes or getting into campaign computers. we do know this, the russianso had conversations and dealt with wikileaks but outside of that, i can as a democrat and liberal, i can't stand up there and say

trumps administration was involved with russia. because i do not know. >> tucker: in your book, you wrote about people's lives blowing up and rebuilding. you have to come to terms with what went wrong before you can rebuild. i wonder if all of this is in addition to being a political exercise, kind of a psychological symptom of a party not a willing to face what actually happened? >> in your mind, which is always -- you could probably reach out to that. i don't think anybody in my party has that kind of depth who could figure something like that out. hillary clinton clearly is somebody that has a lot of thinking to do about what happened. if you look back on that campaign, clearly -- for the first time, the democrats forgot about rural america. what is behind all of this?

it seems to be a little bit of a reach to see that you are going to rebuild yourself by stepping on trump and the russians. there is probably a faster lane to get there. >> tucker: it seems that way. is there a single voter who voted for trump or set up this election who is thinking, vladimir putin hacked the election? i am voting democrat next time? why didn't people who voted democrat for generations vote democrat in this election? >> there's always something about presidential campaigns. you want to justify what you have done if you lose. it wasn't just us, it was not our strategy or candidate, thert are forces out there that we cannot deal with. in some cases, that is true. the economy and other things but when you start putting togethers an international intrigue, worthy of a bad book, you are reaching just too far. i don't think every voter would make that connection anyway.

i mean, did anyone get a call from the russians? >> tucker: it is so bewildering, do donors play a role in this? people spend hundreds of millions of dollars in this. is there an easy way too explain this to them? >> i know i did that myself, when i dealt with our donors. i these guys are getting smarter and smarter now. they understand what goes wrong with a campaign. it was a rural problem for clinton, a well-run, on target campaign up until election night. o and then all of a sudden, you u look at the holes in it. in trump's case, it was a badly run, badly messaged campaign but it happened to be the right message at the right time. all these exercises, every day you get away from the election -- it becomes less and less important in the scheme of things.

the last 25 years, we have essentially phased out the promotion of assimilation and promoted instead of multiculturalism and diversity as if it were our strength. they're using it now to divide us and that is what barack obama did throughout his presidency. >> tucker: everything he said is defensible and probably right, the problem with the tweet was it suggested there is a racial component to american identity.. do you think there is? >> there is a racial component tod all of our discussions here in america. it must be that because the left is constantly pointing to the differences we have. race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, prosperity versus poverty. we are all god's children. we are all created in his image. in america, it has been the most successful nation in merging these distinctions together on the common foundation of rights that come from god. what i should have done, if i had more characters in that

this country. i would like to think -- i have not spoken to steve about this. i would like to think he misspoke and didn't mean it in the way it sounded. >> tucker: was it a misunderstanding between you or is there a deep philosophical gulf between you? >> there is no personal friction between us. yeah. i think how we address our borders, he shares different views, he certainly argues that increases our economy -- he is more of an open borders advocate, i am on the opposite. we should restore the respect for the rule of law or we will become a third world country. there's a philosophical difference but i think he misunderstands what i said. it was characterized by the left as having a race component to it. but you can look down through

forgo $40 billion? >> planned parenthood believes in the wisdom and power of the individual to decide what care is right for them. no one is going to bully, threaten, or bribe planned parenthood to not have that view. 1.5 million people are at risk of losing access to cancer screenings, std testing and treatment and birth control because of this plan by paul ryan and donald trump to take that care away. of course people do not -- they come to planned parenthood and we get reimbursed for providing preventative health care.he we do not get a budget item, a line item and we do not get a big check. we get reimbursed like any hospital for providing a pap test or breast cancer screening. >> tucker: that does not change the question which is, why include abortion if the services provided are necessary? why don't you take that out?

a lot of people think it is murder. then taxpayers can feel good about subsidizing the rest of your services. >> taxpayers do not pay for abortion services. they help reimbursed things like pap tests and cancer screenings. women deserve access to the full range of reproductive health care and that includes t safe, legal abortion. planned parenthood is going to let women make the choices they want to make about their care and go to the doctor they want to go to. >> tucker: i've always wondered this, the most common cancer among women is breast cancer. the majority of breast cancers are discovered in mammograms -- while controversial i think they are still widely agreed upon the best screening. i do not think planned parenthood offers any mammograms? >> most cancers are not initially discovered in mammograms, they are discovered in breast cancer screenings done by gynecologists all over the country. including those at planned parenthood.

like any gynecologist, what we do is we refer people to a mammogram at a radiologist office, which is what every american woman would tell you. they get a breast exam, something is found, and then they get referred to go get a mammogram. if something is found there, they go to get a biopsy. that is how it works. >> tucker: planned parenthood does provide an awful lot of abortions every year. t over 300,000. i think that is right. in that range. the majority of them are after 5.5 weeks, where a fetal heart beat can be detected. i'm wondering, what do you think of that? what is being aborted? if you can hear the heartbeat, what is being aborted? >> abortion is a right in this country, women have their own views on whether or not they want to be pregnant. that is not a viable fetus at 5.5 weeks, anyone knows that.

what you would do is make your own choice. that is all planned parenthood has ever said. >> tucker: what specifically do you think? you work for the biggest abortion provider, if you can hear the heartbeat of this fetus, what is it? is it a piece of tissue or is it to a separate being? >> that is up to each individual to decide what they believe. women in this country, one in three women have an abortion during their lifetime. obviously they are making their own choice. >> tucker: what do you think? >> i'm here to talk about today is that the pence/ryan plan will take away cancer screenings and birth control for millions of women in this country.ke >> tucker: you said that. i think health screenings are important. planned parenthood probably do some good work, but the reason it is a controversial place isis

>> tucker: i'm asking you a human question. i'm not saying it is viable but you can hear the heartbeat. is that a human being or not?t r or not? it does not seem like a tumor or something that is connected to the woman wholly. what does that mean? i would think you have thought about it. >> i've thought about it very much for myself but i'm not going to project onto other women what i believe. what i believe is that women have the right and the choice and we will leave it up to them. at planned parenthood -- we do help them make a choice. i did not help them personally make the choice. they get to make it. whether it is what their minister or their doctor or partner or husband. >> tucker: i know you are smart but you are giving me a very childish answers.

i would think that you would have grappled with this. wow it, this is a profound thing, do you ever pause and say what are they doing? there is another agenda here. a real agenda. >> i look at those protesters and i wonder how they can be so heartless to be yelling the w things that they do at women in their lives when they know nothing about what is going on in that woman's life. they have no idea what service she might be there for. but that is not stopping them. the shame and stigma that is being forced on women. >> tucker: why would they want to do that? s that was a uniquely shallow conversation. thank you for joining us. >> thank you, anytime. >> tucker: up next, is the battle for america over andu christianity lost? how can the faith survive in a post-christian america?

christians but christianity as it has been historically understood is no longer at the center of our nation and how we think of ourselves. if you look at the numbers in the united states, of the people who are falling away from christianity especially in the millennial generation, it is catastrophic. we have never seen anything lika it. the content of the belief thaten christians have is very far from historic orthodox christianity. the notre dame sociologist has talked about we believe now this total feel good, squishy, a christianity that is not biblical christianity. this is what i mean. we are in a post-christian situation in that sense. we have forgotten what it means to be christian. >> tucker: i should point out to our viewers, you are christian and you are notul applauding this trend. but you have a prescription for

sincere christians in america on how to respond to this. >> i am a conservative christian myself. i think this is a terrible thing that is happening in our country. i think we have to wake up as christians and realize the situation where in. we have to get back to traditional christianity. we have to go back and rediscover our roots in terms of what we believe but also in terms of the faith we practice. we've got to place our church and faith above everything else right now. and really dig deep. benedict the 16th said we are living in a time that it's the fall of the roman empire inn terms of our spiritual crisis. i think he is right and i think we have to respond radically to the situation. >> tucker: evangelicalal christians basically have been saying for 30 years that ther: country is deeply sympathetic to us. there's a majority out there somewhere, once they hear our

message they will join with us. we say that is not true, we need to figure out how to engage differently in politics? >> that is right. when i was coming up in the '70s and '80s, the belief among christian conservativesig without the country was basically with us but we were ruled by a liberal elite who kept us down. that is how we perceived it. if we just won the political offices and judiciaries, we would renew the country. that is no longer our operative. that's not true and we have to operate on the basis of reality, not just what we wish was happening. we have got to stay involved politically, if only to protect religious liberty but i think we have to return to localism and building our local churches and schools and local institutions as a sort of arc to get us across this dark age. >> tucker: that sounds a little bit like withdrawal from mainstream society. is it? >> yes and no.

we have to withdraw some want to rebuild who we are in our own sense of identity, in the bible. but we have to withdraw so we can continue to go out into the world and present the face of christ as he really is. if we do not withdraw and study and pray and build our practices, we cannot bring the world the gospel. we have to withdraw from the world so we can be for the world that christ wants. >> tucker: you can tell when someone is sincere and rooted in his faith. you know who the phonies are. the book, it is blowing up. on the christian portions of the internet anyway. up next, what is really happening on capitol hill? not a lot, it looks like. are congressmen ready to work with president trump? steve scalise joins us in a moment. ready to work

wrong if you look at that headline. what cbo said, if given the option -- our bill gives people freedom. if you do not have to get on obamacare. you can get off of obamacare.av what cbo is estimating even with taxpayer subsidies, they think 14 million people just next year will get off of obamacare if given the choice. you can still stay on it but if they want to get off, they have the freedom to do it. 14 million will. that is not lost coverage but cbo called that loss coverage. to me that means you had the freedom to say that i don't want to be on obamacare anymore. now you have better options because there is going to be a competitive marketplace where you can go buy whatever you want for your family at a lower cost and cbo most importantly accept the fact that when our plan is implemented, it will lower coste dramatically. >> tucker: so when the cbo says there will be a massive decreased number of people covered, they mean by obamacare,

not by any insurance policy at all? >> what we are doing is getting rid of obamacare and letting families make the choice of what they want to do for their health care. they get to pick their own plan which is the opposite of obamacare. obamacare said no matter what you think, if you like what you have, you can keep it only if this is the plan you can have. >> tucker: here is what i do not get. there is no mandate in this bill. you do not have to buy health insurance. but you keep in the requirements that health insurances need to cover people with pre-existing conditions. it also means health carece insurers cannot turn me down if i show up to buy a policy. why would i bother to buy insurance? >> what you would need to have is continuous coverage but the other thing is, there will be

real options for you. one of the things obamacare has done, it has led to monopolies in about a third of the marketplaces across the country. even if you are out buying insurance and obamacare, you literally only have one choice. that is why costs are up. all the mandates are so unworkable that companies to stop writing policies. a lot of these insurance companies, under your plan we will actually in and write policies for people that they want to buy. if you like what you have, can truly go and buy it for your family. >> tucker: what happens if you do not want to buy? it is expensive. it's your choice but the insurance companies are required to take me, they have to take me. congress is forcing them to. will they bebe sustainable? >> it is not as simple as gaming the system. people can literally get on the system for months and if they get sick they can jump right back in. that is not how it will work.

you will have to be in the system if you want to have a plan. ultimately you get to choose the plan. that's the most important thing. their tax credits for people that are low income working people and have the ability -- you get a tax break if you get your insurance from your employer. about 61% of the people get their health care from their employer.. what happens if your employer does not provide health care? what if you are a small business owner? we are giving the same tax break that employers get to families that cannot get it through their employer. they can go buy would they want for their family. pre-obamacare and health care was hsa. that lowered costs and gave people more options. under obamacare they literally obliterated the hsa market. families can actually work through hsa's and get theob ability to buy lower cost health care, what they want for their family, it's their choice. not a government bureaucrat. >> tucker: we get a ton of
