>> neil: these are the crowds assembling for an event donald trump is going to speak out tonight in louisville, kentucky, hours ahead of his appearing in louisville, kentucky. see you tomorrow. >> eric: i'm eric bolling with kimberly guilfoyle, juan williams. dana perino, and greg gutfeld, it's 5:00 indirect city, and this is "the five" ." -- it's 5:00 in new york city. big day on capitol hill, fireworks as fbi director james comey and nsa director mike rogers testified under oath for the first time on alleged russian meddling in the u.s. election, as well as president trump's wiretapping claims. at times, seemed like there were two hearings going on simultaneously. the g.o.p. trying to get the name of the leaker who gave classified information, like the

name of michael flynn, to "the new york times" and "washington post" ." both sides seemed to land body blows and it was compelling tv. i was glued to the screen. one of the revelations, fbi chief confirming to the house intelligence committee that his agency is investigating potential links between the trump campaign and the russian government. >> i have been authorized by the department of justice to confirm that the fbi, as part of our current intelligence mission, is investigating the russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. that includes investigating the nature of any links between the trump campaign on the russian government and weather was any coordination between the campaign and russia's efforts. as with any counterintelligence investigation, this will include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed.

>> eric: comey shot down the charge that president obama wiretapped trump tower. >> with respect to the tweets about wiretapping, i have no information that supports those tweets and we have looked carefully inside the fbi. the department of justice has asked me to share with you that the answer is same for the apartment of justice and its components. >> eric: the white house responded. >> he said there's no information to support the allegation that the president made against president obama. is the president prepared to withdraw the accusation and apologize? >> no. we started a hearing, it is still ongoing and as chairman nunes mentioned, this is one in a series of hearings that will be happening. i think there's a lot of areas that still need to be covered. there is a lot of information that still needs to be discussed. >> bret: 2 minutes prior to the show going live, john roberts sent this email ou

out. statement from paul manafort that says "i had no role or involvement in the cyber attack against the dnc or the release of information gained from the attack and i've never spoken with any russian government officials or anyone who claimed to have been involved in the attack, the suggestion that i worked in concert with anyone to release hacked emails or sought to undermine the interests of the united states is false." he goes on to say "despite the constant scrutiny and innuendo, there are no facts or evidence supporting the allegation. nor will there be. disappointed that anyone would give credence to the allegations." >> kimberly: this is pretty much in keeping with what we've been hearing out of the oval office, saying that the mainstream media and the dnc before the election was held was trying to discredit president trump, trying to continue to discredit him and suggesting that people who were advisors to him, you know, and

the people who worked on the campaign had some kind of collusion with russia to make sure that the dnc and the candidacy of hillary clinton was undermined at the expense and then of course putting forward donald trump as the candidate and ultimately the presidents. we have seen no evidence to support those claims despite the fact that they have this ongoing investigation. i think it's smart of paul manafort to release a statement to very much be on the offense and say here's what i'm doing. here's what they've accused me of and put out a clear statement of fact to try to quiet the storm down. >> eric: dana, like i said in the intro, seemed like there were two hearings going on at once. the left attacking, the allegations of wiretaps in the collusion that for the first time ever we heard james comey say yes, there is an ongoing investigation of the ties between the trump campaign, trump administration and russia.

>> dana: a lot going on today. i believe james comey, the fbi director, they didn't say the name paul manafort. that didn't come up until the white house press secretary's briefing today when he described former hangers on who didn't really have a lot of influence. i see paul manafort, he is responding to the fbi but i think also he's responding to the fact that the white house press secretary is the one who brought his name up. i think they could have diffuse the bomb a couple different ways today. meaning the bombshell. one, i think when you find out there's no wiretapping evidence one of the things you could say was, i am so glad no one was wiretapping me. now we can move on and focus on other things. instead, said that there is no evidence of the collusion between russia and the trump campaign, that should be put to bed. no evidence. but at the same time, they wiretapping claim, of which they say there is no evidence, the

vet should continue to be investigated. the other thing the white house could have said and i think they probably will going into tomorrow is that the fbi director also confirmed again there was no russian actual impact on the electoral outcome. the third thing i think they could have said was if the if the fbi says they are investigating, i encourage everyone to fully cooperate. we are moving on and focusing other things. >> eric: trey gowdy's questioning was phenomenal. he was trying to get an who leaked the information about michael flynn to "the washington post" and "new york times" ." and comey and rogers kept saying we can't tell you. how is it possible flynn was being investigated, yet there was no surveillance of trump tower? >> greg: i don't know. that's an excellent question and that's why they are having an investigation. you are seeing two sides.

one believes in talking about the collusion, the other one about the leaks. it's a mirror battle. it's a mirror battle and in my view, they cancel each other out. when i am watching this, to me, it was like watching a really dull ping-pong game. what i don't understand is, they were arguing that if there was a change in relations with russia, that's true. but you could say the exact opposite. if there is no change, there's proof. to hide the fact -- if you did a dirty deal, are you going to immediately change her behavior? if you can argue that a change in behavior or not a change in behavior is proof, then you really don't have an argument because it can go either way. remember, if you are colluding with a foreign government, would you actually brag about it? that's kind of genius. that's like walking into tsa and

bragging about having contraband. you don't do that you're so brilliant, trump is so brilliant, that he knew that while he was having russia will help him win and election, he was boasting about it. >> dana: one of the words the fbi director said was that you can be a part of an investigation. there might've been someone who was unwittingly helping the russians, so they don't even know it. the investigation is more about what russia was trying to do than what other people were doing. >> eric: let me bring juan in. acknowledging the fact that there is an investigation ongoing but not able to talk about age. but when asked, is there an investigation in any of the other campaigns, the clinton campaign or any of the 17 campaigns, saying i can't answer that question. why was able to answer the question about the trump campaign? >> juan: what's going on at this table, gregory, trying to

>> kimberly: we are back with more and fbi director james comey's testimony today. lawmakers question him about the disturbing leaks of classified information to the media in recent weeks. >> i think in the last six weeks, couple of months, there's been at least apparently a lot of conversation about classified matters that are ending up in the media. a lot of it is dead wrong, which is one of the challenges. we don't correct it but it does strike me there's been a lot of people talking released reporters think people are talking to them in ways that have struck me as unusually active. >> kimberly: this is one of the important highlights of what we have discovered today in terms of the news and the media. we will see who picks up on it in terms of the mainstream media. to me, this is significant, there's basically confirmation of leaks of information that was released, which is very disturbing, eating going forward. >> dana: leaks are not legal. if you have a clearance, you sign an oath, you swear you're

not going to do it and leaks can lead to serious things, like a special prosecutor, where they went after karl rove for years. he didn't even leak the name. i thought congressman gowdy almost went across the line for me today and talking about specific people and names of people who would've been on the list, this very smallest, probably 35 people, that would have been able to unmask michael flynn's name. now you have a situation where your people who are public servants, political appointees possibly but there are others who don't have it. on the defensive and they have to say i didn't do it. then you are dragging more and more people into it what it seems to me that the fbi was indicating that they do know where the leak came from and maybe as part of the investigation it eventually comes out. it's not a crime to report a leak. they've got to figure out how to stop the leak but if it comes to you, it's not a crime to report it. >> kimberly: trey gowdy has an obligation to ask the questions

and have the transparency but at the same time with an eye toward national security and not revealing information that should remain classified or confidential. >> dana: not an easy hearing to have. >> kimberly: very difficult to thread the needle. eric, what did you make of the revelation? >> eric: i found that most compelling. trey gowdy got to somewhere around 20 people who had the clearance, as dana calls it, unmasked. naming the person was part of the investigation. doesn't have to be a person. it can be an entity. the point is it's not illegal to talk about a leak. it's illegal to, in fact, leak. the law has been broken. you can listen to testimony and realized one of the people who had clearance, access to it to unmask the fisa court warrant and the information has broken the law. gowdy was smart to point out

that's punishable by up to ten years in prison. it's a serious felony violation. he named a couple people. his point was let's narrow it down. get down to the people. after all, this person gave the name of a classified ongoing investigation of "the washington post" and "the new york times," highly illegal. the point being, it is not general flynn next time. one of its kimberly guilfoyle or juan or eric or greg. you don't want to be that person. >> kimberly: this is something that's criminal. they have to get to the bottom of it. today this was disturbing. juan, you would agree. >> juan: to me, i think, from my perspective, you want to encourage leaks for reporters. the thing that is troubling here, to come to eric's point, i think you feel that because michael flynn's name was revealed, that was somehow damaging.

>> eric: it was illegal too. >> juan: no argument about the law but i think leaks are a reality, not only in washington but in the mayor's office, the statehouse. to my mind, the difference is the volume of leaks we heard discussed at the meeting, and the reason for that, let me suggest that mike flynn was the national security advisor. he was being, talking to the russian ambassador, and lying about it and then you have two of the people that were named today, sally yates, the acting attorney general, and loretta lynch, the attorney general. they are identified. you have that national security advisor, president of the united states, not only dealing with the russians. >> eric: you are speculating. >> juan: that's no speculation. >> greg: i love the fact that we believe leaking is a big

deal. i felt that way about snowden and bradley manning, whose leaks were worse than this. leaked documents without even reading them. they didn't even know what was in it. i am all for punishing leakers. we have to remember we are looking at mirror outrage. as we sit here and say this is a big deal and compelling, we are dismissing the other side, the russian investigation. they are doing the same thing to us. >> eric: i agree with you. i think snowden is a whistleblower. the nsa was breaking the law. unconstitutional what they were doing. i also agree, being consistent, michael flynn was breaking the law. he should be punished accordingly. but my point is that has not been judged yet. this is an ongoing investigation. >> juan: mike flynn has said he had to register for taking money from the turkish government. you can't be the national security advisor and not reveal that you took money from a
