the need for a repeal and replace obamacare although he did acknowledge they have plenty of work to do and i think i was born out for the entire world to see him friday. eric: that's for sure and meanwhile you mention tax reform. that hits the top of the agenda on the presidents list? >> well, tax reform and regulatory reform but he'll talk about jobs. the president will get in from the camera and talk about business leaders adding jobs. the other major item the white house will try to shift the focus on is what happens with the confirmation of supreme court justice judge neil gorsuch he comes from the tenth circuit and he's widely respected and you would think this would be a no-brainer but there are democrats who are threatening now to filibuster his confirmation and that's leaving some including the president to speculate whether or not it's time to go for the so-called nuclear option. in fact here's what he had to say about that back in february.

and others who are asking congress to create an independent committee to take over this investigation. arthel: garrett tenney thanks so much. eric: despite yesterday's setback on health care the continuing investigations and possible russian influence in the campaign supporters of president trump took to the streets today and held rallies across the country. in california two rhode island demonstrators gathered for what they called make america great again rallies read some of them met with resistance from anti-administration protesters. a number of arrests have been made in california. will carr joins us with the latest from los angeles. first of all where did those alleged arrest breakout? >> well it was down and our south of los angeles in the huntington beach eric and that's where tempers were flaring when more than a thousand trump supporter's were rallying. a number of protesters showed up in many had their faces covered in were doing anything they could to antagonize the crowd. pushing led to punches being

reaction to nunes canceling the public hearing and are you getting more information on the underlying reason why congressman nunes cancel that? >> that announcement is the last step and a week full of all kinds of events that led to accusations going back and forth between republicans and democrats. nunes said he canceled the open hearing scheduled for tuesday to make time for the fbi director and the nsa director to come back and brief the committee behind closed doors but since new information came up on monday when they were in front of the committee openly public way that they can only ask behind closed doors. democrats are saying this is an excuse and they're keeping republicans too afraid to have another open hearing because it did not go as well for republicans as they were planning. democrats did take the opportunity to grow calm he and rogers on a lot of things and it seems to have scored some points in terms of the lease suggesting all of these connections that

not heard from them. it's not just manafort but three former campaign officials who have come forward and said they are willing to be interviewed by the committee. so far those interviews whenever they are scheduled for, we still don't know that will only happen behind closed doors of the likelihood we hear from them publicly backed may happen but right now that's not agree to our offered. it's certainly going to be a chance for all the members to hear from some people that were at the campaign at the time in which it appears that the fbi began its investigation to the potential links between the presence team and russian officials. it's an important series of interviews but it's not clear what they will offer reveal. seems these three people came forward because again on monday during opening hearings nunes issued a public call for anyone else who has information they feel is preventing the committee from coming forward. that led to the source that he

was alerted to on tuesday night. he spoke about it publicly and he briefed the president and i think you heard a little of that clip played and now these letters. this is all happening very quickly. it's not clear we will be hearing any more chapters of his public way. we may as he left the door open for an opener hearing but we don't have anything like that schedule going forward and democrats, you can hear it that they are not happy. they are accusing republicans of doing this in secret and they are basically, some of them are even accusing the intelligence committee chairman of coordinating with the white house. you have a really serious investigation happening and political potshots flying back and forth including the investigation. arthel: you know you talk about how unclear everything is and how a lot of the information is just quite frankly unknown. is this dust cloud over the

suspected russian interference in the election going to leave a film on this president or if and when the dust settles might the president or any of his closest aides be caught dirty handed? >> that's the greatest unknown of all. i think that's what democrats are hoping to connect the dots that they haven't found the smoking gun that actually does tie the president himself and there have been various democrats who said there's evidence of collusion but we have not connected those dots at all. it's certainly something that the president is not like happening and would rather have it go away and certainly it's affecting how people are viewing his tenure in various places and various groups but you also have to ask the question that even if there is something that is moret we have seen which people are going to care. it's going to be the president's

protections in place. eric: do we have that now? can they pluck out our secrets? >> we have historically been a pretty good job but i don't think it's fully up to speed. historically we have cbs mechanisms that review, or proves the security of acquisitions of the german steel mill wanted to acquire u.s. still it have to go through a formal review process to see if there are security implications. this is different. this is investments in tecnam plays where people are trying to acquire specialized technology and i think we have a full system in place to guard against that. eric: some are concerned about the russian uranium so are you confident that we can address this at some point? >> i think so. what we have got to do is broaden the scope and allows investment and not just acquisition and make sure the fbi is working closely with the

tech community. people are on guard if you're getting inquiries and oversees you need to get reporting mechanism to make sure you were not making mistakes. eric: what about north korea? they have protected north korea at the security council of these years. what would happen if i turned on the oil spigot? >> there are two or three scenarios they're one of which is positive that north korea moves towards the rule of the regime and the less positive scenarios the economic collapse and china doesn't want that to the worst-case scenario is some kind of conflict breaks out and nobody wants that so there is risk involved in a complete shutdown. what we in the united states one from china is more of a harder push and tougher sanctions tougher economic might to help north korea move the right way.

eric: the secretary of state was just there. you think the chinese will finally get that message? >> interestingly i think they're getting the message not because we are directly requesting it that south korea is putting in the impact missile system in place. they are concerned about what we might do so they know unless we play some kind of -- there's a chance that south korea or even japan escalates themselves. eric: finally your book is about your dad, teenager from ohio in the battle of the bulge. what lessons are there from our fathers to the new generation when you consider the threats that we face as americans today? >> you know that was an era of enormous sacrifice. your dad and my dad and several million americans under arms. i think what i take away from that book is we are concerned about what churchill did and what truman and isenhour did but let's not forget there were

having a hard time hearing god's? >> i think so absolutely because we are not listening. you go on the subway or down the street and you have people looking for something else. there's a lot of noise here that people are sort of listening to rather than the word god but one of the things i found that i talk about in the book is i go with the camera and microphone and ask people lightheartedly how many commands in -- commandments have you broken today plex they were talking about adultery and i almost killed someone and i thought this is a very strange thing. here we have the camera and they are treating it as a confessional. there is something about this connection with the word of god that i think people are hungry for but they are not listening. arthel: of course the book is steeped in faith and spirituality. their message for people who don't consider themselves religious? >> i think absolutely because one of the things that i found

is and this is where i am trying to be honest in the book whether or not you believe in god has no bearing on whether there is a god. that was the basis of the idea. okay so if this is an objective truth i should be able to find evidence of it not just spiritually but physically and this is where the lighthouse came into play but i looked at the structure of the 10 commandments and found it was very much like the structure of the white house. the beacon is like the first commandment. you can't break commandments to through one without breaking one. here you have almost a closed system and then it's perhaps a template not us just a spiritual law but perhaps a template for all law. arthel: you speak of it as a template. for those who don't know jesus and might even get acquainted with jesus or some higher being you know especially in this foggy world we are living in might that book be the catalyst

to jumpstart to people to get there? >> i think there a lot of entrées into understanding christianity and understanding jesus. my agent is jewish so he had to read -- to read the manuscript over several times until he understood the argument. that's one of the issues is that you can understand the argument. you can know a lot about god and one theologian said there is a god but that doesn't mean he worships him and that is the difference. arthel: in closing the lighthouse, i think you have a personal story behind the lighthouse that you've shared with us briefly. >> this process started a decade ago but the lighthouse came into it later. i was looking for a personal connection i realized at one point god was not only lighting my path and guiding me but he was there with me and all of my troubles and it reminded me of the first i will never leave you
