short weeks ago before he was candidate trump he was being watched. this could have gone back months and months. it's confusing when you look at the back and forth. the "new york times" is reporting on thursday. it was white house officials who gave the information to chairman nunes. our own adam housley has blockbuster reporting. it has not been picked up by the mainstream media they are conveniently picking up what they want to at the failing "new york times." adam housley says in reporting for the fox news channel yesterday whoever it was who unmasked the sources, meaning revealed the names. very high up and senior in the intelligence world. clayton: not in the fbi. pete: high up, well known, senior and not in the fbi. abby: unmasking of the names and faces. normally when they are doing the surveillance they would show the side of the russian team but not here in

america. clayton: so why? why? it all points to politics. that's where the scandal is this morning. it's all about politics. it's the unmasking for political reasons. that members of the obama administration -- actually, this shows that even a year and a half earlier, before he was really even a viable candidate or he started to claw his way up during the primary that the obama administration was concerned about donald trump, the candidate, at the time and his team. charles hurt last night talking about this says this could be a level of constitutional crisis. and this is not hyperbole. listen to charles hurt. >> if indeed, and there is evidence to suggest that it has happened, being see mike flynn, if in fact that is what happened, all of this business about a russian connection, murky connections that have been by the way exhaustively researched and investigated for months now, we now know, none of that pails in comparison to the idea that you have the most powerful espionage assets of the united states government

being used by an administration to spy on a political opponent before, during, and after that political opponent wins the presidency. that is -- that is like on the level of constitutional crisis. abby: representative nunes. he is the one running the house intelligence committee on this. he is wanting to get the facts right. he is doing the investigation. he is wanting the american people and the administration and the intelligence community to all understand what is going on. clayton: so the narrative. abby: the narrative has not been reported right though. clayton: what door was he going through. who did he see at the white house. it turns out he was there for specific reason and going there to use a room called a scif. strategically placed throughout washington in different offices where it's completely closed off room. pete: highly secure. clayton: can't bring cell phones in there information that's in that room cannot leave that room where he was there to reveal and understand what was

happening. pete: in that room because the information should never leave the room. that's the problem because it's all being leaked. we heard evelyn far cass it's been reported on this channel on msnbc a month ago, admitting that it was something that was well understood, quick, get the knowledge about trump while you can during the transition and disseminate it as far and wide as you can so people will leak it admission there was political believe that you had to get to the truth on trump and expose it immediately. abby: reporting has been so bad that representative nunes had to come out and hit on the "new york times" for getting it so factually wrong. here is what he said. >> we are not going to get into sources and methods. if not, who is ever going to come to our committee. i can tell that you those reports are mostly wrong. there are, i mean, this is something that i have known about for a very long time from people who were not affiliated at all with the white house or anybody there. the challenge was was finding a place to be able to view information, to be

able to get my hands on this information. so, i think what's in those stories is there is a lot of innuendo. pete: again, the mainstream media is slamming him, going after him, impugning him saying he is not credible and capable of doing the investigation. what if he is the guy with the most information. isn't that the one supposed to be doing the investigation. abby: what about adam schiff who is the ranking member in the house who came out and made a number of rude statements about trump before he became president? no one seems to have an issue that he is a part of this whole thing. fingers pointed at nunes. pete: fingers pointed at nunes because he was on the trump transition team. >> no one is more undermining the legitimacy of the presidency than dump himself. is he not stepping up to the job. >> make some sense to him making outlandish accusations. he is undermining his own prospects for success as a

story. a fox news alert. the reason behind president trump's election electronics ban on many incoming u.s. flights. pete: isis may have developed laptop bombs that airport security won't catch. clayton: doug mckelway is live in washington, d.c. >> you might remember the tropical depression's announcement last month march 21st banning the carry on laptops, tablet. ipod games people flying on foreign airlines to the u.s. from 10 different airports located in 8 majority muslim countries they included amman, jordan, kuwait city kuwait. istanbul turkey, riyadh and saudi arabia. morocco. dubai and united arab emirates. at the time the department of homeland security said the ban was based upon the current threat picture. now we have a better picture. the white house and u.s. intelligence agencies now believe isis is capable of building a laptop bomb that can bring down an airliner

welcome to both of you this morning. welcome to the show. >> thank you. clayton: michael, why is the former president being so quiet on all of this. >> i think he doesn't want to build the story. he is hoping it will go away. and if he weighs in, it will just pump it up more. i think it's not going to go await a minute david, you heard the reporting yesterday from our own adam housley this could go very high in the former obama administration. what do you say to that? >> you know, if there was leaking about trump officials who were engaging in talks with russian officials, and that leaking was classified and should not have been leaked, then we should investigate that. but we need to also draw distinction between unmasks and leaking. unmasking, when an american official is talking to a russian agent, as flynn was, he was talking to the russian ambassador about sensitive issues, like u.s. sanctions against russia, that unmasking is supposed to happen. in fact, our intelligence officials need to understand those conversations. that's what happened here.

we now know that flynn engaged in improper conversations. he has admitted to that in fact, he had to resign as the national security advisor because of that. now, that's something that the american people should be really concerned about. we need to be concerned about russian interference in our election. that goes to the sanctity of our democracy. clayton: okay, michael. >> rule of law let this investigation go forward. clayton: all right, what about led that unmasking. do you take david's argument? >> no. i dealt with this material when i was a senior director in the national security council in the bush administration. and we took unmasking very seriously. there's a process. have you to justify to the nsa why you want to unmask it and then once you know that information, it should be very tightly held. it's something that you don't, most of 78 time you don't have to find out who the individual is in order to understand the significance of the report.

so i totally reject that argument. clayton: david? >> i can't believe he doesn't think that significant that our national security advisor in waiting was talking to russia about u.s. sanctions against russia and telling russia that don't worry about those sanctions, as soon as we get in office we are going to remove those sanctions. russia does not have the u.s. interests in its heart. it is going against u.s. interests. it is -- to have incursion in eastern ukraine invaded the sorchts of ukraine. those are the things that u.s. and allies in europe are very worried about. the national security advisor in waiting was talking to russia about that. those are the types of sensitive conversations that are exactly the type of conversations that need to be unmasked. we now know that flynn had to step down because of it. and there may have been criminal wrongdoing and that's why he is being investigated and that's why we saw the news this week that he is asking for immunity. clayton: all right, david. what about that point?

podium whether it's a democrat or republican is not answering the first three or four questions. we might play the clip where reporters are just droning on and on about the same fact, but we are trying to get facts. in this case i do think it's significant about the white house grounds and who let devin nunes in. because remember where that part of the story went. it was the chairman of the house intelligence committee says i have a whistleblower somewhere in the intelligence community who says maybe the president of the united states was right about surveillance by the obama administration on the trump team and then we find out well, he was on the white house grounds and at least two white house officials were involved talking to him. again, sticking to the facts, there was some confusion with that reporting saying oh, so his sources were the white house aids. pete: exactly. >> when, in fact, i heard what you were reporting earlier which is accurate, which is that these white house aids may have facilitated getting the chairman of the intel committee to that scif, the secure room so he could see the intelligence.
