heather: welcome back, secretary of state rex tillerson heading to moscow on wednesday for the trump's administration first official meeting with the kremlin since the president dropped 60 bombs on syria. so what can we expect? clayton: former u.s. army intelligence officer to weigh in on that. good to see you, andrew. >> great to be here. clayton: we had sebastian gorka, one of the things i asked him about the meeting, we are not going to telegraph our move to russia on this any longer like the obama administration and yet somebody in the administration who wants us to know that they're getting tough with russia.

what do you make of what this meeting could unfold? >> i expect the secretary of state to say a couple of things to point, one, of course, stop supporting syrian president bashar al-assad. i think secondly, he's going to make it clear that our fight is not with the russians, it's with the syrian government and we don't really have a problem with the russian president in syria, we don't have a problem with the member of this regime defeating bashar al-assad as president. we see bashar al-assad at this point after chemical weapon's attack last week as beyond the pail. heather: what we do see apparently is russia's inability to withhold their end of the bargain back in 2013 which said that they would oversee the destruction of these chemical weapon that is syria has. here is what the secretary of state had to say about that. >> responsible for these attacks, it was bashar al-assad and i think the russians need to think more carefully about the commitment they made under the chemical weapon's agreements to be the garantor that the weapons

would be seized and destroyed. heather: he didn't draw any conclusions in terms of complicity at all but clearly the russians had been incompetent or simply outmaneuvered by the syrians. what do you think will develop on this front? >> well, i mean, that agreement in 2013 was an an absolute farce . so that agreement for all intents and purposes is totally scrapped and, in fact, of course, that's why the u.s. had to take unilateral action last week. clayton: do you think we will see more attacks. it seems that bashar al-assad was maybe testing us from flying from the very same air bases to carry out more attacks? >> yeah that was clearly a

gesture meant to rub in our face that our attacks hadn't done much damage. no, what you are more likely to see increased u.s. assistance to syrian rebels in the region beginning with kurds and including groups which the saudi arabians backed who we don't yet which might be instrumental and forcing some kind of political transition that even the russians would be amenable to. heather: jon if you heard griff jenkins report this morning. joint statement between iran, russia and syria, what are the implications in terms of iran and their involvement in this? >> right, i thought there were two things about that statement yesterday. one is that this group pledged -- that any future violations of the red line, the u.s. attack on syria would be punished, meaning they are not going to do anything this time. secondly, the fact that the
