where we are, below the dmz of south korea is talking tough. part of a foreign nation asian tour to deal with the belligerency they say coming from north korea. he says he wants united states to achieve security through peaceful means, negotiations, sanctions, getting china involved. he said all options remain on the table for president trump. >> north korea would do well not to test his resolve. or the strengths of the armed forces of the united states in this region. >> here at north korea, officials talking about the massive military parade we watched also over the weekend.er was in charge, and they are still refusing to mention that there was a missile launch over the weekend and in fact that it had failed. they're now saying some 60 missiles were rolled out in that display, ten types of missiles including possibly some prototypes of a continental ballistic missile. meanwhile, one last chance to

look around pyongyang, and it is becoming more bustling, more modern. analysts tell us that this is a part of the kim jong-un strategy to stay in control to survive in, to get some economic gainsus to the public while the same time keeping political repression in check. internal crackdowns as well and the nukes and the missiles. officials here have been reacting to the increasingly tough talk coming from the trump administration with increasing agitation. right now, they don't seem to be ready to back down. pyongyang north korea, greg palkot, fox news. >> sean: joining us now with more on how the united states military is responding to the north korean threat, she got the pentagon tonight. >> the pentagon announced that defense secretary mattis has ordered a nuclear posture review to begin today that will last for about eight months.

mattis leaves for a weeklong trip to the middle east that will include stops in saudi arabia, israel, egypt, and the horn of africa. fox news has learned from well-placed defense sources the type of medium-range missiless that north korea tried to test this weekend with a new kind of scud known as a k ends atsi scud known as a kn-17, a single stage liquid fuel missile. officials here are not commenting when asked if u.s. cyber command had any role in causing the lunch to fail. it's notable that 88% of the intermediate range lucid on missiles that north korea hadin tried to test since a year ago have blown up within seconds of launch. 5 out of 6 launches have failed. the most noteworthy addition to this year's parade ine pyongyang where these two long canisters that appeared for the first time and experts say are typically used for long-range missiles. it is important to remember that north korea has neverem successfully tested a missile capable of reaching the u.s. and a lot of what was on display could be mockups or fakes.bl in fact, we found a piece in tha

>> good evening to you. white house taking a definitely stricter and more strident posture toward north korea than the previous administration did. that's for a couple of reasons. first of all, president trump is a different kind of president then president obama when it comes to responding to threats it receives. as we saw in the bombing of syria a couple weeks ago. also we believe the threat from north korea is different than it has been in the past. your remember 1994, the clinton administration cut a deal withr north korean leader, which they later reneged on. the six party talks resulted in a deal that destroyed part of the reactor in pyongyang, which north korea cheated on but they have that back then the korean leaders were simply playing for different deals where they would threatens that something and then get something in return but they believe that kim jong-un is playing a decidedly different type of game here and it really wants to develop nuclear weapons i can go on the top of the missile and if it gets to a hydrogen bomb, which u.s. officials believe is at school, that is going to change the strategic nuclear balance around the world. president trump this morning in

an interview with our ainsley earhardt not tipping them off and what he might do in response the north korean provocations. all he could say is that successful administrations in the past have tried to deal with and never could.d. here's what he said. >> i hope there's going to be peace. they've been talking with a gentleman for a long time, you read clinton's book, he said we made such a great peace deal and it was a joke. g look at different things over the years with president obama,a everybody's been outplayed. >> president trump determined not to be outplayed but this north korean leader. vice president mike penceru mentioned by greg palkot at the top was a demilitarized zone between north and south korea today, was also in seoul where he said the days the obama era policy of strategic patience are over. part of the problem sean has been that successful administrations have never seen any viable military options to deal with north korea. i asked sean spicer today if this administration saw that calculation any differently listen to this exchange.

>> does this president believe that there are viable military options to deliver toin north korea? >> i understand that. i think taking anything on or off the table is in itself limiting your options to some degree. i'm not going to even discuss that. >> related to north korea saving what could be on the brink of thermonuclear war. the white house playing it down to much different level than that, saying that they prefer negotiations at the moment, putting pressure on north korea by leaning on xi jinping to try to use his influence on kim jong-un. and the white house believes that after that meeting, president trump and xi jinping and mar-a-lago, they are veryy much on the same page and seeing this as a threat that could destabilize the entire region if not the world and they believe a that china will bring across some diplomatic measured to work this problem out. >> sean: when you look at the vice president's comment in the

the era of strategic patience is over. general mcmaster's saying it's clear the presidents determined not to allow this kind of capability to threaten the united states.s. we know they have nuclear weapons. we know they don't have capability.. if you take those words literally, it sounds like they feel that they have to take out any capability they have. how do you interpret it? >> i think that's right because you can have a nuclear weapon delivered by a ship.uc he can do a variety of different things. doesn't have to be an icbm. doesn't have to fit on a missile. you put in a cargo container. i think this is a serious,ut serious problem. also a great danger to north koreans selling nuclear weaponss to terrorists. i think that we've been through a long stretch here where we had a big fight over this when i was speaker, and just could not get the clinton administration take it seriously and of course obama

took nothing seriously. so we had a lost period here of almost 30 years and gradually, steadily build up their0 capability to hurt seoul, korea, build up their capability to threaten their neighbors and i think that it's clear for military leaders that they really do believe that wet' are very close to crossing a point after which we could lose an american city. and if you're the president of the united states and you're being told by your militaryy leaders of this is so dangerous you could literally at some point lose a city, i think you have to take very serious steps to stop that from happening. >> sean: mr. speaker, look at the president's options here for a minute. we're really talking about the possibility that we are going to now engage in a military conflict with north korea, which were told kim jong-un as mentally unstable. if you look at the neighbors, the launches a nuclear weapon or conventional weapons for that matter, talking about the potential that millions could

die in south korea, millions could die in japan. and are we prepared to see that through? if we are not, we better note start.t. >> millions could die in china. and they're right on the border. i think that in the very near future, 1 of 3 things will happen. i think either he will back down and agree to some kind of suspension of his various programs, under enormous pressure from the chinese, or there will be a military coup and he will be replaced by a more rational leader. or we will begin to take military actions, which could start with things as simple as killing any missile that would be capable of carrying a nuclear weapon. it could be steps that are shora of starting an all-out war on s the question then is what does he do?

to what degree -- and we don't know the answer. to what degree does he want toha survive, to what degree does he think that he won't survive in his own society because they'll kill him. >> sean: he's killed and uncle, he's killed other distractors.s >> he killed his girlfriend and her entire band. this is a guy who is not nice. >> sean: he's unhinged. >> i think it makes s the immediate future very, very dangerous. >> sean: i think we've got to consider here is if america is going to take this action, we'd better be prepared for him if he's as mentally unstable as reports have said that he would go scorched earth. that's a possibility. now what do you make of for example the president did have great meetings with the president of china and he had planned and campaigned on calling them a currency

manipulator but it seems as a result of those bilateral talks, that the president was able to get concessions. number one, we see troops on the border now that china has sent to north korea. n number two, they sent coal back to north korea and imported american coal. three, we see that they're open to trade concessions to the united states. so it seems like there is a possibility of a emerging new alliance, america and china against north korea. how much time should we allow f weekst to play out? or months, not a matter of years. but they are taking activeur measures, and that's a good thing. they said to the north koreans, don't test another nuclear weapon. that's a good thing. >> sean: and they said that they might -- >> right. as you remember, they were in the middle of dinner at mar-a-lago when the president excused himself, went out, and held a press event to tell the world that we had just hit syria

with 59 missiles and then went t back in and rejoin the chinese president. they do have some notion that he is a very serious guy and with the bomb they use in afghanistan, there also in a sense sending a signal. beckley have one bomb a little bit bigger than that and they're sending a signal that you could see conventional weapons used to take out most of these nuclear sites.. without ourselves using a nuclear weapon. so i think there are a lot of signals being sent. i find it very worrisome. my father fought there in 1953gh when back later in the army and served in the 1960s. south korea has come so far, so dramatically stronger, better, more prosperous, freer. you'd hate to see anything happen that would disrupt that development. so i think that this is a very serious time. >> sean: you're the historian. last century alone, look at

ballistic missiles and other all in the show for spread on saturday, kim jong-un and failed to conduct a missile test and today we saw vice president mike pence while at the korean demilitarized zone take a hard stance with north korea over new signs of dangerous aggression. watch this. >> presidents made clear, our administration has made clear we stand with the people of south korea. and all options are on the table to achieve the objectives and ensure the security of the people. this country and the stability of this region. >> sean: if we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it so how do we get to this t point? we go back to 1994, bill clinton was the president. is it administration, they struck a deal with kim jong-un's father, kim jong il. where according to them, they refused to give north korea over $4 billion in energy eight over a decade in exchange for north

korea, freezing andth eventually ending the nuclear weapons program. that was part of the deal. north korea allowing inspectors into a nuclear sites. but this is important. but also be allowed to keep their nuclear fuel rods, which could be used to make weapons for an unspecified number ofhe years. even "the new york times" was suspicious of that part of the deal writing at the time "this provision means that the potential that north korea could break its agreements and quickly produce nuclear weapons will not disappear until the end of theed decade." these fears didn't stop bill clinton from praising the agreement. you may remember that praise. watch this. >> this is a good deal for the united states. north korea will freeze and then dismantle its nuclear program. south korea and our other allies will be better protected. the entire world will be safer as we slow this threat of nuclear weapons. >> sean: he was wrong. the president was wrong, president obama about syria

getting rid of chemical weapons. what if obama was wrong about a ran also? didn't take very long in thiss case for north korea to move away from the agreement and show no signs of aggression in 1998, pyongyang they fired a long-range missile over japan into the pacific ocean and by 2006, all the rogue regime had conducted their first new pair test. under barack obama, we saw an explosion and dangers threatening activity from north korea. look at the graphics were putting up at the side of the screen. they show various nuclear and missile tests that were conducted by the north koreans including a hydrogen bomb test but that was largely ignored by the obama administration for a long years. why? because of appeasement policies. if this deal sounds familiar and similar, for the disastrous one struck with iran, president gave the rogue regime in tehran $150 billion in exchange for their promise not to build nuclear weapons. tehran agreed to let inspectors visit nuclear facilities, but there still allowed to spend their centrifuges and conduct missile tests. that's why it's easy to see where the iran deal is going.

all you do look at where we are with north korea. don't forget when it cameei to syria, they all said syria had gotten rid of their chemical weaponsor because the president through a red line in the sand. it never happened. they were all dead wrong. now president trump has to do with this mess because after eight years of the obama administration, north korea, they think they can do anything they want without any sort of k heresponse. the good news is president trump has already shown that thosese days are over. the president now has to take a tough stance and is also turniny to north korea's key ally, china to help resolve the situation. china has already agreed to stop by north korea's coal, which estimates say will cost pyongyang about a billion dollars a year.on the president's detractors are saying he's flip-flopping by not labeling beijing a currency manipulator, but guess what?

president trump, he likes the art of the deal. now china is helping with north korea. certainly beats the alternative by the way, and that is north korea developing long-range nuclear weapons with of coursend icbm capabilities. joining us now, continuum or speaker of the house, former fox contributor newt gingrich. when you look at history and think of susan rice, john kerry and president obama, that red line in the sand, they got rid of chemical weapons, you add to that equation the idiotic deal with tehran home, you wonder when are we going to learn the lesson? thoughts? >> they're never going to learn the lesson because their left-wingers who live in a t fantasy land where nothing is ever real. in 20 years in korea it doesn't matter. all the years we've had experience with the ran, doesn't matter. the total fiasco of syria it doesn't matter. the failure of libya where they got rid of qaddafi and replaced him with chaos doesn't matter.

korean border, the state run agency threatening north korea and not to set off another nuclear test, so i think the president isse engaging diplomatically with the chinese. the ball is in their court to turn this program up. this president knows that diplomacy, our carrots have to be backed up with sticks like they haven't been the last eight years. but there is in between. there's covert action, there's offensive cyber, affective missile defense that we can do but if none of that works and i have no doubt the president's going to walk through those options, if none of that works, we will have to take military action. we cannot have -- we cannot have a nuclear capable north korea that no one can hit the u.s. but can hit soul. >> sean: what you can say is the only way to do that is to take out their nuclear sites now. for south korea, for japan, for lychina. last words, general tatum.
