anyway, former h.w. bush has been released from the hospital. he was released from the hospital for bronchitis. thanks for watching. >> president trump speaking minutes ago at the nra convention. talking about his views on guns and which democrat he could face in 2020. he talked about north korea, saying we could have a major conflict with that nuclear nation. from one leader to another, the president noted the young dictator took over a difficult job. president trump acknowledged being the leader of the free world is harder than he expected and revealing the personal side of life in the white house. it's coming up in this hour. i'm jon scott in for shepard
12:01 pm
smith. president trump getting ready to mark 100 days in office. he just spoke at the nra convention in atlanta. the president telling the crowd, their candidate is now in charge. >> the eight-year assault on your second amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end. [applause] you have a true friend and champion in the white house >> jon: the president the first sitting president to speak at an nra convention since ronald reagan in 1983. the government numbers show the nra spent $30 million either for president trump or against hillary clinton. analysts say all the support helped the president in key battleground states. jonathan serrie is live at the nra convention in atlanta. jonathan, what else did the
12:02 pm
president have to say? >> hi, jon. the president doesn't touch on a lot of policy goals but made sweeping promises that wendt over very well with this nra crowd. bold promises to protect the second amendment. listen. >> as your president, i will never ever infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. never ever. >> president trump also reaffirmed his determination to build a border wall along the u.s. mexico border and he offered somewhat of a prediction on his own re-election bid in 2020. listen to that. >> you'll have plenty of those democrats coming over and you'll say no thank you, no, ma'am. may be pocahontas. remember that.
12:03 pm
and she's not big for the nra. that i can tell you. >> jon, pocahontas was the nickname for elizabeth warren. >> there is that special election coming up in the second district. the president is pushing for the republican candidate there. >> he is indeed after speaking here. he immediately went to a fund raiser that he's hosting for karen handel, the republican candidate that faces a run-off against john ossoff on june 20th. the sixth district they're running for, although it's heavily republican, it's affluent and educated. trump won it by 2%. he's been actively involved in
12:04 pm
this race and karen handel welcomes the support. >> jonathan serrie, live in atlanta. thanks, jonathan. >> jon: president trump warns a major conflict with north korea is possible. that's what he told the reuters news agency. the president said he would love to solve things diplomatically but it's very difficult. >> there's a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with north korea. absolutely. >> jon: during that interview, president trump talked about kim jong-un. he said -- >> jon: the president also hadded, i'm not giving him credit, i'm saying it's a very hard thing to do. as to whether or not he's rationale, i have no opinion on it. i hope he is".
12:05 pm
john roberts live at the white house. john? >> good afternoon, jon. the president issuing a dire warning on how badly this could go with north korea. at the same time, he's putting more pressure on the north korean regime so they give up their nuclear program. nobody has more influence than china. that's why the president is reaching out to chaina saying yu have to do something about this guy. the assertion has been that china is only willing to do so much to reign in north korea. tillerson says they're seeing alator -- a greater level of cooperation china than ever before. listen in. >> they asked the regime not to
12:06 pm
conduct no further nuclear tests. they said if they did conduct further nuclear tests, china would be taking sanctions actions on their own. >> tillerson says the united states is asking china to do a lot but china has come to the realization that north korea is not just a threat to u.s. and its allies but to china itself. >> the president has been talking a lot about the dictator. what has he said? >> he saw that as a 27-year-old, your father died and hands you regime to take on. the president saying this is a young leader that has a lot to learn. but alluding there to the unpredictability of kim jong-un. when you're that age and given this level of responsibility, things can go wrong and go wrong quickly. the secretary of state yesterday in the interview with bret baier giving a signal to kim jong-un to say whoa, take a deep breath here. don't act irrationally.
12:07 pm
the united states is not out to knock you off. listen to what the secretary of state says. >> we have been very clear. we do not seek regime change. we're not seeking a collapse of the regime. we're not seeking to find some excuse for accelerated reunification of the peninsula. what we're seeking is the same thing that china says they seek. a full denuclearization of the korean peninsula. >> tillerson he doesn't believe kim jong-un is crazy or insane. he's shown he has the capability to act rationally in certain situations. the united states is hoping they can appea rationale side of kim jong-un and ratchet tensions down before they get out of control. jon? >> we're also getting word of changes to the nsa's warrantless wiretap program, john. >> yeah, the nsa has stopped collection of what they have talked about targets data.
12:08 pm
this is from somebody in the united states to somebody directly over saeaseas. say if i were to given a target or associate with the target, that would be scooped up as well. the nsa says they're going to start that part of the data collection. the nsa issued a statement a short time ago to say that it will no longer include any internet communications that are solely about a foreign intelligence target. instead, the surveillance will be limited only to those communications that are directly to or from an intelligence target. i'm told by national security sources that this whole program was becoming unwieldy for the nsa. it was becoming more trouble than it was worth. this was taken from a practical standpoint because it was just becoming a bother for the nsa, so they decided to stop it. john? >> john roberts, thank you. our own martha maccallum sat
12:09 pm
down with president trump before he hits the 100 day mark. he weighed in from north korea to the healthcare fight. >> are you disappointed with how the republicans have handled the issues? health care went down. there was a suggestion it would happen today but it's not going to happen. >> i'm disappointed that it doesn't go quicker. i like them a lot. many of them, like the freedom caucus came, they say we love our president, we're doing this for our president. you look at that and look at the moderates, the same thing. paul ryan is trying very, very hard. i think everybody is trying very hard. it's a very tough system. >> jon: you can catch the full interview on the first 100 days with martha maccallum less than four hours from now, 7:00 p.m. eastern time. more from president trump including what he misses most since he took the job. i'm talking about it with chris

>> jon: president trump said he thought running the country would be easier. the presidents will told reuters he misses his old life before he became the most powerful planet on the person. listen. >> i love my previous life. i loved it. i had so many things going. i actually -- this is more work than in my previous life. i thought it would be easier.
12:13 pm
i thought it was more of a -- i'm a details-oriented person. i do miss my old life. i like to work. that's not a problem. but this is more work. >> jon: president trump said he used to go out to restaurants and that he enjoyed driving. he says i can't drive anymore. during that interview, reuters said the president interrupted himself when he was talking about china and started handing out copies of his 2016 electoral college map. he said they had the latest figures showing parts of the country that he won over hillary clinton. let's bring in "fox news sunday" chris wallace. he does have a fascination with the election and almost can't believe he won. >> it is interesting. he brought it up again when he talked to the nra this afternoon. one, i think he may still be surprised by it. you know, i think there's a certain sensitivity there that
12:14 pm
this continuing talk, whether it's about russia or stolen votes or whatever, as to whether or not he's the legitimate president. he seems to be the only person that still has any doubts about that, except for the real haters. so i don't know why he keeps bringing it up. i don't know. i wouldn't mind one of those maps. it would be fun to see. >> jon: the wallace electoral victory. he seemed whiskful about his old life. i'll play you part of that. >> and while i had little privacy in my old life because i've been famous a long time, i really -- this is much less privacy than i've ever seen before. this is something -- something that is amazing. at the same time, you're really into your own little cocoon. you have massive protection that you can't go anywhere.
12:15 pm
>> jon: it is interest ing a guy goes from private life to being inside the protection of the secret service. he does seem to miss the old lifestyle. >> let's make it clear, donald trump has the most public private life imaginable. he was one of the most famous people in america. he had private security long before the secret service. but i have to tell you, john, every president i've talked to or read about hat the same feeling. i remember covering ronald reagan in the 80s. at one point, he wanted to go out to the local stationary shop because he wanted a birthday card for nancy. the secret service said no, you can't do that. barack obama used to say that he longed for the days when he used to just go out, walk around the neighborhood, even as a senator and go to a book store and just browse a book store.
12:16 pm
so it's a very special bubble, but it is a bubble. or a cocoon or whatever you want to call it. again, the fact that he says, he loves to drive and he's not able to drive himself anymore. there's a lot of things about it that seem glamorous. you're in the white house and air force one and all that. the simple things in life and the ability to walk down the street, which even as donald trump could do, now president trump can't. >> perhaps that will improve when his wife, melania and their son, baron are able to join them full time in new york city while baron completes his school years. he did touch on one of the big crises of the day, which is isis and what to do about it. here's the president on isis. >> we can't let them come over here. there is an end and it has to be
12:17 pm
humiliation. we're really ebb rat -- eradicating some very bad people. >> it was the thorniest issue when he got into office. we just got another word action an isis leader in the arabian peninsula today. clearly the president wants to take out isis and he's making progress in that regard. it's a question of whether ultimately it will be successful. >> and also whether he's willing to make enough of a commitment. remember, he promised during the campaign and as soon as he came in, he asked i think 30 days he gave the pentagon to come up with a plan. he's had the plan at his desk for some time. when you talk to top generals, they say to do it, you'll need a commitment of more troops on the ground in syria, in iraq. if you really want to do it. you can't do it by the air or
12:18 pm
advising or can't do it by using malitias in syria. you have to commit more u.s. forces. it's a major political and national security decision. so far he's not made the decision to go all in. not necessarily saying that is the right thing to do. there's a lot of reasons why you don't want to get more involved in syria and iraq and all of the political quagmires in both of those. the plan he has taken up till this point is not a plan for victory against isis. >> jon: chris wallace, "fox news sunday." thanks for joining us today. >> you bet. >> jon: coming up on "fox news sunday," chris talks with the senate minority leader, new york democrat chuck schumer. that's this sunday on your local fox station. check the tv listings for the time in your area. catastrophic consequences.

>> jon: former president george h.w. bush back at home today after spending two weeks in a houston hospital. here's a picture last week with his son, former. george w. bush. he was treated for a mild case of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. he spent 16 days in the hospital earlier this year with pneumonia. he and the former first lady are pleased to be home spending time with family and friends. secretary of state rex tillerson says if the world doesn't do something soon about north korea, there could be catastrophic consequences.
12:23 pm
tillerson spoke at the united nations and called for new economic policies tag country. >> failing to act now may bring about catastrophic consequences. we said this before and it bears repeating. the policy of strategic patience is over. additional patience will only mean acceptance of a nuclear north korea. the more we bide our time, the sooner we will run out of it. >> tillerson said it's a matter of team before north korea takes aim at the united states. he asked the international community to take steps now to make sure it doesn't happen. the u.s. stepping up their military presence now. rick leventhal has more. >> the secretary of state said business as usual is not an option.
12:24 pm
the pursuit of nuclear weapons of north korea is the gravest threat of the world today. he says we will not negotiation back. he said existing sanctions against north korea must be vigorously enforced and more pressure to kim jong-un and including possibility of military action. to back that up, the u.s. and naval strike group is headed to north korea, including u.s.s. carl vinson expected to arrive this weekend. >> all options to responding to future provocation must remain on the table. diplomatic powers have to be backed up by backing up aggression with military action. we much prefer a negotiated solution to the problem. we're committed to defending ourselves and our allies against north korean aggression. >> the secretary said if existing sanctions had been
12:25 pm
vigorously enforced, we might not be where we are today, jon. >> jon: secretary tillerson singled out china, rick? >> he did. he said china supplies 90% of north korean trade, which helps to keep the regime afloat. if they cut back on that number or cut off the regime, kim jong-un might be forced to comply with the international pressure. while the secretary sounded optimistic about china's cooperation, the chinese minute store of foreign affairs sounded defiant this morning. >> china urges all parties to remain calm and exercise restrained. we also demand the u.s. and other parties to refrain from conducting or expanding military also spoke sayingthe dtrk. their neighbors nuclear capability brings us ever closer to a tipping point. north korea could have asked to

demonstrators. tomorrow will mark president trump's 100th day in office. he's set to hold an evening rally in harrisburg, pennsylvania. candidate trump spend a lot of time campaigning in that state and paid off on election night. he gave a speech in pennsylvania spelling out his plans for his first 100 days. it hasn't all worked out yet. president trump still has more than 1,000 days left in his term. kristin fisher live with more. what's the plan for the next 100 days? >> jon, the top two priorities are the same two priorities that everybody is talking about. healthcare and tax reform. so over the next 100 days, we'll see the trump administration continue to push to repeal and replace obamacare and make progress on tax reform. they're also going to try to renegotiation and possibly terminate the north america free trade agreement, nafta and reduce the nuclear threat from north korea. hanging over all future accomplishments, at least the next few months, possibly years,

will be the cloud of congressional and fbi investigations into his campaign's ties to russia. there's the questionable fate of his two most controversial executive orders, the proposed travel back and crackdown on sanctuary cities. the president says he will fight that to the supreme court. one more thing to watch out for, jon. the next 100 days. trump will be embarking on his first foreign trips. his first stop will be the nato summit in brussels, belgium and then head to italy for the g-7. it's interesting to watch and see how a president is on his first trip overseas and how he's received as well, jon. >> jon: the president has talked about what he's learned so far, kristin. >> yeah, this is fascinating. in a recent interview with the associated press, president trump said one of the biggest lessons learned from him over the last 100 days is that pretty much everything you do in government involved heart.
12:34 pm
in business, most things don't involve heart. in business, you're better off without it. the first timetrump admitted that his heart was having a significant impact on his decision making was on dacca. the second time was his decision to strike in syria. so yesterday i asked sean spicer, can we expect to see more of this governing from the heart over the next 100 days? here's his response. >> i think you've seen a lot of it and you'll see more of it. he understands the policies he enacts and the decisions affect their lives and their families' lives and the ability to provide for themselves and keep their families safe. that's a different dynamic than you would have in business. >> that might not sit well with his base. many of them opposed his decision to enter seintervene i and allowing dreamers to stay in the united states. jon?
12:35 pm
>> kristin fisher on a beautiful friday at the white house. thank you. president trump will mark his 100th day in office without repealing and replacing the affordable care act and obamacare. house republican leaders say they won't vote on a new plan till next week. they're trying to come up with enough yes votes. paul ryan cancelled the vote on another healthcare bill because it didn't have enough support from moderates and conservatives. mike emanuel is live with more on that. mike? >> good afternoon. even though republicans have campaigning on repealing and replacing obamacare since 2010, it's been a struggle to get enough support to get it passed this time around. differences of opinion. a key conservative predicts they will ultimately get it done. >> i think we're there next week. today everyone wanted to get it for the 100-day, for trump, but i think it's a lot of scheduling. 450 people here booked friday and saturday. so early next week. >> i think we got it.
12:36 pm
>> there was intense pressure to see if they could put points on the board before the president's 100 day mark. last night, kevin mccarthy announced they didn't have the votes to get it done this week, john. >> so what are the democrats saying about this, mike? >> they're sitting back and watching republicans struggle with this difficult issue. they say they're willing to work with republicans on improving obamacare, but they're demanding that republicans give up any hope or any attempt to try to repeal it. >> if they take repeal off the table, we are ready to talk to them. i like what the leader said when he said that their bill is coming back from the dead this week. i thought maybe we could call at this time zombie. this thing is just -- keeps coming back worse, more scary to the american people. >> expect plenty more healthcare talk and debate here on capitol hill next week. if leadership can round up
12:37 pm
enough votes to patch it in the house, perhaps a vote on the house floor. >> mike emanuel. thanks. >> jon: let's bring in our political possible. brad blakeman, capri caffaro is here with us. she's from american university's school of public affairs. capri, is this somehow a victory for democrats, the fact that there's no repeal and replace obamacare in the first 100 days? >> particularly in this context yes, it is. one of the things that the democratic leadership in the house said, we will sit on our hands and ensure that we do not give support for keeping the government open, which the dead line is at the same time if you bring a vote up for the new healthcare bill with the new and improved healthcare bill with the mcarthur amendment. so the fact that basically the democrats tied together their
12:38 pm
support for keeping the government open to whether or not the republicans brought a healthcare vote to the floor i think shows that when the democrats hang together, they certainly can have a significant impact on the outcome because they do need everybody to get on board to make sure the lights stay on. i'll say this. looks like it's going to be groundhog day next week. they're going to try to do it again next week. we only got a week extension to keep the lights on. we'll have to go through this a ga n -- again in a few days. >> but next week is in the future. brad, were republicans smart to back away from a possible government shut down over healthcare? >> we're involved in a hostage negotiation. they created a mess of obamacare. we're here to clean it up. you think that they would want to get rid of something that is such an abysmal disaster.
12:39 pm
having said that, i think republicans are getting their act together, they're compromising. we're not treating healthcare like the democrats did. we didn't create a 3,000 page bill and ramming it down members those that never read it. getting it right is the key. it's not the timing. 2017 is going to be the year of action and 2018 with the mid-terms will be a year of reflection. if the american people have decided in 2018 we didn't make good on our promises on healthcare, immigration, taxes and infrastructure, then we'll have problems. >> and brad, as you well know, part of the reason there's been no repeal and replace is because there's no democrats apparently willing to get on board. paul ryan needs to wrangle every republican he can to get this done and so far he's not having success. if in is an all-republican repeal and replace bill like the original was all democrats, is it still going to have an effect? >> at the end of the day when
12:40 pm
the american people in the fall start receiving their notices again, that's when we'll see changes made. healthcare he take awhile to get back on its feet. why? it's such a mess. we have to have a transition period. so people are not left in lurch with higher premiums or no choice in healthcare or no coverage at all. so democrats, again, should thank their lucky stars that we're fixing what they broke. >> capri, are you prisurprised t not one democrat wants to get on the repeal and replace train? >> no, i'm not. i have mixed views on this to be quite frank. i do understand that obviously this is a landmark piece of legislation for president obama's legacy. they want to stand behind it. at the same time, there's recognition that needs to be improvement and fixes. i spent most of my adult career
12:41 pm
fixing things. leader pelosi said if they take repeal off the table and they want to talk about fixing the affordable care act, that will bring democrats to the table. but that will go against campaign promises of many republicans. it's a delicate dance but the american people deserve better. we need to stop the tit for tat. >> a lot of talk about the fact that this hasn't happened in the first 100 days. does that matter? >> it does not matter. at the end of the day when legislation, generational legislation is passed, people won't remember when it was passed. they'll remember when it takes effect. that's the important part of legislating, getting it to the president, getting it there congress and getting the agen agencies to start acts on it. this president is acting smartly. there's been fits from the start, sure, but at the end of the day, we'll come together, republicans of every stripe and
12:42 pm
we're going to pass the legislation and promises that we made. >> capri, will democrats, if there is something passed next week, that the american people like, will democrats climb on board? >> i doubt it. i really doubt it. it will be interesting to see how things go in the senate. i don't think that there's any compromise on behalf of democrats in the house. as i said at the beginning of the segment, it's going to be a ground hogs day. the democrats will play this same hand and say we're going to sit on our hands on the government shut down issue. >> we'll see what happens next week. thank you both. >> thank you. >> wall street blasting through records today. we'll see what is behind the surge. what it means for your money. also inside president trump's tax plan. how people might rush to take advantage of a proposal that could drastically slash how much they have to pay uncle sam. that's coming up. liberty mutuals when a fire destroyed the living room. we were able to replace
