>> welcome back. we have dual fox news alerts was the signing ceremony in riyadh, donald trump sitting down with the saudi king to sign historical agreement economically, militarily. >> there will be a statement from rex tillerson at 11 am. >> the vice president landed in grove city, live footage of him landing at the tarmac giving the commencement address is that we will cover live when he is
7:01 am
speaking. he is greeting people at the bottom of air force ii. why is "fox and friends" still on the air at 10:00 eastern time? a lot of historic moments, first time this has happened, a little over time, we will be on for the next hour. historic things happening around the globe. >> benjamin hall, you have been following this all afternoon, what a busy day, some busy moments to come. >> no way we can cut away from this. we are getting new information out of this. what started the moment is a lot of ceremony and formality welcoming, the president has moved on quickly, just eight hours into his trip and they have gone to the big deals we were expecting. in bilateral talks at the moment. the commerce secretary on the
7:02 am
president's left and rex tillerson on his right and after the meeting we get a signing ceremony. we are hearing there will be eight letters of acceptance and one letter of intent, these military deals, $110 billion in deals immediately and 3 $50 billion over the next we 10 years. there will be additional private-sector agreements. american companies will benefit from these deals, helping to upkeep materials. a lot of military analysts have seen they had to build up their military because of obama administration policies moving away from the. they had to become more aggressive in the middle east. ran pushed through, the saudi ministry had to build up by itself, looking at this present time, that is what we see happening, straight to business as he gets to these meetings and
7:03 am
many people around him, tillerson, wilbur ross and general mcmaster and the need for donald trump to speak out to countries around the region, to take a more forceful role in the battle against isis, to build this up again. that is one angle and the anti-radicalization program trump will talk about tomorrow in his all-important speech at 4:00 local but it has been a whirlwind so far, trump has been nonstop. the complexities of political intricacies, having to follow the small formalities you need when dealing with out is because everything is taken at face value, you have to know exactly how to behave and at the moment at least donald trump is doing very well. great success story for all
7:04 am
parties involved. >> doing a great job setting the scene with the billboard and the pomp and stands -- pomp and circumstance that is unfolding. >> it is amazing when you think of the officials that are there and their age. donald trump landing in riyadh at 2:30 eastern time, still going, hours left to go, the king of saudi arabia not in good health, they are touring palace. it is phenomenal when you think about what they are going through. >> air force one arrived, the king greets donald trump at the end of the red carpet, couldn't get there fast enough. american flags and saudi flags, cannons going up, trumpets flaring, billboards with the
7:05 am
president's face on it, not just the red carpet treatment but the platinum carpet treatment. america is back for them. >> air force one pooling in, literally the red carpet is rolled out, the king greeting donald trump at the tarmac which we didn't see when president obama went on his trip. didn't even show up. the king shaking the hand of ivanka trump and. >> here was the moment shaking hands for the first time. one thing that struck me was the amount of cameras saudi state television set up, they were taking multiple shots, crane shots. i don't know if it means much to you but in the tv world that is a lot of production and even some shots that failed and they cut away to graphics because the
7:06 am
saudi government had premade graphics showing the president, the saudi king side by side. the american flag fluttering in the wind. the amount of production that went into this trip, they knew all eyes were on us and the respect shown the united states was pretty remarkable. >> in the middle east it is you earn respect by being strong. saudi arabia seeing their ally back, whether his commitment to standing by our allies, saudi arabia feels like america's back has been turned to them as president obama signed a deal with the iranians. there's a reason these cameras are there, they want the world to see these handshakes and realize america is back on the stage. >> you mentioned these handshakes, seems like a simple handshake but we had karl rove on who has a lot of experience traveling with president bush and he talked about preparation
7:07 am
not just on the saudi arabian side his advisers have to walk in the room. another fox news alert, the signing ceremony. >> this cooperation agreement, we saw the bilateral agreement, that is donald trump on the right walking into the signing ceremony, $110 billion deal bringing american jobs into that region by expanding economically into a country that is pulling back and building skyscrapers. >> following a bilateral agreement between donald trump and his top staff and advisors. the package you talked about, $110 million includes services to support the long-term security of saudi arabia and the gulf region in the face of uranian threats and bolstering
7:08 am
the ability to contribute to counterterrorism operations across the region, reducing the burden on the us military to conduct those operations. >> fox news contributor judy miller, great to have you on the show. your impression of this trip and the historical significance of what is unfolding on your screen. >> this is saudi arabia's welcome to the man they have been waiting to see for more than eight years. an american leader who understands the importance of joining their traditional allies despite our differences to fight isis and to resume america's contact with the most important symbolic religious country in the middle east. this is the saudi's way of saying the last eight years our history, let's move on to the
7:09 am
future we have been waiting for for a long time. the saudi arabia i covered in 1979 no longer the same country, it is fighting in yemen, fighting isis, when today partner and all it felt it got from the obama administration was second guessing and an effort to cozy up to iran which is saudi arabia's traditional so. you can see in the welcome it has given our president that whatever his problems at home this is not a problem for saudi arabia. they want to make sure the arab world and the entire world knows that in their view america is back. >> the official signing ceremony of the saudi arabia arms deal, so many things at play. walk us through the importance of saudi arabia when you think of the first place donald trump
7:10 am
decided to go for his international trip, could have gone anywhere but he decided to go to saudi arabia. how important was that and what does that show in terms of how much we respect and see our relationship with them? >> the saudi's are custodians of 200 mosques, the symbolic heart of islam and been problematic for us because for many decades, for a century they have been supporting most rigid fundamentalist interpretation of their faith. be as it may they are leading the fight against isis in the arab world and uranian ambitions in the region. for donald trump to make saudi arabia first stop says he is absolutely committed to fighting isis and he is committed to
7:11 am
restoring the traditional alliances america needs to wage that fight effectively. >> in the statement around this signing ceremony it refers, makes mention of isis fighting in this region but specifically iran, how does iran react to this counterbalance the last eight years? >> the iranians have been preoccupied with their own election and in terms of the outcome of that, the reelection of rouhani was a good sign of the nuclear deal. and natural historic fault. and age old conflict. they understand what it means.
7:12 am
the saudi's just gave donald trump their highest honor. it is kind of like barack obama winning the nobel prize before he had done anything. their way of saying we believe in this man. >> we are watching donald trump sign this arms deal and economic deal, this signing ceremony. let's see if we hear any words from the president in this ambient room. take a look at this. you can hear cameras clattering in the background. >> a real historic moment. these two sitting together, $110
7:13 am
billion deal. the applause in the room. one thing you mentioned, this was a different saudi arabia and you covered in 1979. there are huge areas this country can improve. >> absolutely and it is important that melania did not wear a head scarf, that is a signal to all the saudi a women. >> what other signals do you anticipate coming out of this? today and tomorrow and as he goes on to jerusalem and israel and the vatican. what will they attempt to send?
7:14 am
>> they are sending a major signal that america believes in its traditional alliances. if you look at what barack obama did he never embraced egypt, the largest sunni arab country with the largest christian population, never embraced saudi arabia, we did business together but this is the signal donald trump wants to reform the traditional sunni arab alliance against isis and iran. this is repositioning american foreign policy and return to traditional alliances. >> you mentioned melania not wearing a head scarf, ivanka not wearing a head scarf and the king shaking their hands, something you don't often see in saudi arabia. the comfort level, when you see these trips it can be stiff, a bit uncomfortable but as we watch this play out, there does seem to be a feeling of comfort
7:15 am
and ease. >> there is. the saudis made a bed early on in the foreign minister who was for many years the ambassador in washington and the advisor to the previous ambassador understand our country, he was educated here, sidestepping the american political scene, we are going to bet on donald trump and they have. from the very beginning they have reached out, have many private trips, $110 billion deal hasn't come out of nowhere, they are sending every signal they are doubling down on their investment in a man who is indeed political trouble at home. >> you mentioned melania and ivanka not wearing a head scarf, neither is the interpreter who is also a female. a subtext of all this, radical
7:16 am
islam, this one hobby form of islam that is teaching radical teachings spreading the ideology of isis, what can donald trump get saudi arabia to do, not just bomb isis but get rid of the ideological poisoning they have been involved in? >> they have stopped a lot of that at america's requests. after 9/11 they understood whether proselytizing, and turning young arabs against them. let's not forget usama bin laden after his target was saudi arabia. usama bin laden was a saudi and he wanted to control the two mosques. he wanted to be ruling in the
7:17 am
symbolic heart of islam. once he got that message that the venom they were spreading would hunt them they cleaned up their act. what they can't control is hard to control, the individual wealthy saudi's who fund these movements and this ugly propaganda. >> the amount of money being shifted around, as we saw rex tillerson, the former head of exxon, secretary of state, shaking hands a moment ago. >> absolutely and the saudis have more oil than everyone else put together but they have also been trying to hold the line up front because they understand the implications of the decline in oil prices. they are under enormous domestic pressure at home.
7:18 am
30 million people are demanding free health, free education, free benefits, free pension, they are under pressure to produce for their own people in the price of oil had been depressed. >> this is a big moment in history, the signing ceremony underway, $110 billion deal between the us and saudi arabia. clayton mentioned rex tillerson, we expect to hear from him at 11:00 eastern time with the foreign minister giving a press conference. we will bring that to you. that is going on in saudi arabia. many headlines have been turmoil, the russian investigation. how does donald trump keep this momentum because it seems the trip is going very well. how does he change the narrative to keep it going?
7:19 am
>> we are 14 hours into it so we will see if donald trump can maintain self-discipline, not two, whether he can concentrate on the intense meetings in the days ahead. he goes from here to israel and the israelis are ambivalent about saudi arabia as the first choice rather than israel, there has to be obvious discernible benefits for the united states and that means focusing not on what is going on in washington but in riyadh and jerusalem and tel aviv. >> the message is to stay focused. we have a fox news alert, two of
7:20 am
them. keeping you on your toes, $110 billion deal signed between the united states and the saudi government, signing that next to king salman. on the right side of your screen in pennsylvania vice president mike pence about to speak. >> think about those images, donald trump in saudi arabia and mike pence in pennsylvania, worlds apart, pennsylvania is the state to send the president of the white house not understanding his first trip would be in saudi arabia to deliverable and message on radical islam. that is the consequence of elections. think about the economy, the shift from deficit to saudi arabia where we were in debt.
7:21 am
>> pennsylvania, north dakota have made saudi arabia less powerful. >> i wasn't thinking about that but graduate hearing the vice president speak live at 10:30 eastern. a lot going on this morning. the national security fellow at the hudson institute. thanks for being back with us. a lot going on this morning and journalists like yourself will be writing headlines about this trip in saudi arabia. if you are your hours into this trip what are the headlines so far? >> you never know, what it should be, donald trump forging a new relationship with saudi arabia, undoing a lot of what president obama did during his administration, determined to
7:22 am
fight terrorism, he wants to focus on that like a laser. a lot of symbolism we have seen, the first lady didn't cover her head. very noteworthy because the previous first lady, michelle obama, did cover her head and donald trump gave her a lot of grief when that happened. that is symbolic of the difference between the two administrations, the metaphor that this president is not ashamed of the united states, we do care about human rights, so far we are off to a great start and it is something the american people can be proud of. >> a lot of people surprised saudi arabia was first, air force one rolls up and visuals start, you don't know what you're going to see, we woke up and saw a red carpet and enthusiastic king and tv production that saudi arabia wanted to send a signal they are
7:23 am
embracing the united states. who is shaking their head in sadness and who is smiling saying this relationship is good? >> the iranians aren't happy. the iranians and saudis are their enemies. the iranians had a giant boone economically under the obama ad ministration because of that iran deal that ushered in billions of dollars to the reigning economy, eased pressure on their nuclear program, set their nuclear program back a few years, eased up pressure on their missile program so now the united states is back in terms of reestablishing traditional alliances and not putting up with terrorism the iranians continued to support and what they have been doing in the middle east which is causing problems and upheaval. the rest of the world appreciates a clear, strong,
7:24 am
unwavering american president and that is what they having donald trump. >> live pictures on the left side of your screen, a number of different supply lines and members of the administration, the saudi regime taking pictures after the signing ceremony was completed. a number of things, arms to this region and the president wanting a stronger stance from saudi arabia so the united states doesn't bear the full burden of this war. what does this mean for the battle against isis and syria? >> the saudis are good at fighting terrorism abroad. if they want a good relationship with the united states, the best thing an american president can do is stand firm rather than changing around and capitulating to other countries. what donald trump is going to do, i want a great arms deal with you, we will have this and
7:25 am
help your economy, got to expect something out of you in return, you have got to help us fight isis and the saudis will be anxious about doing that. >> a busy day as we have been reporting all morning long. an hour break and then have a meeting with the prince and the deputy prince. talk about the importance of that meeting. king salman is in his 80s, the next generation of saudi arabia and having that connection with whoever takes over from here. >> generations change. saudis want peace. the way the government is set up there is the royal family, the secular aspect of the government and the religious leaders. the saudis have problems to worry about in their country and
7:26 am
this is why when the united states pressures the saudis with humanitarian forms to allow religious liberty and freedom, there is not a synagogue or christian church in saudi arabia. that is the capital offense. the united states wants to encourage reforms in saudi arabia. you need a good relationship with the secular government and you can encourage those reforms by having stability in the region and setting an example, making a powerful statement. >> first lady melania trump and daughter ivanka not wearing the head scarf, actions speak louder than words and that is a perfect example when you show up showing mutual respect, we will come the way we want and you come the way you want and nothing they respect more and showing confidence, showing power.
7:27 am
>> power and confidence on our own principles. president obama viewed himself as the president of the world and donald trump views himself as the president of the united states of america. women are equal in our country, protected by our laws equally, we have pluralism and religious freedom. those are the principles we represent when we travel abroad. >> no churches are synagogues in saudi arabia. but there are in jerusalem and israel will be his next step. benjamin yahoo, how do they view this relationship? that has changed over time. >> israelis, new jersey, they have a man in tehran, israel needs to be wiped off the face of the map. they are in a dangerous neighborhood. what they care about are the iranians. donald trump is very popular
7:28 am
among many israelis because of his stance against iran. ushering in a new era where the israelis are willing and a lot of arab states are willing to work with the israelis in common interest pushing back isis and the influence of iran. >> we appreciate you joining us, thanks very much. don't adjust your set, you are watching "fox and friends," we are following two fox news alerts. on the left of your screen donald trump in saudi arabia with a historic moment signing this agreement with the saudi government with king salman, $110 billion deal as he kicked off his international trip. grove city, pennsylvania where mike pence is set to deliver a commencement address in five minutes. he is likely to be introduced
7:29 am
soon. of any developments in saudi arabia we will as well. we bring in lieutenant colonel michael walsh, commander commenting on this. this signing ceremony, your big take away, this relationship. >> my take away is islamic extremism and the fight against islamic extremism will be the underpinning of this trip. you have a visit to saudi arabia, the site of islam's two holiest sites followed by a trip to jerusalem, followed by a trip to the vatican. this is a broader effort against extremism that we need to undertake as a society and in the west. on top of individual battlefield in iraq, afghanistan and syria. what i'm looking for tomorrow is the president's speech to 50
7:30 am
muslim leaders and what you will see in terms of variance from what you saw under obama where obama in his famous speech to cairo put the onus on america's shoulders to change its behavior. from donald trump you will see him putting it on moderate muslim government to change the way they approach extremists for bastardize in their religion and causing violence all over the world. >> the dangerous world we have been living in when it comes to terrorism and isis, we can't tell you how many times we reported on another terrorist attack and unsettled every single day about the fight against terror, how we get it right. when you see these
