leland: im leland vittert at arlington national cemetery as we all take a moment to say thank you to those who gave the last full measure of devotion. as you would imagine, this study may rain is not keeping those families that the folks who are buried here from joining their loved ones this weekend really quite simply the only place they can be together. elizabeth: quite a solemn weekend we appreciate you are there. i am trained for. welcome to a special "america's news hq" live from washington. president trump is back at the white house tweeting and taking on the quote fake news. the president landed on american soil last night after a nine-day overseas trip capped off with a speech to u.s. service members stationed in italy. the president has a busy week ahead is in a growing list of policy and political challenges. kristen fisher has the latest from the white house. reporter: now the president trump is in washington, and an all-out assault against the

leakers within the federal government. leaks about the russia investigation and links about the manchester bombing, which as we all know infuriated the british government. president trump said on twitter this morning, quote, it is my opinion that many leaks out of the white house are fabricated lies made up by the fake news media. and not only is president trump tweeting about it, but his surrogates and cabinet members are talking about it today across the nation owes good homeland security john kelly followed by newt gingrich. >> it is outrageous. i don't know why people do it. it jeopardizes not only investigations, but puts people's lives in jeopardy. i don't know why people do it, but they do. that is the world we live in. >> people who violate the secrecy act sought to go to jail. what happened with the manchester example undermined the british investigation, weakened our relationship to

allies and is dangerous. whoever leaked that should go to jail. you start putting a few people in jail, you'll see the leaks dry up dramatically. reporter: this is the most vocal sign of what is happening behind the scenes pit the building of a white house war room to aggressively counter all of these leaks and all of the negative stories stemming from the russian investigation. all of this has the white house continues to try to move forward its domestic agenda. this weakness in our public and will struggle to come up with their version of the health care bill. you've also got congress considering the president's budget that both republicans and democrats have essentially said it that on arrival and president trump has said he will decide this week whether or not to pull out of the paris climate accord. one more thing, don't forget president trump's donates to name a new direct her to the fbi to replace jim comey.

elizabeth: busy week ahead. joining us now for murder break this all down, josh meyer, senior investigative reporter with "politico." thank you for joining us. first and foremost, i want to talk about the fact we've heard from national security advisor h.r. mcmaster this morning on "fox news sunday." he said it's not something that concerned him, that talk about never came to fruition the back channel between the u.s. and russians. i saw a political article that listed a couple former nsa generals who said they are super involved. what are people supposed to believe here? >> it depends on what was said, depends on the context. henry kissinger served as made the communications with countries and the huge successes in diplomacy is. what is really concerning two

intelligence community members is to talk about using a foreign government communications channels. >> that's what you're concerned about. the intentions are talks of any system of syria. more apologist takes is that your reporting? >> we know what they're talking about. one of the complications here is that jerry kushner is very unusual in terms of a senior white house adviser but with notes. on this kind of stuff. he may have just not known what you're supposed to do, not suppose to do it might've been very well-intentioned. the fact that there's concerned he was trying to be secretive about it and keep communications away from people in the u.s. government, people just want to know what happened. we haven't heard any response. >> some of the articles, church pastor and others under scrutiny.

the fbi cast a very wide this is a huge investigation. when they read that, this is strong terms we are using, but really they have a lot of work to do. you have to look at everybody. do not let you know, this could take years to do. a lot of familiarity with dozens of interviews and a lot of records to look at. when you get a lot of leaks like this, it raises questions about what they're looking at, whether they are going to look at it. this is something that's coming out of the investigation. it is an issue i think and again it is what might've been set, what was contemplated if it was just the way to establish communications with the foreign government. some of that you are supposed to wait until after administration takes over.

they will establish summer of communications. it all depends on the details. elizabeth: we heard from homeland security secretary john kelly, some very tough words for viewers at home, how are you able to nail down lakes. you may have someone in the obama administration, someone in the white house who's got a good relationship with the reporter, so many unknowns here. how do they begin to tackle the leaks? they are back when they get down to the nitty-gritty, congress is back in a couple days. they have to get to work. >> you keep hearing the term deep state, which is the sort of permanent government in terms of national security. some of the leaks are coming from there. people feel like their decades of experience they haven't seen in the administration, trump administration is different. a lot of people have no experience in government.

we can hear the thunder here at arlington to remember those who never made it home. right now the 30th annual fight for freedom to honor prisoners of war and service members who are still missing in action of whom there are many. gary tenney as along the ride route and hopefully we will be able to use hear it over the harley. >> i've got to tell you you would be hard pressed to find a more preacher out of crowley. thousands of people still lining the streets to cheer on the writers who are paying respects were the men and women who died in service of our country. they expect as many as 900,000 motorcycles to take part in today's event. for a lot of folks, this has become an annual event. they come from every state in the nation, traveling or days to get here.

shoulder were so many from the war on terror are buried. some of those who served with. there is a price for keeping people up at night. but as the balance for this administration? >> this administration is to make sure they have good strategies and keep key commanders that make good recommendations. those in the defense community, everyday is memorial day, so we need to make sure we take care of their needs and have good strategies before we go into foreign engagements. >> we've certainly seen enormous change in rhetoric in the past 120 days since president trump was inaugurated. we have seen a change also in the view towards america's military. live pictures of rolling thunder. have we seen a change at her veterans feeling that difference are the troops doing the difference yet where are the good deed still to come? >> the competences they are. just sort of holding them up,

acknowledging their story, the engagements they've had, all administrations have a bipartisan issue, but there is a thrust of confidence and we've got a lot of work still to do in the veteran community. we are in a good place right now. leland: where is the work still to be done? >> would indicate calibrating the assessment. we still have health issues and issues with the va we are working through. we do have a supportive public and there's more work to be done. we are in a good spot right now. leland: as he sat in the military, everyday is the moral day for no other reason than everyday he realized a couple of buddies who weren't there. folks who went to war with who are no longer with us. you i'm sure will walk some of these rows after we are done. would you say? what do you think about? >> there's many organizations that do a lot of good work.

supporting the organizations in voices heard from an advocacy perspective. also for memorial day, those who serve together at this happy moments as well. we reflect on our service and it's an important day for the community. leland: what strikes me from walking along these rows is how times is not necessarily all fallen. parents come to be with their children. there's kids coming to be with their fathers. as you watch them, there's interaction with their family members. >> is divine. military service to connect with those people. you learn a lot and build skills for their life for moving on. there is the aspect in giving back, but there's the moment to come together. it is always a special moment for veterans on memorial day and veterans day in particular. leland: for veterans and those they have fought to preserve the

come together and defeat pacers. that shouldn't overshadow a domestic agenda he's been pushing forward since he's been elected and they shouldn't allow anything else to distract pushing toward what he ran on such as creating more jobs. he's great at 550,000 jobs since he's become president. they've gone up close to 3000 points. what you are seeing here is a president that's god his honeymoon period is over. we've seen successes here in the united states but also abroad. trades will want to bring you in because eric said he's coming off a positive tone that he wants to get back to this domestic agenda. do you think it that simple? >> at never that simple. eric is largely right. it was a successful trip. i agree with speaker boehner. he was much for successful in the foreign-policy front in the domestic front. the trip was a success. i give it to be. the saudi speech was strong. he stayed on a script. we have big questions about the

$100 billion oil deal. they came from saudi arabia and the country gets a lot of money to radical terrorism including a face. we have to make sure it's not a saudi middle east but rather u.s. middle east policy. in israel, it's a shame he mentioned the naming issue in front of benjamin netanyahu. the summit was good, i think some missed opportunities to support article v and they should stay in the paris accord by the way. it's not mandatory. the message to the domestic front. domestically, it almost to congress and congress, congress, congress. he's had trouble on the domestic front. health care. >> he needs to rein in congress. there's been so much focus on the russian investigation. a lot of voters are seamless in, we want to see movement on health care. we want to know more of the cbo report in the senate come up with something. we went to see tax restructure command infrastructure deal. they want all these things.

i'm not sure we'll see that by the end of summer. >> here's the thing. he was low in the box is inside of washington d.c., you're right. we passed health care through the house announced to the senate and we expect our senate and congressional leaders to act. all he can do is set the agenda on what he ran on. we need leadership that comes from within on both sides of the republican and democratic aisle. donald trump has set the tone not only overseas. elizabeth: how does he do that when even this morning he was tweeting he was tweedy knockabout fakeness and lakers. we don't know who those flickers are and where they are coming from. obviously topic of conversation if he is tweeting about it. >> i will tell you how. elizabeth: how? >> is destroyed his presidency. >> you could argue that's how he got elected. >> yeah, but we can argue that doesn't work once elected.

the crisis unit being put in place in the white house is the really good stuff. it won't work unless there's increased transparency and it gives thrown off every time it's not going to work. eric and i agree he's going to have to move to the center and get both parties on board for infrastructure tax reform. that donald trump can lead to accomplish some of the things we're both talking about today. >> i combat it from from a different angle. i think he ran on a certain agenda, really a trump coalition. not a ceiling he had from the republican base. he reaches 100 million people in bypassing the washington establishment which includes the mainstream media. donald trump leads and he led many years on the business front and now he's leaving on the political front. we expect or other leaders to follow his lead or the trump coalition is weaker than one party and will he see that in the next few days.

visit. >> there's a lot of a lot of story and a lot of people braving this terrible weather to thank those who have given so much. today was a family man or his good real estate classmates who have given their life for service to their country. there is just so much that it's really hard to put it all into words. leland: is there a reminder that america needs come in a tangible reminder that said it takes us away perhaps for a moment from the barbecues and golf games and beach trips? >> i think so. most americans celebrate this weekend is the beginning of summer. younger americans don't really know what it's about. the ability to do one small gesture that will mean so much of the gold star families coming out here to visit their loved ones. that's enormously important. leland: tell me if i'm wrong, but a lot of the people behind us putting flowers on the screens may not have any particular connection and military. they just want to say thank you here's >> you are correct. so many people i've met around

the military want to find ways that they can thank a servicemember. most people don't know servicemember like past conflicts, especially with the men and women have sacrificed a lot of people here have no military association whatsoever. leland: how is this more different in so many others? you sign-up or west went before 9/11. if the war still going on? this is the longest america has ever been at war. something you study. does that make it different? >> every conflict has its own uniqueness. i'm not an expert at all that having served in iraq and having lost friends, and a lot of the challenges we face overseas and in an conflict are things many people get to see via social media and other things. america can better understand it to agree but they still don't fully understand what's happening out there. leland: we appreciate what you are doing, what rally point is doing. when you visit your friends are west point, pass on her gratitude as well.
