go. of course, no one is being allowed to go to a certain place on the other side of the bridge. people are being advised for accommodation. so if any of these people are terrorists or locals the police will want to advise them on where they should go tonight. i was here about an hour ago, an hour and half ago and i told from people who have been in the restaurants and bars on the other side of the bridge that i spoke to a man we interviewed earlier they were drinking at a pub and they describe how police ran in and told them to run and they ran across the bridge. they got into a random person's car to get over here. they saw two people lying on the ground another people covered in blood. a lot of people were very
5:04 pm
agitated. they made their way away, and they seem to be stranded on the other side of the ridge. to show you how many people are caught up in this incident on the other side and borough market. >> thank you. let's hear from that witness that you spoke to a little earlier on. >> we are at the pub and came out and that got canceled. we saw people running and so we jumped in the nearest car. we were trying to run the block and we saw the body on the floor. a lot of people around it. we came on the bridge and there was a two pedestrians on the bridge and police telling us to run to the other side.
5:05 pm
>> , new people did you see on the ground? >> two. and then we saw someone actually right there covered in blood with shorts covered in blood. >> were people panicking? >> yes. everyone was running. it was before the bridge on the ground on the other side by the river. >> let's update you to the latest. this terrorist incident as it is being described by police. twenty-five minutes past midnight metropolitan police treating the incidents on the bridge and borough market as connected to terrorism. there had been a suggestion of a third incident number told by
5:06 pm
the metropolitan police that that is not connected to the first two. in the chronology of events about eight minutes past ten the police were alerted to an incidence on london bridge. a vehicle have been driven into pedestrians on both sides of the bridge. a number of injuries had resulted. the police had confirmed another incident report of stabbings taking place liberal market itself. armed officers attended that and shots were fired. this was a result of one man -- he was a spectator and i spoke to him a few minutes after he had managed to leave the bridge. he had been in a taxing and crossing london bridge. this is what he saw. >> i think it was about ten past ten, i was in the bathroom --
5:07 pm
suddenly on the left-hand side of the bridge on the pavement there was somebody down on the pavement with a small crowd around them. very concerned about their welfare. to be honest it look like somebody had collapsed and i wondered what was going on. we drove a little bit further southward across the bridge a notice there is another person on the right-hand side of the bridge. that person was also in the road itself. and suddenly realize something quite serious with happening. suddenly the traffic came to a standstill. and the driver said something bad is happening here and we could hear sirens coming in
5:08 pm
suddenly we noticed another in the road and then the traffic coming from the opposite direction from the south. they said there were numerous people in the roads and then a second cabdriver said there have been a series of stabbings. i did not see that myself. i cannot confirm that. at that is what the risk reports we have. >> from what you saw, of course you saw -- this is fox news
5:09 pm
channel following our sister network, sky news which has been focusing on the terror incidents taken place at london bridge and borough market. a third incident has been deemed not a terrorist attack. that was a step in that took place, all of this unfolding on london bridge where the reports from reports that people were being denied in stabbed in gunfire. the borough market we heard that one person told the sky news photographer that he saw five men armed with a blades and one with a foot-long blade. assailants armed with blades at the restaurant and borough market. the man another through battles and shares at a man after he stabbed a woman inside the restaurant. the joint terrorism analysis center which is like our homeland security is determining if they should raise the terror threat level tonight. regardless there is an ongoing active investigation of this
5:10 pm
terror attack. the second terror attack in a couple of months in london. plus last week's attack in manchester. london is an internet international city that has a lot of tours. finding shelter is a concern tonight. you can imagine how fearful people are. some reporters from scott determining how the fear is resulted in some people raising their hands and putting hands overhead as they walk out of the terrorist areas. they don't know why they put their hands on the heads just they thought it was the proper thing to do. having fear of what might on full. we have more from washington. the state department has advice for americans who are in london at this hour. >> in situations like these that one of the main concerns is to identify any americans that could be in that area. on these situations and in
5:11 pm
london was so many tourists, particularly the heavy tourist spot for americans, that will be a challenge going forward. we've received a statement say they are monitoring the incident in our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected by the situation. emergency services are responding. u.s. citizens should he guidance from local authorities maintain security awareness. updates from the metropolitan police, we stand ready to provide all possible assistance should we become aware of any affected u.s. citizens. please monitor media and local information systems. lastly, this is important. we strongly encourage u.s. citizens in the united kingdom to directly contact concerned family members in the united states to advise them of your safety. >> we also saw that the president issued a tweet saying
5:12 pm
we are with you, god bless. how are police in the united states responding to the terror incidents in london at this hour? >> we have an extremely close intelligence relationship with the united kingdom. one u.s. law-enforcement source tells us they may not be hearing as much after this attack from their british counterpart following the leaks of intelligence that took place after the attack in manchester a few weeks ago. another u.s. official tells catherine that classified intelligence has shown that threats targeting europe are among the worst they have seen in a decade. they were expecting to see a spike in violence during the month of ramadan. >> with me is it julie banderas, as we see this unfold in london, it is something in the u.k. that they are becoming all too
5:13 pm
familiar with and having to react with the same kind of fear and reactions and police are doing the best they can to protect the people. garrett has already answered the question about how police in the united states are responding. julie, as we watch developments there, there still to terror attacks that police are investigating. people are fearful and they're putting their hands over their heads and looking for shelter tonight because i don't know where they will go. >> at first their kindness and incident. the refused and paused before calling it a terror investigation. they did that carefully, vigilantly. the fact they are linking this to terror, number of reasons why. the number of assailants involved is one of the reasons why. this looks like it was a
5:14 pm
preplanned terror attack. it started on the london bridge with the white advancing speeding up to 50 miles per hour. it ran over about 20 people. three people including the driver hopped out of the car. some holding 12-inch long blades. they started randomly stabbing people. people were found mine on the bridge with stab wounds and bleeding. later you heard about shots fired. not so far away, borough market is about 80 yards from london bridge. shots were fired there. it's possible that assailants went on foot and started running. law-enforcement were quick to catch up with them and shoot them. we have not heard of fatalities of the assailants. if they were shot that jumped out of the van, out of the london bridge, we would've heard about it by now. it seems as though at this point, there currently searching for four armed say assailants. >> there were two locations of there could be more. you look at the london bridge
5:15 pm
there are different actions and responses. people were saying run, hide and tell what's going on. this comes on the heels of a terror incident that took place at the concert in manchester where children were impacted by a terror attack there. as a look at this and are thinking of what is going on. we can only follow the breaking list of elements as they unfold. a night of shock and horror and terror in london. >> absolutely. kristin fisher is at the white house who joins us with the latest. earlier the president reacted and he tweeted that this was a reminder of the travel ban he wants here. he wants to prevent this from happening in the united states. >> president trump from the very beginning has said his travel ban is absolutely essential to keep our country safe.
5:16 pm
the travel ban we're talking about was to temporarily ban travelers from six muslim majority nations. it was blocked by the lord courts that found it discriminatory. now, president trump says what is happening in london is another reminder of why he believes this travel ban is so necessary. since it happened the president has been active on twitter. he has posted two things. the first one he says, whatever the u.s. can do to help out in london and the u.k., we will be there. we are with you. god bless. he also said this, tweet about the travel ban. we need to be smart, vigilant, and tough. we need the courts to give us back our rights. we need the travel ban as an a level of safety. the president has vowed to fight this to the supreme court. his administration making good on the promise just two days ago
5:17 pm
by asking the supreme court to revise the span. that is how the president is trying to push this through in the wake of this attack. the british prime minister, tresa may said it is being investigated as a possible terror attack. president trump is at the white house and has been briefed by the national security council. so has the vice president, mike pence onboard air force two. he was traveling back from iowa. he has spoken with president trump about all of this. they're going to continue to monitor this throughout the evening. if they get any updates they will pass it along. likely, as we have seen repeatedly as president trump likes to do, he will likely tweet about it on twitter. >> thank you. we're just reading that the bbc has reported that there is more than one fatality. >> one person has died it is not clear how that person die. we do not know if where it took
5:18 pm
place. it could've been one of the two locations. we'll follow the developments of that period will go back to sky news and find out more as the night continues to unfold. it is past 1:00 a.m. there. >> at least three people emerging with very large knives. i met started attacking it stabbing members of the public. did anyone you spoke to corroborate that? >> i do not speak with anyone. at the time it was three hours from that. we have been on the ground for about an hour and a half. we haven't been able to speak to anyone before that. >> thank you. i know you will continue to speak to people around here and try to get any information you can.
5:19 pm
there are still i believe in the morning a lot of people coming, understanding out of curiosity to see what is going on. other people have been stuck because stations around here have closed down. bus services have been diverted. taxes are not running into this part of london. some people are still in the late-night pubs and just staying put there. other people are being taken out and hanging about and if you can get a taxi or another way home at some point. others are just going on a long walk but of course as they do so, there had enough to an environment that might not be say. at this hour, we have to have confirmation that all of the suspects involved in this now to terrorist incidents in south london, on london bridge and south on borough market in custody.
5:20 pm
as we hear more, please resources heading towards this area to continue that hunt and make the area safe. more confirmation from scotland yard that all of the suspects have you been accounted for. >> thank you very much. i suggested there the sheer volume of resources are deploying to the streets. at least it suggest this operation is not to an. the fact that more are arriving as we speak in and around borough market and london bridge. again, we must wait confirmation of this from the police themselves. one would suggest it would be best if anyone in around the ade police and get this far away from the area as quickly as possible.
5:21 pm
you spoke to a number people as they have been trying to move away. it is difficult given the time of night and at the transport network would close down. >> absolutely. also a number of hotels within the police know. people had a fire alarm they're telling me, they're told to come of the building and quite a vast police force past the borough station itself. i'm currently in the area they have open their doors from the people have been evacuated. children very young, as young as eight or nine. you can see the pictures that i'm showing to you on my phone.
5:22 pm
they were having dinner and borough market. what exactly did you see? >> we just finished paying for militant 15:00 p.m. there is a panic. a young lady came rushing into the restaurant say someone was waving and knife around outside. a manager got everybody in a safe area. we were stuck in that area for about an hour and a half. at which time we heard several shots. we had no real idea what was going on except to say that we knew there was police activity outside. after about an hour and half we were led out of the restaurant until to run with her hands on
5:23 pm
our heads. we saw various activity outside. it was a very busy scene for the police. we have been walking for a while. that's all i can tell you at this stage. >> nick, i wonder if you can still hear me? in regard to the evacuation at the hotel, you've spoken to some who have stayed at the hotel. you understand that happened just because of where that hotel is located. or was there any suggestion that people inside were specifically at risk? >> no suggestion to anyone that i spoken to that they were at risk. seems people heard sirens in a
5:24 pm
short time afterwards the fire alarm went off in the evacuation process began. seems to be that the police or the services were in the area and had notified the hotel to trigger the alarm and evacuate the premises. there were children here, they're getting ready for bed after a hard day of being in the center of london. now they find themselves in a place just south of where they should be spending the night. there's no indication there's any threat to that hotel. it just appears the evacuation process was triggered on they're working with the emergency services to get them -- when i ventured close they were coming south anywhere.
5:25 pm
the court it has expanded even since i arrived at the scene. it's a very wide area. not just there for a taxi. people are being told to stay inside and lock their doors. luckily the landlord here at the royal oaks has open their doors as a refuge for those stranded. >> thank you very much. before the metropolitan police confirmed this was indeed a terrorist related. they released this statement, following updates from police and security officials i can confirm that the incidents in london is being treated as a
5:26 pm
potential act of terrorism. it's a fast-moving eight investigation. i want to express my huge gratitude to those on the scene and our thoughts for those who are caught up in these dreadful events. the pubs are opening their doors to bring in people who have been asked to leave their hotel. will speak with jason, you have been speaking with some of those caught up in this incident this evening. >> i am south of borough market where much of the area has been taped off. i'm here with two people who are caught up. what happened? just described to me what the situation was with you. >> we were upstairs at the air b&b on the third floor. we just heard gunshots and a lot of crashes. as we looked outside the first thing you see is confusion on the street.
5:27 pm
on the before the police came there is a lot going on and people were running in different directions. then the police were telling people to evacuate. we were just trying to see what was going on. they hauled us down and told us to evacuate. >> how many police at this stage? >> in the beginning not very many. but within five minutes an insurmountable amount of police officers, firefighters, ambulances. take out going by the minute which is great because of the level of confusion. >> they told us to get away as far as possible. >> there is a lot of gunshots allowed noises. a lot of police. >> they did tell us exactly what
5:28 pm
was happening. they just said for our safety we need to get as far away as possible. they told us to leave all of our stuff and run as far away. >> did they come in? >> we were looking outside the window and they told us to come down. >> even five floors out you're not safe. >> you have to get out and you have to get out now. >> we saw people coming out in their pajamas without any shoes on. it was traumatic. >> did you see anything else? you do not see the attackers. >> were not able to see the attackers. we saw a lot of aftermath. thankfully there able to take control of the situation quickly and direct the traffic. >> was anybody injured?
5:29 pm
>> there have been a few injuries and some casualties. >> i understand you're flying home tomorrow. >> we are from canada. we just told us to leave and we left all of our luggage back there. we have a flight to catch tomorrow. >> we came here with the nbc tv show so we came to help that out have to fight back tomorrow for our premier. >> understanding been a facebook the people have offered to places to stay. >> people have been so nice. they been strangers asking us if we need a place. >> they been asking in general. for us we've had a bit of a following who has followed us throughout our journey. as we posted what was going on they responded and a friend of
5:30 pm
ours who had been following us through facebook said they have a place of for us to stay. >> it's been a special few hours that without anything. >> were not from here so were just wandering time figuring out where to go. >> i'm glad to have some work to stay. thank you for talking with us. the man holding the camera was holding the scammer at the moment was also caught up in this. he was pushed away by the police and had a similar experience. he also spoke to someone in the restaurant to talked about one of the attackers walking into that restaurant with about a foot-long knife and he described throwing tables and chairs and bottles to try to find this guy off. and we understand that they stabbed a woman in that restaurant.
5:31 pm
>> thank you. allison we are hearing from a variety of sources now including a reporter and son reporter. that there has been some light banks. when someone hears something like that people panic. but the likelihood as it stands is these were controlled explosions. >> either these were controlled explosions or something else. i was echoing around and has been exaggerated in the scene. we have not heard those reports from our own correspondence. they are being reported on twitter by journalists. let's assume they are true, controlled explosions in the aftermath of a terror attack is nothing unusual. as we report as people try to figure out what went wrong.
5:32 pm
it's very hard in the hour to after an attack what is the fact and what is misreporting of events, albeit genuine from eyewitnesses who get caught up in what is a very panicked and frightening scene. and struggled to remember exactly what they saw. only talk about the numbers of people, there been reports of three men getting in the back of a white fan. other saying they're not sure. other reports of five attackers in an outside a restaurant. there is a lot of moving parts. >> in all of this so soon after the decision was taken by the prime minister for an increase in armed security personnel on the streets john from the military. >> the military word deployed
5:33 pm
almost exclusively into the streets of london last week. this was taken place after the manchester terror attack. those have been scale back now. the threat level race to critical is been reduced to severe, that was last weekend. just to be sure that is not a decision taken by the prime minister government. it's not a political decision. it's done by the joint terrorism center. the constantly review and assess it. it is a decision based on intelligence at the time. they felt that the work done by the terror commands in the police in the days after the manchester attack to round up the network associated with those attacks was sufficient work to bring that threat level
5:34 pm
down from critical to severe. so, people will probably as they listen to this and watch it and wake up in the morning say, why was that threat level brought down and only a few days later we have another attack. while the two incidents are probably unrelated. the threat level is assessed independently and objectively. it was assessed in relation to the manchester attack and now we have something else happening. >> the thing that strikes me time and again is the resilien resilience. just hearing from the police advising people to continue to avoid london bridge however, there are continuing on london
5:35 pm
bridge. the wheels keep turning in the city no matter the efforts put into disrupting the way of life. >> london is a huge city of about seven and half million. on a weekday the commute into london is a almost double that. i was on the scene of western terror attacks because that's close where offices are. if you're close to the scene similar to the pictures were sena it will feel is the the area has come to us standstill and is on lockdown. but you travel in one direction or another into the heart of london and life continues as normal. of course, nobody would want come apart from terrorists to stop that from happening. the police, the government and mayor anyone involved in trying to keep london safe and moving
5:36 pm
will wants other parts of london to continue as much as possible but of course what we have going on now in london bridge and the vicinity which is very much central london we have an ongoing terrorist incident and a lot of arms place. >> a number of casualties as you can see. we have not had official confirmation of numbers. we do have the it reports that they have sufficient resources to deal with what is going on. the assistant director of operations has put out this statement. where responding to an incident alongside other at london bridge and sent a number of ambulance crews, paramedics and especially us to the scene the first of our medics arrived in six minutes. advanced trauma team has been
5:37 pm
dispatched by car. we are working closely with other members at the scene with priority been to get people to safety and ensure they receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. the initial is to ensure that people are treated and taken to the hospital. >> were talking about the armed presence on the street and about the terror threat level. what is your best guess as to how they will take the senate and perhaps consider a move against the highest level of readiness in regard to terrorist threat. >> the threat level was raised last week because the attack in manchester was a sophisticated attack in so much that it was a bomb.
5:38 pm
the intelligence agencies were pretty sure there is more than one individual behind that particular attack. there were, at the time a lot of unknowns. they did not know who is behind it or how why the network was they didn't know if there was another attack. those are the reasons why the terror threat level was raised from severe to critical in light of the manchester attack. similar questions and considerations will be taken into account on this one. who is responsible as best we know? are they still at large to have others helping them? do they still pose a threat to london or anyone else in the united kingdom? if the answer is that they do potentially pose an ongoing threat it would be reasonable to think that the eight threat level would be raised.
5:39 pm
no sooner would it be which means an attack is eminent or possible they want to bring it down as as fast as possible. going back to the medical response. of course, just behind to the streets on london bridge it is just further along the embankment. >> coincidentally i was at an event here talking to a consultant and asked whether not he had been a part of the response to the weapons attack and he hadn't. set a lot of his colleagues had rushed out with first-aid kits and blankets and et cetera. he made the point that although in that case there right next door to where the attack
5:40 pm
happened, because of the ways the emergency response like this in london is rehearsed in practice and thought through it doesn't mean they take casualties to the nearest hospital. they go to major trauma hospitals designated around the capital. that is an indication of the planning that has gone into a response for an event like this. i think in these early days to past to early to pass judgment. it would seem as though judging by the response time in the pictures of the scene by eyewitnesses that the response to this attack was extremely rapid, indeed. but then you would expect that right in the center of london. >> in a moment we will speak with our correspondent.
5:41 pm
first we have a statement from the mayor of london. he said this. the metropolitan police are responding to the terrorist attack on london bridge and borough market. my thoughts are with everyone affected and i want to thank the brave men and women who are first on the scene. and those will be working tonight. i'm in close contact with the commissioner and senior officers and are being kept updated on developments. i will be attending -- later this morning. they say whatever station is closed and were asking people to avoid the area. the situation is still a folding. i ask all londoners of visitors to our cities to remain calm. please report anything suspicious. they conclude that we do not yet know the full details. this was a deliberate attack on londoners and visitors to our
5:42 pm
city enjoy their saturday night. i condemn it in the strongest possible terms. there's no justification whatsoever for such barbaric acts. mark, some very strong words from the mayor of london there. a deliberate cowardly attack. no justification whatsoever he says cowardly attack. no justification whatsoever he says in the first confirmation that this is a terrorist attack really in the form of an expansive statement there pointing out as you say it was a barbaric and cowardly attack and there could be no justification for it according to the london mayor. in the last few minutes to consumers speaking about the possibility of controlled explosions. we just heard two explosions and lost five minutes here. just from the area around london
5:43 pm
bridge. that area has seen a lot of police activity. at the moment we saw officers with shields pushing forward toward the london bridge toward the high street area. it is possible they can be controlled explosions. a couple of explosions together and also on the back of other reports little earlier, to me it sounds like it is more likely they'll be the kind of distraction and stunned grenades used by officers when they are pushing forward. like devices we've seen in manchester following the arena attack there were armed police entering a property fearing that people could be there in arms to fight back they do these
5:44 pm
distraction devices to gain control. we don't know if all of the suspects have been accounted for. the police have not said that. all they are put out actually is very interesting tweet the run, hi, tell message that's put out in the event of masculine shootings urging people to run, hide if they can and to tell people if it's safe and took all the emergency services. clearly were dealing with an incident as far as the police and putting that message out there are still suspects at large. we understand at least one suspect may have been subdued. there's report somebody was shot by our place. again pictures circulating on social media that shown individual line on the ground
5:45 pm
with what appears to be canisters attached to his torso. temperatures not been authenticated but it is widely circulated now on social media showing someone it appears to be a suspect line on the ground with canisters attached to this alleged suspects torso. more than three hours after this incident unfolded just still an active incident with two crime scenes. one it borough market which is around the corner from where i am. the other at london bridge which is a short distance away from borough market itself. all of the time were told that more resources are arriving. they sporadically clear out of the way on occasion to allow
5:46 pm
these vehicles to go through. as you can see they are public officers and reinforcements brought in probably from other london boroughs. some of those officers wearing protective helmets and carrying shields as they were involved in an active hunt for suspects who had knives on them. i'll be speaking in the second to my colleague who has been speaking to eyewitnesses in the immediate aftermath he's beginning some information. what is the latest? >> a lot of the people seen the shots and it's very close to london bridge just behind us.
5:47 pm
i just tried to walk up to talk to people and a lot of people -- were about three hours from when the incident did take place. >> and a lot of people still here. think they've decided to stick around and had a look or they can't get home. >> religious winter tried to speak with people to see if there were witnesses. a lot are very high emotional. would the event recently in manchester they've seen a lot of police activity. were still seeing ambulances come through the police cars. i think the general thought set a lot of the streets are closed off. this part of london has come to a standstill. >> the offering people a chance to shelter in place, to govern their thoughts and wait until things calmed down a bit.
5:48 pm
even people locally around here the former deputy assistant commissioner at the time of the bombings he lives around here and has been tweeting out and inviting people at they want somewhere to stay. some real acts of kindness that you can see when these incidents of pulled as well. >> also a definite sense of tension. we just got into the hotel one woman just said check people's bank spirit don't let anybody in without checking the banks. there's a sense of tension. people not knowing there's anything buddy on the scene and looking very much for people behind us it's not going police. >> thank you. i know you're going to find more information for us.
5:49 pm
that is evidence around here, we see occasionally please point people to the side they made one or two arrest and they're usually out of an abundance of caution. people who they want to eliminate from their inquiries. were hearing more signs of explosions just further up the street. probably a bit too far in the distance for you to make out. i'm just going to go to the side because more police reinforcements are coming through and heading toward our area. toward london bridge, controlled
5:50 pm
explosions are being carried out. it sounds more like the distraction devices, stunned grenades that please use when they are pushing forward with their trying to confront arm suspects. we know in terms of the suspects their arms at the very least with very large knives. these horrific reports that have been emerging from where than one source but a white transit van that after it crashed into people on the bridge and came to a halt, the back doors opened and at least three people emerged from the van carrying large knives. they began stabbing people on the london bridge and another incident we don't know if that was involved in the same group of people or a different group of people. that was also involving the multiple step in incident where at least one suspect pushed forward into a restaurant.
5:51 pm
he was held back by people throwing glasses of whatever they could. still very active with the scene around london bridge. judging by the explosions we can hear in the police activity that continues. >> will let you try to see what those noises are. we will be back with you shortly. let's remind you of the statement from the london released in less 15 minutes. he said the metropolitan police are responding to the horrific terrorist attack on london bridge and borough market. my thoughts are with those affected. i want to thank the brave men and women who are first on the scene and will be working through the night.
5:52 pm
the situation is still unfolding and i ask all londoners and visitors to remain calm and vigilant. please reporting think suspicious to the police. only called 999 in an emergency. we don't yet yet know the full details. this was a deliberate attack on innocent people on our city enjoying their saturday night. i condemn it in the strongest possible terms. there is no justification for such barbaric act. we are not yet four hours from the first calls made from london bridge to the american embassy but we've had strangers opening their doors in and around borough market. we know of one pub that has opened a store to temporary residence of the hotel those evacuated with some securing for their safety. of course the taxi drivers have also been telling their tales. we spoke with one earlier on who told us but to passengers caught
5:53 pm
up in events in and around borough market. >> there is to passengers. they came out of the restaurant and they described to me was they prevented guys from getting in the restaurant and they knew their bad people basically that tried to break in. they managed to hold the door for a few seconds then was overpowered. so they escaped the rear door and maybe saving 20 lives. >> so they managed to get out of the back. >> yes. that's when -- how did they seem when you pick them up? >> they were in shock. you can judge by their face.
5:54 pm
she was almost in tears. they've had a bad experience. >> yes and they're very shaky as well. i got them safely home. >> thank you very much. we appreciate that. >> we have course have not yet heard from the london ambulance. or the hospital to which people have been center the nature number of casualties. it appears clear that if it hadn't been for the actions of both the police and some very brave members of the public, the situation in london might have been worse. understandably the initial focus was on the first instead to take place. that is on london bridge. the vehicle said to be a white
5:55 pm
van came off the road and then on the process mode down several people. and perhaps according to reports coming in via social media, those injuries may have been very serious. then, as we have been hearing throughout the evening, events in and around borough market very close to london bridge. very popular area with tourists. our cameramen being told that men wielding knives. a witness spoke with our reporter as well. >> is just outside borough market and i just saw people run away from the market. people were lying on the ground to end a it taxi driver with his window dollars yellow people to run. it was quite intense gunfire.
5:56 pm
i hid in a basement for about an hour. the police told us to get out of there was more gunfire. they just evacuated now. >> what were the police telling you about what was happening? >> they did not give us any details. we could see on the tv there's people on the restaurant on the ground. >> these were people who were injured? >> yes. they just said there are casualties. they did not say what their injuries were. >> how did you feel? >> it was terrified. i'm still in shock.
