june. pete: summer solstice isn't here yet. we will get rick reichmuth to weigh in on it soon but first some politics. abby: story happened midweek right here on this show when it broke on wednesday the shooting that happened with the congressman and two of the aides. now it's been released names of targets. i don't know if you would want to call it deranged totally messed up person. pete: a left wing lunatic. the fox news alert this morning the names of six house g.o.p. members were found on the congressional shooter's effectively a hit list. showing this was indeed are assassination attempts. these were found in his van in a list. representative trent franks. representative jeff duncan. representative scott deshare his. representative jim jordan mo brooks and more began griffith. conservative republicans. abby: that's when he asked when he was walking on the field. he asked the congressman

leaving are they republican on that field or are they democrat he? didn't know who it was. somebody who was going to watch the practice. he said are there republicans on there sure enough he went and did his thick. pete: really, that list is conservative republicans who have he believes are obstructionists to the things that he believes as a left wing democrat who is baptized in those ideas. that doesn't mean the democrats are to blame. this guy is his own actor. this was a political move, unfortunately. todd: elevated from i don't like x. i don't like y. when you have a hit list. this is basically a targeted assassination attempt. if those individuals weren't there, the capitol police, who know what is that gentleman might have done on that scene and potentially on his way to the capitol. abby: one the individuals on the list trent franks he was on the story last night. he said this was a premeditated attack. this is what he said. >> there are certainly many indications now that the shooter was premeditated in

his actions. >> i have been notified that there is an investigation and that, yes, that i might be involved in that investigation but, you know, i certain live can't go any further than that. todd: this is a guy who was targeted, again, the fbi is saying we shouldn't call it a hit list. maybe it wasn't a hit list. these are names. clearly a focus on republicans and these members at that baseball field. abby: to your point, todd, have you goat to be thankful because it could have been worse when you think about the people on that field and luckily there was security there to protect them. and you think about everyone is okay except for the shooter. pete: in critical condition right now stabilized. the internal bleeding has stopped. listen, this is still a touch and go situation for him. todd: now this begs the question what is next? what chilling effect does this incident have and this potential list. we are not calling it a hit list yet. what does this chilling effect mean.

scott perry has postponed town hall for today after this week's shooting. some are wondering do these need to be cancelled all together? again, i am not in the position of these representatives. it's easy for me to say sitting here on this couch. i just think they win. the bad people win if you start canceling these things. my life right here on this couch is not in danger. pete: you could be more prudent about it. these town halls can get heated. we play video on this show all the time. people screaming at congressman and screaming back. there is ways to secure that through, you know, metal detectors, plain clothes security officers. have you to be prudent about it and don't leave yourself out there hanging. abby: somewhat balance between making sure people are safe but also giving people access to the people that represent them? that is going to be a continue to be a tough balance we find in this country. representative barletta is one who floated the idea of canceling these town halls. this is what he said. >> absolutely. there is no question. i have been at the end of some of those town halls where the

police had to carry people out and you get concerned not only for your own safety but for the safety of the people who are there who actually come to be heard. even if you have an opposing opinion. that's great. that's what these events are for. but there is a level, you know, when people cross a line to actually inciting other people. and when individual safety becomes an issue, then the purpose of doing it is lost. pete: brief correction. i believe he is pennsylvania congressman not arizona congressman. doesn't matter where you are from. if you are stepping into a town hall you definitely have that concern today that shouldn't exist. we live in a free society. in a free society have you got have access. todd, i agree with you, we shouldn't have representatives canceling these things. can you take a different approach. armed citizens protecting themselves, there is a reason we have a second amendment. if you are able to arm and

to representative scalise. our prayers go out to representative scalise and his family. it's policy that divides us. after we have the absolute disagreement on policy. we can literally sit down and have dinner together and so we are friends. and it was one of us. we are all members of congress who was injured, who was shot in an horrific accident -- not accident, assassination attempt. what you saw at second base would be expected. friends standing with other friends. it's policy that divides us. abby: it's standard protocol that all congressman really don't have security when they travel anywhere. it was very lucky that had you scalise with his two men there on the field to protect them. do you think so that we should at least talk about our representatives being able to protect themselves or harm themselves? should anything change? >> yeah. abby, none of us have protection other than the leaders. that would be the speaker, the majority leader, and the whip. and then the other side the leader and whip. the rest of you was do not have security.

we are not asking for it. you know, myself, as i have stated, i have a carry permit. and, you know, second amendment, i can carry and will be carrying when i'm back in my district. but, you are right, in d.c. we can't. i can just tell you i am working with the nra on some legislation that might be able to make common sense and to assist members of congress and their staff in being able to protect themselves. so i'm going to be, you know, again, working with the nra on something moving forward. todd: let's get to this quote in op-ed where it is by knife, vehicle, or gun. america is witnesses carnage. i will employ my second amendment right and carry a conceal firearm when appropriate as i travel my district. talk about that. do you think this is something that every single one of your colleagues needs to do? >> well, we will each make our own decisions. today when i'm traveling up to one of my counties i'm going

seven navy sailors are missing and at least five 2. the commander of the uss fitzgerald brice vin son is among the injured here. officials say he was air lifted to nearby naval hospital. they air lifted two other sailors as of right now the navy says all three are

awake but they will remain under observation for the foreseeable future. the ship collided with a merchant vessel about 60 nautical miles off the coast of japan. suffering damage above and below the water line and causing flooding in parts of the ship. the navy says that merchant vessel had philippine flags. this all happened yesterday around 2:30 a.m. logical time. uss fitzgerald is a guided missile destroy and carries tomahawk crew cruise missiles. once it gets to land. the navy says it will be able to figure out the extent of the damage here. the next big question is how could this happen in the cause of the collision is still unknown. one thing pretty unknown is the japanese coast guard is now the lead when it comes to searching for these seven missing sailors. clayton, be ay, todd? abby: all right, alisyn barber, thank you so much. hoping for the best there other headlines we are following this morning. protests erupting after a police officer is acquitted

he pete woke back. rod rosenstein blasting sources as another leak comes from the special counsel probe. americans should exercise caution before accepting any -- as true any stories attributed to anonymous officials. americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations. abby: what should happen with the investigation going forward. here is greg jarrett. strong words coming from rosenstein there when he is saying, looking, even "the washington post have you got to be very careful. >> he was so cryptical in the way he issued that statement and mysterious. maybe he means there is no obstruction of justice investigation. abby: what do you think he meant? >> i don't know. here is what i do know is that rosenstein has a serious, in fact double conflict of interest and should long ago have recused himself. think about what he -- his role is.

he is actually judge and prosecutor and witness all rolled into one. and the code of professional responsibility says you can't do that. i mean, that's the kind of stuff over which lawyers get disbarred. pete: have you argued that mueller himself is conflicted and here have you got comey resigning and then leaking through -- or being pushed out and then leaking this memo to get a special prosecutor. >> who is his good friend. pete: at what point does this start to look like open ini question session by mueller than focused investigation. >> well, it's horrifying because mueller is blatantly violating the special counsel law which says if you have a personal relationship with a witness central to the case, james comey, you shall not serve. and that describes what a personal relationship is. literally in the statute it said it's either a relative, or a close friend. well, that's the definition of comey and mueller. long-time partners, allies,

confidantes. a mentor, protege relationship. it's incomprehensible to me that mueller was selected and that he accepted the position. the conflict of interest is flagrant. abby: at what point do you question the integrity of this whole investigation? >> i question it now with mueller at the helm and rosenstein as his boss. rosenstein is a key witness in the case if there is an obstruction investigation because he, the memo that formed the basis for the president's firing of comey and had conversations with the president. you know, so, think about it, is mueller supposed to be now judging the conduct of his own boss who is a witness in the case? pete: greg, what does president trump do here you have some voices saying got to get rid of mueller. you should ask the deputy attorney general to do. so others saying if you do that you just kick the dust

japanese aircraft as well as surface vessels. the commander of the uss fitzgerald bryce vinson is among the injured. officials say he was airlifted to a nearby naval hospital. they air lifted two other sailors. as of right now the navy says all three are awake but they will remain under observation until further notice. the ship collided with the merchant vessel about 60 nautical miles off the coast of japan, suffering damage above and below the water line and causing flooding in parts of the ship. the navy says that merchant vessel has philippine flags. this all happened yesterday around 2:30 a.m. local time. the uss fitzgerald is a guided missile destroyer and carries tomahawk crews missiles. once it gets over to land and we understand it's made its way there now, the navy says it will be able to figure out the extent of the damage here. of course, the next big question is how could this happen? the ship, the us ship was hit on the right or star board side.

field to one of the congressman baseball field that morning are those republicans or democrats on the field? we want to bring in governor mike huckabee for more. governor, good to have you with us. >> thanks. great to be with you. and what a sobering reality about this shooter who now we clearly know. this was not some random act of violence. this guy was very thoughtful and planned. he virtually camped out by that ymca next to the ball field for weeks. he had a list. this was a dargted seeks assassination. but can i step this back a second? this is a bigger issue. this is an attempt to overthrow the elected government. and i don't want people to lose sight of the fact that what we're seeing is not necessarily an organized attempt, but a widespread attempt by people who hate the results of the election, who want to overturn it not by another election, but by violent means, by any means possible because they reject the election. folks, this is an absolute

threat to our democracy. forget the russians. forget the fact that the people are saying the russians tried to interfere with our democracy. they tried. there is no evidence that they changed one single vote but what we're seeing now is not a threat from the russians but the radicals. and we need to be a lot more afraid of the radicals who are trying to overturn a duly elected congress and president than we are about russians who may have attempted to do something and influence the election but there is no evidence yet of it. pete: strong statement for sure. the democratic party has moved left and left and left. whether they lose or win to barack obama. the progressives have gained more power in that party. the guy who pulled the trigger is the only one who pulled the trigger on that attack but the rhetoric of resist, impeach, take to the streets has affected the lexicon of the left. county leadership of that party, where is the leadership and can they pull them back

from this precedent? >> i really don't know. i would like to think that some of them would be more vocal in not just denying the veracity of this as a valuable tool. i would like to see them outright say, guys, this is not the way that we change things we don't like in our government. we have an election coming up in 2018. you want to change it? go out and get some new members of congress in the senate. four years, you know, we have a presidential election. can you change it then. but we don't do it in the meantime. and when i see all of these special prosecutors and then the radical attempts on the streets, a lot of people are getting, you know, the heck beat out of them because they are wearing a trump shirt. sometimes it's more subtle. it's like they don't get their picture in the school yearbook. again, think about what this is doing. this is bullying. it's terrorism. because when you scare people from wearing a shirt they want to wear, putting a flag on their car, wearing a badge or going to a rally, when they are scared to do it because

they are afraid they are going to have the daylights knocked out of them by some radical leftist, then they have succeeded in changing the behavior of people in a free society. this is the threat to our way of life. please don't let it get lost on that. pete: absolutely. another parity of this is that it is the investigation has been ongoing of so-called russian interference in the election which then turned into collusion which now is turning into obstruction. some people feel like the new special counsel bob mueller is not only conflicted but inquisition with wide open investigation ultimately trying to build and make a case for some are saying impeachment. mark levin famed radio talk show host had this to say on the program. take a listen to it? >> there is no reason to have a special counsel. it's something the democrats want and something the republicans capitulated to. so now we have this roving prosecutor whose subject of investigation is whatever subject he decides to investigate.

is that what constitutional government is about, ladies and gentlemen? we now have a federal independent of every branch of the federal government who has as his objective to take down the president of the united states. mr. mueller may be investigating individuals, but his purpose are being unleashed against the president of the united states is to make the case for impeachment, not indictment. this is very, very important to understand. pete: do you agree, governor? >> well, i do agree. i think that if you look at this carefully, what we're doing by the special prosecutor and the wide scope and the fact that we're hiring dozens of lawyers who, by the way have contributed tens of thousands of dollars to democrat candidates and that's very concerning. so there may be an immediate conflict. it's apparent that this investigation is all focused on the trump administration and the personnel, many of

whom were not even government employees at the time that they're being investigated. so here's the question. are we sending six fire trucks to put out flickering flame of a candle when, in fact, there are some raging fires that were never addressed like the abuses of the irs, hillary's deleted emails, the 20% of our uranium that was sold off to the russians. >> the selling of influence for contributions to the clinton foundation. i mean, where was the outrage for all of that? i didn't remember it and now this is all based on what even prominent democrats have said there is no shred of evidence that there was a connection between the president as candidate or as president and the russians, none. so why are we doing this? and to what end? to what purpose? i mean, i think americans ought to truly be alarmed. pete: one thing liberals are excited about it seems is this fascination with mike pence and could this be a sort of plan by mike pence to try and

told her boyfriend to kill himself in texts found guilty in manslaughter now facing up to 20 years in prison. obviously this is a huge story. abby: horrible, horrible story. girl, i believe is now 20. she faces 20 years in prison. as the story goes and i don't know all the nuts and bolts of it but told this kid to kill himself and to put himself in the car. i guess she was there at the scene.

he gets out of the car. and she says get back in. watches him die. the question is she didn't actually kill him. but she obviously told him to kill himself and didn't do anything when he was dying. a lot of legal questions. guy in with the emotions. if this was child who was killed i would want whoever did that, whoever told them to kill himself i would want them in prison for their entire life that's where i come in as a woman. pete: teenagers texting thousands of texts and phone calls. i don't know if she had been at the scene or not. he was fumigating his own car. got out. he texted her and told her. she said get back in the car. apparently heard him -- his last gasp in the car. that's a terrible thing to hear from teenagers and who knows the emotions involved. have you got a legal background, todd. i don't know. manslaughter. is this typical? because usually it's a physical action of manslaughter. not words like get back in the car. abby: she was also so young.

todd: keep in mind courts can use manslaughter as catchall. not murder. certain elements to be met. none of those elements are met here. if somebody dies and some sort of causality that you can point, to manslaughter is that catchall. i know you are not going to want to hear this because i know you are very anti-courts making law. in the law when you sort of sit there and write a legal brief, have you two or things you can more or less go to. case precedent and have you statute. okay? courts make law. that's what court precedent is so, yes, we really haven't touched upon this kind of topic. abby: i was going to say what is the precedent. todd: texts are so law. this isn't something you are going to have case law back in the 1800s on. what the lawyers and judge will do is try to fit old law to new technology and that's where we get our current law, current precedent out of. and then it will be put into statute. pete: she now faces up to 20 years. we have probably all said as a teenager i hope you kill yourself. or i hope this person gets hit

by car. that's not murder or manslaughter. that's a might have been that you say irresponsibly. in this case it was very direct and does that matter in the case of a court? abby: we are also living in different times. when we were growing up we didn't have social media. now i have little sisters that are both in middle school and high school. i see. so things la that are written, bullying that goes on. any parent knows that it has gotten so out of control. we are living in different times. the legality that we're having to deal with unprecedented moments what do you do? pete: in the past you had to pass a note. you would say can i talk to so and so? now it's direct text messaging, immediately erased and snapchat. no doubt the parents face a whole set. abby: public shaming on facebook. pete: that's why this has caught on so -- it's gotten so much interest. people are saying hey, how why fall in on this? abby: what do you think? as we're talking about, this i'm sure there are a lot of emotions out there that have been following the story.

pete: that was our own greg jarrett earlier in the program. now we will bring in jonathan turley law proposal at. you heard greg jarrett there. there is a lot of folks calling into question the independence of bob mueller. what do you say on that? >> well, first of all, i said it earlier that i did not think that mueller was a good choice. i thought that rosenstein used poor judgment, both mueller and comey have a long standing professional relationship. they are both part of the lower and legacy of the justice department stemming from this shared historical moment they had at the hospital bedside of john ashcroft. they are tied by that moment by long service. ethics rules. interpret to mean professional relationships are conflicts in that sense. i don't think that rosenstein would view it that way. i don't think the doj. we what concerns bemueller is the same thing that concerns me about rosenstein.

i have said it before that rosenstein needs to recuse himself. i don't see any gray area there. he is not just a witness. he is perhaps the witness on the on destruction issue. and the irony is that this leak from the special counsel. they are now looking at -- donald trump as a target of obstruction. seem calculated to protect mueller. in doing so they undercut rosenstein because he now would be at the top of that witness list. but mueller may have the same problem. not because of professional relationship with comey, which i think is troubling, but mueller reportedly met with trump the day before his appointment to interview for the fbi job. now, it strikes me as odd if he sat down with the president to replace comey and the president didn't say anything as to why he fired comey. or why he felt the need to have a new fbi director.

that makes mueller himself a potential witness. abby: have you members, some on the left who as you pointed out they are really hoping that out of this investigation comes some obstruction of justice, at least to an impeachment. so ken starr was speaking out about this on thursday. former independent counsel who investigated you remember under the clinton years knows all too well about all of this. and he says as far as he knows now, everything he has seen, there has been no obstruction of justice. here is what he says. >> obstruction of justice is really a very hard crime to make out. it's not just you want the investigation to go away, you suggest that the investigation goes away. have you got to take really affirmative action. pete: to be clear we are not certain that's ken starr. >> we are going to correct that if that is false. words from somebody who know as lot of what he speaks. >> i want to know what happened to ken starr's hair.

ken starr and i actually were in court together in the clinton impeachment because i represented the former attorney generals in that fight. i agree with him. i have said for a while now that people are getting ahead of their skies on obstruction. this is not easy to prove. i have never seen a case, ever, prosecuted on this type of evidence. it doesn't mean that there shouldn't be an investigation. it doesn't mean that a case cannot be made, but they are a long shot from it right now. i think what what we are going to have is clearly a special counsel investigation looking at obstruction. the question is who is going to do it? i think it's incumbent upon mueller to answer these questions. as to did he have a discussion about comey in the oval office, if he did, i would be floored that he would not only offered the special counsel position but accepted it. todd: jonathan, as you know, professional responsibility is the topic. nobody in law school pays attention to it like a thrown away subject.

216 to go. >> um-huh. abby: what is this about? >> yeah. this is actually had been happening to me for months. i have received maybe not some quite of this tenure and it was particularly more on setting when it came within an hour or so after this terrible news came on congressman scalise and the other capitol police and the staff that were shot. really terrible situation. but it just made it seem more like violence turned auto into reality. a violent rhetoric turned into reality. for me i have been receiving these for months, of course everything we turn over to the capitol police. but we got nervous. we said we have been sort of taking it not as seriously just because it was a threat. and now we have to look into making sure that we have a protocol in place for dealing with the safety of all of us. not just me and my staff. but my constituents, who i meet with hundreds of them on a weekly basis in my office here. abby: just to give people a sense. here is the email sent to you, one down, 216 to go. did you not expect this when you take away ordinary

people's very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your only lives are forget. certainly your souls and more rattle were long lost before. good riddance. that is just horrible, horrible. pete: also what they wrote about your son. when i read that that sickened me. explain a little bit more about that. >> i put out a memorial day message. and my son-in-law who is actually naval academy graduate and now serving as first lieutenant in the marine corps. i know you discuss that sometimes. i love the naval academy. great to be a usna parent. i put out a memorial day message. we have some veterans in my community. and just to wish them all well. and i received a notice on facebook that said i hope your son comes back bagged. and it was so disturbing. i just couldn't believe anyone would say that and then he doubled down. i rode in the rolling thunder, the motorcycle ride. had a great opportunity to do that to support the pows and the mia and amazing event at the at that point toll with

rex tillerson, by the way, ourselves. and continued i hope you break your neck. and don't survive rolling thunder. these kind of things are just unacceptable. we have seen a normalization of this type of behavior. and i just unfortunately we need to be vigilant now. peter: we certainly thank your son for his service. you will be heading back to your district and others over the next weeks and months for town halls. >> yes. pete: one congressman scott perry has postponed his town hall for today after the shooting. some wonder whether she should all together. do you take a prudent pressure or stand up and say we are not going to be threatened and back down. where do you stand on that. >> issue of town halls something started by the tea party. i love tone gauge with my constituents. i'm an attorney. i have run as an independent republican. and it's important that we get to our constituents and speak with them and hear their views every way we can the new town halcyon september though has turned into somewhat of an ambush against conservative members.

against members who are voted for the american healthcare act for example trying to help middle class constituents who lost their healthcare. it's become just a shouting match. and almost jerry springer like atmosphere where we are not talking about issues and engaging with the member of congress. it's almost like they are use offing the member of congress and the position to advance their views and shout down the views of a lot of other people. whether they are senior citizens or veterans or other people that have genuine concerns about the fact that they have issues as well. so, i love the concept of a town hall. we have been doing them. we are doing another tele town hall. meeting with constituents in small groups, just to ensure the safety of our constituents. this is a point where the dialogue has reached a level where we are not talking about issues. and we certainly disagree on how policy forums. and we have been doing a lot on a bipartisan basis. you know, i just attended the congressional baseball game with my colleague congressman brad schneider and he is a democrat from illinois.

we co-sponsor bills. we find common ground as freshman we signed a commitment to civility to stand and change the dialogue to tone it down, to talk about exchanging ideas and finding common ground. and that's something that we're not seeing the media reporting. i'm grateful that you are out there reporting. this because the general consensus is that we don't get along. that's actually note the case. pete: that may be the case on personal level. the question will be whether nancy pelosi and the like ever stop resisting and actually start coming to the table. a whole different story. abby: that's more on policy than anything else i. abby: thank you your son for his service. two brothers in the navy so my mom would relate to everything you just said. >> and thank you for them. it's a wonderful experience. pete: go army, congresswoman. >> oh, go navy. pete: settled in december. >> thank you. abby: hospital officials now confirming republican steve scalise does remain in critical condition but his vital signs have stabilized.

sailors after a u.s. warship crashes into a cargo ship off the coast of japan. todd: a horrible story. the badly damaged destroyer towed back to japanese base this morning. pete ellison barber is live in washington, d.c. >> seven navy sailors are missing and at least five are injured. the u.s. navy's seventh fleet says search and rescue efforts are underway involving u.s. and japanese aircraft.

they are searching in the air and on the water. the commander of the uss fitzgerald is among the injured. officials say he was airlifted to a naval hospital. all three are reportedly awake but will remain under observation until further notice. the uss fitzgerald is a guided missile destroyer. the seventh fleet posted this video about an hour ago. it shows the fitz heading back to japanese base. the ship collided with a philippine merchant vessel 56 nautical miles off the coast of japan suffering damage above and below the water line. that merchant vessel his the uss vessel on right or star board side causing flooding in parts of the ship including two areas where sailors typically sleep. the cause of the collision is unknown. the commander of the us pacific fleet says the sailors are their priority. in a statement admiral scott swift said quote: right now

i think we've got to treat our elected officials right now as a precious commodity to be protected against nut jobs. abby: it's a tough balance, and i see what pete's saying and what you're saying. i think we're continuing to try to find that balance of keeping our officials safe but also giving them that access to the people that they serve that you never want to lose that in this country. that's what a democracy is. that's what freedom is. so you have to wait and continue to find that right balance. pete: and it's a discussion that's not going away any time soon. however, let's switch to a different topic. president trump in florida discussing his cuban policy. from when the president was in miami. >> effective immediately, i am canceling the last administration's completely one-sided deal with cuba. we will not lift sanctions or the cuban regime until all political prisoners are free. freedom of assembly are

promise over dacka, the dreamers. quoting trump keeps dacka alive, breaks campaign promise. all about the headlines. >> but dhs now hitting back saying not so fast. the program still under review. here to break down what really happened, white house correspondent for the washington examiner sarah westwood. thank you for being here. pete: what happened? >> well, president trump did send one of president obama's immigration orders that would have shielded the parents of dreamers from deportation. that's an order that never went into effect. it was immediately challenged in court by 26 states. and so it's no surprise that president trump resented that. it wasn't that popular to begin with. daca, it shows children who were brought here illegally, a tricky question politically because you are dealing with kids in this instance and president trump said we have to approach this order with compassion.

so even though dhs said that this you're right that some media outlets jumped that president trump was renewing it indefinitely. pete: and also if you came here illegally as a parent and had a child, president trump called them anchor babies. we have babies here in the studio as well that we'll be hearing from in a little bit. that doesn't shield you from deportation if you as a parent are still here illegally; right? that's what it's saying. >> right. well, this -- that was the intention of the obama administration's order. >> it's to shield those people. >> but it never went in effect. it wasn't never active. and now these parents of these children can be deported, this program never existed for all intents and purposes because it was tied up in court for so long because so many states attorney general, 26 of them thought that it overextended the president's executive

authority to in fact a law that should have gone through congress. pete: so how does this happen? this is literally facts. this is reporting. this is kind of what journalists need to focus on, and they completely missed the key letter. p versus c. >> right. i think that, you know, the media and some democrats have been eager to catch president trump flip-flopping on some of his campaign promises. daca is one that he indicated early on that he wasn't necessarily going to repeal, and that is granted a reversal of what he said in the campaign. but there are ways of him to walk the line without completely scrapping like he did parents of childhood immigrants program. for instance, he could just phase out the work permits that daca grants to children, and that would slowly wipe it down without ripping away. there are ways for him to walk a middle ground on this, and that's why the administration is still reviewing it.

pete: all right. welcome back. there's a teen who convinced her boyfriend to kill himself. this is a story that i cannot wrap my head around. we'll get to the law part in a second. but as a human, how have we gotten to this point in society? abby: and the girl was there with him, she was not. this was through text messages and calls saying you should kill yourself and apparently he got out of the car, and he got back in. i don't know if that was a text or call. but either way, it's a horrific, horrific story. and this highlights the environment we live in with bullying and social media and these things. and as a legal perspective, how do you handle these things? pete: yeah, it's a tragic story. we covered it earlier on the show. we asked for your e-mails about it because you have the law, the technology, she wasn't physically present but said get back in the car as he

was suffocating himself with carbon monoxide poisoning. we wanted to know how you would look at this particular situation. barbara said this young man had free will. he did not have to listen to her. abby: judy says the punishment does not fit the crime because this woman now 20 years old is getting 20 years in prison. pete: and they were 16 year oldish when it happened. >> she had the opportunity to prevent an entire family's years of grief. abby: that's what i keep thinking of is the family. if you are the parent of this child. it's horrible to think about. >> and william e-mailed taking a twist on this. i bet she's wishing james comey was her judge. no reasonable prosecutor would have prosecuted her. after i read her actions, i was waiting to hear something to that effect. obviously, you don't want to mix politics with this, and i'm sure james comey is a good prosecutor. but the question you have to -- was it obstruction of justice with the president? he said i hope you let my flynn go?

that's different from saying you will let my flynn go. if you were to say, hey, i hope you get hit by a bus todd, but if i said go walk out on the street, and i'm going to drive the bus. and that's the case where get back in the car where she knew he would die. >> and we are expanding the definition of what manslaughter is because oftentimes when you want to do justice, manslaughter can be, can be a catch-all for some courts. so we'll see what's happening. pete: tough, tough story. abby: horrible story. you just don't ever want to see that. abby: now to some other headlines. a desperate search for sailors as a ship collides with a ship off the coast of japan. at least five are injured, including the ship's commander who was flown to a naval hospital. three are reportedly awake but will remain under observation. the cause of this collision is still unknown. keep a close eye on that.

and hospital officials scalise remains in critical condition. has undergone two surgeries already and will require additional operations after receiving major gunshot damage from his wound. >> i would say that when he arrived, he was in critical condition with an eminent risk of death. abby: wow. well, three other people were shot when james hopkins fired three rounds at baseball practice early wednesday morning. and republican boiling over on stage. two protesters interrupting new york's performance of julia cesar last night that depicts the murder of donald trump. watch. >> political violence. this is unacceptable. you cannot -- >> ladies and gentlemen, we're going to -- >> you are insighting terrorists.

pete: we are back with a fox news alert and a very tragic one. at least four american soldiers we have just learned have been shot and killed in a apparent insider attack by an afghan soldier in northern afghanistan. military officials says it happened at a base in afghanistan. the u.s. military in kabul says it's aware of the attack, and this comes just a week after another insider attack in which three army rangers were killed by an afghan soldier in eastern afghanistan. and, guys, unfortunately, that has been too common of a tactic when i was in afghanistan inform 2011, 2012. you're seeing it more because the taliban has infiltrated a lot of security forces. yet, we have brave men and women out there training them in a vulnerable position. abby: it's just heartbreaking. and like you were saying, you have to train forth because you don't know if anything could happen. >> at any moment if someone you're training turns their

gun on you, especially that partner sees you heading for the exits and the taliban is gaining strength, it could become a dicey dynamic. we forget about that. every american does as we go about our lives about an. there are guys doing dirty work for us in difficult places. we certainly honor those today. >> and just the combat wasn't enough. you have to worry every single thing while you're out there. abby: thinking about their family this morning. pete: yes. abby: president trump promised to put americans back to work, and now he's putting his word to action. pete: president trump just signed an executive order that will open up more job-training programs and apprenticeships. you've heard that word before. the folks on the intelligence report on fox business network. trish regan. welcome, trish. >> my pleasure. pete: i know he's getting push back from nancy pelosi saying this is just going to get the rich, richer. trish: we have lot of jobs available in our economy but

we don't have people with the right skill sets to fill them. i know for myself, apprenticeships are important both in television and the financial sector. no matter what sphere you're in, no matter what sector you're in, you benefit from learning on the job through pianistships or internships. the idea that you don't all need a four-year college education. for some people getting straight to the workforce and doing two years or internship, everyone is going to find their own route. but finding experts and different divisions, that's what's going to make this country great. >> i think that's a really important part of this; right? that we overlook. it has been part of our culture to just assume you go straight to college. and the problem is these kids are going straight to college at a young age without really an understanding or an appreciation for why they're there. they're taking on a ton of debt and then the next thing you know, they're lucky to get a job as a starbucks barista. this is a real problem.

you look overseas to europe, for example, and not that we want to emulate europe in terms of their job market, but this has been an area they've been successful in. apprenticeships because people go and there are different tracks and not everybody has to go to the four-year education and get the master's degree or the ph.d. a lot of people are able to earn very successful livingston through other kinds of work. pete: absolutely. i mean, my liberal arts degree is as effective as this piece of paper. and the lights don't work and the plumbing breaks, and then i have to pay somebody. i mean, who cares. if the lights don't work and the water doesn't work, i have to call an expert and pay $150 an hour for them to fix it. there's a lot of real money in this and a lot of expertise and skill. trish: but what happened to us that we no longer value that? you have to go for the four-year education for the liberal arts degree and the guy who fixes the plumbing

when that goes out. >> we used to value that more. i can't build anything with my hands, and i wish i could. and i respect people who do. carpenters, all the folks that do that. we need more of that if we're going to grow our economy. >> and to that point, listen to this. our family plumber growing up owned the building where my dad's cardiologist was. trish: so we have to think of different careers for people. i talked to a lot of tech executives about this. google, for example, has a lot of openings for engineers. they don't have people -- they can't hire anyone with engineering skills. >> and are you don't want to go outside of our country to hire people like we've been doing like india that actually take this seriously and give people the skill sets and then send them here. no, we need our own people to be able to do that. i think it's brilliant and what this country needs. trish: how about this? instead of the liberal arts degree, we offer an incentive for people to go study things like engineering and nursing,

and we start to close some of these gaps that way. i mean, there's a lot of different creative approaches we can take. i think this is one of them. pete: talking to folks at the white house, there's also groups like vets coming home who pulled triggers in a foreign battlefield but give them the skill-based training. abby: and no one better than our military to do that. pete: yeah, they're thinking that way. that's how this white house is thinking. let's use them as assets. trish: i think it's good for everyone and absolutely apprenticeships should be part of our culture. for sure. pete: awesome insight, trish. trish: thank you and congratulations. abby: i'm going to need your help, trish. you have some girls at home. trish: you're going to have a wonderful adventure, abby. congratulations. pete: emphasis on the word adventure; right? well, up next, we've had ribs and brisket and wings. but rick is coming up, he'll be out there next new bike?
