call it a matter. emails that went back and forth and the senate judiciary committee says we want those documents an we want to get some answers and you put this part of it together as we were talking about what did the obama administration to push back against putin. this russia investigation has focused on the trump investigation. they are the ones that have to deal with the allegations that there was collusion. so far no evidence that there was collusion but they're dealing with that, but now my point is that this investigation is flipping around a little bit and all of a sudden on two different tracks, loretta lynch and president obama, what did they do last year? abby: you wonder what the coverage is going to be about those questions, about the obama years, about the attorney general loretta lynch investigation. my sense is you're not going to get the same coverage. take a look at this, for example, we dug up facts, our wonderful producers, abc last night, 20 second, nbc news no coverage at all, cbs, no coverage at all. none, zero.

they going to care that we no longer are able to see the press briefings, if you think about the questions that are asked. if the american people ask questions, they wouldn't be the questions that are asked. >> there's some transparency issues where the white house has been bad. they don't release visitor logs which is a helpful way of who has access to the president and the white house. but the media have so spoiled their relationship with the american public that i don't think people care when there are access issues or problems and so what would be really in everybody's best interest to have a little bit more balance, calm, fairness in how we are reporting on this presidency so that american people do understand the need to have a good relationship with the press and the white house. at this point, if it's a war between the press and the white house, the press is on the bad side because people don't care anymore. >> i suspect the war is going to continue longer. they've been fired up on both sides. abby: mollie, good to have you.

astute leader, usually they go after the most effective leaders, these districts are hard districts to win. i think i'm worth the trouble. abby: but is she really worth all of the trouble, here to debate former strategic director for hillary clinton and radio talk show host. good morning to both of you. tammy, you heard there, she's flattered but should she be concerned. there are a number of reports out that you have house members, democratic house members that have been meeting privately concerned about their own leadership? >> yes, many of them have been speaking publicly as well. she was challenged last year in november and won and yet the individuals, many of them who voted for her in november have come out and said, we are changing our position. and you know what the difference is, obviously she's had a problem and the democrats had a problem for the last year, losing governors' mansions, et

cetera. the leader is partly responsible for the message but what happened is georgia, the reason georgia was different was because the republicans ran ossoff, they attached him to her and it worked. there was a big response to that. nancy pelosi has been good at raising money. ossoff24000000 bucks a lot from her area, san francisco in northern california but their finding also clearly that money is not enough, that the message that the direction of the party matters and she's a part of that or at least that position is a part of that. abby: adrienne, you have the midterms coming up, huge elections for both republicans and democrats, i'm sure it's on your mind on the fact that democrats have to start winning races. when you think of nancy pelosi stha the leader you want leading the party? >> first of all, nancy pelosi is one of the most effective democratic leaders that we've ever had in the party. to your point, it's very important that we recite as

democrats candidates who fit the profile in the district. i work for rahm emmanuel during the 2005-2006 when democrats took back the house and one of the things we did effectively is we recruited conservative democrats who fit the profile of the districts and that's how we took back the house and that's how we want some of the red and purple districts in the country. as we rebelled as a party it's very important that we recruit candidates this fit the profiles in the districts so we can take back the house. >> rebuild the party, the party has been destroyed effectively and it's more than just nancy pelosi, it's the overall messaging. pérez and ellison are part of that problem. this is a large ranging problematic dynamic for them and beyond pelosi, unless they realize that, nothing is going to change. abby: how quickly can you do that when you don't have any new faces, any new messaging within the democratic party? >> i don't think they are any part of the problem, they are actually part of the solution in

terms of rebuilding the party and getting us back on track. abby: as you have seen the reports, there's clearly concern about among member of house dental contracts that have publicly expressed concerned about nancy pelosi and leadership, clearly there's concern there. >> look, first of all, democrats need to stop complaining and focus on rebuilding and putting this resistance to work for the greater good of the party and country. look, we are a big-ten party, we have diversities and opinions and moving -- >> as long as there's an attitude that there's resistance, you're not a big tent party and you're seeing that that's not working. >> i continue disagree more. >> well, we will find out, keep going, girl, let's going, liberal. >> this is a great debate, ladies, we will leave it right there. thanks for being with us. abby: coming up a former attorney general now under investigation, the senate is ready to look into loretta lynch e-mail probe.

ising you up for success in the long-term is more palatable. i don't know how that prepared him for this show, if he were on the couch he would have a reason. >> that does bring you to the pay, it's not a high-paying job. >> so crucial that you mention that, one of the other things that you go into is time management. the summer that i was working as a waiter that you saw, by the way it's not me, that's joe, very confusing, but i was doing that and working at my dad's office and i was contemplating and doing an internship at a place over in the city i'm not going to say where, another tv station and that's the crucial part of time management that you have to do. there's joe and the owner of the restaurant. i'm no where in the picture. summer of '97.

problem is a derelict, obama administration that didn't tell anybody that could have taken safeguard to try to prevent it. here is the fact, nothing happened that affected the election. but when the election was over, they needed a way to explain how in the world did we lose. so that's why this narrative has been invented and it is really, i think, des graceful -- disgraceful and it's the obama administration who if they knew it and didn't take any action other than the president saying cut it out, then that is irresponsible. >> do you think they were sitting on it because to your point the obama white house thought this might be out there but hillary is going to win anyway so let's keep it quiet, can you back that up, do you think that's what they were doing? >> they had no thoughts that

incident governor, your thoughts on this? >> this is you politics gets silly, the average american is not so stupid to honestly think that either of the parties, let's be fair, democrats don't want to kill anybody, they don't design to say, that will kill off republicans, they just don't and republicans don't design bills that will kill off americans, they just don't, when rhetoric goes to that level, i think it makes the parties look silly, it sort of reveals they don't have an argument, they can't discuss the merits of a piece of legislation or proposal so they are reduced to the most childish form of political rhetoric which is to say you're a bad person, you're going to kill somebody. it's so over the top. >> mitch mcconnell's writing this bill in secret, we don't know the details, governor, we don't know what's in the bill. then he release it is bill within ten minutes, we know what's in the bill, it's going to kill people. they didn't even read the bill and they had talking point

already. we don't know what's in the bill and then it's going to kill people, now we know everything in that bill. >> amazing thing was chuck schumer carefully crafted written speech that he delivered within minutes of the release before he would have had time to read the 142-page bill but he already had -- i think the guy is claire boyant because the only explanation that you have is chuck schumer is clairboyant or he's spying on the republicans and he was able to get advanced copy and hours before practiced thoughtful speech saying how the republicans were out to kill people. it's just absurd. political theater and the curtain needs to come down on this theater because the play is getting tiresome. >> you go way back to the clint opens, you know the clintons, is this just hillary clinton scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point months after she lost the election? >> i think hillary has been able to blame everyone in america for

beautiful thing if we could get together as two parties that love our country and come up with that great health care and great tax deal for our people and tax reform. and infrastructure and other things. lee: absolutely where he shines, even democrats gave it a c which suggests to me that we have more than a resist movement. there are democrats that say, let's do this. abby: let's actually work together. who doesn't want that? lee: i can't imagine. ed: a lot of people in the mainstream media blew that off, the polls are showing that there are not silent voters. take a look at this new poll, harvard harris poll on president's job approval, 48% approve, 52% disapprove. cnn has a poll about job

approval ratings suggesting that they're at a new low. does this matter this early in the presidency? have people gotten enough measure of him or do they need a little bit more time to really make sense about how this first year is going? lee: i think that donald trump throughout the whole campaign whether it was primary or general election underperformed in the polls. somewhere 5 and 10 points depending on the state. it's important that we take a look at who you're talking to, you're talking to somebody who is a likely voter or average american who might not vote at all and so i think there's a lot of things going on here. i also think you have to look at the methodology. a telephone poll is very dated. when i worked with corporate clients i would never do telephone poll. i think that's why we are able to see with the dials such a different response with polling because you're measuring people visceral response. the thing is it is on a day by day basis. you can imagine if you were

polling your spouse, you might say, today he didn't do what i asked him to do, he went to the grocery store and came with all the wrong things and tomorrow he's going make a great reservation for us and i'm going to give him a better poll. it's very moment to moment. abby: it's so true. lee: the very important thing is let's see what happens with tax reform, let's see what happens with health care f he's able to drive that agenda, keep things moving, then we will see a big bump in the polls, right now it's pretty flat and i think it's the way it's going to be with him because i don't think he's really that concerned with reaching out to people who aren't necessarily his base until he start getting things done. abby: highest he'll been there is zero coverage of that poll when it came out. the silent voter that we talked about in the election, you wonder if that plays a roll in the polls, if there's such a thing of voters in the poll. lee: there's no question. there's a lot of pressure on people to say, societal pressure

was sworn in as president of the united states, there is something on the far left that went over the top because the death threats, the number of file personal attacks skyrocketed and just because they are coming in great quantity doesn't mean law enforcement and prosecutors shouldn't be pursuing them, they need to be called what they are and there are sick individuals and one took action and we need to make sure they are prosecuted so they don't take action in their own communities. >> extreme rhetoric, this health care bill should be about substance, policy, you had the threat saying republicans want to throw granny off the cliff, now elizabeth warren things the senate bill is below money, hillary clinton saying the republicans are the death party, extreme rhetoric. you can get down in the mud and throw some rhetoric back at them or republicans can get their sleeves up and get to work after making these promises, several election cycles in a row, repeal and replace obamacare. how do you block out that

nonsense and actually get the party together? it looks pretty split in terms of getting this through the senate? >> love it when the democrats have their graphics ready and minutes after the bill is introduced they have come to the conclusion -- almost laughable, they haven't even read the bill. terribly complicated situation but republicans promised to repeal and replace obamacare, it is an absolute disarray, failing the american people and because it is imploding we have to find solutions to that and that is what we are trying to do, different people have different opinions, that is how it happens in washington dc, in some way we will get it -- >> and it is not the best one. >> democrats took a long time and put out their bill and passed it in less than 24 hours, here it has the light of day, we have plenty of time to read and

>> it was pouring >> well, you look lovely this morning >> well, look who's talking. you're glowing abby: always good to have you. first off the top with i want to get your thoughts on attorney general loretta lynch now looked into by the senate judiciary committee. a lot of people wondering why w this didn't happen before. we had governor huckabee on, and there are questions with meeting on the tarmac with former president bill clinton. why wasn't this investigated earlier? we'll be talking about russia over and over and over again? >> james comey testified. remember, he had a lot of shots at president trump, but he also he had a clash with loretta lynch where she did not want to call the hillary clinton e-mail investigation an investigation, wanted to call it a matter. here's mike huckabee a little bit earlier. >> this is really the investigation that has some merit. because you have a sitting attorney general telling an fbi director don't call this an investigation. in other words, lie about it.

and remarkably, he did. what did loretta lynch talk about with bubba clinton on the tarmac in phoenix? we don't know because it was a private conversation with all the aids scrambled out. the fact that everybody was moved off that airplane except the two principles says what they were talking about was something they didn't want anybody else to ever know about. so all of these, you know, breathless democrats talking about how we've got to get to the bottom of it, good. get to the bottom of it. there's plenty to investigate. i hope they'll actually do it. abby: question is -- >> the investigation may be going in a different direction. >> firm reading how james comey after being advised by loretta lynch to call it a matter rather than investigation joked to his colleague. well, now the federal bureau of matter rather than the fbi. i think this is very important to say bad news for loretta lynch and the democrats does

not translate into good news for donald trump and the trump administration. what it does in my view is give muller a broader portfolio of things to investigate. what i am fascinated by is the question of what will loretta lynch testify to once she is sworn in under oath. i mean, my goodness. if i were her attorney, i would advise her to plead the fifth. i mean, if you're going to incriminate yourself, my goodness, don't do it in front of the senate judiciary committee unless you get a deal. abby: how much can you find? >> to me, the stuff i indicated last week, that's really nonsense. what is key, though, at the end of that sound byte you just played, what happened in that conversation when you had an open investigation, it was in the heart and the heat of that presidential campaign, and there is this highly improper meeting. i mean, if the comey trump one-on-one was improper as it was, highly improper, and most

people agreed to that, what was this meeting on the tarmac? for example, at the time if you remember contemporaneously they said they talked about their grandchildren. really? is that what you will swear to under oath under penalty of perjury? i really do believe as this russian investigation to go out, two things. one is i believe, and i think it's time for everybody to grow up and understand that there was russian meddling in the u.s. election. that really really happened. secondly, there's no evidence of collusion or illegal activity between the trump administration or campaign or transition and the russian government. but this is what i've been saying, and i say it over and over again. the danger, the peril to the president, all the president's men and women and the democrats now is perjury and the destruction of evidence or obstruction of justice.

that's what the danger -- the danger will not the crime because there probably wasn't one. but it will be the cover-up, and i think that's where general flynn is in such trouble right now. >> but there's also danger to our country trying to get things done. the latest poll russia investigation 64% say it is hurting our country. 56% say it's time to move on to other issues. 44%, lower number say we should stay focused on russia. how do you respond? >> i think that's a significant poll but also insignificant and irrelevant. there were times watergate went from 1972 to 1973, it dragged on for a couple of years there. people were sick of it until there came to be a point where as john dean described this cancer on the presidency, the cancer began to metastasize, and it looked as if richard nixon was peril. abby: yeah, but our time, the american people out there feel

that it's a sham that so much time has been wasted on russian investigation that we aren't talking at all about things that they care about. things like health care. things like immigration, like tax reform, focusing on the actions that need to get done. and we talked about the attorney general lore eight lynch and the covering of that. there are has been basically zero coverage of that and yet the russian investigation. that has covered every news channel for months and months. >> but the fact we are sick of it and impatient to move on to the next order of business, we have to understand that now you have this special counselor. now that i have a staff that many fans of the president and himself feel that this highly partisan but now they are -- they are empowered to probe. they are going to probe. this thing has its own life, and we just have to get over it. there's nothing the president can say that's going to stop the special counsel from calling witnesses, from having

very high profile things happening to have this disruption. people looking for subpoenas in their mailbox or at the door. worrisome things happening. rodger and all of these other guys, you're going to be seeing a drag here and there. and in the midst of that, you'll see loretta lynch and also former president bill clinton, and you'll also have all of these other questions because the democrats like the republicans now face the prospect of an uncontrollable independent counsel who is going to make everybody uncomfortable and, abby, you're absolutely right. we have much bigger fish to fry than this nonsense, but this is going to affect a lot of people's lives i think in a negative way. >> you have a long distinguished career of asking people questions in power. and the trump white house to decide we're not going to have a daily briefing every day like democrats and republicans have had for years.

they say this a lot. it's all gotcha questions. they're not really trying to get to the truth. they're not talking about the issues that abby is talking about in the diners, the jobs, the health care, instead it's all gotcha on james comey, so they're trying to shut that down. >> or sean spicer. >> sean spicer. smart play? dumb play? >> well, i as a republican, as a pragmatic idealist, i think i had a better idea because sean spicer has been raiding through the roof with these afternoon briefings. however contentious you are. and you're absolutely right, a lot of reporters stand up and have their moment in the sun, i would say i'm going to sell commercial spots to these briefings. i'm going to use the revenue from these commercials we sell to fund the deficit. or you want to use the money in that way? use it for that. but i think that there is no doubt that they become show. and you know better than

know, medical research like america is. it just doesn't work. look, we tried this, and i put this on republican house and senate just as much because, look, these guys have, like, seven years to pass this stuff and come up with some kind of plan that day one when trump got into office, this was his first initiative, like, look, we're going to repeal and replace this thing. he's the only one with any spine to go out and do this. house republicans passed a repeal under 60 something times under president obama. they wouldn't pass it as soon as trump was in office. >> let's take a step back. i'll let you weigh in on that if you want. i do want to bring in another element. you worked for a long time with president obama, free country. he can speak out on health care, campaign, however, there's been this unspoken rule president to stay out of the way, at least for a few months and number two, isn't a crutch for democrats and if

president obama is who they rely on, shouldn't thereby a new generation of leaders? >> i think there should be. but one with the obama presidency, and you covered it; right? was a very historic presence. he's revolutionary. just like the trump presidency has been revolutionary, and we're only 100 some odd days in. so i think the rules by both of these men, both donald trump and barack obama have been broken and now we're in a new era where the former president of the united states barack obama saying this is the key part of my agenda, and i'm going to fight like hell if you're going to try to repeal it. so i'm going to go out there and defend it, and here's what president obama does know, the former president knows is this: one in five americans are on some sort of medicaid; right? and what we see in the house and senate bill is those will be stripped with the senate bill a couple of years and the house bill tomorrow. none of these bills have

i think the president has been reaching out on a lot of issues. the reality we have to understand is that health care was never going to be bipartisan, at least in this first part of it. it's been seven years fighting republicans and democrats over it. but we have a real opportunity on tax reform, on infrastructure, and frankly, something i'm very excited about what i've seen from this administration national defense and america's role in the world. there's real opportunity to work together. but i've been seeing, for instance, with the health investigation. house members rush to the cameras to talk about this collusion with russia, even though there's no evidence, and they're supposed to be investigating in a neutral manner. so that is i think poisoning the well to real bipartisanship. abby: do you have any democrats in the house wanting to work with you and the republicans? or is it really as bad as it seems? >> no. there really are good democrats that are willing to work with us. i talk to them all the time, but you have to keep in mind, there's real political pressure. again, i don't

think they want to work with us on health care. we have to understand at least this first part is just going to be a partisan mess. but when it comes to tax reform, keep in mind, they have pretty serious pressures in their party. when i talk about the left of the democratic party, i'm not even talking about nancy pelosi anymore. she's moderate in comparison to elizabeth warren and bernie sanders who's really dragging the democratic party left and frankly threatening these folks, kind of the more moderates that want to work with us with primaries that they even so much acknowledge that president trump is rightly and legitimately elected. >> so, congressmen, you're speaking out this morning. but as i cover washington, i don't see a lot of your colleagues going to the mat for this president. they seem to be cautious. they seem to be wanting to see how this russia investigation plays out. they seem to think maybe the mainstream media narrative about chaos is somewhat true, and i don't know what the white house is going to do on any given day. am i wrong about that?

do you want some of your colleaguing standing up saying let's get tax reform done. let's get health care done because you talked about division among republicans. i'm hearing gunning among republicans over health care and frankly, i'm not hearing a lot of your colleagues speaking out on behalf of this president. >> well, that's true. and i saw -- i was listening to one of your guests carl higbie on a prior segment immediately turn and blame house republicans for something about what's going on with health care. we've got to work together as a team. now, as a republican and as a congressman, my job is to support the president whenever i can, but also be a check on the executive branch. we have to play that role, and we have to play it right. but when it is all said and done, we need to pivot to what our agenda is. and so i would encourage, frankly, even the administration and the white house to pivot always to what our agenda is. and don't get sidetracked by these other issues right now. >> all right. let's switch gears now. nebraska democratic party official saying just horrible things about congressman steve scalise. let's take a listen.
