but i am president and they are not. >> kimberly: after that, the president sent cnn into a frenzy by tweeting this video mocking the network. productively, cnn issued a strongly worded statement slamming the president. "it's a sad day when the president of the united states encourages violence against reporters. clearly sarah huckabee sanders lied when she said the president had never done so. instead of preparing for the overseas trip, his first meeting with vladimir putin, dealing with north korea and working on health care, he's instead involved in juvenile behavior below the dignity of his office." of course cnn host, commentators, and guests had a collective freak out. >> i have to stand up to this. this kind of rhetoric, this kind of behavior is going to lead to a journalist being hurt. >> and incitement to violence. he's going to get somebody

killed in the media. maybe that will stop in. >> it's not just anti-cnn. it's anti-freedom of the press, anti-freedom of speech. >> on one level, it might be clever but on the other level it's scary. scary for cnn colleagues who have already faced threats. every other president has understood that the first amendment and freedom of the press is -- and the first amendment for a reason. media is an important thing. dictators attack the media. >> is this president trying to impersonate hugo chavez, recep ergogan, vladimir putin? this is exactly the kind of language that leaders use when they are trying to undermine the press. >> kimberly: here with common sense and reaction here is former arkansas governor mike huckabee. great to have you on the program. looking forward to talking to you about this. when this happened this weekend, cnn, the rest of the liberal media started, in my opinion,

overreacting to the tweet. what do you think? >> the amazing thing is, this is a news media that told us the shakespeare in the park where donald trump was murdered on stage, that that was just theater but somehow pro wrestling is so real they are afraid of it. this is amazing. most of the wounds the press think they are experiencing are self-inflicted. i don't know of anyone who is calling for anybody in the press to be hurt. quite frankly, i don't know of anyone who wants to hurt the press. they want to laugh at them because they hold him in contempt. what's happened is a sense that the press no longer practices journalism. they practice a very targeted, hateful attempt to destroy the legitimacy of donald trump's presidency. people in america at least be on the coast, they are not stupid. they figure this out. they are laughing at the press and saying it's not journalism that we are afraid of. it's not journalism we don't

like. that's not what we are getting in america right now. >> kimberly: fact-checking, appropriate sourcing. you bring up a great point, governor. the polling backs up what you are here to say which is the public, the america people, they do not trust journalists and the american media, mainstream media in terms of the reporting or their accuracy. seems like cnn and some of the others in the liberal media really jumped at this opportunity which most normal people thought was pretty funny. wasn't something it was trying to be taken seriously. the part that disturbed me most, and i'm going to ask you about this. as a father as well, what do you make of cnn calling your daughter sarah huckabee sanders a liar since they went out of their way to try to make a personal attack against her. >> is a dad, i'm not that fond of it. as the father of somebody who i know to be a tough, professional

she's more than capable of handling it. when the playboy reporter attacked her at the white house the other day, i thought what an incredible irony. you've got someone who works for publication that's made its entire brand on exploiting women, on airbrushing survey look differently than they really are, and he is attacking the white house and saying that they are not being honest enough. i mean, how much more irony could there be? i think my daughter is handling it well. she is strong enough to deal with it. she's a strong woman. unlike some women in the media who melt any time someone comes after them, my daughter is handling it i think quite remarkably. >> kimberly: she was articulate. she had great answers. she was able to hold her own. i think being a great representative for women and women in journalism to say this is the standard of how you conduct yourself. she was unflappable. there wasn't anything she couldn't handle and she answered

the question professionally, directly, politely. that's what we need to do. have that level of discourse. she is showing that even though they are not being respectful on the other side. she has rising up to the occasion. i thought handling herself unbelievably well. let's talk about the members of the media. do you think they are being a little bit hypocritical for being outraged over this? you bring up the point about shakespeare in the play and -- shakespeare in the park, the play, and kathy griffin. they don't seem to be up in arms over that, looking to defend that to say this is outrageous. we shouldn't have this kind of behavior that is disrespectful or dangerous to the president. yet they are upset about this purity tweet he did. >> we have been in the public eye enough to know that when read a story written about us, we know whether it is true journalism forcible reason. if we read it and we don't know whether the reporter lexus or not, that is real journalism.

if, when reading the story by yourself, you say, gosh, that guy hates me for that person without really likes me. that's not journalism. because you should not have any idea whether or not that person likes you or not. can i mention one thing? i think my daughter it is handling this well because she has three preschoolers at home. she is used to dealing with petulant children who ask the same question over and over hoping to get a different answer, the one they want. so maybe that's part of the reason she's able to stay flat-footed, look those folks in the eye, and handle it. >> kimberly: having a father has been in politics, she has that kind of experience and background to know the type of things the press will sling at you, the earpieces, hit pieces, trying to go after you, personal attacks. one of the reasons why she's used to dealing with them and understands how they behave. let's talk a little bit more about cnn. again, their outrage this week and over the presidents

wrestling tweet. but they deserved to be criticized after getting stories wrong and really unrelenting, constant negative coverage of the trump administration and trying to push a false narrative with the russian collusion story where there is not one fact to support it. >> they have pushed that story. jake tapper had to admit he held up a copy of the "national enquirer" on air the didn't exist. it was fake news. they had to fire or ask for the resignations of three of the people because of improper and unethical behavior. this is a network that's in a meltdown. has nothing to do with donald trump. it has to do with their ability to be objective. the one thing we expect from the press, report the news. let us make up our minds. you don't have to lead us. we don't need that help. we are not incapable of coming to our own conclusions per because the press is trying to spoon-feed us, remember mika brzezinski, she's going to

him crazy. the american psychiatric association said in 1973 that after a lawsuit was brought by goldwater, physicians, especially psychiatrist, cannot speculate on something they see over a camera, a patient they haven't examined, someone that they have no clue about, it's unethical. it's immoral. it is stigmatizing. as a matter fact, the reason i bring it up is that the committee is supposed to be composed of psychiatrist. physicians buried what are they going to do, exactly? are they going to haul him in for an examination? you are watching over the television. he's reacting to being blasted. "washington post," "new york times," cnn always saying negative things so if he's a little defensive, what do you expect? no sign of mental instability and we can't speculate about such things. it's unethical. >> kimberly: is into the natural reaction that if someone is making false accusations and attacking you constantly that you might want to defend

>> i blame congress but look, the senate health care bill isn't that great. not a full repeal of obamacare and it's still a big government subsidy but it's a little less horrible than obamacare. they've got to pass something. the problem is the conservative wing of the g.o.p. knows the senate health care bill stings and they don't want their names attached to it. i totally understand that but if the g.o.p. can't come together and do this, they are going to get blamed for obamacare failures. obamacare is falling apart and something's got to be done. premiums have doubled since 2013. deductibles continue to go through the roof. insurers are fleeing the market and if republicans continue to be purists and they don't work together, nothing is going to get done. we are going to be stuck with obamacare and 2018 is going to be an ugly election year. they've got to compromise. they have to get some thing don done. >> kimberly: don't they want to get their jobs? maybe not, but it seems like they are the ones letting the american people down, lionel.
