7:00 pm
views. that's a dad of the year award. never miss an episode of "the five" have a great weekend everyone. "hannity" is up next. >> this is a fox news alert, president trump confronts putin. earlier today at the g20 summit in germany present from imprudent met face-to-face for the first time. and tillerson explained what was said about election hacking. >> it opened the meeting by raising concerns of the american people regarding the russian interference of the election.
7:01 pm
they had a very robust and lengthy exchange. the president pressed president putin on more than one occasion regarding russian involvement. putin denied such involvement. >> laura: shocking that he would deny that. he added that trump was pressing china over north korea. more from our fox news contributor. let's talk about this meeting with putin. this went on for a couple of hours. apparently melania trump tried to break it up after a certain point. give me some highlights and your perspective. >> i think the fact that president trump opened the meeting by talking about russian interference in our election.
7:02 pm
and pressed it several times, should be the end of the allegations of that russian collusion with the trump campaign. even more important, for the president, was that vladimir putin denied russian interference of the election. everyone was looked at the classified information says there's no doubt the russians tried to affect the election. that's something that should be unacceptable to all americans. vladimir putin looked donald trump directly in the eye and lied to him. i think that's the single most important take away coming out of the meeting. >> do you think a former kgb guy would say we did that? that's not surprising at all.
7:03 pm
this is what they do. >> >> laura: you can't trust tm at face value. you can say that about the chinese. >> that leads to the question, why do we keep trying to negotiate with them? >> laura: why do that with china? all the work that were doing on trade, stealing intellectual property, we are always willing to give china the benefit of the doubt. there is never any kind of equilibrium when it comes to the criticism. >> i would love to have the conversation about china. it's very significant for a learning experience. they can have good talks of
7:04 pm
people who lie. >> laura: let's talk about syria and the partial cease fir fire. >> i'm very nervous about this for two reasons. i think it was a mistake for president obama to actually acree ask a greater russian presence. i'm not real sure the cease-fire doesn't mostly benefit the assad regime. it gives them some calm to enable them to move forward on another front. >> laura: do you think tillerson would go along with something that's unworkable?
7:05 pm
what he said was, it looks that we can build on this conversation for future progress. >> it sounds exactly like the obama administration. we expect assad to leave, we will have a transition period. the russians it will never support assad leaving. >> laura: they both have a common goal, just not an agreed-upon route to get there. >> that's exactly the language that obama used. >> laura: let's recall what two prior presidents try to do in our relationship with russia. >> i looked the man man in the eye, i found him very straightforward and trustworthy. we had a very good dialogue.
7:06 pm
i was able to get a sense of his soul. a man committed to his country and interests of his country. i appreciate the frank dialogue. >> >> laura: there has been botched attempt to reset the relationship with russia. i walked in today knowing full well the history of russia and the difficult relationship we've had over the years. i see this is very hopeful. i'm not looking at it through rose-colored glasses. what's the alternative here?
7:07 pm
>> we always have to calculate what our national interests is. those clips that you showed are three of the most painful moments in american foreign policy. that's why i'm nervous about the syria issue. i'm nervous about what tillerson said about going to the negotiate table with north kore north korea. >> laura: i had a guy on my radio show today who suggested that we pull our troops out of japan and south korea. if it's a thermonuclear war, then it's time to pull our troops out. it's a popular thought to say
7:08 pm
that we should do that. >> it's giving china territory. were not going to avoid nuclear war by pulling out. i don't think america should be held hostage by an erratic regime by north korea or iran holding nuclear weapons. >> laura: great to see you and thanks so much. here with more reaction, fox news contributor. he just heard the conversation. this is wild. a wild week with the trumpet visit to poland. to this meeting with putin. and he's going to be meeting with chinese president tomorrow. >> and don't forget our fourth of july present from north korean president.
7:09 pm
the missile gift. >> i share the skepticism. people that are overseas or back in washington know they never get anything for free. >> laura: who gives up anything that doesn't hold true to their national interests. i say that is a good thing. critics on the united states, they don't want to talk to russia at all. now that we have a chance to talk with them, nobody wants to talk with them. >> we all act on our national interest. for whatever reasons, in this case, our interests and russian
7:10 pm
interests are not in line. russia is aligned with iran and syria. the agreement today was with jordan, the united states and russia. that area is very limited. it's not where the iranian militia operates. and i'm very concerned that we had this false sense of security here. and the assad regime and the iranians are running amok. >> laura: sometimes it's baby steps. i don't think anybody thought we would be coming out of this g20 and linking arms. that was never going to happen. were going to have to use our
7:11 pm
leverage with russia, natural resources perhaps. we are going to have to use our leverage to get out of these tough situations with north korea and syria. we all want to get rid of isis with which is a big deal. >> forget about a number of other things. >> laura: are we going to send american troops into the ukrain ukraine? the idea that donald trump ran on nonintervening, getting involved in a huge military operation. >> nobody is saying go to war
7:12 pm
over ukraine. no one wanted to go to war with the czech republic when the started taking little pieces bit by bit. we have a notion that let's not confront. at some point you have to draw a line. >> laura: is europe going to have any involvement here? >> i am all for getting the europeans getting involved. i'm all for getting them to pay for their own security. with the united states and the lead appeared you have to punch the bully in the nose. >> laura: i get what you're saying. my concern is, it's not 1985 or 1995.
7:13 pm
we are $20 trillion in debt. the more involved militarily, the less powerful and influential and more depleted of our military is gone. we have to get this economy going at home before we can stop these problems. we have to remember that we live in an economic world. people have to pay for things. >> either you're a warmonger, or let's just get out. there's a lot of room in between. as a green beret, we had proxies on the ground, cyber, covert means. this is not putting 200,000

tyrants and rulers not only abroad, but here in these united states in america where you have fascists and white supremacists. our number one priority is to protect our communities. and not assimilate. our top priority is to please the god. >> laura: she was quoted as being a champion of change. we have some guests to weigh in. it's great to see both of you. wow, for her to say that our goal is not to assimilate. we don't answer to any push for
7:20 pm
assimilation. we answer to our religion. for most americans, that means something else. do you defendant what she said about this president and this country? >> that word is mentioned in religious books. she knows what this word means appeared it means something different to isis. and the kkk have different interpretations. i think she is expressing her frustrations.
7:21 pm
there is a ban on six countries, and that brings frustration. >> laura: here's what doesn't go over well with most american americans. her going up there and saying that the fascist islamic hating people in the office. that's just garbage. that's meant to incite muslims to whom she's speaking. it isn't meant to build bridges. that's meant to incite, infuriate, and she said her goal is not to assimilate. her goal is for sharia law.
7:22 pm
>> islam reminds us of mercy and compassion. this contradiction -- >> laura: we are not any mosque here. we we are not preaching. does she sound merciful to you? >> you should talk with linda herself. the word of jihad that you mention is up to interpretation. it is about interaction. it's about muslim and non-muslim interaction. lots of other americans are supportive of that frustration.
7:23 pm
>> laura: welcome to the club, everyone is disappointed all the time. we don't hear immigrants traditionally saying we will not assimilate. what frustrates me, i know muslim americans who hear this and go crazy. they say she does not represent us. they hate hearing her words. she doesn't want to assimilate. she says defamatory words. it's nastiness and hate. it's not positive stuff. >> is very radical. she was specifically inciting hatred and violence. if these words were coming out of any other person, they would say they overstepped their lines. you have to understand her

administration. that is a call for violence. she is a homegrown terrorist, and has plans to kill the president and other people. the fbi and secret service should be monitoring her right now. >> laura: i know you take issue with a lot that was just said. there is common ground here. between the muslim can stomach community and conservatives. but we never see them working together. it seems that the liberals should be fighting with the muslims a lot of these issues. we do want to assimilate and for

constitution. somebody like bridget isn't telling us that she doesn't believe. >> laura: hold on one second. my question is, when you hear somebody like her, why don't you denounce her. it's an outrage and i denounce what she says about not assimilating. about the white supremacy. why don't you denounce that? >> if it means to promote violence, we condemn them. but if we struggle against in injustice and racism and poverty, then we are on the same page.
