morning. >> thank you for having me. pete: ukiah. a lot of people see this as mayor hodges and that's all they see. unpack the situation in minneapolis right now for us. >> well, there's a lot going on to be candid. what you are seen as a protest thinking of mayor hodges says the culmination of identity politics in minneapolis. the only kind of politics and so you have various competing factions from that used to insist they the most oppressed and they vie for supremacy as you know, in minnesota we have the democrat farmer labor, the title would give democrat. the people through the public of minnesota. it's become something of a national, international embarrassment. the unfortunate and tragic death of jesse and demand high stress

minneapolis into the headlines. it's not a good look, not acquitted itself well. although you can come down hard on mayor hodges if you like, and i think both the cause and the effect. and now the logical endpoint of what we've seen over the last decade by the democrats moving increasingly to the left. these aren't not your father or mother's democrats or liberals. in fact, they are not the same democrat defined in rural minnesota. twin cities liberals -- twin cities democrats, especially minneapolis are on the far left. >> is that democrats problem, democrats fault for this problem arrested in minneapolis? can you squarely say it's all the democrats fault? >> now, i don't think you can never say it's all one group's fault. do you mean the recent shooting?

public school test scores, public safety, fear of safety in downtown minneapolis? there's a lot wrong with minneapolis sorry to say. pete: absolutely. it looks like the outside from lawlessness. protesters sitting around blocking traffic your police not doing much without it. is all this about black lives matter, as the mayor vowed to not in the same state of the city address. he talked about identity politics. do you have to be lied to make tough calls in tough situations? >> i would do the most sustained answer for what you are seeing. betsy hodges is from everything i hear a very nice woman. she follows me on twitter. but incompetent in dealing with the real demand, which at times requires you to stand up to your own constituents are your own voting bloc when they go off the

it's confusing how someone could get on the highway, do that five repetitive times and then have the same anger. i don't know how you grab a flag and it from the location, especially the american flag without some sort of overriding the emotional purpose. abby: by thoughtful. total loss of patriotism that we need more today. tanks to people like you, you've got an uncle and you've got not adapted to serve the country and many others in your community. what if people told you about the flags? >> well, probably the best response to get his vote would put them up in them and take them down, cars driving by their horns. stick their hands out the windows and put their thumbs out. it gives you hope. when we started doing it and we didn't know what we were doing. once a built supplement the income you can imagine the overpass and having americans

the president reminds me of that everyday. if you're an immediacy, how do you respond back? >> call me a little bit cynical about the western media at this point that they can revise the reputation of the things fairly. these are leftists in newsrooms who will do anything they can to take on somebody they see as republican an adversary. the right approach will help, but we shouldn't have -- >> they like to jump on things before we have all the facts. it would never happen today. but one of the most recent moments was about president trump pardoning people. i guess he treated something about that in the mainstream media caught nuts about it. >> this new question today, could the president pardon himself or his family? >> the presidents' day press secretary seems to leave the door open. >> doubletalk apart in the first

>> we look at objectivity. these are the spin numbers we are looking at. spin the sensationalism, the friend of yours who loves to exaggerate the story. something can be true and factual, but then it can be distorted or spun with emotional or sensational words. pete: the first six months of trunk presidency, when we look again at cnn, what is the number mean? 63% of the time, the time, cnn is being named? >> the language used in their stories have one sort of vagueness, let me give you an example. this is a story from spicer's resignation. this is just two paragraphs. words like const and chaos, fighting, abrupt and angry, warring factions, floundering. these are words that are not measurable, not based on data or facts. they are emotional and they get us riled up, but they're not helping us be more informed.

successful in his own right. you worked with him, you know, minute to minute, during the day during the campaign and during the transition. he is incredibly capable and a terrific defender of this president and his agenda to make america great again. and i think it's exciting that we're going to have a new chapter. i'm good friends with sean spicer, have been for over 20 years, and he's an incredible competent guy. i respect that he gave anthony a clean sheet to be able to build his own team. pete: david, what change do you expect? it's been called the clean slate slate. what will be the pivot, the focus for a communications team led by anthony scaramucci? >> first and foremost i think he's going to push back incredibly hard. as i said he has a degree from harvard law school. it makes him incredibly smart and well versed in the law, and i think it's going to allow him to talk about a lot of issues and broadly with the media to make them understand what the

deep state is, these incredibly irresponsible, dangerous, and illegal leaks that are going on that the president is talking about, that he wants investigated. i think the push-back is potentially very strong from anthony scaramucci on a host of issues. but also pivoting to the positive, pivoting to health care and what we're going to be doing in the next week, pivoting to tax reform down the road. he's going to look at the agenda and want to push it forw.rd pete: let's talk about pardoning this morning because this is something that scaramucci is going to have to deal with in the pressroom as well. the washington post last week said that the team trump has been sniffing around and the legal team has been looking into the idea of pardons and would there be pardons coming down for his own family given this russia investigation. here's what the president, though, tweeted the other day. he said, "while all agree the u.s. president has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is leaks against us?

fake news." well, the media went crazy on this idea of pardons. what do you make of this? is the president planning on pardoning his entire family? >> once again, once again, it is the mainstream trying to drive a narrative, create the narrative that the president is focused on pardons when the president in that tweet turns it around and says, "the only illegality that we've seen so far are these leaks by the deep state, by jim comey who in his own testimony leaked a memo for political purposes. that's what the president sees as the underlying issues here. and the mainstream media won't talk about it. they want to talk about only what is sensational. if the legal team is looking at potential conflicts of mueller's team, that's a no-no. in the nineties, bill clinton's team dismantled ken starr day to day, minute to minute, and they

wish him well. you know, i disagree with him on a lot of issues, but i hate to see a true american hero have this type of health problem, and i hope he gets back here to washington very quickly because it could come down to his vote to be able to get it through. pete: i need to follow up on that because it was reported that both you and former campaign manager corey lewandowski were on the hill, he's been indecisive, he says he wants to get the "yes," he's not turned yet. how will you turn the votes of others and like his to get the magic number? >> i think senator lee's position is something that should be respected and applauded. he believes in truly repealing and replacing obamacare and that's what he's holding his colleagues to, so i think that he is working very diligently to make the repeal and replace obamacare bill the best for all americans and to drive down premiums, which is really his focus. so i think that he's going to look at this final bill as it comes out in the next couple of

her with prevazon holdings case, which was a big firm banned from the u.s., had a lawsuit here in the united states, and glenn simpson was connected to that. well, glenn simpson is also connected -- he worked on that case for two years. he's also connected to the christopher steele dossier, and senator grassley and senator feinstein want answers. who paid you to go after trump, to build this case against him? how did the f.b.i. end up with this dossier? he doesn't want to answer these questions. he also has a lot of other questions to answer. i mean, if he was lobbying and he didn't, you know, register with the foreign registration act, that's another question that they have with him. and another thing, too, that i think nobody is really looking at, if you think about the russians, they keep trying to say "collusion, collusion, collusion" with the trump administration and trying to bring this about, but the russians and this oligarch were trying to go against the mig

knits act, and people that worked with glenn simpson to put this dossier together, if anything, you would think the russians were working against trump in all of this. so there's a lot of questions that glenn simpson has to answer and now he's in europe and he doesn't want to answer any questions and he's pleading the fifth. pete: right. the president the other day pleading about hillary clinton and why aren't we looking at hillary's campaign in all of this, and it seems to me if you follow the money, there are some interesting connections possibly to supporters of hillary clinton in this campaign. >> yeah, absolutely. one of the things that they do know is that there were people even from the democratic party that had, you know, former congressional members who went to work in connection with veselnitskaya, in connection with fusion gps, so there's a lot of questions here with very few answers. what i can say is this: regardless of glenn simpson pleading the fifth on this, they are continuing this investigation. and more and more information is going to leak out. i mean, we're going to see definitely distinct connections

morning, pete. i really feel like common sense has sort of left the room and the department of education is really focusing on something that is not supported by the people of minnesota. >> so what's the agenda here in are there so many transgendered children being bullied in minnesota that this is a massive problem that they feel like they need to react to? >> pete, unfortunately, this has been an agenda that has been going on for about four, maybe five years now in minnesota, and we're told conflicting things. one time i'm told there's only a few kids throughout the entire state of minnesota, so why is someone like me speaking out against these poor kids. but then when i ask why are you putting together very serious, broad sweeping policy across the state of minnesota, why are we doing that when there's only a few students, and they say, well there's students coming up all the time and they're just being bullied and so we need to put this policy in place. pete: my father's an athletic director in minnesota. he's had to deal with issues like this, locker rooms, boys, girls, usually those closest to

we also saw you thought sean spicer would remain in the white house and continue to work there and then he resigned. >> that's sean's choice. the president made it very clear he wanted sean to stay, but sean told sean hannity that he felt it best to give them a new start a clean slate. he'll do very well for himself. he has a great communications mind, spicer. he's able to look at a complex issue and figure out how to deploy people for regional media national media, social media. for a president who is incredibly media savvy and a communications expert in his own right. you know, media communications is important to every president, but to this president it's really essential because he himself has such a great eye for that for that and he knows the only way to connect directly with the american people and cut through all the noise is to help all of us out there helping to break the news. and connecting with the information we need to have. we know there's biased coverage, but there's such incomplete coverage of all the things he's done. the average american needs to know what's in place for veterans now, all these great

improvements for them, the accountability act, the whistleblower protections, the 24/7 white house hotline, the fact that for the first time in decades a veteran is seen as one single patient at the dod and the va so can you tell us out the bottleneck, the red tape, and allows that veteran to get the care he or she -- pete: how do you do that with a pressroom full of liberal -- frankly, they're all liberals, and they're all accosting this president. how do you get them to focus on things you want them to focus on on? >> shame, guilty, information, elixir. there are many different ways to do that. you can go at them or you can go around them. these reporters are no longer chasing a story so much as chasing the president and that's starting to backfired because i'm a person at the white house who is deployed probably about once a week, every 10 days or so out into america, and i am constantly meeting people. and these are not just, you know republicans or conservatives; meeting people saying, "i want him to succeed. i love this country.

this is our time. he's doing great things. he's keeping his promise." but he's there to drain the swamp and the swamp doesn't always like it. the swamp isn't just congress, it isn't just lobbyists. it's everybody who's had a hand in the inertia and the deadlock -- abby: do you think the media will change? you saw that clip when we brought you in with anthony scaramucci and just sort of the different way that he was able to handle some of the tough questions that came at him. he's very transparent. he comes across very calm. you know, he tells them exactly what's going on so there's nothing to hide. and he's hoping that maybe the media can respond in a different way, as you said, a new chapter for the communications team. do you think the media will change at all? >> they are certainly curious about the new changes, and i think that the greatest irony is they've been covering all these palace intrigue stories literally since the day we got there. who's head is going to roll, who's in the doghouse, who's being fired, who's being replaced? and nobody has been.

in other words, we had three cnn reporters fired, but nobody from the inner circle. the president is attitude when it comes to that, i think when it changes it will be maybe a fresh start and a wider berth. anthony scaramucci is something else, as is sarah huckabee sanders. tough about humble. his story, american dream story, yes, he's a guy that can handle -- pete: we kept hearing on friday that this is trump's guy, right? and there are other members who knows the trump administration well are saying now trump gets his guy in that role. and it's interesting to see how many more people could be placed in those roles. you think the trump administration, they come in in january, they could put all of their own people in there, right right? but he's being pulled by the swamp in different directions

from republicans -- clayton: corey lewandowski and the hill. >> he is surrounded by people inside and outside who continue to give him great advice and i think the people who do best in the trump orbit, whether they were officially in the white house or on the outside helping us in different ways are the people who recognize, he is the greatest communicator. he is his best messenger. we're there to support him. he leads -- i mean, this man has beat every odd, beat every -- vanquished 16 opponents and then hillary clinton, and we should not lose sight of how that happened. that happened because he trusts his own instincts, he's un unflappable, and when people hit him, he hits back twice as hard. and as he always says, he's a counterpuncher. i'm much the same way. i don't draw first blood but you draw blood on us you're not going to win that debate. he'll continue to be that way as president. the focus he has, issues like love for the military and the workingman and keeping manufacturing jobs in this country. look at him yesterday at the uss gerald ford where he's just so proud to launch this new we feel

and so proud of the thousands of patriots who will serve there. and they're there for him as well. it's just it's indicative, it's symptomatic how he will continue to flourish outside the noise. abby: i love your advice for sarah huckabee sanders. you've been criticized many times by the mainstream media. now sarah huckabee sanders is stepping in as this new press secretary. it's an incredibly tough job to have. you are that middle person between president trump and the media. i mean, you go on social media and you read some of these attacks on her, many of them personal, cruel, awful attacks about her looks, about her as a person. what advice do you have for the mainstream media handling her and advice for her on how she moves forward? >> i love sarah and respect her enormously, and i can't be happier that she's agreed to take on this job. i'm pretty sure she's the first mother to ever be our nation's press secretary, and i got a little goose bump just because i know what that entails. he's got these three young children that gives her

wonderful perspective, but it also gives you such a balance. you realize what's really important in this world. she can go home at night and in the morning and see a husband and three children who love her very much. it's very grounding. she doesn't have to worry about what the jackals and hyenas say. the irony of quote modern feminism, they look right past sexist comments said about conservative women, definitely pro-life women like sarah and me me. the minute they testified we're pro-life -- abby: they say you hate men. >> they're in my prayers every day. i can't imagine being so miserable that you have to attack another woman's looks or clothing. you want to talk about policy? have at it. that's what the country is founded. we should have a larger conversation, honest conversation about how people are treated. sarah will do very well because she knows these she's there to serve the country, and she tries very hard -- she's incredibly hard worker who is raised in

politics. she's tough, she's smart, but she's also humble, and she's also very accessible. and i think all of that will serve her well, and i couldn't be more proud. pete: speaking of double standards the president was tweeting yesterday morning and tweeted about the fact that, you know, all this focus on the investigation, special counsels, why aren't we looking at hillary clinton or comey's crimes, 33,000 emails and things like that. is there going to be a renewed focus on that, looking at what hillary did but also going after the special counsel and this witch hunt as the president calls it against him? >> the president has always said this russia stuff is nonsense, it's a witch hunt, it's a hoax. honestly, what are we doing here here? what is this about? the taxpayer money, the diversion of resources and time. he's talking about america; they're talking about russia. and the president is making clear, he has no business dealings in russia. i was the campaign manager. i knew the campaign very well. we were talking to people in macomb county, michigan, not moscow. and this president, you know, i

was on the other side. i had worked for a super pac in support of ted cruz for a while. there was no way to vanquish donald trump. he was the smartest, most un unflappable, and we aren't, gee, should we call russia and try to get rid of him. it's complete nonsense. it makes you laugh just to think about it with a straight face. and let me just say the miss universe pageant happened to go to russia nine years ago. he sold his house to a russian 10 years ago. what was everybody so prescient that i think this man will run for president? 10 minutes before he won the darn thing people were saying he will never be the president. so 10 years earlier someone in russia -- someone who was russian was supposed to realize i think one day he'll be president? it's nonsense. it's a waste of taxpayer time and money and may i say you've got adam schiff and mark warner, the two the democrats partly in charge of these investigations, they spend more time on tv than collecting the evidence anyway, so what is this truly ab.ut pete: let's have you stick around. want to stick around?

the constant attacks. and you had some great advice that you were giving us but also to sarah huckabee sanders as well as who's stepping in now as press secretary. >> don't read it, sarah, it doesn't matter. especially if they're twitter picture of a cat. >> people can hide behind anonymous images. >> i get great advise from people all the time, but i don't read the praise or the criticism criticism. that keeps you very balanced, too, keeps your ego out of the white house altogether, which is very great. in the case of sarah i would say recommend she turn off her notifications on twitter. she's so busy getting briefed from the cabinet members, speaking to the president, the senior staff, the vice president before she goes out to the briefings or whether she's otherwise representing the country, sarah, that no time to read what people who don't know you say about you. pete: she can read about the president's tweets -- >> of course. he's connecting with the people. clayton: the other day when he tweeted this about pardoning, the washington post talked about the trump team was getting

pardons ready for his own family members. he tweeted this: while all agree the u.s. president has complete power to pardon, why can't of that when only crime so far is leaks against the united states? fake news." so the white house prepping pardons for everyone? >> the answer is "no" and i discussed this with the president directly. that's another part of the hoax. his point is exactly what he says at the end of that tweet, which is that why are we talking about -- there's nothing to pardon. there's no one to pardon. why are we talking about presidential pardons if there's no presidential crime? the only crime so far is leaks, the deep state lakes, the presidential leaks, which, by the way, imperil all of us. i know some people think they're being cute and anti this president, but they imperil all of us. and the reason he keeps on mentioning hillary clinton, people say, why is he still mentioning mixed? a, she can't get over the election. senator schumer over the weekend saying there's no one to blame here, it's not comey, it's not russia, you have to look at yourself. he was pretty hard on his former colleague, hillary clinton.

senator schumer is right. the point is you talk about a hoax, you talk about a witch hunt, you're talking about no "there" there, and now you're talking about pardoning for the noncrime. pete: talking about pardoning is that there was criminal activity activity. the unsaid part of that headline headline. talk about is it fake news or not, the report from the washington post suggesting that attorney general jeff sessions spoke about campaign issues or maybe campaign issues with the russian ambassador. again, potentially the big issue of that is the fact that the name was unmasked through surveillance. setting that aside, which the leaking is a massive problem, is there any concern inside in the white house about that report? >> well, the presidency was pretty specific about this in his interview early this week with the new york times that senator sessions was a supporter of his out on the campaign trail he wanted to be the attorney general, the president appointed nominated him to that, he is the attorney general, the president is disappointed that he recused himself because again there's nothing there. a handshake is not a meeting. a conversation is not -- a casual conversation is not some furtive attempt to subvert

democracy and swing the election results, and nobody the vase facedly believes that or suggests that. i think, you know, i think the recusal has also been -- i think it's spurred into other issues where you look at the president president's agenda and so much of it goes to the department of justice -- the wall, immigration crime -- abby: speak to that because the president is going to youngstown ohio this week. >> yes. abby: speak to that, and he's also putting pressure on republicans and congress to get things done. >> that's key. so many accomplishments in his first six months are many. anybody need a list, there are many. renegotiating the tpp, the north korean and free trade agreement, over 800,000 jobs were created, the stock market loves this guy as do the investors, many middle class investors who will benefit from his tax cut and tax reform, benefit from health care reform but are already benefiting from a robust, optimistic, responsive dow jones 25 times broken recor. abby: how about with congress?

>> with congress is basically saying to them, "i've been doing my job. look at all the things i've been doing with regulatory roll back. and abby, in that lunch where i sat, he said to the senators, i've got my pen in my hand. i've been here six months ready to go. you've been talking about this for seven years. so let's just get it done, let's get it done before you even leave. so tuesday when they do vote for the motion to proceed, proceed and keep going. we're going to expand health savings accounts, going to save medicaid, which is unsustainable give governors flexibility, open up the markets to more people and still cover politician conditions. a lot of goodies in there and he's telling congress, i'm doing my job, please do yours because you don't have to lot to show these last six months. pete: we don't have much more time because our satellite is about to be cut off. >> thank you. pete: next on the rundown, president trump sending a strong warning to iran. free our detainees or else one of them rebuke robert levenson held there for more than a decade. his son dan said he's more

>> it was actually the strongest wording we've seen from any government in the past 10 years they've been dealing with this. they've specifically talked about iran holding my dad for the last 10 years and they said there's going to be consequences consequences. there's one angle to ask for help and cooperation locating my dad but to show that there's repercussions for inacting, that extends a strong message to the iranians. pete: you were incredibly upset in 2013 during the iran nuclear deal, you said perhaps this was perhaps the last chance to get your father back and that the u.s. had squandered it. >> absolutely. we gotta look forward to now. nothing we can do. i think there's still leverage. they're still talking about sanctions and things like that, and i think they're going to have to keep the pressure on iran. >> when we recertify around so-called compliance with the deal, and a lot of people look at their activity now that isn't in compliance, does that frustrate you? >> well, all we're going to do is keep pushing. we met with officials at the white house, state department, f.b.i. all week, and this is all in the aftermath of that, and it

didn't seem like that changes everything. they're willing to do whatever it takes to get my dad home which is encouraging to hear. abby: how you doing and how is your family doing? >> 10 years it's been a struggle struggle. i actually just held his newest grandson in my arms yesterday and it's tough when he misses these moments. it's tough every day that he's not there. there's so much been going on, but we just gotta keep pushing and it's good for us to be able to have these opportunities to continue pressing his case. pete: do you get any info at all about your dad's health, his well-being? >> it's been 10 years since we got any video from him. it's been 10 years, we understand it's a tough situation, but we're hopeful. i still believe he's alive, and they're holding him and he's being kept well, just the fact of getting him h.me pete: and you and your father, robert, and your whole family are in our prayers, you have the most powerful man in the world in your corner. >> good to hear statements like

long time and been a very good spokes person for him out talking to different media out there. also makes you wonder in this new chapter, you think about someone like jeff sessions, an interesting time to talk about this because he's someone that has been so loyal to president trump. i mean he has been on the trump bandwagon from pretty much day one. we have seen recently the president has come out. came out of the new york times saying you know i wish i had known that he was going to recuse himself from the russian investigation before i gave him that job. it does make you wonder how that relationship moves from here, because it is such an important one to have. it makes you wonder is it possible that he could resign? i mean what's going to happen here? >> is there a bottleneck now of course in the doj? look, that was his frustration when talking to the new york times was this idea that if you knew you were going to do that, and recuse yourself, why did you take the job in the first place? and now trying to get things through the doj, it creates an enormous bottleneck. he's a guy that likes efficiency. he doesn't like bureaucracy. >> he wants fighters.

not that jeff sessions is not a fighter, the attorney general of the united states, but when you are looking at border walls and immigration agendas and all of that, you have to be willing to fight back against the kind of resistance we're seeing. we asked conway about it, she said hey the president talked about that in the new york times. who knows what that means necessarily. but the president is surrounding himself with the people that will push across the finish line. you e know -- you know, we will see where that goes. >> the president is loyal to the people that are loyal to him. he has been a loyal friend and loyal supporter, but i think the question exists still, where does this go from here? >> you come out to the new york times and say those things about the attorney general. >> he doesn't just say things to say them; right? >> all very strategic. when you come to the new york times and say i don't know why he took the job, yeah, i was upset, i was disappointed. it is not like he's sitting in a room with his wife talking. >> jeff sessions he felt like he did what he needed to do at that moment. he said you know what? i felt like i needed to remove myself, that's the best way to move forward. obviously that's not the way

president trump wanted him to handle the situation. >> up until now, the democratic message has been resist, we have heard that since of course the election and fight this administration, fight against the repeal and replace of obama care. well, tomorrow marks a new chapter for democrats, perhaps. this comes from chuck schumer's office for their new economic plan. they are coming up with a new slogan. here it is, a better deal, better jobs, better wages, better future. a lot of people having fun on social media saying it sounds a lot like a papa john's commercial. >> that graphic looks a lot like papa john's. kudos to whoever made that. they are trying to find their footing of what they really stand for. people aren't sure what that is. the same article that talked about this new potential slogan for their economic plan also had a quote from schumer where he takes a sideswipe at the former nominee hilary clinton as well. he said when you lose to someone who has a 40% popularity, he's referring to president trump, who obviously got more than 40% of the vote, you don't blame

other things, comey, russia -- russia, you blame yourself. what did we do wrong? people didn't know what we stood for, just that we were against trump and still believe that. they are trying to bring a new slogan out there to change a way from just being resisters. >> they have always been the party of let's raise the minimum wage, let's try to get more people employed. >> how is that working in the municipalities that raise their minimum wage? they end up losing jobs. >> you know, i see some similarities in this message to president trump. better wages. we have also seen the president pushing for better skills which is also part of the slogan. the president has been talking about this apprenticeship program which i'm a big champion of. i believe by getting people out there into the workforce who are learning these trade skills, incredibly important to watch a master craftsman do it, be an apprentice, get into the workforce. we need these skilled laborers. >> we had the former director of

strategic communications for the hilary clinton campaign, you asked her that, clayton. you said this message coming from democrats sounds awfully similar to what we have heard from president trump throughout the campaign and now as being president, does that mean maybe they can start working together? here's what she said. >> look, i think first of all, any time democrats are talking about jobs, that is a good thing. as the resistance continues to take shape, part of what many of us in the party have said all along is that we do need to have a forward-thinking positive message that we're laying out. i think tomorrow is unveiling this economic agenda, an important first step in this process. >> you see how she faded back into the resistance, that's where they are. it still all antitrump, but if you look at the slogan, a better deal, better jobs, they have added 800,000 jobs under the trump administration already, better wages, wages have risen naturally as opposed to -- >> lower end workers. >> exactly. what if their agenda is exactly what president trump is doing and they are trying to outtrump trump? >> can they come together?

i don't want to ignore what the hacking of what the dnc e-mails revealed, the assistance of journalist getting hilary clinton legislated over sanders -- elected over sanders. if leaks actually reveal something true, it should be investigated. you look at both. you don't ignore one and look at the other only. that being said, in today's climate, it's very difficult to know what is true, because the media is clearly, clearly slanted in the direction of trying to do anything they can to undermine president trump. so, you know, an allegation like sessions spoke to the russian ambassador during the campaign, well, that could mean anything. it could be something as innocent as hey when trump gets in office, our relationship is going to improve, which isn't that different from what obama said with a hot mic that he didn't know was hot. it is actually less troubling than that. to hey why don't you hack the dnc e-mails. as far as the pardon power is concerned, the president's pardon power is in the

constitution. it is almost unbridled power. the president can pardon just about anybody for any federal crime, the limitation has to be a federal crime. the crime has to have already been committed. and it does not cover impeachment. other than that, it is a very very broad power. i'm not really sure -- >> why is the media running away with this? as you said there's nothing illegal about this, but that being said, he's not looking to pardon people. we asked kellyanne about his tweets specifically, she says no there's nothing here to pardon anybody for. why do you think the media is taking this so extreme? >> because he brought it up. why did he bring up the pardon power if you don't intend to use it? >> but his point, judge, was to say why is the media focusing -- part of his point why are you focusing on pardons when you should be focusing on leaks and same with the investigators? >> the answer to that we all know is because some media outlets out there are completely guided by one principle, and that is do anything you can to make sure that trump does not

you have to see this in a world where you have trump care which is likely going to fail the senate next week and what the cbo is saying that 20 some odd million individuals will lose their healthcare. we have to create a juxtaposition to those types of policies and i think you will see that in the next couple of weeks. >> some conservatives this morning on our show and over the weekend, brian, have been saying this sounds very familiar, better skills, better jobs, better wages, isn't that what president trump has been talking about since he's been in office? >> it's what president trump has been doing since he's been in office. i think when you look at the new slogan, not much different in the policies we rejected in november. i want to see what the specifics are. the middle class worker has suffered eight years under president obama. you have president trump who is reversing that. he's working to create new small businesses, working to strengthen the economy. very curious to see specifically what this better deal means. we always know from the previous deals is that the american voters loses when the democrats come up with whatever deal they propose. >> richard, are we entering an

era of self-reflection for democrats? we saw chuck schumer to the washington post taking a swipe at hilary clinton. i don't know there's any other way to read this. maybe you read this differently. he said this and i will quote when you lose to somebody, who has 40% popularity, you don't blame other things, comey, russia, you blame yourself. so what did we do wrong? well, people didn't know what we stood for, just that we were against trump. so self-reflection from the democrats? >> i mean, i think chuck schumer is right and something i said all along. that doesn't negate the fact that for the past eight years under president obama we had really good economic growth. not only did we create i think it is 80 consecutive months of jobs but when this president -- when president obama got the keys to the car, the economy was in a free-fall and that ended. trump is benefitting from that. i think he's benefitting from some wall street optimism, but that optimism is going to be short lived if he cannot get his agenda through. he promised the american people healthcare. he promised the american people a tax reform bill. he promised the american people infrastructure. neither of those three things

are done. >> brian, richard brings up a great point. there's a lot of hope right now in the market. we heard this yesterday from trish regan on our show. there is a lot of hope in the market. if they don't get tax reform done, they don't get healthcare through, there could be some trouble on the horizon. >> 100% agreed. i think that's why you have the president using all his resources to make sure these things do get accomplished. the one fact i'm going to dispute with my colleague here is the last eight years haven't been great. gdp has been at near record lows considering all the money that was flushed into the economy. you can't just say it was great. what you have with the president is you have his focus. you have everybody in his cabinet focused on reversing the last eight years, dealing with the deregulation, dealing with wages. i mean, we can talk about all these jobs that were brought forward, a lot of them were low wage jobs. that's not what the american dream is about. >> richard, final word? >> i have one point on this, i think when republicans make this argument about deregulation, it's really in details here. what are you deregulating?

go -- he's basically a salesman. okay? >> thanks donny. the dnc taking it even further saying today the swamp grew even bigger as wall street continues to move into the white house. anthony scaramucci is a long time wall street financier who called himself an ambassador for the hedge fund industry and admitted he is quote an out of touch elitist. why are they knocking him for financial success? here to weigh in sunday morning futures host maria bartiromo. you know wall street and him. talk to us. >> it didn't sound like they knew what they were talking about in terms of running a fund of funds. i don't think they understood what scaramucci did. there's nothing wrong with success. okay? success should be celebrated. that's the greatness of this country. that you can start from nothing and work really hard, perhaps get a little luck, and achieve great success. so it's all good. look, i think this is a very good choice for this role. number one, is because anthony scaramucci believes in the president's agenda. he believes in lower taxes, in smaller government, lower regulations, and economic growth.

and he expects what he's seen on wall street in terms of running a business. he knows that in terms of lower taxes and smaller government, lower regulations, that will move the -- >> didn't you have him on your show a few years ago? >> a lot. >> he was pretty critical of the president? >> you are right. at that time he was raising money for scott walker and then he was running money for jeb bush. so he was against donald trump. donald trump at that time during the campaign was slamming hedge fund managers, the rich, saying -- by the way, they do have a crazy carried interest deduction that is really allowing them to, you know, have a much lower tax rate. so that carry interest, a lot of people believe that should go away. anthony scaramucci i bet believes it as well. >> there's enough hypocrisy to fill an entire bowl of soup going around here. because democrats were more aligned with wall street during this last election than anybody. >> yeah. >> i mean -- so now they are upset that he's a wall street guy and they didn't -- come on there's a huge pile of hypocrisy staring them in the face.

>> by the way, that interview you mentioned when scaramucci was on my show, i think what to notice was the level of the dow jones industrial average. on the corner of the screen you see the dow at 15,000 something. today it is above 20,000. the stock market has risen since then. it has created 4 trillion dollars in wealth and that is because people are expecting growth. >> maria, do you see the change with anthony scaramucci as part of a turn for the administration? are they going in a different direction? is this the beginning? >> i think they will go in a different direction. number one he believes in the agendas amention -- as i mentioned. it is time to start asking the question does the g.o.p. believe in the agenda? does the g.o.p. want this president to be successful? because of what's going on in healthcare. he's from queens, new york, just like the president. he's not going to take anything from anyone. he's going to believe and put that agenda as a priority and he's going to just say look, this russia hearing on nonevidence is fake news. >> you have a huge showing
