presence message gets out. >> arthel: a gruesome discovery in texas. authorities finding eight bodies inside a sweltering tractor-trailer. it's a horrific case of human trafficking. america's news headquarters starts right now. >> eric: to begin this afternoon, the investigation of russia's interference in our election. the allegations of collusion denied by the trump team. also, avoid in the public spotlight. in that campaign chairman, paul manafort and donald trump junior agreeing to interview behind closed doors with the senate judiciary committee. they agreed to hand over documents, this come after senators threaten them with subpoenas. garrett is live in washington with morris we await jared kushner to appear before the senate and house intelligence committees tomorrow and tuesday.

>> this first round of interviews with paul manafort and donald trump junior will be private. the senate judiciary committee could still bring the pair back to testify in public later on. the committee is in negotiations with attorneys to decide when that interview will be as well as what documents they will provide. the two men became persons of interest following reports earlier this month that they met with the russian lawyer during the campaign seeking damaging information on hillary clinton. today, senator al franken from the judiciary committee complain that don junior and manafort will not be under oath during those interviews. >> no, that's not good enough. they should be good be under oath. they need to release all the documents. i mean, he did not say he would testify publicly so, but under oath he said, so he should definitely do that. >> that long after that, chuck grassley who chairs the judiciary committee responded on twitter saying, it is a crime to lie to congress whether trump

junior is under oath or not. pretty sad way to conduct on record interview. both the senate and house intelligence committees are conducting investigations into russia's election meddling and the ties to the trump campaign. the president sun a lot and advisor, jared kushner is scheduled to testify behind closed doors for both committees next week. today, the top democrat on the house intelligence committee said there's no shortage of questions for kushner to answer. >> we have a lot of ground to cover. counsel said they will make them available for two hours. we expect this to be the first interview. there are many questions that we will have. >> when it comes to testify in a public, earlier this month in an interview with sean hannity, donald trump junior said he would be more than happy to do so, right now it looks like you might still have that chance. >> eric: even though it's behind closed doors i'm sure we'll find out through the leaks by tomorrow afternoon what jared kushner told the senators.

>> arthel: meanwhile, the rest investigation continues to cast a shadow at president trumps agenda remains in limbo on capitol hill. the white house is now pressuring republican senators to vote on a new health care bill this week after failing to do so last week. the clock is ticking with the congressional august recess not very far away. allison barber has more from washington. >> the senate majority leader, mitch mcconnell push back the august recess until the third week of august. the delay is largely because of healthcare. republicans failed attempts to pass any sort of repeal and replace legislation. on saturday, president trump tweeted that the republican senators must step up to the plate and after seven years vote to repeal and replace. next, tax reform and infrastructure. healthcare stop of the administrations long to do

instead of ten. please are calling it a horrific horrific case of human trafficking. survivors are saying there from mexico and at one point there are more than 100 people inside. law-enforcement learned about the trailer after a man who was inside begged a walmart employee for water. that employee helped and then call for a welfare check. that led to the discovery. the chief of police calling it a mass casualty situation in 100-degree heat. the trailer to not have a working air-conditioner. thirty survivors were rushed to the hospital. many were vomiting and suffering from heatstroke. somewhat permanent brain damage. most were men in their 20s and 30s. there were also 215 -year-olds as well. >> we utilize at least seven area hospitals to transport these people out. paramedics and firefighters found that each had heart rates over 130 which again their very

hot to the touch. these people were in the trailer without any water. >> the driver was arrested and now faces both state and federal charges. authorities say this is the the works of just larger one man. they released a statement that said by any standard the horrific crime uncovered last night ranks as a stark reminder of why human smuggling networks must be pursued, caught, punish. the trailer was found 100 miles from the trailer, for close tie 35 which is a major smuggling thoroughfare. >> arthel: thank you. >> arthel: there is deadly unrest in israel after the israelis put metal detectors outside a mosque in jerusalem. one of islam's most holy sites. for palestinian protesters reportedly did this weekend and some of the most heated street violence in years. three israelis stabbed to death in their home at a west bank settlement. connor has more from our middle east bureau in jerusalem.

>> there's still very much the possibility of violence. tensions are running high although today was, the what we have seen the previous 72 hours. the israeli government announced they have installed new security cameras at the entrance to jerusalem's holy site. it's unclear if the israeli governments will remove the metal detectors that set off the violent clashes that took place on friday and saturday. it appears the government is thinking about removing those. they're still hardliners i want to keep them in. different groups including the u.s. government jordan and other countries communicating with the israeli government trying to find a solution to the violence. metal detectors were installed at a site known to june senates the tensions mount the three error visit israelis launched an attack from a last week. two police officers were killed. muslims view the installation of

metal detectors as the government taking power and control of the holy site. they pushed back to against it. the prime minister has denied this is the case. the violent protests broke out on friday after the israeli government refused to remove that metal detectors and barred muslims under the age of 50 from going to the mosque to pray. hundreds of palestinians were injured and at least four killed. later on friday three israelis were killed in a brutal attack by palestinian his not into west bank settlement and killed three israelis that were living there. in the past yours we've had word there was another incident that took place across the border in jordan at the israeli embassy. details are sketchy. at least one israeli was injured in a jordanian was shot and killed.

recommendation be as to the best way forward with healthcare? >> my recommendation is to repeal off the bat. and give us some years to work on allowing people to come to the table, hope there democratic alex will do that. right now they want to have talking points instead of solutions. our love for them to come to the table and help fix the mess they created. we have to act on our promise to repeal it. we can allow time to replace. seven years of debates, a lot of time spent on this issue. now we can get the work done. >> arthel: given that seven years have also gone by, if you repeal now that the process to replace two years later, what kind of confusion and chaos will that put into the healthcare system for those currently depending on obama care?

>> if you allow people to continue to rely to have an apple out the rug from anyone, but you start taking positive steps to address the collapse of individual markets which are affecting every family my state and also get medicaid on a sustainable path, those are things that can be done through the orderly process, committee hearings and different ways to do that going forward. i want us to move forward with this. there many other things we need to work for tax reform, infrastructure, building wall, those things need to be addressed and we need to move forward. >> arthel: healthcare still looming over the senate. is the struggle in the republican senate strictly over healthcare? or does it represent something else that might be healing the chamber? >> no. i think it's legitimate positions of people who represent their states. it's most significant in the states that expanded the medicaid programs to include people who are able-bodied that could work. alabama did not expand. we been creative and thrifty in

addressing the needs of the poorest people that the medicaid system was you design for. those are not easy issues. we need to debate and let people present the position. at the end of the day and a three republican senators can kill the whole process once we get started. there's room for people to protect their own state's interest. we need to think of the nation. >> i want to switch gears for second. you're here with us because you're filling the vacancy left behind by former longtime republican senator from alabama, current u.s. attorney general, jeff sessions. it was a rough "newsweek" last week with the washington post reporting that russia's ambassador to the u.s. told his superiors in moscow that he discussed campaign related matters within senator jeff sessions during the 2016 presidential race. fox news has not confirmed this by last week to the new york

times president trump expressed disappointment in attorney sessions for recusing himself from the russian investigation. so someone who knows mr. sessions, will the attorney general continue with his administration? or will he resign? >> i think you will continue with the administration. i believe he'll be the best attorney general in our history. his the most honest persons of integrity i've ever met my life. some of these unconfirmed and unsubstantiated reports need to be taken with a huge grain of salt and i can't there's obsession in the media of all things russia. i'm confident we'll get to the bottom of it. i like the process to work out as it is meant to do. >> arthel: should present trump's own words be taken with a grandson? >> i was with the president on tuesday, there's a lot of understandable frustration with

the media frenzy about russia and all of us feel that way. we want to work on problems people care about. >> arthel: did you get a chance to speak with the president? did you speak with him about healthcare? do you get the impression that president trump has a clear direction in which he would like to see healthcare go and something that would be a solution to repeal and replace obama care? >> i had a great conversation. what i took away was we have been talking about this for a long time, we did not have a president who would sign a bill. now are playing with live ammunition, i will sign something, get the process working. i'm frustrated that were paralyzed here that's why i'm so excited to get to washington to

>> aside from getting rid of the leakers one of the first things you'll need to do is make sure everyone on the communication staff is on the same page. for the most part, the anthony scaramucci and the press secretary were in sync as they hit the sunday shows. there was one issue where we saw daylight between them. right now congress is considering a bill that would require president trump to get congress' permission before he could lift sanctions on russia. sarah huckabee sanders said the president now supported that bill while anthony scaramucci was less committal. >> we have to ask president trump that it's my second or third day on the job. my guess is that he is going to make that decision shortly. >> the administration is supportive of being tough on russia, particularly in putting these sanctions on in place. the original piece of legislation was poorly written but we've been able to work it with thousand senate and the ministration is happy with the

whether the briefings would return to being televised regularly. he indicated he was open to which the press corps is eager to see. i think it is a possibility for a reset of some kind between the white house committee case and and the reporters who cover the white house. we'll have to see what decisions he makes and how he proceeds. >> eric: he has cable television is experience in terms of the financial expects. can he be aggressive on one hand and reflect the personality of the president at the same time and be on good terms with the reporters? >> it is a tough balance to achieve. he seems, based on the first day being in the press room to want to have that balance. he is clearly somebody who's going to represent his boss. he said a number of times that he loves donald trump. he knows that he had the audience of those was in the room but also the president probably watching on television. that's important thing to know if your briefing are going on

cable television. i think he will try to balance that. and sarah huckabee sanders as well as the new press secretary. >> eric: the president about 50 minutes ago tweeted, he is attacking fellow republican same quote it's very sad the republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back do very little to protect their president. you may assume the president doesn't think that some people in the white house have been protecting him. >> you wonder if he's also referring to some lawmakers with regard to his legislative agenda. republicans have been struggling to get health care plan repeal and replace plan past. it could be a reference to that as well. >> arthel: it seems likely. just mentioned sarah huckabee sanders away saw her going up to the podium a minute ago. what to expect from her? may play a sound bite from the news briefing on friday in which she defended the administration and laid out some of the plans

and is basically the administration message. >> i think the trump loyalist, particularly within the ministration but certain across the country are energized by the accomplishments of the president for six months. stock market is at a high, jobs are growing, regulations are coming off, the country is becoming more secure, the borders becoming more secure, immigration is down. we have a lot of things to celebrate and be excited about. our morale is pre- >> eric: what struck me is the term trump loyalist. d.c. them increasing the power and influence in the white house? >> the white house is continuing to communicate with a loyalist based that help propel him into office. that is part of sarah's job is to represent what they view as a victory of the trump administration has had. i to talk about them from the

podium or elsewhere. that is something the president valley set up as well. >> eric: how do they get on the same page? that two different versions of the russian sanction bill. that would prevent the president from lifting sanctions. >> i got the impression that maybe anthony didn't know the answer. he just started, cannot tell what how he answered that as to whether not he had spoken about it. it seemed to me that sarah was perhaps more in the know. i have not spoken to either. i'm sure they will try hard to have messages that coincide on that particular issue it may have been an issue of him not been debriefed. >> eric: and the fact that anthony scaramucci is an outsider. earlier today some of the trump folks were touting that as somebody thinks out-of-the-box and he is an entrepreneur with his wall street experience. wall street hasn't seen an act

cider like that. usually it's a former lobbyist or reporter, i think of ron siegler and at the others down the line who have had washington, d.c. experience. try to remember bill clinton's press secretary. he's different. he's new. it's a different animal for you. >> he is definitely different and new. he is likely to be the press secretary. he did brief on friday but he said sarah will continue to do the regular briefings, not the communications director. he is an outsider and he works for an outsider. donald trump is the outsider having not had any political or governing experience becoming president. he was a new york businessman. no doubt that is one of the things he saw has a commonality with anthony scaramucci and one thing he liked about him for this job. >> eric: i was thinking of stephanopoulos and barr, and alina people through the years.
