korea amid new threats from the rogue regime. here to explain the significance of the sanctions, rebecca, thank you so much for joining us this morning. >> good morning, heather. heather: we've heard on sanctions before on north korea, why are these different? >> first of all, there's the myth that there was nothing else to sanction in north korea and nikki haley and president trump and rex tillerson, secretary of state prove that had wrong. this is a major foreign policy for the trump administration because thighs are massive sweeping sanctions and we got everybody on board in un security council, that's a big deal. it's going to squeeze the north korean regime as much as third of export revenue that is they make. the key is if china is going to enforce sanctions. heather: we will talk a little bit more on china.

let look specifically at the sanctions which have been approved, 15-0 unanimously across the board, supposedly will ban coal and other experts worth a billion dollars, other experts in addition to coal. you were referencing china and i know specifically in terms of the sanctions that have been place before on north korea, coal specifically was one that china, you know, disregarded. >> well, there were some indication that there may have been a dip with chinese import but then what the chinese did was, first of all, a humanitarian loophole that said if some of the chinese loopholes went to north korean civilians that would be acceptable. that was a farce. the north koreans don't care about civilians, all of that money and revenue went to military and missile program. there are no more loopholes like that but, again, the chinese even when things like coal were sanctioned, the chinese looked

for other opportunities to increase, for instance, seafood and minerals and other goods like that, but those are covered in the sanctions that were just passed and so, again, this is going to squeeze the regime as long as they are in force. heather: other things that we didn't get, one of them was oil, is that right? >> that's correct. north koreans rely on that as well. there's more head roam if we want to push down further on the regime. i talked about this before in show too. secondary sanctions, malaysia, singapore, china, banks that are propping up the financial nations that prop up regime. other things that we can do but this is a significant step and also shows that the trump administration does have significant leadership cloud in the world, that they're able to push this and get some really good sanction that is can clamp down on the regime and stop the money for missile program. heather: do you think russia

that is a whiney narrative. it's a negative pessimistic narrative and, you know what, maybe ought to consider joining the republicans because we are trying to reverse policies that have made people's lives more difficult. rob: to be fair, both parties can say that there are politicians on both sides that they are not proud and members and voters that they are not proud of, what are you going to do, they vote for you, what are democrats supposed to do? they are in a position where they have no power and not a lot to do except complain and obstruct as the president says they are doing. >> well, the opposition party is supposed to be a loyal opposition and democrats are running up by 10 points in all national polls but going to political cloture we have right now. president trump is complaining about he's not getting job done and saying democrats are blocking him as they should be if they don't agree saying that the press is unfair, saying that
