>> sean: steven, there was trfrt -- controversy over the mayor of houston and not taking the governor's calls saying even if local authorities are saying to get out, he's saying stay in your homes and stay there. what's the latest on that controversy? >> more and more neighborhoods are being told if you don't leave now law enforcement won't be able to rescue you but imagine leaving with the rain pouring down and darkness and some roads flooded and falling apart. when you see people around here they're wet, cold, tired and uncertain about where they're going to eat and go. the shelters here, they need everything. they need doctors, they need baby formula and people are wet and confused. so ask them to leave their homes now in the darkness a tough situation. >> sean: i know you haven't

slept much and the gust the other night were scaring us and we're glad your safe. joining us now with more coverage matt finn is with us. what's going on there? >> sean, there are so many heartbreaking and devastating scenes of destruction around houston. we have one to show you tonight. we watched at the neighborhood filled up with rising water. entire families rescued by boats with young childrenshiperi shivn the rain and they were shell shocked as one by one they were rescued by boats. we asked where are you going go and they said we don't know maybe to the local high school or shelter. there was a young woman on higher ground to open her garage to the families and an elderly couple. they're still waiting for a ride. angela you opened up your home to these people. you said your heart is heavy

tonight. how are you feeling? >> it's heartbreaking. seeing so many people they've had to leave their homes they've been in 20, 30, 40 years. they have seven, eight, ten feet of water and it's rising overnight and they've had to leave. they have nowhere to go and not sure where they're going and it's heartbreaking. it is. >> have you ever seen anything like this in houston? >> no one from houston has ever been prepared for something like this. it's catastrophic and -- >> reporter: you might leave your home soon as well as, right? >> i may have to leave my home soon which is not settling very well with me but it may have to be done. we'll get through it. houstonians are notorious for

pulling through in catastrophic events because we work together. not only houstonians but texans in general. it's a very strong community and a very strong state. we will get through this. >> reporter: angela, thank you very much. we wish you very well. sean, this woman a hero in the community and neighborhood tonight. she opened up her garage to so many people waiting for a ride. there's no local family. they're car is underwater and the scene is something we're seeing all over houston. we've seen people plucked from their rooftop. we saw a family yesterday leave their home and put their dog on a pool raft and we asked where they were going and they said we don't know. the rain continues to fall. saturating walls of rain continue to fall and the forecasters are saying it could last another day or two. you say to yourself where is all this water going. it's ending up in neighborhoods

like this. sean, back to you. >> sean: please send our love and prayers to all of them. this country will help them as we always do. joining us from the george r. brown convention center in houston where displaced storm victims are taking shelter, caroline is with us. have you some guests. what's going on there? >> reporter: they've blown by max capacity hours ago. the people are still coming. 5,000 people is what we were told they expected and they could handle but the busses keep coming. we've seen metro busses, school busses, people walking in on foot. we showed you the interstate on the backside and they're using that as a helicopter pad to bring people in. as they bring in they're getting a pile of clothes, volunteers are amazing. they've been bringing diapers

and formulas and cups and plates and underwear. everything families had to leave behind in homes they may never see again. it's a different scene than this morning. when they first got here we were at last capacity. people were happy and smiling and everybody was getting a hot meal. things are getting intention. we've seen a little bit of fighting here. but it's the red cross who greets them. they're here at the table and registering and taking anyone in. anyone who needs a spot no matter the capacity. you mentioned a guest sean. it's david brady joining us from the red cross now. what are you experiencing here? more people than you thought you'd have throughout harvey already here. >> it's a whole lot of people. it's been devastating for people. the red cross responds to disasters every day in the country but a disaster of this magnitude is something that requires us to rally our troops. i'm so proud to be involved with the red cross and apart this team and our staff and

volunteers. while there's so many people trying to get here, we are doing everything we can and we will accept everyone who comes to the shelter. we're not turning anybody away. >> reporter: but you're looking for another location, another mega shelter. if another location opens up can you get there and how quickly can you set it up. >> we have a great relationship the county and this is a mega shelter but we have dozens. we'll be up close to 100 shelters quickly. we work with the judge and mayor on where they'll be and what they need and they give us time to get set up. we don't want our guests these houstonians so devastated show up and not have someone put a red cross blank et around them and comfort them. >> reporter: sean has a couple questions for you, david. >> sean: first, thoughts and

prayers. you're sending god's work. i sent a donation and you guys are all hands on deck. i want to follow up on caroline's questions. this is important, will there be room for every person that's going to need shelter from the area, a. and we watched what happened with katrina. all food, water and medicine and supplies and security and cots and blankets, are there enough now available vis a vis your organization, other organizations, state and local governments. will have you everything you need so we don't repeat some mistakes from the past? >> well, what i can talk about is what's going on right now, sean. i appreciate you asking the question. i can tell you the red cross nationally in washington, d.c. is rallying around and getting corporations to support it and getting food donated and medical supplies donated and the finances desperately needed

about the process of preparing. there wasn't a lot of politics involved. it was just, we have a job to do and greg abbott to the governor and lieutenant governor and coordination with homeland security, fema's under homeland security, all the volunteers from churches, synagogues, mosques, all over the country they were pouring in. it reminds you of the best of the country. we're self-sufficient but sometimes we need help and we're independent but sometimes we need a helping hand from a neighbor and we need a coordinated government. we need all the high-placed officials not only nominated but confirmed at homeland security and all our major departments. we have crises all over our executive departments of staffing and this reminds us why we need more than acting

directors or deputy directors. we need everybody in place. >> sean: it's ridiculous how long it's taken and now it shows why this is important and why the senate needs to do their job of confirmation. i want to play a montage of some of the incendiary comments were literally friday night. a night all of america will be watching television. the media is claiming donald trump is hiding all of this big pardons to joe arpaio and i went through the pardons by bill clinton and barack obama. he served in law enforcement 50 years. the media acts like it was a friday dump which clinton and obama were masters at -- and we're literally a half an hour away perfect the -- from the

making bombs. now, there was more violence in berkeley, california this weekend. even the "washington post" noted this for what it was. they said right-wing. it's a bit of a pejorative. i have to give them credit that they pointed out they were peaceful protesters. what are we learning about the group antifa and the violence they're involved in and what they're trying to stir up in the country? >> this is pernicious. this antifa group is designed to carry out one agenda. that is to terrorize americans with whom they disagree from speaking out and exercising their free speech right. they want to terrorize communities. that's what they did in berkeley. police didn't do enough either.

>> sean: and i praised the boston protesters. they were peaceful when a couple tried to turn on trump supporters. the overwhelming 99% said knock it off. no violence. they were protesting against racism and bigotry. i applaud them. we saul stand against that. >> the peaceful left has to shut it down because it will hurt the cause of whatever the cause of the day is of the left. it will hurt them a lot. nancy pelosi, chuck schumer who spend their time calling names they need to be called on what's being done in the country. the antifa crowd is vicious and vial and masked like the kkk except more of them. antifa is masked and marauding and apparently intimidating

"hannity." hurricane harvey made landfall friday night and many are displaced and the storm is far from over. from weatherbell.com, you had this with pinpoint accuracy. 30% to 40% of the storm's not over, correct? >> the next 24 hours around houston are looking ugly. harvey's back over the water. fortunately there's a lot of dry air that will inhibit rapid development. i'm still worried it's over the warm gulf. but the feeder bands are covering northwest ward and they explode. it's a frictional effect and you

get a repeat of what we call training in and around the houston area. harvey is going to continue eastward underneath galveston late tonight and tomorrow and turn northeast. in the meantime the bands keep pivoting in over top of houston and piling on. there's a chance the storm starts to intensify and pulls the bands back in towards it. >> sean: how many more inches are you talking about? and how bad does louisiana get it? >> well, we are going for new orleans in an a little bit because of the fact they're pump 85% of new orleans itself. it looks to me like a three to five-inch rain storm in new orleans. i don't think louisiana gets it that bad compared to what's going on in texas. this is continuing to pivot over there. that pivoting process is going on. the wind -- i'm watching the

wind over galveston bay it's turning north and northeast. i've been talking about this, my worry is because of all the water in galveston bay the bay's enhanced because of the storm surge, the water comes in to galveston from the north because of the winds are now 25 to 45 miles an hour in the next 24 hours. virginia capes, 40 to 60 mile-an-hour winds. it's texas, this storm still has another 24 hours. it will make landfall i think wednesday and then continue out of there. >> sean: it's amazing we started this -- i talked to you earlier on the week on radio as we came on air and you're still saying another 24 hours. thank you for being with us. clearly it hampers rescue recovery and delays rebuilding. joining us now is rick perry. governor, i know you love this

>> sean: governor, this is really important. what was heartwarming is the collaboration between local officials and the state government and the federal government. seems like we're hitting on all cylinders here. do we have to worry about food and water and medicine and supplies and blankets and baby formula and cots or are you confident that will all be handled and everybody will have a safe place to stay in the interim? >> sean, this say very different storm. people are concerned how long it's going to last. how long the search and rescue's going to last. how long the recovery's going to last. i've seen texans respond time after time. i've seen this country when it really is working well together, which i'm really seeing that. the president's put a cabinet together focussed on this. the president's been leaning into this disaster from before it ever started. clearly giving the authority to

the state of texas to move and move quickly. i feel confident both the state and federal government -- but more importantly, sean, i'll suggest the faith community in the state of texas will play an incredibly important role. we saw franklin graham and his group what he's doing and there's the boy scouts and private citizens. i know story after story told about private citizens called up and asked for their boat and we need to you drive it or we'll take it and use it with law enforcement. no telling how many texans' lives have been saved because private citizens understanding this is neighbor helping neighbor. the local and federal government government have worked together
