lot of money to prominent democrats. what republican would donate to the likes of debbie wasserman schultz and other left-wingers that are out there, people on the left ? it sounds like a fake republican at a fake news network, more proof that the left is completely unhinged and is this why we have now diagnosed them considering they want to diagnose everybody else and we college trump derangement syndrome. the president did go down to texas, he did offer support and he did let millions of fellow americans who are suffering know that he will do everything in his power to help them. somehow the left in this country, the media try to twist and distort the president's words and actions to score cheap political points, very cheap points. texas has been devastated, they are part of our american family, they've lost lives, they lost neighbors and loved ones. so many others have lost everything they've worked for their entire adult lives, they've lost their homes. everything they own, this natural disaster is far from over. it's only the beginning of it.

lost their lives. where were the tweets about officer steve perez who lost his life at 4:00 a.m., took to the streets else to help americans. these are heroes, we need to rally around these victims, lift up the victims instead of tearing down the first lady because of her shoe choice, this is absurd. >> sean: in the media camp, i love the people who are media critics like that guy at "the washington post" ," with hs 30,000 30,000 twitter followers as if we care. he said he could do a tv show of his life depended on it. when it becomes this personal over the first lady, if it was a democrat first lady, if it was michelle obama and you talked about her close on national tv mount why do i know it would've been handled a lot differently. why do people who complain a monopoly of compassion, they claim to be on the right side of civil rights, gay rights, in this particular case on the side of women.

how did they get away with this? >> you have to look at precedence you have to look at sandy and the coverage around that with president obama and trump now. the elite here, is how has the president, fema, u.s. government, local resources, first responders. how have they done on the ground in houston and in that area? by almost all accounts, considering the circumstances, this is one of the most catastrophic weather events we have ever seen. the response has been as good as it can be. that should be the lead story. as you said to, we're talking about melania trump's heels of a thousand miles away that she was wearing before she even got on the plane. the best part is, the people who are making these sort of criticisms are doing from company studios in new york, washington, and out in hollywoo hollywood. there's a total disconnect. >> sean: there really is a disconnect.

we want to help people for 5 minutes for crying out loud, these people have lost everything, friends, neighbors, loved ones. what would it have been like if a conservative did say that about hillary clinton or michelle obama? remember how the media reacted, about having women's resumes he wanted to hire? >> you look after super storm sandy, president obama was in new jersey just two days after the storm. there was a glowing praise for him, there was glowing praise for how he handled that situation. there should have been, he does a good job. where is that same praise for president trump? i saw greg abbott get on this network and say i have never in my life had better coordination between a national government, a federal government and a state than i see now. i looked at the president, he said i saw the compassion in his eyes, i saw those care for these people. instead of giving president trump a moment he deserves and letting us come together as a nation, its criticism, it's tearing him down

it, it's unfair to the president was done a great job. it's unfair to those people in texas who are drowning in those floodwaters and the people in the mainstream media are focusing on high heels and stilettos. >> one big criticism that i've seen at least this evening has been a sound bite from donald trump. i've seen this often with this president where they take a three or four seconds sound bite and creates their own context and narrative around it. he said when he was at a firehouse near corpus christi, what a crowd, one of turnout. the entire transcript of those comments, it was very supportive of those people, it was the empathy people are talking about. he was promising things, saying he was going to get things done in the crowd of a couple hundred people cheered afterwards. if it reminded me of the 2016 election where on the ground there was one sentiment and the way the president was received in a certain area and then in the ivory towers in new york and washington like i talked about before, the commentary is completely different. >> sean: let me ask you this, by all accounts, you're right.

there are three components to any successful disaster relief. we watched neighbor helping neighbor, risking their lives, literally saving lives. we saw people with expertise, the military, and a former enforcement officials. they were on the ground. people like the cajun navy, these guys were amazing, neighbor helping neighbor. then you have the state and local governments, they've got to coordinate -- will have governor abbott on in a minute -- the only failure i saw was a democratic mayor who wouldn't take his own governor's call and wouldn't take the advice of everybody to tell the people to evacuate and said go back to your homes. that was a mistake. >> worse in coordination between local resources and the local authorities with the federal government. i would say it's been spot on, you're going to have your exceptions, but overall the president should be getting praise here and instead there is

devastated by this storm. joining us now on the ground from lake charles, louisiana. our own rick leventhal. i watched all weekend as well, i'm sure it's different for me when you watch up close and personal. >> were outside the lake charles civic center which has been turned into a mass shelter because of all the people have been rescued here, 500 people were pulled from their homes overnight because of flooding in this part of southwest louisian louisiana. they needed the bed space, they are ready for more because of tropical storm harvey is expected to hit this area over the next four hours, it could bring a lot more rain, the ground is saturated and ready to flood, a lot of homes could be in peril. that's why you have all the members of the cajun navy gathered in the parking lot as well. a lot of pickup trucks brought by volunteers but they are not all boats in the cajun navy as we found out. check out this polaris razor 1,000, it's been modified. it can go through up to 7 feet of water he tells me to go into these neighborhoods that are

flooded out and bring people out. they've got a boat underneath it that this razor can tow. behind it he's got another boat that his body is going to drive if antoine they get the call from the state that they need help. this guy is pulling an airboat, check out the monster excursion behind it. a variety of monster trucks have arrived here to join the cajun navy to get in there to these neighborhoods where people cannot get out without help. i don't know how you get in this thing without help, the guy told me you climb up on a tire but he wouldn't would live on television. there's another monster truck behind us there. the situation could be serious because they are expecting 40 to 50 mile-per-hour wind gusts tonight into tomorrow into southwestern louisiana. as the remnants of hurricane harvey, now tropical storm harvey come to shore. >> sean: say my hellos, i know some of the guys from the cajun navy i met them down when we

were in baton rouge come up send my best best in regards and thank-yous. if a journey may now with the very latest on the ground in texas, our own trace gallagher, what's happening there tonight? >> i could tell you after five horrifying days we got to glimmers of hope. for the first time in a long time we saw the son of this afternoon just for a short time. the flood of authorities are now telling us the san jacinto river which is a couple of blocks from here is proceeding, is fantastic news because that river has been in filling lake houston which is just behind us over here. i want to show you some of the homes, hundreds and hundreds, just one street over. i can show you some of the homes that are underwater. we just went out on a two hour rescue, we didn't rescue anybody but we didn't find out the people out there that do want to ride this out, they are staying in their homes even though their homes are half flooded. they made the decision to stay. it was risky because no one at the time a new if the water was going to go up and down, now it

appears their decision paid off because the water may be going down. we should note over the past three days, there have been more than 13,000 rescues by state and local authorities and just here today at lake houston, we watched more than 400 people be taken out of their homes and rescued. a lot of animals, even a pack of horses they tried to rescue today. the good news finally is that the rain is pushing out, still somewhat sprinkles but it looks like the brain is now moving out of houston. >> sean: thanks so much, you look at these images and you know that every one of those homes are gone. with the mold issue that would come, you're going to have to start to rebuild every one of those homes. joining us now, caroline shively, she's at the convention center. she is in houston tonight, i bet a lot of devastated people in many ways having lost everything that they owned, how's the mood and there tonight?

>> surprisingly upbeat. they're getting a hot meal, a blanket, a pat on the back, something they haven't had for days. some more breaking news tonight and it's a good one. houston is opening another shelter about 40 minutes from now. where the texans play if you know the area here, that comes after they open the toyota center. they will not be playing basketball there, they will be housing thousands more people. i want to take a look to show you what the scene is here, people are still screening in here, still register. if you walk in on foot they will not turn you away. people still being rescued, they are not taking the bus is in but they are taking the walk in. some great news, between these locations, they will be able to house 30,000 people much more comfortably. it got dicey earlier today, they didn't have enough cops. people were sleeping on blankets and slipping on cardboard, that seems to be changing with more

people coming in. >> sean: our best to those people, no there on our thoughts and prayers. governor, by all accounts everything i have seen, you have amazing people in your state, you are prepared at the state level, we have some problems with local people, it seems like coordination with the federal government and the president couldn't have gone better. i want to hear from you. is it as good as i sought. we learned a lot from katrina. >> the coordination at the federal, state, and local level has been as good as in a tragedy that we've seen in the united states. i spent the day with the president but today wasn't the first day that i talked to him about this storm. i talked to them again for the hurricane even hit texas. from the white house, to his cabinet, we planned to prepare for this days before the hurricane even came up.

then we mustered up resources and personnel, food and water and shelter. all across the affected area. this has been done because the president took action swiftly, early, coordinated with the state of texas in a way far superior than i have ever seen in the hurricane tragedy. >> sean: look at what the media goes, they are worried about she was. >> i want you to know, texans are genuinely appreciative of the way the federal government and the president have stood up and address the needs. if we are suffering here in the state of texas. with the president is doing is helping texans. >> sean: by my observations, the costs are incalculable in terms of the damage. i would assume the biggest challenges you have now, people are going to be homeless for a long period of time. in many, many cases entire neighborhoods are going to have to be rebuilt. when it comes to the immediate

need of food, water, shelter, medicine, cots, blankets. my friend at my pillow is donating tens of thousands of fellows. will you be able to immediately take care of the needs of all of those people? that's a huge undertaking. >> you talk about immediate, there's immediate and long-term. we need to address both braided on the immediate side, you mentioned one person who is stepping up with donations. i want to express my gratitude to our fellow americans by flowing intonations to us. we appreciated so much. it makes such a big difference in the lives of these people who desperately need it. through those donations, through the supplies we have built up, we have been able to address immediate needs of people and shelter. the big challenge is going to acquire when short-term shelter is over.

here the fema administrator has been very clear, this is not going to be a short-term experience. we almost continue to work effectively together if we can continue to build a pathway forward. >> i assume medicine is a big deal, dialysis a big deal. food, baby formula, cots, blankets, pillows, all of these things are immediate. they're going to be in shelters a long time before you can begin the process of giving them temporary housing before the rebuild begins? >> i spoke with the fema administrator. we want to make that time is short as possible. how we can expedite the movement from the evacuation center to short-term living. the evacuation center, we don't intend to last very long at all.

we are working to expedite this in ways different from what you've seen in past hurricanes. >> sean: what would that be? >> different short-term housing proposals that are offered up by fema. if it could beat things ranging from apartments to hotels, different types of locations. something different like an auditorium, where the rockets play. where the football team may play, we've got to get people out of gyms into genuine living rooms and bedrooms. >> sean: i remember after katrina, the families of houston opened up their homes. why didn't the mayor of houston take your call? how may times you call him? >> i called several. he had i have spoken. i want you to know that we've spoken and we are working collaboratively on a daily basis. to my office is communicating

with his office because we know that we are all in this together and we as texans are going to work together to address these challenges. >> sean: i personally have worked with samaritans purse, i sent them a donation because i know how good of franklin graham's organization is, i know you have the red cross. for those people around the country who want to help our family in texas, what would you like them to do? >> give to samaritans purse, give to the red cross. we will be announcing something myself tomorrow about what the state of texas is doing. you can say it tomorrow and donate to that. there are so many different ways people can participate. it's the generosity, support, the patriotism of our fellow americans that are making a big difference in these lives of people who have had their lives turned upside down. >> sean: you made a big difference and i understand texas as a $10 million rainy day fund, no pun intended. it's equal to almost the rest of

for you. under obama for eight years, we have 13 million more americans on food stamps. we had 8 million more americans in poverty, we had the lowest labor participation rate, the worst recovery and the lowest home ownership rate at 51 years and he doubles the debt. you tell me how democrats after eight years in power, of course obamacare is destroyed. if the health care system. how is that a good thing? show me where democrats are better and made things better when they were in power. >> you mention so many different things. let me deal with one. when obama was in power. you and others criticized him for super storm sandy. every time a democrat is in office, you do the same thing. >> sean: i never would have the first ladies she was. >> you called super storm sandy
