fox news tracking hurricane irma. that's it for us. tune in every night at 8:00. "the five" effect is next. have a great night. >> i'm greg gutfeld, with lisa booth, juan williams, jesse watters, dana perino. it's "the five." hurricane irma remains an category five hurricane, trudging toward florida, with expected landfall this weekend. what's up, adam? >> greg, the latest news that came in, governor rick scott in florida has ordered all schools, universities, junior colleges, high schools, elementary schools, all schools closed in the entire state tomorrow as they prepare for this massive storm, basically the size of
9:01 pm
texas, heading this way. the storm so concerning that people here in this area have gotten out. the reason people left a couple days ago in some cases was the video and pictures coming out of the caribbean in the last couple times. every time we see the new video, it's unbelievable the destruction taking place. right now in fact the destruction taking place in turks and caicos, we expect a video from there tomorrow morning when the sun comes up. everybody is worried about that island area, basically because there are no mountains there as well.ta it very flat. the storm surge, winds, the massive storm heading over it as we speak. a strong concern for so many people. if you're on the roads here today, roughly a day and a half before irma is expected to reach the florida keys, in key largo, the roads were empty. people were already gone. there's a few still locals around. gas lines, if you can find a gas station open, are long, and a lot of gas choices are down to one as people try to do we'll be
9:02 pm
right back this keep the fuel in their car. they locals that did stay are waiting till the last minute in some cases to evacuate. people we've met on and on and on here for andrew 25 years ago, that did so much part of destruction in this part of the country, they rode it out then. they're not going to ride it out now. the path is coming up the middle of florida, the bottom. the original track was thought to be the east of florida. now it seems the west may get it just as hard as the east. there's a lot off concern here n florida. rick scott has ordered all emergency services basically to go, i mean to get ready, because this thing is going to be a massive storm hitting this state. a four most people believe at this point. we've seen emergency services here, not far from where we're, key largo, the northernmost key.
9:03 pm
by tomorrow night at this time we'll be feeling the wind. >> thanks, adam. i love the sign behind you. chief meteorologist rick reichmuth joins us. rick? >> georgia, west georgia, to get out of the path. the storm, as adam was just saying, battering turks and caicos for the last six hours. what we saw yesterday from the virgin islands, the lesser antilles, as well as the turks and caicos, the strongest storm in that area at a category five making a direct impact there. all the models are doing the same thing. this hard right turn, we can't say exactly where it's going to go. something happened this afternoon. everything had been trending toward the east. then this really reliable model took a being jog toward the west. that made the national hurricane
9:04 pm
center adjust the cone a little bit toward the west. the point is, when you see one run like that, don't like to see it. it could jog back again. bottom line, everybody in south florida, you got to watch this. if this ended up happening we would probably watch hurricane-force winds extend the length of the peninsula. force force winds extend out 70 miles from center, both sides. that's about 140 miles. this right here is 90-100 miles wide in south florida, probably splitting it with hurricane-force winds across the begin peninsula. here's what else is going tha g. it's already a cat five. the water is incredibly warm.er watch what happens over the next 36 hours. the storm gets better organized, at least according to this one simulation. based off the water temperature here, and the situation that's happening with the storm, in
9:05 pm
fact the pressure has continued to drop again this afternoon, we could be watching this still maintain a very strong storm. so we always say don't look at the center of the storm. weay do kind of want to point it out a little bit, if it goes around the key largo area, everywhere to thehe right of ths we'd be dealing with a devastating flood situation as well as those winds. we were kind of hoping it would go farther to east. that's still a possibility. a little bit too early still to tell. we won't be able to say the exact path, guys, until saturday and we finally that right-hand turn. greg, one last thing to tell you. yesterday irma wentrm through te part of the lesser an till les as a cat five storm. this is potentially another major hurricane, hurricane jose,
9:06 pm
another one storm about five days s later. >> thanks for that. h let's not forget harvey. we saw a coast guard six downpour of cook passionate come action. the extremists who before could easily find a spotlight are left shouting at the bedroom mirror. so what's left? two operations. let's take this debt deal. i know. how dare donald trump make a deal withow evil nancy pelosi? conservatives are ticked. this is clearly related to the hurricane. what's he supposed to do? and should you be surprised he was a deal-maker before he was a republican? we knew that. it's one reason he won. trump does what suits him or what suits america. and that's the point. you can disagree with him on small stuff, but you think he
9:07 pm
gets the big picture, then so what. that america first stuff, what if he means it? then party line deviations are forgivable. he figures the food fights can happen three months from now, and they will. the media is shocked, but you're not. trump may know what america is looking for right now, and it's not and fight, not when you're reeling from two hurricanes. you want help. not haggling. the tips can come later when everyone is safe and dry. so as we unite to face these threats, i feel for the critics, but as rachel maddow said to chris matthews, darling, we'll always have russia. all right, dana, i think donald trump acted in good faith to keep the government going while dealing the disasters, but the conservatives, they go on twitter, they're ticked off, feel they were proven correct,
9:08 pm
that he's not really a conservative. do theyn have a reason to be upset? >> partly, yes. he wants to clear the debt to do other things he wants to do. i actually don't think you don't need debt ceilings anymore, because it always gets raised. they're supposed to be used in order to cut spending. that's what the republicans actually wanted to do. thato wasn't going to happen wn you have the hurricane relief happening at the same time. so i can see the frustration, though, because it was the treasury secretary that wanted the 18 months, and president trump didn't make a deal. he just took the first offer that was made. so three months from now, we'll be sitting back here. the reason i think there's also frustration, if you go in a plan, because you have the leverage against your opponent, you given that away, if the most thing is tax reform, you want that done before december, you have to another debt ceiling
9:09 pm
fight in december and it muddies the waters. >> speaking of muddy waters, jesse, don't you think, though, that if he had gotten bog down in this sort of thing it would look bad, and it may have been bad, because you're dealing with some serious devastation, and maybe saying, like, i'll deal with this now, i trust you later that we'll deal in good faith. >> i agree. trump got trapped this summer, and harvey gave him an escape hatch. he hit bottom in charlottesville, but he got a lifeline with harvey, because he recognized the spirit of unity that came out of texas and he seized on it and capitalized on it. he is a deal-maker. you say the president is like the weather, where he's swirling, always around. he's not i a idealogue. he goes into the debt ceiling battle, sides are dug in. he says, you know what, listen, we're not going to do this. he reaches across the aisle,
9:10 pm
shakes hands with the democrats, a signal to the republicans toin say, you know what, you better get your act together because i'm going to wheel and deal and triangulate. the republicans always lose on debt ceiling fights. they always cave. he did i it early and takes the hit. he gets rid of harvey, gets the money out there, he funds the military, and the governmentil keeps spending. at the same time thep next three months he can gond out and sell tax reform. what it does, it sets a huge intense showdown in december where you have daca, you have the wall funding. you even have obamacare fix. you have tax reform. that's going to be a huge fight. >> can i be honest? let's be honest. >> yeah. >> if mcconnell and ryan had come in to the meeting and said, you know what, we think we should take the deal that the first offer that pelosi and schumer are offering, then what would the trump supporters have said? they would have said, oh, they're the weak ones. this is why the debate isth frustrating, because you can defend this on either side, but
9:11 pm
let's be honest about this, if they had done this, you guys would have gone crazy. >> i think he was looking for a moment to say, hey, you know what, be bipartisan, and -- >> that's why he did that that to h the treasury secretary in e meeting? >> everybody's on board. i don't know if country has a stomacher for -- >> they weren't going to have to. the democrats were going to vote for it. >> here's the thing, too, republicans v have gone concessions before with the debt ceiling. we did it with president obama working with congress. the problem is democrats are going to do three months from now on issues like immigration and tax reform. >> then you have money for harvey coming in, north korea right now on the -- >> in all honesty, i think this is a shot across the bow to mitch mcconnell and paul ryan,
9:12 pm
because i think president trump is frustrated at their failure to get things like healthcare reform done. to be fair, this was not a deal, right? we talk about the art of the deal. this is not the art of the deal. this is the art of the giveaway. he give democrats everything they wanted. and went to north dakota saying he w won by 36 points, brought heidi hikamp out. you threw us a lifeline. this is the golden ticket. they'll use this in campaigns. >> and she'll lose to a republican the next election. i think he accomplishes both goals. >> i think bipartisanship we need more of it. i don't blame him for wanting to reach across the aisle. there's room for that with tax reform. i think that's the reason people electedm. him, they wanted something different. that being said, analyst not a deal. he could have done better. this was a giveaway.
9:13 pm
given the circumstances, he could have got more from them and he didn't. >> juan, i want to add this another piece, donald trump tweeting re assurances about daca at the behest of nancy pelosi.'v this should make her happy. >> she got him to go on the record. >> yeah. >> what strikes me in all h of this -- i'm sitting here, listening to you guys, and i'm thinking, boy, look at the republicans and how -- you got a republican majority in the house, in the senate, a republican president, and they've been unable to govern. now you see the factions splitting, and in fact trump accentuating the differences. i think -- you know, he had dinner with paul ryan tonight, but the fact is he threw paul ryan under the bus big time, because ryan said this was an unacceptable deal. he said it explicitly. you have mitch mcconnell up there trying to push the situation so that you can get
9:14 pm
tax reform did. that's what steve ma new chin was talking about. trump wanted to avoid a potentially explosive september and giving himself time. in fact, as you were saying, it now becomes more of an explosive situation in december, and democrats hold the advantage. >> even things with like the wall, trying to get the funding for the wall. he loses leverage in that debate because democrats could tie the debt ceiling vote to immigration and not getting things like the wall done. >> these are important issues if there were noo hurricanes. if there were no hurricanes, i'd go you're exactly right, but we have two hurricanes, and i think he said on good faith, i'll give you three months. right now let's focus on what's happening.. >> let me get this straight, because i'm looking into this
9:15 pm
other worlde here. you know, i'm saying to myself, you know, trump supporters will back him no matter what he does, even if he sticks his finger in their eye? >> i don't think trump supporters have a lot of sympathy for mitch mcconnell and paul ryan. >> it's not fair to be frustratedpa at -- >> wait a second. there's are republican leaders. >> if they led we would have obamacare repealed. >> how can they deal with in? numberwi one, i go back to the g picture, big thing. trump a few big things. number one, he beat hillary. that's number one. number two he got gorsuch. he reduced regulations, responded quickly to disaster. you're, like, i kind of think he gets me. i'm okay with it. >> the numbers among republicans are declining, even among his
9:16 pm
core g supporters. i think they feel he's disappointed them. then of course you have the constant tweeting and controversies that i don't think help to unify the republican brand. >> we'll talk to you about the republican party. you stick with the democrats. >> oh, yeah. you're in crisis. you're getting wet, i think, right now. >> all i know is enjoyed watching cnn have to admit what a great job trump did. >> how awesome was that? >> "wow. he did a. a good job.let's talk about " i was watching the presser, and they sat there, "can't beat that." >> can juan talk about how great of a a statesman the president s for agreeing with nancy pelosi and chuck schumer? isn't that what you want? >> the chuck and nancy show. i can't believe that republicans are sitting here, saying, oh, he did a great job. just wonderful. if i said that, you guys would
9:17 pm

♪ >> at the white house president trump a dined with house speaker paul ryan a day after the president made a spending deal we were just talking about with the democrats, and mr. ryan opposed that, of course. for details let's go to chief national correspondent ed henry at the white house. you were not a fly on the wall during thewh dinner, but what he you heard? crow was onnow if the menu, maybe a nothing burger, in honor of greg gutfeld because heu hates that statement so much. we did just get a statement from a white house official, saying it was a productive dinner between the speaker of the house and the president where they covered everything from taxes, the debt ceiling, to the budget, the continuing resolution to keep the government open. they needed a productive working dinner because tension has been growing because of what you mentioned a moment ago. what played out yesterday where speaker ryan basically had the rug pulled out from under him by saying the democratic idea on a
9:22 pm
three-month raise to the debt ceiling was unworkable. then almost moments later at the meeting at the white house the president does just the opposite, because as you were noting, the president believes it's smart to clear brush,an roadblocks, and get on to taxes andd other issues he wants in te agenda. speaker ryan before the dinner was trying to downplay the tension in an interview with martha mccallum. watch. >> the word was that you were furious. >> no, i wasn't furious. i have a belief on debt issues that we should, for the credit markets, have longevity on these things, but i completely understand why he was doing what he was doing. you expect the president to talk tooi other party. isn't it natural that a president should be speaking with leadership of the other parties? >> he wants to patch things up, but later in the interview it's interesting the speaker seemed to not like the idea the president isea talking about now about maybe ending the debt ceiling votes altogether so you don't rattle the credit market.
9:23 pm
ryan saying, look, congress has the power of the purse, and a mechanism raising the debt ceiling, tying spending to it, because clearly ryan wants that prerogative, but also he wants to show conservatives he wants to cute spending, because you have reports that steve bannon and others are looking at a potential replacement to the speaker. dana? >> ed, thank you very much. lisa, let me ask you. you work on the house side for republican members. tomorrow there's a house republican conference, mnuchin anminutiaemnuchinwill try to see deal. >> there's always leaks, so we'll see how it goes. for paul ryan and the president there are more things in common, common objectives, particularly with tax reform, as senator mike lee said, if republicans don't get tax reform done they're
9:24 pm
dead. >> i don't know why they keep saying that. >> why do you say that? >> everyonee says, if you don't get it, you're dead, which is probably not true. also you might not get it. right, jesse? >> then you're dead. >> i think republicans have to deliver on something i think the point of senator mike lee. i think they both have same objective to get something done on tax reform. i imagine that's the bulk of the conversation was. >> that's not what steve bannon thinkings. he has an upcoming interview on "60 minutes." take a look. >> the republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election. that's a brutal fact we have to face. >> the republican establishment? >> the republican establishment? >>. wants to nullify the 2016 election. >> absolutely. >> who? >> i think mitch mcconnell and to a degree paul ryan. they do not want donald trump's populist national agenda to be

implemented. it's very obvious. >> is that fair, jesse? >> it's a fair attack. he can say what he wants. he's not responsible anymore, so he can take shots from the outside. i can't tell if the republican establishment is just sloppy and discombobulated or trying to undermine the president. hard to tell when they keep messing things up. trump is not a deficit hawk. he wasn't elected to slash spending and reduce the government. he's always been a big spender. he's always been a builder. he doesn't care. throw it on the credit card. make america great again. yes, he wants max tax relief, but you'll throw in about $300 billion in hurricane harvey and irma spending. you'll also boost spending on the military. you have to fix obamacare. there's big ticket spending thes coming up, and president is not going to be blackballed by the freedom caucus deficit hawks in the house. that's one of the reasons i think he cut this deal to kneecap these guys, push it till
9:26 pm
three months out, and do it again with different types of leverage. >> that's interesting actually because the freedom caucus guys jesse is talking about, they're not the establishment. there's three groups within the tent. establishment republicans, freedom party, and the guys that came in with trump. it's difficult to get everyone on the same page. >> the other parties are the china shop and trump was the bull. it's a long-term aftermath. it's hurricane trump. he came through. there's all this debris. people are trying to figure out, how do i deal with this completely different animal? i don't know what he's going to do. we kind of predicted this was going to happen. i'm notno that surprised. >> he wanted to be a disruptive force in>> washington. he certainly is one. >> no question, but the thing of it i can't get over is that it's as if he's blameless.

equipment in the world by far. hopefully we don't have to use it on north korea. if we do use it on north korea, it will be a very sad day for north korea. >> dana, this is a different line coming from president trump. he's now trying to tamp down expectations that. he's going to deliver fire and fury. >> thepe reason i wanted to talk about this tonight, i think what you see him do is think about the different audiences that he has to talk about. so when he gave the speech in afghanistan, that was a very specific message, especially to our military. thatwa message today that president trump v was deliverin, i think, was meant for kimes jong-un ea's ears himself. he has a good team. he can't pick up phone and call him, sohe there's a way to do ts to reassure the american public, but also lets north korea know we're prepared to do something if we have to. >> greg, the president has
9:49 pm
proposed a global oil embargo to shut down north korea's supplies, but the chinese don't want to join in. >> that's the problem with the chinese. they've got to get involved. i've'v been saying this all alo. i think i was the first person to say this back in the earlyth '80s. the solution is it's a discussion. somebody needs to invent a marriage counselor for countries, where you bring the north korea guy, the american president guy, you sit them down. you go, okay, let's get this stuff out. you sit down in a room. let's get this all out. we'll have a problem list here. why should you point missiles to this person? what has he been doing here? why do you feel you should arm the southqu koreans? why do you feel threatened by him? maybe have rodman. >> send dennis rodman. >> or do a wife switch. >> you're referring to the tv show.
9:50 pm
>>ur you have to believe that km jong-un is a rational person, if you say we're going to negotiate with you. he's done 80 or more missile bomb tests since 2011. his father only did about 10 the whole time he was there. >> he may be rational, but he's still a teenager and china is parent. we're being played by china. 90% of the trade is through north korea and the chinese. they're evading sanctions through china. i think we're getting played. they're manipulating us, saying, you know, we got this, we're going toay use our leverage. meanwhile two navy collisions in the sea the other day. thathe seems a little suspicious to me. trump got elected as kind of a tough on china guy. he was going to slap them with sanctions, tariffs, label them a currency manipulator. all of a sudden, very coincidentally, he gets into office, and north korea starts acting up, and all of a sudden we need china. meanwhile we're so distracted on
9:51 pm
the korean peninsula, who knows what china is doing in africa, central asia. they have us totally where they want us. say what we need to do is -- someone said this the other day on fox, but i'll take credit for it -- you threaten to label the bank of china a money laundrier. what does that to a bank, it total decapitates the bank, can't raise capital, almost creates a run on the bank, china's largest bank. that's the only way to get the message to the chinese through a financial sanction. >> i think they have.. steve bannon, before he left, delivered a message. he said there is no military solution, because, guess what,be all of south korea would be gone. >> and secretary mattis said this is a war we do not want, another saying that north korea is the most difficult intelligence target, do we know where everything is? on the china front, the trump

administration has sanctioned banks, banks and individuals, both legally and illegally, whob conduct business with the north koreans, butut my only concern with that is ambassador john bolton said north korea is an economy, right? it's aof waste of time. they're a prison camp. the concern here, out of everywhere -- i'veou listened to military advisors, reading on this, we don't have leverage. i thinkh that's the biggest point. kimer jong-un, as long as he haa nuclear arsenal, he has leverage, because he's keeping us in fear. what is the military option? massive life of human life in south korea with dense population in seoul. what's the leverage? >> i think we have leverage. the question is how to use it.h you have to think about the consequences with the chinese. it's not just we're acting against them. they cang act against us. guess what. we are the usa, the number one military power. one more thing up next.
9:56 pm
>> one more thing. if you've been watching the show this week, you know i got pretty upset about president trump's decision ending daca. protecting theeo young people brought here illegally, but as children from deportation. guess what, i'm not feeling upset. according to a few polls, 82% of democrats and 60% of republicans favor having people who came tot
9:57 pm
the u.s. illegally as children stay here and gain legal status. another recent poll shows the majority of trump supporters want the young people to stay. the bottom line, let me cloak stomach it's a hardworking moment in our history that shows lack of mercy and goodwill. >> i remember one more thing being politics free and reduced a big fund that we can't debate. we can debate on that. but we can't because it's one morein thing. >> there's nothing clinical about that. watchpo these people try to geta cat out of the kitchen. >> catch him! catch him! maria will you stop looking at the door? [laughter]
9:58 pm
there you go, they caught him! >> you take a quaker oats canister, duct tape it to the end of the broom and you go to the corner and he goes right in. we have to do that and allentown, don't ask me why. speaking of animals, i can remember. i'm not doing the animal thing. i'm doing this. spotlight on alan. jeff block is reporting on the upcoming irma and you have to watch this adorable child in the background. there he is. this kid is the next start until his parents -- go back to dana. >> giving people advantage and professional sports. we saw the red sox and yankees rivalry in "the new york times" saying the red sox were cheating, stealing signals which is not illegal unless you're
9:59 pm
using extra devices like an iphone watch or something like that. now thed red sox say they have video of the yankees doing it using a network camera. pretty soon, we are basically going to have technology fighting eachch other. >> what a great thing that will be. robots fighting each other. > why do i think the red sox are so bogus? >> a houston police officer with terminal cancer helpedd save 1,000 harvey victims after he was diagnosed with stage iv colon cancer back in march of 2016, doctors told him he had 6-8 years to live, but despite himself being sick, he still risked his life to save nearly 1500 people. the 24 year50 veteran of the houston police department, venture into floodwater and intense rain to save all these people. god bless you bert lehman, praying for you and your

recovery and staying strong. you.less >> that's at for us, never miss an episode of the five, hannity is up next. >> sean: thanks to all our friends on "the five." welcome to "hannity." this is a fox news alert. what could be a catastrophicic strike from hurricane irma with two nuclear power plants directly in the path of this hurricane. also, georgia, south carolina, north carolina are racing to prepare for the impact from the strongest storm ever reported in the atlantic ocean. this is absolutely a massive hurricane moving all across the caribbean. leaving a path of total destruction in its wake.ne president trump is now saying fema, the federal resources are all on the ground. estimated at this point to cause over $100 billion in damage. tonight, rick scott,
