are feeling. that obama failed them and that president trump inherited what is going on today. he didn't create this. he is speaking truth about it and that is what they don't like. they don't like being called out. colin kaepernick is quite arguably not talented enough to play in the nfl but yet he is wearing this costume around, kissing his biceps, making himself into superman when he, in fact, can't complete a pass and that is why he is not playing in the nfl. look, there are other players will take any and do all these things to get attention for themselves and for what they believe in and their cause. i just say as a 20 plus year season-ticket holder in the nfl, i don't like it and i can tell i'd like to burn my tickets when i see it. abby: will happen today? people will be watching these games and will be many more than decide to deal with what does
5:40 am
the nfl do because they have struggled with ratings going down as the president has tweeted and they are not watching because of that kneeling. what will anna failed do? >> these nfl players have the right to speak and so do nfl patrons, the ticketholders, the season-ticket holders like myself and the people who go to the games and they can speak with their wallets and the nfl will understand one thing. that's what the president was saying. let's speak with our wallets. they want to kneel, we can tell them that we don't appreciate the disrespect to those who have died in service to this great nation by their kneeling and disrespecting our flag and our national anthem. pete: that will be the interesting part. economic consequences for the most. abby: david, good to see you. still ahead, newt gingrich. we have a panel of nfl players all live on the show. pete: nfl owner should fire players protesting that and him and after the president says.

5:46 am
here the nfl and the teams are private businesses. in fact, if you look at these standard nfl contract which every player has to sign, it specifically has a clause that says if you engage in expression and conduct that is detrimental to the team in the nfl you can be immediately terminated. pete: each team could interpret it differently, right prospectus like different copies interpret different causes. one team could fire a player for something that another team would allow. >> right. the same goes for us here at fox news and espn. the recent controversy there. we can be fire for things that are embarrassing and detrimental to the company. that is the way private businesses operate. the first amendment doesn't extend to companies and private businesses. griff: here is the problem. this is about race. if you fire these players they could make the case that they
5:47 am
were racially discriminated against and my question to you is what they have a case? >> i would disagree that it is about race. it is about conduct and expression. look, in america anyone can file a lawsuit however, without merit it may be. yes, the parents untrained players unions if they were fired word fire a determination race termination lawsuit based on the civil rights act of 1964. yes, businesses cannot racially discriminate in the workplace but that is a lawsuit without merit because the nfl would argue weights, were firing the person not because of the color of their skin but because of what they are doing. griff: exactly. conduct matters not just how you play on the field but off the field, too. colin kaepernick had a difficult time getting rehired because
5:48 am
because he can't complete a pass but because he drives commands out of the seats or takes eyeballs away. that hurt that team. >> which goes to the point of the contract. given the calls for boycotts of television viewers of nfl games boycotting the games themselves, nfl team owners who are entitled to make a profit may start to lose money. that would be detrimental. it is also detrimental to their image, as well. pete: are beheaded, let's get a protection, will this play out in the court? >> no one has been fired yet. colin kaepernick, david made a great point, he's not a very good player anymore. he used to be used to be and that's why they nfl owners are saying we don't want him on our team because he's just not a good quarterback anymore. i would expect somewhere down the road a lawsuit to be filed
5:49 am
based on race but again, it has nothing to do with race. it has to do with conduct in expression. griff: lawsuits always expected in litigation. greg jarrett, thanks. pete: we have our counselor here keeping a straight. former speaker of the house newt gingrich joins us live at top of the hour. lauren greene is helping you take your on the go. she's talking to abby but i'm sure it is insightful and shall be inside the studio to tell us all about it. next. you always pay your insurance on time. tap one little bumper and up go your rates. what good is having insurance if you get punished for using it? for drivers with accident forgiveness, liberty mutual won't raise your rates due to your first accident. liberty mutual insurance.

abby: we have a new podcast out based on her book, lighthouse faith. here is a preview. >> the idea is that whatever you commit to, commit to but don't live in a fog of not wanting to know. if you don't commit your heart to believing in something you will believe in anything. abby: we all need to hear that right now. lauren joins us to tell us about the lighthouse faith podcast. i love that you say there's a spirituality and every single story we talk about today. >> i didn't know that until i wrote the book that there is a spiritual side to every new story. we talk about the nfl and it's about fundamental trust. under whose authority are you basing your life. what do you believe is not a concept, or does he create and affirm your life choices or does

it have a reality to which you mold your life. it's based on the life that we will move forward in prison love and the reason why one of the unique features will be that the person being interviewed or persons in the discussion will be in the studio with me and that's one of the rules because we were talking about truth and love. truth is primarily verbal, right? you can talk across continents were true love is primarily nonverbal. you really have to be in the same room with someone to recognize their humanity. abby: you feel that connection to have a better understanding of where they are coming from. you talk about politics today and negotiating and going on the white house and capitol hill and how important it is for those leaders to get in that same room and face each other face-to-face. here's where you're coming from and here's where i am coming from and can we find common ground. >> we only hear about the
5:55 am
conflicts in washington but senators and representatives on both sides of the aisle meet for bible studies once a week and they do play together. we don't hear about it often but they do. they get a lot of work done in those prayer meetings for their meeting each other face-to-face. one of those important things about faith and understanding god as a reality is that we are made for relationships. we are not made to win an argument. one of the illusions that doctor john rankin tommy was that don't make winning the argument so important that you lose the relationship. make the relationship most important and then try to find a way to communicate your truth in a loving manner and bring them along. don't work to insult or create conflict through communicating your truth. abby: this cannot come at a more important time. when you think about where we are in this country and how it is so divided and how easy it is to get on twitter or social media and to shout back and forth at each other. >> absolutely. it's not just people but families. families are being split apart because they can't talk in love. they can't talk and communicate with loved ones. a lot of people are split down the middle in terms of families
5:56 am
and i know this is going on with a lot of families. if we can actually show how you communicate and how you create a loving environment when you don't actually agree with the other person -- i had doctor paul talking about the protestants and catholics and they don't get along too well sometimes traditionally and historically. i never had someone so nicely call me a heretic. it was wonderful. today's avenue on the couch pretty enjoyed having you here. stretch out, maybe watch a game or two and see if they even show the countless players that will take in me today in the nfl. abby: if you're an inquiry to see my players behind him and the start of friday night when president trump was in alabama campaigning for senator luther strange in a heated election against raymore. as he often does come he takes you places you never know it's going to go and he went there to commemorate to the nfl and the players that have been kneeling many in doubling down. he treated this morning that if nfl fans refuse to go to games until this dr. seuss identified in country, you will see it take place. ratings are way down, but many stayed because they love our country. pete: here to get, this morning, newt gingrich, former speaker of

the house in 2012 gop presidential candidate aeschylus fox news contributor and author of the book, understanding trump. not predicting trump. no one could have predicted that he would start this confrontation when he spoke those words on friday. tripling down this morning, when the take of the president going after the nfl and folks who will stand? >> i think i understand his frustration. playing the national anthem goes back 155 years. 1862 during the civil war, inaugurated a new baseball in brooklyn, and they played the national anthem. all sorts of sporting events. he was unifying theme that brought us together as americans. whatever disagreements as republicans or democrats, we'll come together to love america, reese decked america. for most of us, watching young guys who are multimillionaires
6:04 am
explain the country hasn't been good to them, watching them refuse to honor the symbol of those who have died so they could be free is very frustrating. watching the nfl leadership which can worry about things like how many people are dead trading after a touchdown but they can't worry about whether you should respect the united states of america. i understand why the president did this. you can argue his particular type excrement that millions of americans look at these very arrogant young millionaires. who think they should now basically inflict their politics in what has been historically nonpolitical month. i don't tune into a football game of baseball to worry about politics. i tune in to watch sports and be entertained and i frankly find it very offensive. the next stage on the left in the next act of cowardice by big business will be to quit playing the national anthem to avoid the
6:05 am
confrontation. i'm doing a course called defending america and the whole point is the last day by day is undermining and destroying what you and i have thought of as america and this is an example. trading for you have a gift for seeing things through. are we witnessing now but a seemingly offhand comment from the president in alabama, which has open a national debate between picture you take them, what we stand for activism and those that feel oppressive in this country for various reason. are we witnessing a moment that will have great impact going forward? >> this is the beginning of a very big debate we desperately need. we watched the left encroach again and again on college campuses, at the enemy from a late-night television with so-called comedians. over and over again they have exhibited their dislike of
6:06 am
america, hostility towards america appeared out of go back to these young men who are multimillionaires. they are not exactly impressed. if they want to take all their income and give it to a left-wing nutcase group that is their right. go ahead and be an active citizen. if they want to go in the off-season and martial people who are crazy, that's fine, but when i'm watching a football game, don't impose on me your sense that somehow even though you're a multimillionaire and have opportunity is almost nobody on the planet has you feel oppressed. we're multimillionaire who feels oppressed come you need a therapist, not a publicity stunt. abby: you are speaking for a lot of americans when you speak about your frustration. the president touches things that are very sensitive that leaders don't often want to touch that are controversial. as he said, it's a conversation that needs to be had. the nfl, many get behind
6:07 am
players. bob kraft is the latest one, the patriots owner, someone who early on as a supporter president trump. i'm deeply disappointed by the tone of the comments made on friday. i'm proud to be associated with so many players who make such tremendous contributions positively impacting our communities. no greater unifier in this country in sports and unfortunately nothing more divisive than politics. i support the right to raise awareness in a manner that they feel is most impassable. your thoughts on that. >> he's got a good writer. he's a very smart guy did what he said at the end of this paragraph is what condemns the players doing this. this sport should be a unifying thing. why is the nfl -- the nfl doesn't mind stepping in to say you can't have more than one player celebrating a touchdown. go give you a penalty for doing
6:08 am
that. how we got to do is say to the players come and be respectful of the national anthem and the flag on behalf of the many americans who died defending your right to become a millionaire. if you can't be respectful, don't come on the field until after they've had the opening ceremony. pete: not to mention the dallas cowboys who wanted to place details or stickers after five were assassinated in the nfl said you can't do that. why can't roger goodell feedback commonsense perspective that would play a game for a living. this country affords us the opportunity. this is a workplace and inside those lines and senate can respect your country can stand up and play. if you want to protest the other six days go ahead. why can't they take that approach? >> the elites will never take on the left or their social friends on the left.
6:09 am
watch what i just said. if we allow this to go down the road, their answer will be let's avoid the problem by no longer play the national anthem. that's the direction they'll go one to appease the most disruptive, the most left wing. abby: what will that do to the viewership? we oppose people are not watching anymore because in many cases because of the kneeling. >> the nfl leadership has a real challenge now. if they decide they will side with those -- i want to reemphasize. we are not watching college students or people in poverty. you're watching people who'd been made millionaires by america, lines of extraordinary opportunity. you think they'd be grateful to the country which has protected them, made them walk the comment given them freedom. if they want to be totally left when you give money to left-wing candidate, that's fine with me.
6:10 am
i don't think they should have a right to break up since 1862 a national tradition. 155 years have been playing the national anthem at sporting events and these guys are the first step towards driving the national anthem of modern society. pete: mr. speaker, not just the nfl, also the nba. stephon curry said i don't think i want to go to the white house. president trump saw he made the statements in figuring invited. golden state warriors put out a statement alongside the south korea sameness. we are not going to the white house. we believe there is nothing more american than the citizens having the right to express them selves on matters important to them. we decided we would use our trip to the nation's capitol in february to celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion, the values you embrace as an organization. quality, diversity and inclusion. it reads like a left-wing rap
6:11 am
sheet. >> first of all, didn't they just win a championship? what is equal about winning a championship? they are not equal. they are number one, proud to be number one. pete: what about the wnba? that's not equal. >> all this left ring roderick, but what has made america extraordinary as we reward winners. all the guys complaining the nfl are winners or they wouldn't be on the field. the guys complaining in the nba are winners. when they talk about equality, and i'd like to know, somebody once said we've got to take the super bowl bombarded trophy in each week on a different team. even the worst team in the league at least get there for a week so they feel better about themselves. that is where the left carries you to what their version of equality. there shouldn't be winners and losers. the essence of sports as there are winners and losers. you've got to study hard, work hard, part is hard and we should then recognize you as winners.
6:12 am
in a way that is kind of a funny press release. griff: let's talk about hypocrisy. tim tebow took a need for different reason. are we looking at hypocrisy and the way he was viewed, praising his faith in jesus christ. >> of course you are. an elite which is essentially anti-religious and will not take on the hard left. developing an entire course online cod defending america because i concluded unless we're prepared to take issues like this and tell the truth, the average american doesn't realize we've been doing this since 1862 during the civil war. there is a deep american tradition which i was very proud of and i feel very sad to watch this handful of people begin to break up and i feel sad at the cowardice of people like roger goodell who will preside over at the american rather than take on young players who as i said
6:13 am
earlier are multimillionaires than among the most privileged in america. train to it used to be left right and we agreed on this comment. now they've gone so far that the conservatives are left defending the nature of america. abby: you make a great point that we have to have these conversations. they are not easy, sensitive, difficult but they have to be had in the sky to find a way to come together. really great perspective. so glad to have you on this morning. drink to moving on now to a fox news alert. prices in puerto rico. still endanger this morning. geraldo rivera was there overnight to get there for show live in san juan next. >> the president should fire players who protest the national anthem. what do these players think about that? all live straight ahead.
