how president trump has dealt with the nfl and what has been happening at nfl games on twitter and the president's comments friday night and how the public should basically boycott nfl games in washington over people taking a knee during the national anthem. it even spread to the nfl games in london. the kickoff with president trump's words. >> obviously we saw double down on twitter. at 9:30 a.m. eastern time is not something we see on a sunday so was tardy to see reactions early this morning. we saw it in major league eightball, obviously number of major league baseball games to take place in the next 30 minutes. we'll see if other teams will be react to them as well. a number of coaches come out and everyone is reacting.

essentially letting the president speak for themselves thereby president trump is doing, what he has done from friday, saturday and now sunday is advocating for the boycott of the nfl if owners refused to fire players to take a knee during the national anthem. let let one of the speak for itself. the latest from president trump on twitter. his latest quote is nfl plans refuse to go to games until they stop disrespecting our flag and country. you will see change take place. fire or suspend. we saw administration officials to kind of flush out those remarks. treasury secretary stephen mnuchin was of course talking about tax reform in the white house latest push for that. instead, he was asked exactly why is the president picking this fight and why is he picking it out? listen to his response. >> you know, the nfl has all different types of roles.

you can't have stickers on your helmet. you have to have your jerseys tucked in. what the president is hanging is that the owner should have a rule that player should have to stand in respect for the national anthem. this is not about republicans. not about race. it's not about free speech. they can do free speech on their own time. this is about risk back for the military and first responders in the country. reporter: said the administration is standing firm, but of course as we see all day long, players and owners are outraged including one of president trump's very close friends, the owner of new england patriots, bob kraft. he put out his own statement this morning and it reads, i'm deeply disappointed by the tone of the comments made by the president on friday. players are intelligent, thoughtful and care deeply about our community and i support their right to peacefully effect social change and raise awareness in a matter they feel is most impactful.

spot right now. really just over the last 24 hours, pretty unbelievable this is not the top story today. and yet here we are considering with the north korean foreign minister said yesterday, he said president trump calling the north korean leader kim jong sub one makes our rocket visit to the entire u.s. mainland inevitable although more. after president trump for those remarks late last night or maybe even early this morning after midnight, he put out a response to the north korean prime minister's statement on twitter and here it is. just heard the foreign minister speak at the u.n. if he echoes thoughts on little rocket man, they won't be around much longer. there is a lot of fear this back-and-forth on president trump in the north korean leader, two leaders of the big ego. a lot of fear the back-and-forth is simply gotten too personal. the treasury secretary asked about it this morning.

debating the legislature about religious liberty, protections in that state. roger goodell said we're pulling out of georgia, maybe atlanta if they do that. now you have folks taking names. the president puts the fuel on the fire. this is bigger than president trump in being a republican or democrat. this is national unity and they have the right to take a knee if they want to take a knee. people have a right to speak out as well including the president and frankly, a lot of americans, myself included watch the nfl take positions seemingly against the police in dallas. we see them get involved in a political debate in georgia and suddenly they come out and are very indignant americans are angry about the fact people are taking a knee. americans look at them and say no wonder the rankings are tanking and we hope some point the nonsense demanded we can enjoy a football game a side of

politics. >> i want the opportunity to respond. josh brought up a good point they sports of coors is to unify. politics divide. there's not really much right now that brings people together when it comes to politics. at the same time, it seems like the waters are getting muddy. the two are really becoming one. >> well, i would say the president has been able to unify the players and the owners in the nfl, which i think a lot of us never thought we'd see happening. they fight against his comments because frankly this is what the president should be focused on. we have an international crisis in north korea. we've got all kinds of domestic and international problems. i should be the priority and that is part of the frustration people have with the president waiting in here. why put this at the top of the agenda given everything else we've got to deal with in this country. it just seems to be out of whack whether he should be spending his time and attention.

>> that's a pretty valid point. you've heard a number of people speak out, supporters of the president. you saw the jacksonville jaguars on her come and he's a huge contributor. we saw bob kraft, rex ryan saying they are disappointed. what is your response with a focus on north korea? >> focus on health care. ted cruz is not going for so the bills not going anywhere. >> i agree there are bigger priorities. we need to pass the graham-cassidy act and move down the field, no pun intended to repeal obamacare to get individual mandate and deal with north korea. this works both ways. the president should not make you the top of the national agenda. he said something at a rally for luther strange of alabama. is a red meat to an audience that was fired up and now the nfl has taken a position in acting like he's forcing them. if the president tried to issue an executive order and somehow

try to stifle first amendment rights, that would wednesday. the president is not the only person putting us at the top of the agenda. you see people across the spectrum, particularly to the left as if he's some sort of tiring for having done it. i think we need to worry about health care reform. this is an issue of political myth that's been going off a long time and the president is the only corporate hearing to make this a big distraction is turned out to be. >> i want to pause this to talk about the steelers, for example said they weren't going to come out at all. we have the fresh video and we will get your response. ♪

[national anthem] ♪ liz: so our viewers know, there was one player, a member of the pittsburgh steelers, alejandro villanova if i'm pronouncing that correctly, he served in the united states army. he is the one player who did stay on the field. as you look at this, now we are looking at dolphins and jets video where we see the players are responding in different ways. the reason i bring you in is because this is the new normal now. are we talking about how players are responding to the president's tweed as opposed to fantasy football in how they are dealing in each respectively. >> i think it is hard to say. this is going to be a tempest in a teapot, an issue that will probably flareup for a few weeks and then go away if i had to guess. the president trying to change the subject. he's failing on foreign policy.

and on the domestic agenda. the reality is that this is where the president is trying to do. it was not just that he had a rally. he treated about it over and over again. is driving the debate. the reality is that the president has the bully pulpit and this is what he's driving not and it's just not what we should be talking about is a country. leland: 15 seconds to respond. >> china feels as if we share a continent, but not a country. if we can agree on standing up for the pledge of allegiance or the national anthem to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom of all races and back round, what can we agree on? this is a big deal we can't even agree in this country anymore than saying the pledge of allegiance or standing for the national anthem to honor those who made the supreme sacrifice of freedom.

we are not even talking about these particular issues. we now see the president with response from nba, nhl, all sports. baseball as well and what is about. what is the story really about? are people angry with the way things are in life? that seems to be a widespread talk going on. a lot of anger. where are the issues? >> to your point, it is clear a lot of people are angry. what they are angry and outraged over is as vast as their responses on the field today. the nfl is a business, an enormous business in america and the owners have responded universally. their commissioner did yesterday. bob kraft, good friend of the president responding. i'm deeply disappointed by the tone of the comments made on friday. no greater unifier in sports and

unfortunately nothing more divisive. bob mcnair, comments made by the president for divisive and counterproductive to what our country needs right now. in the last 45 or so second tier, was that the conservative sort of concentrated effort brought together by a coalition of owners or do they seem to be acting independently as far as you can see? >> people are acting independently. roger goodell met with the executive director of the players association for several hours yesterday and reached out to philadelphia eagles malcolm jenkins who has been holding up his fist during pregame anthem protests. they are trying to get this together from my perspective the universal response that seems to be very similar. the atlanta file can on the sidelines at their players. we saw today in london what took place. everybody stood for god save the

>> metropolitan national police are responding to a shooting at a church in antioch, tennessee, 30 minutes southeast of nashville. authorities say they've received calls to burnet chapel church of christ a little after 11:00 a.m. central time. they do say one suspect is in custody. see a picture of the church there. authorities say six to eight people have been shot and transported to the university medical center but have not commented on the extent of their injuries. this is a very sensitive time. a lot of details coming out that we are unable to confirm. on the phone is former d.c. detective and contributor ted williams. thank you for joining us. i know you are working with little information we can confirm without these two sources. i want to ask you, what is taking place right now? authorities responded to a shooting. 68 people have been at least injured. what are authorities working with right now?

>> elizabeth, and to determine number one if they have somebody because you say we don't have the whole picture right now. if they have somebody in custody they try to determine what is the motive behind the shootings? someone who's already familiar with the church or is it someone in the charleston or south carolina area that came into the church and shot these parishioners. >> i'm so curious from a detective standpoint when you get this phone call, all hands are on deck. what takes place as soon as we hear in an event outside of the church. >> the first thing is to try and find out is the shooter active or someone actually taking the shooter into custody like when i
