will -- roy will campaign in december. heather: president trump said he will campaign in december. rob: here to weigh in founder of american majority and former presidential writer for president george w. bush, ned ryan, thank you for coming on this morning. >> good morning, guys. >> roy: thank you. this was a big win for roy moore, of course, he didn't have the backing of the president in a state that loves the president, how did he pull this off and what does it mean? >> well, i mean there are a couple of dynamics that were played in alabama. first, this is really about the people of alabama saying do we want a former corrupt governor and the dc establishment or are we, the second dynamic was, is this really a bit of rejection of mitch mcconnell, lack of leadership in the u.s. senate and pushing forward the agenda. if you look at those two

dynamics, i think, if luther strange had not accepted that appointment in governor bentley -- rob: who he was investigating. >> luther strange would have been a shoe. that's the tone for 2018 and various primaries around the country. if mitch mcconnell and dc establishment can spend 30 million to protect luther strange and loses by double digits, nobody is protected anymore. heather: let's take a look at the final tally, luther change 4.51%. won by 44,000 votes. did you expect it to be that wide of a margin and what does this say, a lot of people were saying that it was bannon versus president and bannon won this round? >> you know, this is -- i do think it's about trump voters saying, listen, president trump we love you but we love roy moore more. the second point is, i had been

calling for 5 or 6-point roy win. i saw the numbers yesterday and bumped it up to 10 or 12. i think it would have been 15 minutes if president trump had not come town and rallied on behalf of luther strange. rob: it certainly was a healthy victory. >> it was one of those things if you saw the poll numbers and look you realized that roy moore was going to win. only thing i needed is to understand how much he was going to win. rob: i have to ask you real quick, i was trying to figure out the time, it must have been a request more mcconnell or favor that mcconnell needed this. go out there and go for our guy luther strange because everybody -- it seems like trump would have naturally gone roy moore all the way and everybody was trying to figure out why does the president like luther strange because he's not

establishment? >> that's right. i think roy moore, this is a dynamic that president trump should fully understand. last year understanding that people wanted more of an outsider, not a dc establishment person. 2016 was all about that then and we are seeing it continue to play out. i think president trump got bad advice. hopefully this morning he will wake up and examine who is getting political advice. do not listen to consultant class. i think that trump going forward needs to understand. there are people in dc that do not have best interest in mind therefore do not listen to their advice. heather: we will see what happens in the midterms. rob: thank you. no food, no water, no power, a very dire situation in hurricane ravaged puerto rico. this has been happening for days now growing more desperate by the hour. heather: white house stepping up recovery efforts as president

aspire it to be. heather: well, these supposed calls to action are also being followed by even louder calls for impeachment. joining me to weigh in fox news political analyst, thank you so much for joining us this morning. first question is, what is the point now, we begin can colin kaepernick, he had one point, is the point now to protest donald trump and are we losing the initial message in all of this? >> it absolutely is. i will tell you, heather, nfl players are taking taking the ly out. if the initial intent was to protest racism which we can think of the democratic party, they would have been in the hill with me and leaders of 2020 of america last week as we were going capitol hill lobbying people like senator chuck gassily in favor of criminal justice reform. this has become nothing more

than antitrump demonstration and it's problematic, at this point where there's division seemingly everywhere, we need a time to get together and time to get together generally usually when it comes to watching the nfl and other sports teams. heather: in essence the democrats are doing a disservice by taking it over and making it about donald trump instead. in terms of the divisions, you know, people blaming president trump, people blaming the football players, people blaming democrats, who is responsible and who can change it? >> you know it's interesting in terms of this protest. now we have to be very honest. president trump has made a lot worse than initially was and putting his name in the hat with this has caused a bit of a stir and one thing that president trump has to know he's not a president or celebrity where he puts his voice -- heather: along with the language he used as

well. >> the b language was rather disgusting in my view. the miami has been hijacked and completely antitrump demonstration, jackson lee who is in favor of criminal justice reform, according to sources on capitol hill, every time there's a bill that could make changes she's generally speaking against specially if it's a republican proposing it. heather: how do we end this, that's what i keep asking? is the media perpetuating the story. we keep talking about it, how do we end it? >> it was interesting that i was on air with neil cavuto and i was discussing the church shooting which no one heard about if you heard fox news. heather: distracting. >> whatever is going to be a distraction, whatever is going to divide us more is what they want to focus on and not the things that impact our country and individuals with in it.

heather: welcome back to "fox & friends first". a fox news alert is where we begin the taliban claiming responsibility for a rocket attack targeting defense secretary james mattis while on a trip to afghanistan. you're looking at new video of the airport in kabul where fox news has learned that nearly 50 launches rocketed shortly after mattis left. he had left the scene. it is being reported that only six rockets landed near the airport and there were no casualties. rob: most importantly the defense secretary did get off safely. first trip to afghanistan since the president announced a new military strategy there and, of course, we are still getting information on the story. stay with "fox & friends" as the breaking story does develop. heather: but right now from the sidelines to the house floor,

heather: the majority of people, 64% of people say they should stand and maybe the others need a history lesson. rob: that's right. reminds me so much of the monument debacle that we went through a one or two ago where everybody we wanted to tear down the the national monuments and it was more understanding of people of anything that was for a -- a confederate leader was understandable but then they started talking about taking down monuments of people like george washington and people like madison who owned slaves and people were resoundly against that. heather: the other thing that we talked about yesterday, back in 2009i found it ironic that the obama administration paid the national football league to be patriotic, they had to stand for the national anthem then because they were getting money, but now they want, you know, this to happen and it's not equal on both side as you were saying. rob: that's right. that's very true. let's look at another poll, here

the national anthem a place to protest, 31% say they support the right to free speech and to do whatever you want even during national anthem. 9% unsure, didn't want to touch it as you might expect. >> now it seems that the whole miami has been hijacked by democrats so perhaps there's a different place if the football players do want to continue with this purpose of, you know, racing awareness of racism in america. rob: here is former secretary. >> i don't think people know american history. i don't think they know the story of the flag, for instance, frank key, it was still standing. i don't think they know the memorial over there where the guys are putting the flag up there and i don't think they know unless they saw the movie

wealthiest americans 39.6 to 35 and doubling the standard deduction, that's some of the basis of this. i think the idea is we are going to cut taxes on everybody, people say how are you going to pay for all of this? we are in so much debt. he wants to get the gdp up. >> we want to grow the economy for two reasons, one is putting people back to work, but two economic growth can help pay for tax cuts as well. there's people challenging the story, whether that's going to work or not. that's going to be the battle in congress. how many people can you get on board with this idea that we are going to get more growth? the president is focusing on business tax cuts because that's where he see it is real growth potential. rob: you will have bernie sanders screaming the wealthy corporations, private-jet guys getting ax -- a tax rate, blah, blah, that's part of the reason we are 20 trillion in debt. >> that's the biggest disappointment of obama

administration. the president right now is saying, enough of that, i want to cut taxes, put money back in people's pockets and business' pockets so they will invest and hire people and get the economy growing. rob: the health care situation has sucked. the president -- it's a loser for the republicans right now. they can't win on it. they needed to move this months ago in my personal opinion. let's look at proposals and talk about something that they can win on. eliminating state tax, alternative minimum tax, i can't talk today, expanding refundable tax credit for child care or dependent care, that sounds more like ivanka idea. allowing business expensing of investment, one-time repatriation earnings, talk about the last one. >> trillions of dollars sitting overseas the companies aren't bringing back to the united states. we have ridiculous tax rate. one-time low-tax rate.
