and welcome to "americas news headquarters". i am eric shawn. >> i'm arthel neville.the present also tweeting about an ingrate among the war of words with the mayor of san juan after lashing out at the marriott stepper criticized the federal response to hurricane maria. the rhetoric escalating just days before the president visits the island. and kristin fisher is live in new jersey standing by. but first, we are going to san juan with mike. >> hello there. dylan san juan, the name of the game is wait in line and hoard all you can. still 11 days out at the storm this is the situation where this particular supermarket weight is only a half-hour. across town at the sam's club it is three hours. the last managers clear of the parking garage so people can wait in the shade as a way to get the basic necessities of life. also, the gasoline lines are four hours long!

officials talk about the improvement there because it is gone from nine hours. you'll still spend four hours burning gas just to get up to the pump. of course, none of that happens without cash. telecom is still not back online so cash is king. it means people had to wait in line at the atm. somewhere around one hour at the atm but you have to burn gas driving london to find an atm that is working. >> it is worth it. it is worth it because if you don't have cash you are not buying nothing. and we are running out of supplies. it is a big problem here. gas is not a problem. supermarkets are running out of food and i guess you go in there is nothing there and it is just sad. >> one of the things that you may be able to hear is aircraft in the background. we are across the street from the luis munoz marin international airport and what

we are seeing today is commercial flights coming and going so that is the sound of progress. back to you. >> that is a good sign! mike tobin live in puerto rico. meanwhile we go back to kristin fisher now live in new jersey near the president private golf club with word from the president.hello kristin. >> hello arthel. today the president is greatly contradictory his own secretary of state said less than 24 hours ago. telling him to save his energy and that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with north korean leader kim jong-un. the president said quote - be nice to "rocket man" had not working 25 years. clintonville, bush failed in obama failed. yesterday it declared that the diplomatic options have returned to the forefront for the trump administration but now it sounds like the pendulum has swung back in the favor of military options.

at least according to the words from the president. the other thing that the president has been tweeting about today is puerto rico. and he is just furious at what he describes as fake news and politically motivated ingrates at the direct quote -, criticizing the administration's response to the hurricane relief efforts. so today, the administrator of fema was on "fox news sunday" to defend what is being done to help the millions of people still without power and supplies in puerto rico. >> is not only a logistically complex event just getting to the island and being able to support an island that was hit not just by one major hurricane but two of them within basically in a 10 day period you can only put so much into an island pre-storm. because if you push into much of the storm may damage it. >> is the president arrived today at the golf tournament, macarthur accusing him of perhaps playing too much golf

and politics and not enough time in helping the people of puerto rico. democratic senator chuck schumer. >> the bottom line is at least for the first week and 1/2, the effort has been slow footed, disorganized and not adequate. it is not just me saying it. general buchanan said he does not have enough troops for materials. >> president trump will be traveling to puerto rico on tuesday to see for himself what the fema administrator is calling and i'm courting this, the most logistically challenging relief effort ever in the us history. >> kristin fisher, thank you very much. >> and a deadly attack and a pair of violent incidents investigated at this hour. possible acts of radical islamic terrorism. first, a man accused of killing at least two women in southern france at a train station. while in western canada a car attack and a van attack hours

apart. ices flag found in one of the vehicles. we are standing by now with details on the incidents. hello anita. >> hello there everett. some terrifying moments as two women are dead and at least four others are injured in what looks to be back to back terror attacks. first in canada, take a look at this dramatic surveillance video.this is happening in edmonton in the western province of alberta. a car going through a traffic control barricade. slamming a police officer and sending him flying 15 feet into the air! this is outside of a canadian football league game during military appreciation occurred after the officer hit the ground the driver got out and began to stab the police officer with a knife. >> totally unexpected but he has the entire police community behind him and is doing well thankfully. it is important in these situations for police not to be running all over the city but

to measure their doing things methodically. and that is what they are doing. >> the suspect was arrested a few hours later after a high-speed chase with you all. the suspect drove through streets and swerved intentionally to hit pedestrians. at least working for her. an islamic state flag was found in the drivers car. across the atlantic in the southern french city of marseilles a man wielding a knife outside of a train station attacked two women and killed them both. sneaking up behind one of them and slitting her throat. stabbing the other to death.a number of media outlets are reporting a man was shouting -- god is great in arabic during the attack. there just happened to be a number of french soldiers patrolling the area protecting against potential terror incidents and they shot the man dead. again, both incidents are being read investigated as his act of

-- as acts of terror. for medical star o.j. simpson is now a free man. he was released this morning from a nevada prison after serving nine years for his conviction in the las vegas armed robbery case.simpson was granted parole at a hearing in july and has said that he would like to return to florida where he lived before the conviction. florida's attorney general says simpson is not welcome there. >> we have gone back and listened to the entire hearing. his laughing during the hearing and we have also looked at his, other than just a complete lack of remorse, he wants to come to florida and galls all of our state and i do not want that to happen! question claudia is joining us from reno nevada with the latest. >> o.j. simpson it was released from the prison and a midnight media event orchestrated not by his lawyers, not by his friends but by the nevada department of

corrections. prison officials were intent on getting the money shot of him leaving the prison so that they released a picture of him signing his papers and then queued up for him leaving. [video] >> they told simpson do not come back and he replied, i do not intend to. he was whisked away and a black suv. it is not known who was at the wheel or if anyone else was in the car or where it went. he was sentenced to more than 30 years for a botched armed robbery in las vegas. he was granted parole in july after serving nine years. the parole board was not allowed to consider his 1995 acquittal for the killing of his ex-wife and her friend. simpson told the parole board he was about to florida. but officials that they have

not received paperwork for his transfer. at this hour simpson may be with his good friend from naples florida. they also say he may be hanging out with golfing buddies in a gated community in las vegas. he also said he has relatives in fresno and sacramento. he is on the list but where he lands and where he eventually will surface is of course a story we will continue to monitor. >> thank you claudia. eric? >> after all of the pro football kneeling during the national anthem, it dominated headlines last week. now the nfl teams are back on the field. coming up, we will look at what the players did. plus secretary of state, rex tillerson, doing what he can to find a diplomatic solution with north korea. but the president tweeted, he is wasting his time. coming up, we will examine what to make about those mixed

department of defense accelerating response efforts of puerto rico. hoping to get aid and supplies to isolated communities cut off by the devastation from hurricanes maria and hurricane irma. it has not been easy. listen to the fema administrator. >> you had to be able to pump them down the roadway systems. we been working desperately to get them open. we have 11 major highways open but this morning there are over 3200 different problems reported with the roadway systems from bridges missing, roads being blocked by floodwaters and roaches disappeared because of landslides. having to work through all of that. >> joining me now with the retired captain bob wells of the u.s. navy. also former national security advisor to vice president dyck

cheney, captain wells, thank you so much. >> thank you arthel. >> i was at first of all, if you can tell us what is the military in charge of and what is the mission once they arrive? >> we are in charge of direct support for fema and the national response. it is an important mission in building the capability and capacity it up for coordination to be done. what the military really brings to the scene is leadership, logistics and also better surveillance capabilities they can really see and support fema with regard to the relief efforts. >> and what is the mission once they get there? pretty much they have a methodical way of getting the job done. >> it will be very deliberate. there will be some urgent missions which will basically take care of urgent situations to get people into their hospital care, medical care and also urgent food delivery. to support the fema and distribution centers. they will bring helicopters which are needed in all of the

disaster circumstances. whatever the mission is, having a lift capability going to a particular point to deliver critical aid and water. medevac to either hospital are sure now that we have this coming is critically important. it will be coordinated. better control, better relationships with fema now that general buchanan is down there with regard to military response. >> windows will not be an easy task. give us the real deal captain. what are the challenges of the military will face there and is there any way to assess how long the preliminary phase of the recovery efforts will take? >> it will be a difficult challenge. obviously as you see the administrator talk about in terms of logistics. it is being able to have the roads clear, the good news is that they have had some airports open i think about eight different airports.the seaports open as well. but it is getting the hub where

they go to deliver this and it will be the real challenge with the roads. also to be a little bit more focused on the priority areas and where they are. they are getting a lot of health obviously from the civil patrol during surveillance and reconnaissance missions. even general buchanan husband in san juan and he flew out and looked at actual devastation. now that we have a military commander with eyes on firsthand getting the information that is coming in with a greater degree on each day.you have a better operational picture and you will be able to provide logistic support where it is needed.>> that is very encouraging to hear. i wanted to ask, we know that you have laid out for us what we can expect in terms of step by step in puerto rico. what about outline island life transits what about the outer

islands? >> they will be deliberately planned. in providing aid and relief. we also have a big deck coming in, there will be three of them delivering support where they had need. and a hospital ship there as well. they will be able to come out and provide the help that they need. either bringing people back to the ship or going out to them. this is a deliberate and planned process. we are only the beginning and logistics will be a big part of this. you still need reconnaissance, leadership and teamwork that will be joined with fema. >> 10 point captain wells, not only what exactly the military

will be doing but can you tell people that are watching us, they have family or friends there. the department of defense is stepping up their game. what words do have for everyone one watching? >> we are with you. looking at the actual heartfelt empathy and sympathy for the people in puerto rico. i have been there many times during my career and different areas. they are great people. i think looking at the devastation presented at the fema administrator talking about with the two hurricanes that came through. it will take a little bit more time. we certainly know that it is a challenge. we are with you and we have increasing capability and we will scale the capacity on the military side in order to better support fema and able to better support the national guard and civilian leadership. the governor as well as the mayor of san juan to support the human needs of puerto rico.

>> thank you very much captain, we always appreciate your analysis. >> thank you. >> the trump administration sending mixed messages on north korea. rex tillerson raising the possibility of diplomacy to help solve the nuclear showdown after the us is in direct contact with north korea. and the president calling these negotiations a waste of time. undermining rex tillerson, is that part of strategy to keep up with the pressure? plus, republicans on capitol hill really feeling the heat on passing tax reform.after a failure to repeal and replace obamacare. can they get it done? and can they get the president a major legislative victory? >> the real details of this are they looking at the middle class to pay less and it is easier for them to pay.

congressional republicans putting on a full-court press for tax reform. and in effort of repeated failures to repeal and replace obamacare the stakes are high. on "fox news sunday" budget director mick mulvaney saying the plan will give the economy a shot in the arm. >> we need to have the growth chris. if we simply look at this as being deficit neutral you will never get the type of tax reform and tax reductions that you need to get to sustain three percent economic growth. we really do believe that the tax court is what's holding back the american economy. >> caroline is live in washington with more. >> hello there. the president says tax reform plan would result in a middle-class miracle. but officials and opponents are not fighting over who would actually get the tax cut. the middle class or the rich? this is the bottom line from the white house. >> we are designing a tax plan for the united states of

america. this is the federal tax plan. we are designing a test plan to deliver middle income tax relief to americans. >> of the nonpartisan tax policy center came up with this match out of the plan showing who would pay what. the center says if your household is in the middle making between 48,080 $6000 then next year you'll get an average tax cut of $660. not bad! but if you get more than $730,000 they cut 1 and a half percent. then you save almost $130,000 in taxes. a big difference! the tax policy center also estimates the plan will add $2.4 trillion to the deficit over 10 years. admission officials dismissed the report saying that the report makes too many assumptions and does not take into account any potential economic growth. but democrats are jumping on it. independent senator bernie sanders said this is a reverse robin hood plan. taking from the middle-class to give money to the rich. >> the framework of this

proposal is not something we can support. the truth is right now, that the wealthiest people in the country doing phenomenally well and it is time we asked them to start paying their fair share of taxes. not give them tax breaks. >> the senate will meet almost every single republican ãthey will need every republicans impassable. they say it looks like it as -- >> thank you. >> and conflicting messages from the trump administration on north korea. rex tillerson admitting there is direct communication between the us and kim jong-un's regime. raising the possibility of diplomatic talks with pyongyang amid heightened nuclear tensions. today president trump raised eyebrows by tweeting this. quote - i told rex tillerson our wonderful secretary of state, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with little "rocket man". then he added, save your energy rex! we will do it has to be done.

judy miller, fellow at the and fox contributor join is not. it seems the president is contradicting the secretary of state so what do you make of this? >> well, donald trump is always hard to tell but rather than lead to conclusions, let me have a benign explanation which is perhaps donald trump is sending out deliberately mixed messages. perhaps he wants to be the babcock and let rex tillerson the secretary of state who was trying to be getting the back channel talks going and by the way, something seems to be going. so you have this good copy and babcock thing. that is the benign explanation. there are several other competing explanations. one is that secretary rex

tillerson who at one has been rumored to be on the way out for a long time is not getting the tom price treatment. the humiliation, the not-so-subtle tweets pushed from the president. softened by the blow of wonderful secretary of state. but it could also be that donald trump is just spending too much time at the 19th hole of his golf course! we really do not know because it is president trump. >> estate is the first explanation. which in some ways it seems to make sense because here you have rex tillerson in beijing with leaders and the president you know it's like the guy behind you saying, you know, if you don't work something out then i have the big baseball bat. and we have a tweet from the state department today which says that basically, this is the message it seems directly to kim jong-un. it says diplomatic channels are open. but they will not be forever. so that is not a subtle message

to stop your behavior and sit down and perhaps talk. >> is not a subtle message eric. we've seen his next messages before. remember secretary of defense, james mattis saying that we have quote - military options available to us. no one seems to know what those might be. that would not harm the people of south korea or endanger our troops in south korea. for japan but the problem with north korea is, and here have to give the president a break. he inherited this mess from a succession of republican and democratic presidents that have tried to solve the korea problem and have not been able to do so. and we have a young, 33-year-old dictator who is racing ahead in his military program to try and get a weapon that the united states will have to pay attention to as an instrument of regime survival. let's just hope that mr. kim is

actually intent on self-preservation as opposed to suicide. hope that they are right. let's stand back also and ignore for the moment, the president's tweets and look at what is happening on the ground. at long last there seem to be some back channel talks going on. this would be a good thing as rex tillerson said, everyone and i assume he means the president in that as well, needs to lower the temperature a bit. >> judy, the talks -- there is a point that you talk about the president inheriting this. he just had a tweet in the last hour expressing the exact situation. this is what he says. being nice to "rocket man" has not worked in 25 years! why would it work now? clinton failed, bush failed and obama failed. and he adds ominously, i will not fail. and he had the party talks, 90 for the food deal with the

clinton administration it was that took a lot of oil and money and lied and continued their program. given the president george w. bush as a sign of generosity perhaps took them off the state department list of terrorism sponsors of terrorism and look at will be shot! does the president have a point absent potential war? >> i think the president does have a point on this. nobody knows how to handle north korea.and if the president is sending mixed messages deliberately, then i think this message eric, and hope you agree with me on this, is saying just as much as china as it would be at north korea because china i continue to believe, is enormously influential in terms of what mr. kim decides to do. i am not saying the chinese can tell the north koreans what to do. clearly they don't seem to have the ability that they can make life very painful should they

choose to do so. >> do think they may painful enough? they have taken steps. we saw that at the un two weeks ago. it will cut off the banks that do business with north korea. there apparently doing something with oil to stop some of the oil trade. 30 percent or hundred percent. do you think that beijing, clearly they can do more. how do we get them to do that? >> well, perhaps you get their attention by scaring them to death and making them think that president trump is truly capable of going down the military past. >> do you think that tillerson, i mean that is a type of conversation i had yesterday with chinese leaders? saying, look, the boss is tweeting this stuff. this is what he thinks. you know if you can read lips between them, he is saying this

is what he is tweeting. if you don't do something you're in trouble. >> you need both. you need kim jong-un one to decide that the price for his nuclear is asian and missile program is too high. and you need china to determine that the price in terms of its relationship with the united states is too high if it lets kim jong-un continue down this path. this is a truly difficult foreign-policy challenge and i tend to get the president more leeway and be less judgmental on this issue then i am on many others. precisely because of what we have been talking about.the failure of every other administration to change north korea's calculus and thinking. >> finally, what if that does not work? supposedly the murder of kim's half-brother and uncle as they were sympathetic to the chinese point of view. >> it is at that moment that i'm glad that i am a humble or

exposed personal data of some 140 million americans. the ceo at the time seen here, richard smith has since retired. now the interim equifax chief executive is apologizing on my new plans to fortify the credit reports giant digital system and improve customer care. they include adding call agents and expanding customer service training. extending the deadline for the free credit freeze that they are offering consumers until the end of january. also giving people access and control over their credit information.for more we are bringing in dominic the president and financial advisor for diversified financial consultants. good to see you. >> how are you? >> i am well. i have to ask, how does this happen in the first place and how can they fix it and can consumers trust whatever safeguards they put into place? >> look, just in the last couple of years we saw

companies like target got hacked with everyone's credit card information, lives in the irs in half. we see the dnc get hacked and just recently the securities and exchange commission. it should not shock anyone equifax not only was have to completely unprepared apparently. >> you think the new safeguards they will put into place to make us feel safe? >> i think it should make us feel a little safer but ultimately time we had to put into your own hands and take responsibility to do it ourselves.you cannot depend on just equifax or any of these other companies to do their job. we have to keep our own eyes open and be vigilant. >> then, your information was grace, how do you find that it happened? can or access in some way?if it was, what can you do about it? >> first you should not equifax website and here is the important points. no one understands, do this with a secure computer. because if your computer has

been hacked and you want to equifax link, you can be opening the back door to your information. once you on the website will put in the last six digits of your social security number and i will tell you whether you have or have not been hacked but take that with a grain of salt because i don't think they are 100 percent sure yet who has and who has not been hacked. >> okay the website is equifax security 2017.com and he said to put in the last security. from your. >> yes stephen then is not certain. you necessarily know because it may not be on the list. will they assist customers whose information was exposed and consequently, maybe having trouble getting loans and eccentrically. >> they have already offered, and again whether you have been hacked or not, you should take advantage of the free one year

service that they are offering. i've had quite a few clients have tried to do this to equifax website and it is not easy to use. it is not simple. but try it and make sure that you do it. he will give you a day to come back and lock in. make sure that you go back in and enroll. having done that, take on additional responsibility to monitor your home as they do that? let's start with you should go to all three services that offer credit reports. transunion, equifax of course and experience. the website there is annual credit report.com. go on that, it is free and check all three of the credit services. make sure nothing there has been hacked or is inappropriate here is. >> is that a little more easier to navigate?>> my understanding from client experience it is a little

easier. that will provide you a free annual credit report. >> what is your identity was stolen in this process? it is always tough on the victims to prove their actual identity. will or should equifax help those people and also we spoke about this earlier, how can consumers get more control over their credit information?is it as simple as going to the annual credit report.com? >> let's inform everyone that these people that hacked into equifax got your name. they have your address, they have a social security number, they have your date of birth. in some cases they have your driver's license and other sensitive information. so they can very easily create an identity. they can reprint, re-create your credit card and he is a big credit card. you have to look your own credit report. you have to look at your own credit cards and bank accounts to make sure that somebody is not getting into the back doors stealing your information.

both sides. with baltimore today the ravens and the steelers briefly took a need for the national anthem to the sound of loud booing. and the miami dolphins stood except for three of their players that kneeled. all three men then steeled for god save the queen. now the saints kneeled before the anthem and stood during it. three kneeled while turning up again the cleveland browns had at least nine players stand but raised their fists during the playing of the star-spangled banner. it has not been easy for players past and present this week. ray lewis got heat for annealing during the anthem in london last week. an online petition demanding that the team remove the statue of lewis outside of the ravens stadium for quote -
