heather: mary lou daily could be the key. rob: live team coverage. heather: beginning with adam housley with what we hope to learn from the woman who shared a home with stephen paddock. >> reporter: those tributes pushing investigators to get as much information as they can from danley. we were tipped off yesterday she was coming through lax and coming here. you see the plane landing in los angeles last night, taken from one plane, the intention was to go to another plane, here is what happened. she is not officially in custody, she's a person of interest and federal agents are helping las vegas police trying to get her back to las vegas so they can continue the investigation. what happened is in las vegas. all this comes as we hear more

trying to help those innocent victims as they healed themselves and attempt to shield themselves from that gunfire. a terrifying scene. this as we learn the identities of some of the victims, 59 people in total have died, 36 victims at this point including a kindergarten teacher, mother of three, mother of four, a man described as a loving husband, father, grandfather, two army vets, tragic stories as we learn the identities of these victims. there were a bunch of vigils last night, a scene of healing, and emotional scene. there were a number of different ones throughout the las vegas area and the strip as well. we want to let you know in the midst of this chaos a lot of people making phone calls to the family trying to find them. listen to this father as he tried to find his daughter. >> sound like firecrackers.

perpetrator is trying to influence the behavior of population or policy and the government, force a change. we don't know what the motive is. an expert in counter terrorism in israel who has seen this many times said there is a formula for terrorism, motive and the ability to act on that motive. we don't know the motive. heather: a lot of people immediately online saying this is obviously a case of terrorism, domestic terrorism, why are you just calling it a shooter, a murder? i myself said this was a case of domestic terrorism but it has to involve more than mass killing of a lot of people. >> this is a mass murder but is it an act of terrorism? need to know what the motive is.

weapons completely banned over there but still violent criminals are there to implement time, same in america, baltimore, chicago, st. louis, all these places written with violence but implemented more and more gun control as the years have gone on. the policies are not working, we have to change to solutions the focus on individuals behind the guns, not the gun itself. heather: obviously people are looking for answers, desperate for answers not only in the motive as to why he did this but how this happened and how to keep it from happening again. on that front you can understand people looking to try to do something to keep it from happening. >> absolutely. it is understandable. one thing i love about what this

room, told the police chief, very upset these photos got out, the only people who had these were the tactical team. the media got admonished for showing these but they are so far out there, the weaponry in this hotel room, i am told by the team that went in it took almost an hour all told because of the location, on the floor above, at that point, the gunman was now dead talking with the sheriff yesterday and those on the staff at the sheriff's department and police department, they are heartbroken over what happened but the investigation appears to go forward. >> the fact that he had the type

of weaponry and amount of weaponry in that room was preplanned. >> the investigation includes mary lou danley who is on us soil, she was flying back from the philippines and you see the van at los angeles international airport, moving her to a different location. we are told the plan is she's not in custody. so far she has been cooperative. the idea is to get her to las vegas, there is a lead in this case, federal agents, helping them to get her here, we don't know if she has come to las vegas yet. that is being kept under wraps to get her back here as quietly as possible. i am told they don't want to spook her to the deck as she won't speak anymore and they have several things they want to

show her including going back to the crime scene. heather: hard to imagine she didn't know he was amassing those weapons and guns. meantime brand-new body cam video showing las vegas officers racing to get people to safety as the cold-blooded killer unleashes a hail of bullets. where the gunfire came from and help the people who were trying to cover away from those bullets. when you watch this video you see the terror and chaos going on in those moments. it was in those moments, 59 people have died, we are learning the identities of some of the victims, 36 people we learned of including everyday citizens, recent college graduates, mothers, fathers, families, people trying to get away from that gunfire and a lot of them couldn't including two army vets as new pictures are coming and that are creepy and hunting to look at. you see darkness and the debris scattered out there, people had to run and drop everything, you see purses, chairs, shirts. images like that are hard to see. we do want to tell you about a las vegas police officer who was killed trying to save other people. >> one of those brave people with the metropolitan police officer, officer hartfield was at the concert as a civilian,

immediately took action to save lives. in that moment he was acting as a police officer. he ultimately gave his life protecting others. >> reporter: whether it was police officers on duty running into that gunfire or police officers off-duty who happened to be at the concert enjoying time with friends and family it is a really horrific scene, took a long time for people to get past. heather: he wrote a book about what it was like to be an officer in las vegas. >> brand-new images from the crime scene revealing the shooter installed cameras inside and outside his hotel room, that card, and attempt to see, to try to knock down the door.

happen, we saw the same planning with groups up there. this is someone who spent a lot of time, planning, key behaviors similar to how you do a terrorist attack but this was a sustained kinetic attack. rob: no history of violence, scary to think somebody is so good at something like this when they have shown no signs of it in the past, to have an elevated level looking down on the concert, everyone -- we have seen people trying to commit mass homicide and get a few people killed, this person was technically proficient in this heinous act and it is a scary world to be living in. >> now that the fbi and other folks are looking at his computers come we will see how

he did this. did he do research, have communications with other people? some of the 9/11 hijackers, was there a mentor, someone he was talking to, how did he purchase the equipment, electronics, computers help us piece together how this guy got the word. rob: was he a psychopath with no reasoning or was he motivated? did the hotel staff miss anything? should there have been signs? one of my friends, how could the maids have missed all of this in the room? you could just tell the maids not to come in. >> this is a discussion i had with tony shafer. i taught at the national security agency, damage assessment agent and why did this happen? what were the warning signs? we saw the 9/11 hijackers, the 7705 train bombers. they came together, did reversals, did brought a target

that will help if other hotels decide to do that? >> it is a natural reaction to want to do something, anything in a situation where we have such a horrendous massacre but i don't think you can secure the united states of america. we are one giant soft target. think of the number of places where people gather en masse, every concert, every sporting event, every mass transit system. every place we have more than a couple dozen people will you check the surrounding areas to make sure no one can get to a high ground and shoot down on people, that is what the secret service has to do to protect the president and is a massive undertaking. i don't know if that is the solution. rob: every time something happens we have a reactionary proposal to not let that happen again. we are never ahead of the game.

you get a shoe bomber you take your shoes off at the airport. it sometime you will have to take your pants off in the grocery store. when do we start getting ahead of this problem and trying to solve the real problem instead of reacting to whatever they do next? >> in some cases sadly you can't fix everything. the world is a dangerous place. people are not all good. we can't assume there is some magic solution to death and destruction. it has been going on since time immemorial. you can look at the person and people are already in scented to if they should see something say something. if someone seems crazy or acting in ways that make you concerned, tell law enforcement. we tell people to do that and the other solution is everyone wants to look at the modality. do we ban trucks if people are running over people? do we ban guns because that was what was used? you can't do that without amending the constitution and i don't think that is something we

are willing to consider. heather: if they don't use a gun they will use something else like a truck or something like that. how do we get ahead of it? >> a question of people being more vigilant to the people around them. we will find out what the girlfriend do. i don't think there's any question she knew this guy was around the bend and something bad was happening. why was she out of the country? why was her money going to the philippines? if she knew something was wrong why didn't she tell law enforcement? he seemed to be a loner and she may have been the only one who could stop this. this is the likely place to get ahead of this, the personal angle. knowledge of a potential shooter. rob: hopefully we will get an update from police. heather: just last week. we will be right back, stay with us.
