readers who share fake news online. is that reasonable? should they be to blame? an interesting topic. here to debate it, joe borelli and liberal analyst kathy, thanks for coming on this morning. i don't know where to begin. kathy, we will start with you. the idea of going after people who are retweeting fake news stories. >> everyone wants fake news to stop. trying to warn people don't tweet as this, it is not accurate. fake news did possibly put trump in the white house, fake ads, it is scary. i think the former chair is trying to pass this regulation to warn people not to repeat fake news. i don't know if it is going to work but it is fantastic in theory. >> the election commission trying to figure out a way to

stop the influence of fake stories. the biggest problem is people don't know they are twoing fake news. people see these stories they must believe them to send them out. >> let's be clear what this is, the latest episode in the attempt to silence people who have views they don't like to hear. the out that a regulatory board could intimidate people from not sharing a political message is not the powdered wig on thomas jefferson's head. this is sort of absurd. this combined with what we see on college campuses lately begs the question whether the democratic party is for free speech. rob: you are tying it to silencing the opposition. let's focus on stories we know are fake because on both sides that does a great disservice. if people are voting based on

stories that are not happening, that could mean the demise of our system. you could control population with fake stories. >> absolutely and that happened during the election, fake stories did control the population and possibly gave us president trump. he complains about fake news but that got him into office. rob: that is a big statement to say fake news is responsible for the election. >> we don't know how much fake news is put out there. rob: you can argue there was fake news on both sides of the isle. >> it benefited trump much more than hillary. >> we should start with the screen you had up with fake stories. these stories range from whether trump with the listing russian escorts to the disney robot at the hall of presidents. i don't remember any journalist resigning over a retracted story in a major news organization against obama. it was a different standard of care. we don't see that with donald

extreme example but even conservative speakers, and attempt to silence them on campus. that gets really hairy because i can understand not wanting to hear somebody speak about white supremacy, that makes sense to me even though i believe in the right to free speech but to silence a conservative speaker what do you say to people who want to do that? >> it reminds me, i brought ben schapiro to campus in spring and many of the same people calling for richard spencer were calling for ben schapiro to not speak on campus. they couldn't be polar opposites but sometimes doing the right thing isn't the easiest thing and it is easy to say he has terrible views doesn't have the same rights as us but at what point do we draw the line in the sand where the administration can't decide who can or can't speak on college campuses and
