calls and more. kelly. ainsley: is he a gold star father. listen to what he had to say yesterday. 's extremely powerful. >> who are these men and women? they are the best 1% these country produces. most of you don't know them. many of you don't know anyone who knows any one of them. but they are the very best this country produces. they volunteer to protect our country when there is nothing in our country anymore that seems to suggest that selfless service to the nation is not only appropriate but required. but that's all right. typically the only phone calls the family receives are the most important phone calls they can imagine, and that is from their buddies. in my case, after my son was killed, his kids were calling us from afghanistan telling us what a great guy he was. so, some presidents have elected to call. all presidents, i believe, have elected to send

letters. my first recommendation was he not do it because it's not the phone call that parents, family members are looking forward to. you ask me about previous presidents and i said i can tell you that president obama, who was my commander-in-chief when i was on active duty did not call my family. that was not a criticism. but then he said, how do you make these calls? if you are not in the family, if you've never worn the uniform, if you've never been in combat, you can't even imagine how to make that call. but i think he very bravely does make those calls. let me tell you what i told them and let me tell you what my best friend joe dunford told me because he was my casualty officer. he said kel, he was doing exactly what he wanted to do

when he was killed. he knew what he was getting into by joining that 1%. he knew what the possibilities were because we're at war. and when he died, and the four cases we are talking about niger, my son's case in afghanistan, when he died he was surrounded by the best men on this earth, his friends. that's what the president tried to say to four families the other day. i was stunned when i came to work yesterday morning and broken hearted. at what i saw a member of congress doing. brian: so you understand why president trump said what he said. i don't think other presidents have done it not to brag, but to say i have been through this deliberative process with my chief of staff. you wonder he came up and said when he said that, you know, president obama never called general kelly. not that he was putting down

president obama, president trump wasn't when he mentioned that. it was because he asked general kelly because he was trying to get some context. steve: right. brian: trying to decide whether or not he wanted to make that phone call or not. that's what chief of staff kelly was saying. ainsley: he was trying to explain what the president meant his good intentions. steve: keep in mind, a couple of days ago when we heard this florida congresswoman say the president said to the widow your husband knew what he was getting into. the reason he said that was because john f. kelly told him the story about how general dunford had told him that's what he says. but what was stunning about what has happened in the last couple of days, according to john f. kelly was just the fact that this -- during one of the bleakest times in this widow's existence on this earth. when she was getting a phone call, a personal phone call from the president of the united states, there was a member of congress eavesdropping on that

private call between the president and the grieving widow. and that's the woman who made it political in john f. kelly's words. and you know what? she is now saying that niger was donald trump's benghazi. so clearly she has made this political and john f. kelly is heart broken over it. brian: right. so not only that, is it not his benghazi, niger should be investigated and is investigated. most democrats don't believe there was anything wrong about benghazi except for the outcome but not about what led to it and how it was handled afterwards. ainsley: general kelly said he was stunned and broken hearted that this congresswoman down in florida who has not ever served our country out in the battlefield like his son had, like he had, and like the four individuals that were killed in niger, she came back and she said after john kelly, after this press conference, representative wilson down in florida she said john kelly is trying to keep his job. he will say anything. there were other people who heard what i heard.

brian: you are going to tell me that general kelly, you look at his track record and see his presentation and understanding his background, anyone would order him out there as some have accused? they say the president forced him out there? are you going to tell me that anyone forced him out there to speak with heart without any notes? steve: you check out on twitter, there are a number of people on the political left, look, is he not a general anymore. is he working for the president. he was the secretary of homeland security and now he was sent out there. listen, here's the thing. suddenly fredericka wilson, everybody is talking about her. her people came out and said you know what? she said enough. she is not going to say anything else regarding this. however, before that came out, she said. this. >> you mean to tell me that i have become so important. [laughter] that the white house is following me in my words, this is amaz amazing.

that's amazing. that's absolutely phenomenal. i have to tell my kids i'm a rock star now. ainsley: highly inappropriate. she is laughing. this is not about her. this is not about the president. this is not about politics. this is about remembering the men and win who has answered the call of duty. who have sacrificed everything to fight for all of us, for our freedoms. it is about being respectful and remembering them alleges they are dying on the front lines for all of us. brian: tucker was smart enough to book ollie north who who knows the general quite well to get a perspective on how extraordinary it was to see the general and chief of staff talk about what he experienced personally. listen. >> one of the questions asked was the day you left the white house had to be the worst day of your life. no the answer was the worst day in my life was when i held dying marines in my arms and then i have to write the families and sometimes go see them after i came back myself.

and what presidents go through in trying to express their condolences is such a personal and such a private and such difficult thing, i find it stunning that someone could criticize the president for doing what he did. i mean, widow johnson, received a call that no one ever wants to get. >> tucker: yes. >> no one ever wants to see somebody walking up their walk with a chaplain with them. those kind of things happen too often in war. it's a very, very personal intimate moment. and she has wrecked it is what she has done. she is a wrecker. this congresswoman wilson is a wrecker. steve: one of the other things general kelly said during his briefing and it was so powerful was just the fact that he had spent an hour this past week trying to get his head around how this had suddenly become political. he went out to arlington and he walked among the head stones and he said. so names of the marines there were because of him, because of what he told them

to do. and he thought, you know what? at least there is one thing left in america that is still sacred, when somebody who wears the uniform dies, right, well, it was until this week. watch. >> when i was a kid growing up a lot of things were sacred in our country. women were sacred. looked upon with great honor. that's obviously not the case anymore as we see from recent cases. life. the dignity of life was sacred. that's gone. religion, that seems to be gone as well. gold star families, i think that left and in the convention over the summer. i just thought the selfless devotion that brings a man or woman to die on the battlefield, i just thought that that might be sacred. so i still hope, as you write your stories, and i appeal to america, that let's not let this maybe

last thing held sacred in our society a young man, young woman going out and giving his or her life for our country, let's try to somehow keep that sacred. but it eroded a great deal yesterday by the selfish behavior of a member of congress. ainsley: if you hear that. don't be discouraged. when i heard that at first i thought yeah, my grandparents, the greatest generation as they're called. where are those days? and then i thought america is still great. that's why a lot of people elected president trump because they believe in country. brian: right. ainsley: when we go out to these book signings we meet greatest americans, we meet people who watch us every day it gives me hope. raising a child. general kelly, he is the white house chief of staff is he a strong amazing man. brian: president tweeted last night 11:156789 i think we should put this whole thing to bed. talk about the wacky congresswoman, personal call. i think most people watched that and sees her agrees. but, i think he -- everyone

should stop tweeting and talking about it. ainsley: i agree. it's taking away from the men and women who died for our country. that's what this is all about. he said when a service member is killed after they followed orders on the battle field he wants to keep their service sacred. he went on to talk about the process when someone dies for our country. steve: so powerful. ainsley: he talked about their bodies wrapped in whatever pieces of shroud and packed in ice and flown to dover air force base where dover takes such good care of these bodies. they are embalmed and meticulously dressed in their uniforms when with whatever medals they have worn. steve: put it in context to so men and women know what they go through in the final steps of their lives. very powerful. ainsley: overnight, the senate taking a major step toward putting more money in your wallet. so, what needs to happen next to make the economy great again in the answer is

steve: a fox news alert. overnight the u.s. senate taking the first step toward tax reform by passing a budget framework. some economists say that tax plan won't do anything unless the next fed chairman

does a few specific things. here to break it down i daniel geltrude. good morning to you. >> good morning. need tax reform. got to have it without that the economy sputters. steve: okay. when you look at the economy, historically, did you go back 50 years ago, the economy was growing at something and we have got a big graphic right over there. 3.3% was the economic growth rate in america between 1947 and 2013. and now has slowed way down. obviously, one of the ways we have got to do things, because it's only been 2.1% since 2013 is good economic policies. and the fed head is the person who has a lot to do with that. >> yes. they're the face of the central bank. and that face needs to be a poker face. really, what it comes down, to steady hand at the hymn.

we need somebody who really understands the monetary policy, which the president has made very clear it's about growth. how do we get it? how do we sustain it? steve: the big question is when janet yellen's term expires will the president appoint her for another term or will he get rid of her because when he was out on the campaign trail a year ago he said if i'm elected most likely i'm going to replace her. do you think that's a good idea? >> i think that the president made that statement at the time because that's what he felt at the time. he may want to re-examine that. i will tell you why. look at where the stock market is going. to make a change right now at the fed chair level, if that's going to put that a little bit out of balance, i'm not sure he wants to take that chance. so i wouldn't be surprised if he goes back on that one. steve: so you are saying that out on the campaign trail he said i'm going to fire her if i'm elected and now because of the stock market it's humming along he will keep her even though thanks to the federal reserve we are sitting on

all that debt? >> i think so. because we're talking about $5 trillion worth of building wealth since he has become president. that's significant. so, we could look at this situation and say, ha, if it ain't broke, don't fix it he may step back from that it wouldn't surprise me, steve. steve: interesting. if he were going to replace her with somebody, one of the names we have heard a number of times gary cohn the guy who used to be at goldman sachs, real smart guy when it comes to money stuff. do you think that's a possibility? >> it is possible. lately in the horse betting, he has kind of fallen behind. he was one of the real favorites related to if tax reform goes through. he may very well be the guy. not so sure now. steve: all right. dan, thank you very much. >> thank you, steve. steve: have a good weekend. straight ahead, president trump is closer than ever in keeping this campaign promise, we're told. >> we're building a wall on the southern border, which is absolutely necessary. steve: well, of the wall proto types, there they are. they are up.

for. if you don't stand during that period of time, personally and i'm not speaking for my father i'm disappointed. >> we have already seen the fans have reacted and part-time in this country do not take kindly to people disrespecting the flag, disrespecting the military and, you know, they will pay for it probably by losing fans, unfortunately. ainsley: your father was criticized for the conversation that he had with the gold star widow. what were your thoughts on that topic? >> i think it's disgusting. i think it shows the absolute worst of politics. here is the president of the united states calling to express his condolences on behalf of an incredibly grateful nation and people turned it into a political item to. me, it's disgusting. ainsley: you read the transcripts, what were your thoughts? >> from what i have seen, this is a clear case of the media not doing their job. whenever you read exactly what he said, he said your husband went in to battle, you know, knowing that he could be injured, knowing that he could be killed and he still did it because he loves his country and he did it for the american people.

i can't think of a better way, quite frankly, to express my gratitude t than by saying something like that. then they leave off the last part what was said. this man is a hero. there are no two ways about it my father-in-law is the biggest champion of the military there is. we all in this country love and respect our military and no one more so than the president. ainsley: what did you think of general kelly's comments defending your father when it came to that conversation with the gold star widow? >> i think it is very personal to him. he was on the phone call but he also had a son killed in afghanistan. i think he probably more so than any person in the world understands that true pain and sorrow and what the person on the other end of the telephone was going through at that very moment. imsure he had many very similar moments, you know, in his own life. and he was upset. he was upset when my father was criticized. i think he came to my father's defense in a very big way. i think he thought it was

disgusting. ainsley: tax reform. big day, budget has to be done today in order to pass tax reform by the end of the year. is that going to happen? >> i think it will. i'm hopeful it will. this country wants -- you see the stock market. record high. never seen any growth like this. it's incredible. why is that? people are expecting tanks reform. need to simplify tax system. we have to return taxes to people. we have to let corporations grow. we have to put our companies back on even playing fields with other developed nations, otherwise, we're simply not going to be competitive. ainsley: what do you make of some of these republicans not on board. have you rand paul not on board necessarily, ted cruz who hasn't said whether or not he is goings to vote for this. republicans can't seem to come together. >> i think they will on tax. i think it's something that every republican, quite frankly, campaigned on and believed. in they want people to have more money. they want people to spend more of that money on the economy. they want people to actually save money. ainsley: the investigation on the uranium one deal. your dad spoke about it

appeared said this is the real russian scandal. >> it is a real russian scandal. it's a disgrace. when the clinton foundation gets $145 million and we give 20% of the uranium united states. remember, uranium, what they use to make nuclear weapons. you give 20% of the united states stockpile to russia and the clinton foundation gets $145 million and they are call everybody on capitol hill to testify about absolutely nothing as it pertains to the campaign because there was zero collusion, there was no russia. it's a disgrace. and it really shows how one-sided our government can be. ainsley: so let's talk about the baby. how did you come up with luke. >> luke was my dad's dad. i heard such incredible stories about him. i always said if i have a son, i would really love to maim that him after my grandfather so it's really special. ainsley: did your dad meet the baby. >> he has. when he at the u.n. he spent a bunch of time with luke. that was very special. ainsley: so i'm about to meet luke. what can i expect? >> he's a great baby.

giving his or her life for our country. let's try to somehow keep that sacred. brian: yeah, let's see if we can. chief of staff john kelly defending president trump's call to a gold star widow all while honoring the sacrifice of our troops, some of which served under him. joining us right now with their reaction is our panel; we're privileged to have them with us wounded combat jason red map is here. retired army ranger sean parnell. as well as army veteran and nypd officer dr. darren porcher who did early duty today at 4:00 a.m. jason, first to you, your reaction to what the chief of staff/general kelly did yesterday. do you think he answered all the questions and put it in perspective? >> yeah. absolutely. i mean, nobody better than general kelly from both sides of the coin. both being a general who took men in to combat and men and women who sacrificed -- everything about them. their time away from family and ultimately that ultimate sacrifice that laid some of

them to rest. second part of that john kelly lost his own son: the impact of losing your own family member, i have friends that have had somebody show up at that door. i was severely wounded. it could have possibly been me. it's just -- you cannot exrensd it unless you have been there. can i see why john kelly was so stunned at representative wilson's comments. >> to your point, i have made calls to family members and notified them when they have lost loved ones. it is a sacred process. and for a democratic congresswoman to use that and come out and attack president trump, to me, is just reprehensible and it represents a compromise of that sacred trust that exists between the president, the commander-in-chief and our military that supports him. >> you know, the president brought up a very valid point and a lot of people -- we all sit at this table know and understand when we took the oath we knew that this was something that was always in the background.

so when trump made that statement, he knew what he was up against, i truly agree. and we all feel the same way. i don't think that in any way, shape, or form, it was a disheartening comment. it was just something that came into play. when he mentioned general kelly making this statement, i mean, he has three different roles. he is a gold star father. he's also a politician at the forefront in the white house at the chief of staff and coupled with being a military general and no better person could have presented that. brian: 3:00 in the afternoon i agree with you. but what happened after. he answered the question why he said what he did and the phone call. why he used the term he did. and then politics went back into the fray, take a look at brian fallon who, by the way, his green just had hillary clinton blow the easiest election possible to an upstart billionaire. brian fallon tweets this out about general kelly. kelly is enabler of trump is he believer in him. that he makes him as odious as the rest.

don't be disdistracted by his uniform. he taliban and overseeing mass deportations. he put down a guy that just put everything in perspective for this country. what is your reaction to that? >> remove that from the equation, the fact that he is the chief of staff you want to talk about things like that. the mere fact that he laid his son to rest. take the fact out that he was ever a general. he wore the uniform and look at him as a gold star family member. someone who sent his very own son off to fight for the freedoms that every one of us in this country enjoy, that statement was the height of ignorance and it's a total misunderstanding. brian: that tweet? >> that tweet, yeses was the height of ignorance in my opinion. >> all of my life i have been enjoying the passive support of the left. oh we support the troops but just thought the mission, right? now we are supposed to believe they're the moral authority or judge and jury on how to support our troops, right, with congresswoman attacking

president trump. and now have you everybody else coming out and now attacking general john kelly, the white house chief of staff who is real estate tired general himself, lost his son. now they are attacking him and really what it does it shows you how they truly feel about the military. brian: it does. i will say this, too. i think the average american is not looking at brian fallon or this left-wing congresswoman. i think they get it. you don't see a politician when that chief of staff was behind that podium. i want to bring you something that something kelly is overseeing part of. you know, general mcmaster is national security advisor. you know dunford is chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and kelly inseparable as well as mattis. they changed the rules of engagement, darren, and things are making progress. yesterday, raqqa fell. isis is dispersed. your reaction? >> i think that the military is doing a resounding job. a lot of things they don't take credit for because that's not what the military does. but, just going back to what this congress person did, i

think that she used politics to advance her ideology and it totally moved away from the death and the loss of a military member out in this place niger. i think that is what the focus should be. not so much what the congresswoman's statement was moving forward. because she had this diametric opposition to trump in the past. and this just came to fruition that she used this as a vehicle to advance the cause. brian: what's so amazing the president and chief of staff's remarks. he pointed out he met her before in 2015 opened up brand new fbi building where they were going over the sacred loss of three fbi agents in the battle field. at which time she went up to speak. didn't acknowledge that i will picked up the phone and asked president obama for $20 million and i got it and all the military officers and law enforcement officers were my goodness, how inappropriate was that? >> it would have been nice if her voting record in congress was one that supported the veterans. i mean, she voted time and again against things that would have helped veterans year after year after year during the longest period of war in our nation's history.

them. but they are the very best this country produces. and they they volunteer to protect our country when there is nothing in our country anymore that seems to suggest that selfless service to the nation is not only appropriate but required. but that's all right. typically the only phone calls the family receives are the most important phone calls they can imagine, that is from their buddies. in my case, hours after my son was killed, his friends were calling us from afghanistan telling us what a great guy he was. so, some presidents have elected to call. all puts, i believe, have elected to send letters. my first recommendation was he not do it. because it's not the phone call that parents, family members are looking forward to. he asked me about previous presidents. i said i can tell that you president obama, who was my commander-in-chief when i was on active duty, did not

call my family. that was not a criticism. but then he said, you know, how do you make these calls? if you're not in the family, if you've never worn the uniform, if you've never been in combat, you can't imagine how to make that call. i think he very bravely does make those calls. let me tell you what i told him and let me tell what you my best friend and what my best friend joe dunford told me because he was my casualty officer. he said, kel, he was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. he knew what he was getting into by joining that 1%. he knew what the possibilities were because we're at war. and when he died, and the four cases we are talking about niger, my son's case in afghanistan. when he died, he was

surrounded by the best men on this earth, his friends. that's what the president tried to say to four families the other day. i was stunned when i came to work yesterday morning and broken hearted at what i saw a member of congress doing. ainsley: it was a beautiful press conference. i think it was smart for the president to send him out. brian: actually, i bet you -- ainsley, i bet you he did that on his only. i bet you he decided i'm going to go out and handle. this i don't think anyone tells you to do that i think that has to come to you. ainsley: maybe. so but i thought it was beautiful. because he has been there. you know, he has fought for our country. he was a general. he lost his own son and then at the end of that he said at the end of the press conference he takes questions from reporters. he said are any of you gold star parents? no one raised their hands. then he said do you know of a gold star family? and several people raised their hand and he said to a young man, he said you get the first question.

steve: his press conference was so enlightening because not only did you find out the respect somebody killed in action receives from the u.s. military. but also you hear, you kind of get the back story of the many parts of the story that we have been talking about. brian: exactly. steve: for instance, he advised the president not to make the phone call. because he said there was no perfect way to make that call. then the president said it's the right thing to do. i want to make it he said what do i say? and then he said what joe dunford, the general had told him. he said your husband knew exactly what he was getting into and that's the part that the congresswoman heard as she was eaves dropping and then that bugged her and then she politicized it. also, you know, the other part that we learned was the fact that when the president said, you know, i don't think barack obama didn't call the families that's because john kelly said that barack obama did not call his family after his son robert died because most presidents don't call the

families. they write letters instead. and the phone calls come from the people who are the most important to the fallen soldier, their friends. brian: so this congresswoman says this afterwards. john kelly is trying to keep his job and will say anything other people also overheard. this keep in mind john kelly doesn't want to keep his job. john kelly was happy retired. he said after he got asked to be the next homeland security secretary he asked his wife, his wife said we're always -- we're a family of service, go serve your country again. she is like okay. he is -- he said i'm back in. well then john kelly a tweet from brian fallon who failed miserably in trying to get hillary clinton elected said that john kelly, keep in mind, backed up the travel ban and was homeland security secretary for the president. he also said the wall worked. guess what? is there a chance that he believes the travel ban? is there a chance he actually believes the wall is going to work homeland security secretary that he did this on his own? are you going to tell me someone tells general kelly to go out there and talk

he is working for president trump? >> i'm not surprised at all. i mean, look where we are today. you know, i text greg gutfeld and i said some things should be a no go zone yesterday. he told me we are redefining no go zones. they don't exist anymore. i'm not surprised but i'm absolutely disgusted. this is disgusting. this person should be honored. his memory should be honored and his family should be left well enough alone to grieve. can i tell you 24 hours after losing someone you love with all your heart. you are in no state of mind to make a judgment call on much of anything. i don't know anything about what is or isn't, you know, sanctimonious or something as sacred but can i tell you i do have a pretty good idea of what is decent in these situations and what is decent is to let a family mourn. and to not make this a political matter. you know, obviously president trump didn't do himself any favors immediately after this, but i do believe that general kelly put the period on this conversation. and it's time to move on and start talking about the honor and dignity, the

honor, courage and commitment this person served with. brian: i know the president tweeted last night. i hope he doesn't anymore. i hope he refuses to take any more questions on it and put it to bed. there is nothing else to say. he answered everything. ainsley: going forward, what's he going to do? is he going to continue to call the families? brian: i think. so. steve: i bet not. >> when i listened to general kelly i hope he doesn't. i hope he writes letters so they have something to look back 30 years from now and let's those closest to the heroes make those calls. i have laid on the battlefield and watched my brother take his last breath. it took me seven years to face his wife. today it would be just as hard as it was that day. it's really hard. i was in charge of keeping himself just like the president is in charge of sending him there. it's not an easy thing to do. if you don't have the perfect words, which there is no such thing. not a lot gained by making a phone call. i hope he doesn't. i hope he writes the letter and gives them something to hold on to and let's the people who know him closest make those phone calls. steve: surely. thank you for joining us

was super personal for him because is he a gold star father, lost his son robert in afghanistan. >> and has another son in the service as well. brian: his fifth tour. >> fifth tour, of course. when general kelly spoke, you know, he spoke in such a way that he took most of us who had never heard about that sad journey that the young men and women that we lose take on their way home. they are thrown on ice and what happens to them. that was so powerful what he said should be the last word that anyone says about this issue. that woman, that congresswoman, whenever her name is wears a hat is a bozo. stop it end it. this is about men and women who die and not about politics, period. brian: here is what brian fallon tweeted out who failed miserably when it came to getting hillary clinton elected. kelly isn't just an nationalleenablerof trump, is hn him. that makes him as odious as

foundation and russia. and bill clinton with his speeches. well e the media really didn't cover it much yesterday and the president was bashing the mainstream media for that what's your reaction? >> well, you know, this is something we knew about when peter schweizer came out with his book. look, the big russia story is the fact that bill and hillary clinton, because of her position as secretary of state were able to cash in on one of the biggest and one of the largest scandals that involved the united states and another foreign country, which just happens to be russia. now, my understanding is that it wasn't 143 million. it was more than that that went from this uranium one to the clinton foundation for the sale of our uranium to russia. russia now owns 20 to 25% of our uranium. why is that significant? it's significant because uranium is used to make a nuclear weapon. and don't tell me it's just

nuclear energy. you put your foot on the gas pedal and you can make a real nuclear weapon. all right. now, what we have got is a person who ends up in a -- on a disclosure agreement, not able to talk about the fact that bribery has been going on and loretta lynch calls them up and says look, you can't talk about the fact that the fbi was investigating russia and corruption and kick backs all during the obama administration. have you got money passing hands. you've got bob mueller is the head of the fbi. and you've got loretta lynch calling and saying you cannot talk about this investigation we were doing. hillary clinton approving the deal. hillary clinton and bill making money on the deal. and they are shutting down all of the information that we can get. look, these people belong in jail. the evidence is there. brian: time on the national news at all. this wasn't covered on national news. it was the front story on

media ite. steve: which is a blog regarding media. we know now the fbi actually investigating the corruption. they had somebody on the inside who was talking about what looks like bribery to everybody else. and, yet, the obama administration went ahead and approved the deal, where they bought 20% of the uranium. but here's the thick. if the president were watching right now, all he has got to do to fix one of the things that's a problem for you, is all he has got to do is call jeff sessions and say mr. attorney general, you need to go ahead and the guy who is in the nondisclosure agreement. >> right. steve: no reason to have that anymore. tell us who he is and have him testify. >> chuck grassley has said i want to hear from this guy. jeff sessions can release him from this. brian: on his own. >> from this agreement that lorloretta lynch called him personally and said we are going to put new jail.

i have never heard of a witness being threatened, especially someone who is on the inside working for the government being threatened with jail if you say in front of congress or anyone else -- steve: what's the best way to get to the bottom of this story? >> jeff sessions not only needs to get rid of this nondisclosure agreement and allow this guy to talk. he needs to do a grand jury. bob mueller, we now know is totally conflicted. he walls the head of the fbi had when this was going on. james comey is totally conflicted from all of this stuff. the facts are clear. the whole obama administration and the whole lot of them were involved in the biggest corrupt scandal. brian bine we have only gone two days without saying the name james comey. we blew that we will watch you this weekend, right? >> yeah. i will be on saturday at 9:00 repeats at midnight. i will be in l.a. so it's 6:00 in l.a. and then 9:00. brian: can you still go out. >> yeah in l.a. can you. brian: talking about going out. jillian loves to go out. jillian: yeah, right. i'm the biggest home body on

ainsley: well, confidence is actually bouncing back among home builders after a hurricane induced death. marking the highest level of confidence since may. this as the nation's hottest real estate zip codes are now revealed. here to weigh in on this is the host of the property man and fox news legal analyst bob massi. hey, bob. >> good morning. ainsley: good morning. so home builders, their confidence is up after the hurricane. they are rebuilding which is great news. >> they are. ainsley: what are some of the issues that they are facing? >> one of the big things that they are facing is the

idea of cost. there is a labor shortage. we have it in las vegas. you will have it in florida. you are going to have it over in texas because a lot of the immigration issues going on there is a labor shortage. also have increase in insurance premiums that they are concerned about. also, they are talking about material increase. lumber prices are going to go up because of some shortage. so any time you have this type of catastrophes that occur, there is this consequence. but amazingly enough, there still is optimism and there is still building. but these are some of the things be faced with. ainsley: hohow are the homeowners doing louisiana, florida, texas and hurricanes gone through we don't want to forget them and also puerto rico. >> you know, actually, it's interesting. homeowners are optimistic. i think there is this sense, for example, in houston, what i have been reading about is a lot of the people unfortunately were affected, may move to other areas in

texas because they don't want to go through this again. a little wit of higher ground. over in florida, have you the coastals, a lot of investors have that. they are going to go right back there because they like being on the coast. i think in general, ainsley, i really, it's amazing, even everything we have gone through the last couple months, there is a good feeling among homeowners. they want to buy again. they want to own again. ainsley: that's good news. on that topic we teased right before the break. what are the nation's hottest real estate zip codes now? >> you know, that's another thing, i'm surprised las vegas wasn't involved. here's what they're finding. smaller, inexpensive towns, the preliminaries are going to. that is the market that the builders want. the retailers want the millennials, have you them going to sort of small towns in texas, colorado, in florida, new mexico, different parts of the country where they are buying condominiums. now, smaller is bigger for them. they want it affordable. they want to be around --

♪ ♪ steve: former attorney general eric holder back in the spotlight defending his policies and announcing his new role as a self-proclaimed member of the trump resistance. >> difficult thing to watch. and it means that i think i have to be part of the resistance and to try to save as much of the great work that i think we did as is possible and to try to ensure that we put in place leadership in 2018 and 2020 that will be supportive of the positive things that we did. steve: that's right. preserving his legacy but what exactly is he trying to

save? anybody remember things like, oh, fast and furious? ainsley: joining us now is editor for town hall to the come katie pavlich who definitely remembers that controversy among others. >> everybody should remember that let's not forget that eric holder lied about what he knew about that operation. it resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people including border patrol agent brian terry and -- consequences ongoing today. what is eric holder trying to preserve? the targeting of conservatives, unpopular legacy when he left his office he had 15% approval rating. but tie think that conservatives do have to be concerned and americans have to be concerned because eric holder is working on things like redistricting, gerrymandering, working against voter i.d. laws against our election. so he is actually working on some very serious things. he is not just going out and pumping his fists at these rallies. he is working on things that will have an effect. steve: we have a graphic of some of the things that happened during his tenure

operation fast and furious. he was held in contempt of congress. targeting journalists. irs targeting, attempted 9/11 trials on u.s. soils as well. you know, because he was the attorney general you get how he would like to probably his legacy. but at the same time, you wonder are they trying to protect the legacy or keep things secret that happened back then? we were just talking to the judge about that government witness, the informant. >> right. steve: who the former administration put under a nondisclosure agreement so they can't tell us what happened with russia. >> it's ♪ just about preserving their own legacy. it's about preserving barack obama's legacy. it's also about opposing donald trump. and it's about making sure that the progress that he has made to undo some of the detrimental things that the obama administration did to this country aren't going to happen. so it's very telling that they have people like eric holder, very unpopular, hillary clinton very unpopular, coming out and being part of their, quote,

resistance movement as if that is going to get them anywhere. barack obama is campaigning now in virginia for the governor, the democrat who is running for governor there. steve: who is leading by the way. >> who is. but polling in virginia is often wrong. actually is very much in favor of democrats and ends up being very close. so that's going to be a test to see if they can bring those resistance members back in to the fold to see if they can actually be successful. eric holder is doing it on a little bit of a different level. he hasn't gotten involved in elections in terms of endorsing candidates. but he is getting involved as it comes to, as i said gerrymandering of elections, making sure voter id laws are challenged in court. he's going to be a problem and clearly is he happy to be part of the resistance movement. there are plenty of people on the other side happy to be opposed to him as well. ainsley: catch her today in four hours on outnumbered. >> i will be on then. thank you, guys. steve: there she is right now. >> very cool. steve: coming up, ainsley is going to meet the newest

but he particularly took a shot at the florida congresswoman, and he was stunned, he said, that she would eavesdrop on a personal phone call between the president of the united states and somebody who just lost her husband. what do you think about that, geraldo? >> well, first of all, listening to general kelly, who i just met on air force one, i had a chat with him. he's a very serious person. very mature, very dignified. i was so humbled by his remarks and as a war correspondent who attended many memorials in the field, in the theater, i just thought that isn't there anything in our life now that isn't sack red that can be above politics? how can you use this occasion to attack the president? it shows the hatred against president trump. but more than that, it shows a willingness to make -- to denigrate and to make base

something that should be so noble and unifying. and to hear him, to hear this dad, serious man so obviously pained. and when he told the story of going to arlington cemetery, my god, steve. i felt like crying there because he was so real. so sincere, and it really -- his remarks, his demeanor, his message was so at odds. i tell you, i was watching -- i was on the bike exercising, so i was clicking around as i do, and i happened to watch his remarks on the network. and i was thinking of the reporters on that network, they must have felt embarrassed about the way that they had politicized president trump's call to that widow. every single question. i've known donald trump forever. so i know he's not the best ad-libber. i know if i tell him -- if i was an aide, i could see how

he may be clumsy doing it. but then to politicize this syntax or take this noble message of love, of compassion, of inclusion, and make it more about partisan politics, i swear to god. i don't know where we go, and those reporters must have been so embarrassed. brian: they weren't. did you watch the nighttime show? they just start ripping kelly saying he becomes the politico because he does what the president told him to do. the president never told him to do that. >> that was the least political speech i've heard in years from washington. that was the most heartfelt speech. and the point he makes about 1% of the american population actually serving. and a tiny percentage of the 1% actually are in combat risking their lives. what happened to those four gi's in niger is tragic, and we have to find out exactly what the mission was. whether they were prepared, properly supported, and all of the rest it of. but to take the president's

condolence call to the widow and make that like everything else, it's just like everything else. brian: she became the number one booking in every network. >> and it's so -- i mean, at some point, you've got to think where -- where's the dignity? have you no shame? it really troubled me. it really did. brian: quote, this is from wilson on. john kelly is trying to keep his job. meanwhile, as we look ahead, he is trying to keep his job. he will say anything. there were other people who heard what i heard. steve: and then. brian: so do you really think kelly is trying to keep his job? >> i just wish he would drop it. let's drop it now. ainsley: she's not dropping it. she said she was going to stay silent. now she's on another network this morning, and this is what she said to a local reporter about everything. listen to this: >> when i was a kid growing up, a lot of -- steve: that's not the sound byte. ainsley: here we go. >> that's the white house is

following me and my life? this is amazing. that's amazing. that is absolutely phenomenal. i have to tell my kids that i'm a rockstar now. ainsley: oh, now she's famous. >> i contrast that -- i'll give you a moment. baghdad, iraq. general john f kelly, general john f campbell, he calls me, and he's taking a helicopter ride over to the city of iraq. we land in this army base, we go into an auditorium packed with the gi's who serve in the unit of the person we were honoring. his boots were at the front of the auditorium. just his boots. and it was his buddies -- not the commanders -- but his peers who were telling us about this fallen soldier. i tell you, it was one of the most affecting moments of my entire life. and then to contrast that

moment of dignity, and i couldn't believe the strength general campbell and others showed in even talking about this kid who was alive a few hours before. and then to see this. now to see this. to see it's a democrat, a republican, a right or left, a red or blue. it's appalling. it's deeply distressing, and i just ask people on both sides drop this thing right now. ainsley: you know, geraldo, it's not about her, it's not about the president, it's about our fallen soldiers. our men and women who give up everything to go over there so that we can have freedom. you mentioned that the things that are sacred have been lost now. the general touched on that yesterday. it was a very powerful sound byte. if you missed it, we want to play it for you. listen to this: >> when i was a kid growing up, a lot of things were sacred in our country. women were sacred. looked upon with great honor. that's obviously not the case anymore as we see from recent

cases. life, the dignity of life is sacred. that's gone. religion, that seems to be gone as well. gold star families, i think that left in the convention over the summer. just start selfless devotion that brings a man and woman to die in the battlefield, i just thought that that might be sacred. so i still hope, as you write your stories, and i appeal to america that let's not let this maybe last thing that's held sacred in our society. a young man, young woman going out and giving his or her life for our country. let's try to somehow keep that sacred. but it eroded a great deal yesterday by the selfish behavior of a members of congress. brian: wow. >> i can't imagine if i had been admonished that way how i would be reacting.

certainly not the way the congresswoman is reacting. i just see sincerity there that the dad speaking as well as a marine commander. brian: who's son is on his fifth tour, by the way. the other son. >> yeah. it's just. it's a lot. now, having said that, as a reporter, i'm very curious what the mission was in niger. i don't have a lot of experience in west africa. it's the french that have basically taken the lead. but that's where the children were kidnapped, the couple hundred little girls. it's very troubled. al-qaeda or some manifestation of the radical sunni islamic extremism is really metastasizing in west africa, and it's going to be trouble, and we are going to be involved. but for god's sakes, if something like this happens, the next time something like this happens, can't we stand shoulder to shoulder? steve: and you know what? yesterday, the pentagon came out and said we're not -- we don't know exactly what

happened yet over there, but we are having an investigation. but unlike other people in this town, we're not going to tell. we're not going to start talking until we know the facts. >> you think that the command in africa and what happens in africa will have a telling effect and will spill over. i think it really is where the fight is. now that racka and the caliphate are finished, i think you're going to see a move to central and west africa. brian: we're going to see the same outrage that isis was supposed to be the jv team. i never saw any of that outrage as al-qaeda ran crazy across iraq and syria. >> just one other -- this criticism of president trump on this issue, it is echoing what happened in puerto rico. in puerto rico, i saw with my eyes how the puerto rican people were responding to the president and the first lady. and then i came home, and i saw the absolute 180 reporting on what i saw. absolutely -- i saw they loved

them, the reporters here said they hated him. i saw how it was distorted. president trump has the worst relationship with the media and the opposition ever. anything he does is construed in the worst possible light as evil. as some kind of secret motive. some kind of manipulation. he gets no slack at all, and that's part of the reason we are so utterly divided now that even this. even the most sacred event honoring a hero becomes politicized. i think it's really, really terrible. ainsley: in puerto rico when the mainstream media says the president's not helping, they don't really know the truth, a lot of their viewers. the difference here, though, is we're all humans. we know his intentions. when he calls that gold star mother or that gold star widow and talk to her, and we -- general kelly explained that he was the one that gave him those words to say and told him not to call.

brian: it happened late last night. yes, the senate passing. the senate passing? that's an odd phrase. the budget framework to pave the way for tax reform, but will they be able to get the job done in the next coming

months? here to react, host of "varney & company," stuart varney. he was kind of down because of a few votes that coc he was sick of passing the budge. so they have to be relieved of a budget framework passed. what does it mean for the economy? >> look, the budget framework has been passed. the way they passed it means it has to go through only one committee in the house. that shaves two or three weeks off the legislative process, it then goes towards tax cuts, which look a lot more likely. you only need 50 votes in the senate to actually pass the tax cut bill, and you have 50 votes. there are 52 republicans. i can't believe that the republicans will walk away from this opportunity once in a lifetime to cut taxes. brian: well, they just have a little bit of the problem with reductions as it is with states. you know peter king and the others. stuart: we don't know the details yet. but the broad framework is there. you cut taxes of businesses and small businesses, and you cut taxes on individuals. the rest of the details, we

don't know yet. but you get tax cuts. that's the whole point. that means growth in the future. brian: well, right now, we don't have anything except for a framework for a budget pass. what do you think that framework does and the potential for tax reform does in terms of 3% growth that we're experiencing right now? stuart: we know that the president is aiming for a 20% top rate on corporate profits. 20%. down from 35%. that puts a lot more money into private enterprise. that is stimuliive. that creates growth. we know the president wants to pass taxes for pass through accounts. that is very stimulative. that puts money into private enterprise. that grows the economy. i think you can look forward to three, three and a half percent, maybe 4% later next year. and that's why you're going to have another whopping great, big stock market rally today on top of the ones we've already had. brian: so right now we're below 23,000 before we closed;

troops of this country are celebrated. everything that's wonderful about this nation, we have so much to really thank god for. you don't stand during that period of time, and i think personally, i'm not speaking for my father, but personally, i was disappointed. >> i think he's going to see -- we've already seen the fans have reacted and people in this country do not take kindly to people disrespecting the flag, disrespecting the military, and, you know, they'll pay for it probably by losing fans, unfortunately. ainsley: father was criticized for the conversation that he had with the gold star widow. what was your thoughts on that topic? >> i think it's disgusting. i mean, i think it shows the absolute worst of politics. here is the president of the united states calling to express his condolences on behalf of this incredibly-great nation. and people turn it into a political item. >> you read the transcript. what were your thoughts? >> from what i've seen, this is just a clear case of the media not doing their job. whenever you read exactly what he said, he said your husband

went into battle, you know, knowing that he could be injured, knowing that he could be killed, and he still did it because he loved this country, and he did it for the american people. i can't think of a better way, quite frankly, to express my gratitude to someone than by saying something like that. and yet, they conveniently leave off the last part of what was said. this man is a hero. there are no two ways about it. my father-in-law is the biggest champion of the military there is and, you know, we all in this country love and respect our military and no one more so than the president. ainsley: what did you think of general kelly's comments defending your father when it came to the conversation of that gold star widow? >> well, he was on the, but he also had a son that was killed in afghanistan, and i think he probably more so than any person in the world understands that true pain and sorrow and what the person on the other end of the telephone was going through at that very moment. i'm sure he had a very -- many very similar moments, you know? in his own life. and he was upset.

he was upset when my father was criticized, and i think he came to my father's defense in a very big way because i think he thought it was disgusting. ainsley: okay. tax reform. big day. budget has to be done today in order to pass tax reform by the end of the year. is that going to happen? >> i think it will. i'm hopeful it will. this country wants, and you see the stock market; right? record highs. it has never seen any growth like this. i mean, it's incredible. and why is that? people are expecting tax reform. we need to simplify our tax system. we have to return taxes to people. we have to let corporations grow. we have to put our companies back on even playing fields with other developed nations, otherwise, we're simply not going to be competitive. ainsley: what do you make of some of these republicans that are not on board. rand paul isn't onboard, ted cruz hasn't necessarily they're going to vote for them. >> i think they will on tax. it's something that every republican, quite frankly, complained on and has always believed on. they want people to have more

money. they want people to spend more of that money in the economy. they want people to actually save money. ainsley: the investigation, the uranium one deal, your dad spoke about it and said this is the real russian scandal. >> it is the real russian scandal. it's a disgrace when the clinton foundation gets $145 million, and we give 20% of the uranium in the united states. remember, it's used to make nuclear weapons. give 20% of the stockpile and the clinton administration gets $145 million, and then they're calling everybody in capitol hill to testify about nothing in the campaign because there was no collusion or no russia. it's a disgrace, and it really shows how one sided our government can be. ainsley: so let's talk about the baby. how did you come up with luke? >> luke was my dad's dad. i heard such incredible stories about him, and i always said if i have a son, i would really love to name him after my grandfather, so it's very special. ainsley: has your dad met the baby? >> he has. he spent a bunch of time with

little luke, and that was very special. ainsley: okay. so i'm about to meet luke. what can i expect? >> he's a great baby. earlier does not cry that much. he's so sweet and a lot of hair. so you'll see. apparently he has more hair than most babies. ainsley: the trump hair. >> the trump hair. let's go see him. ainsley: hi, little one. hi, little one. beautiful. your nursery's beautiful. did you decorate it? >> we did. and we have a lot of amazing books. we have one i think you'll like right over here. ainsley: awe you have my book. >> we wanted to put it out for you. ainsley: healthy baby boy. congratulations. and then i ran out the door with the baby. i never came back. steve: so beautiful. so they're already reading the baby your book.

what's in your wallet? >> i gave that explanation to our president three days ago. he elected to make phone calls in the case of the four young men who we lost in niger. but then he said what -- how do you make these calls? if you're not in the family, if you've never worn the uniform, if you've never been in combat, you can't even imagine how to make that call. i think he very bravely does make those calls. he knew what the possibilities were because we're at war. and when he died in the four cases we're talking about in niger and my son's case in afghanistan. when he died, he was surrounded by the best men on this earth, his friends. that's what the president tried to say to four families the other day.

i was stunned when i came to work yesterday morning and broken-hearted at what i saw a members of congress doing. steve: because then it became political. joining us right now is the reaction from our panel today. former navy seal and ceo of combat wounded coalition jason at the far right right there. retired army ranger in the center and army vet and former new york city police department. you two have actually made these kinds of calls. >> yes. steve: and as we heard from the general yesterday, not only is it a hard call to make, but it is something so sacred, it is about telling the family of a fallen soldier that they made the ultimate sacrifice. and, unfortunately, it has become politicized this week. >> absolutely. i mean, this call comes in two faxes. the first faction is you have someone referred to as a casualty officer. that individual makes a direct

contact that they show up at the family's door. steve: at first light, they knock on the door. >> and then i spoke from the perspective of being an executive officer of a unit, and i had to make those calls. i've only made a few of them, but it's a very difficult task. steve: and we heard yesterday, shawn, john f kelly say that the best calls come from the people who knew the fallen soldier. >> that's right. yeah, i made hundreds of these calls when my unit was in afghanistan. we did two separate deployments to afghanistan and my second deployment, part of my job was taking care of the wounded soldiers and families that lost loved ones, and i can tell you that those conversations are the most challenging and difficult and sacred conversations that you have as a military officer. and for it to be politicized in any way by a sitting u.s. congresswoman who's now parading around and acting and calling herself a rockstar, it is morally reprehensible in every way. and universally as americans,

we should condemn her action and hold sacred those conversations. it's a private conversation between the president. steve: she was eavesdropping. >> yeah. a private conversation between our commander-in-chief and a widow. that's the story. steve: when you were injured in action, who got the call? >> so my wife got the call, and i mean it's very difficult. even in my case, obviously, shot in the face, and they didn't know my mental state. and for my commanding officer to call her and say your husband has been severely injured -- steve: and we just don't know what's going to happen. >> absolutely. so, i mean, that's hard enough to process. you take it to the next level of somebody like general kelly himself who lost his own son. so it's incredibly disappointing to me. i feel as a nation that we are moving down this path, we are politicizing things that really should not be touched. and regardless of your political affiliations, there are over a million americans who have laid down their lives

for the freedom in this country since the beginning, and i think it is a time. you need to put politics aside. you cannot politicize something like this. and for somebody to insinuate that john kelly was keeping his job by getting out there in front -- anyone with half a mind could look at the pain he experienced when he talked about and that notification when somebody shows up at your door to say i'm sorry on behalf of the united states of america, your son or daughter has made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. that is a wound that that family will never fully recover. steve: absolutely. >> and the fact of the matter is that president trump cares deeply about our military, and he. steve: look at the flag. look at the anthem. it is clear what he is about. >> he volunteered. when most presidents -- the fact of the matter is most presidents don't call families of the fallen, and he volunteered to make a very difficult call, to express

condolences to a family, and that was the right decision. >> and pointing trump's corner is he has never made one of these calls before, so he reached out to john kelly to gain information because john kelly is a gold star family coupled with -- he gave him two options. look, if you make it -- this is what comes into play. if you don't make it, we'll understand. as my counterpart mentioned, the average president doesn't make these calls because there's just so many of them to be made. but you have to accept that donald trump did go over and beyond to connect with the gold star father. >> john kelly tried to explain to the president and president trump understood this. that all of us as military members, every one of us here has been in the situation where we know we may not come home alive. steve: sure. >> and what he was trying to say in that moment is your son was doing what he was there to do. he was a green beret. i was a seal, army, these things. we know what we're out there doing trying to preserve the

freedom of the country. >> you know the risks. he knew what he signed up before he got into it. there's no draft. steve: common expression in your business. i have to ask you, doctor, before you go. the congresswoman from florida. she was on another morning show, apparently. >> the rockstar? steve: well, we saw that sound byte. >> self proclaimed rockstar. steve: well, now she's saying that the general's comment about the empty barrel that he made yesterday was racist. so sounds like that's what she's going forward with. >> the congresswoman speaking outside of her wheelhouse. what she's looking to do is gain some momentum going into the next series of elections. she's trying to politicize something in actuality, this is not her space of expertise. we need to focus on we had a fine soldier that we lost in niger. and that should be what the narrative is. not her overhearing a conversation between that family and president trump. steve: guys, great discussion. thank you, all, for your service.

weekend? we have, like, six 49ers every single week take a knee. the president and the commissioner this week said i'm not going to mandate it. plus, he cannot mandate it as long as there's a players union to stay in the way. >> i think you'll still see the same people taking a knee. what they're standing for or taking a knee for, i get, and i understand. we may not agree with the approach that they're taking. but what they're doing and the causes that they're trying to promote, they can't change that now. you can't just stop because somebody says we don't like it. let's remember, a protest isn't supposed to appease everybody. i think we're losing sight of some of the reasons they're doing this because of the way in which they're going about doing it. steve: well, and they're out to get publicity for their cause and there are a number of causes, and they're certainly getting the public lit of. but if you were still back in the nfl and one of your teammates was taking a knee or like yesterday just sat during the national anthem, would you talk to him? >> yeah. i would have a conversation about, you know, getting more in depth into

what his purpose and goal is, what's his endgame? what is he trying to do? i would support him. he's my teammate. we don't always think and feel the same way. there's 53 guys in that locker room. we don't all think the same way. but we're teammates. we support each other for what they're going through. i wouldn't take a knee. it's not my approach to things. i would take a different venue. but that's me. if my teammate wants to take a knee, it's your prerogative in this country to do what you want to do. ainsley: you said that rodger goodell probably should have made a decision at the very beginning. it's too hard to go back now. he's in a tough spot, though, because he has to represent all of the guys on the team. you keep saying the union too. but he's got to represent them all and, clearly, not a majority, a big portion of them have a problem. that's why they're taking a knee. so what advice do you have for him now? where does he go from here? >> so let's be clear. rodger goodell represents the owners only. he doesn't represent the

players. there's a players union. he's hired by the 32 owners. steve: to make money. >> to be profitable; right? and to come up with ideas, rules, and goals for the nfl. now, with that being said, they should have said something a year and a half ago or there should have been something in place before this began. once it's in motion, you can't retroactively go in now and say our policy is you can't take a knee -- too late. you would cause such an uproar? you want to see people protest? try that one. brian: you play a position that traditionally african-americans shine at. i remember john lynch saying the same thing. defensive backs. i find that in the locker room, everyone seems to be colorblind. do you think you can bring that forward and get that message out. bring the locker room harmony to the rest of the world? >> no. it's -- i'll steal a line from vegas. what happens in vegas, stays in vegas. what happens in the locker room still does. i was a defensive back. a corner. the only white one in the last 20 years. those relationships and the

camaraderie and the banter that we had stayed there. the things that i said and did with my teammates in my locker room, i couldn't do outside in the public. it would be taken wrong. but my boys knew who i was. so our interactions were so different. ainsley: give us an example. >> no. i don't think so.
