incoming president's worldview. we will be there alive when president trump visits the memorial this hour tomorrow, during the ceremony for those heroes lost. we are grateful you spent the evening with us. good night. ♪ >> tucker: good evening and welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." it is the deadliest one-man massacre in american history, yet already, among the most forgotten. it's been just a month since stephen paddock killed 58 people in las vegas. for weeks we have been asking basic questions about whate happened, most of which remain unanswered tonight. what was his motive for the shooting? howf did authorities possibly allow his house to be burgled? why was paddock's computer hard drive missing and why did it take so long for us to learn it was missing? why did security guard jesus compost travel to mexico just days after the shooting, despite being a key witness and why did authorities refuse to talk about that?
9:01 pm
why have campos' subsequent appearances been so managed by his employer, mgm. what is the timeline of the shooting? why is it so hard to get a straight answer? these long-standing questions, we can add a few more of them tonight. why did we only learned today from the clark county sheriff that paddock's girlfriend could be withholding the important information in this case? if, in fact, she knows more than what she is saying, why is not she being interviewed right now? we also discovered that a police officer excellently fired his gun in his paddock's hotels suite iner the night of the shooting. how did that happen? guns don't often accidentally discharged. they are accidentally fired. what were the circumstances this firing? we are not trying to push a wild conspiracy theory. it's possible that the trilateral commission was involved with the more likely and in fact far more terrifying explanation is incompetence. the people running this case don't really know what they are

doing. you hate to conclude something like that but it's becoming hard not to, especially when you consider the las vegas case in its larger context. this is not the only federal investigation that has shaken public confidence recently, consider some of the others. the fbi had omar matina under surveillance for ten months and yet, somehow did not hinder his planning or execution of the pulse nightclub massacre. the fbi was also apparently aware of the new york city killer sayfullo saipov. the fort hood shooter, boston bomber, and a list of other killers, but failed his top any of their attacks. how come? the fbi famously investigated hillary clinton's email server for more than a year, during which time, for some reason, the bureau gave immunity to several top aides were no obvious reason and failed to tape-record key interviews. why is that? speaking of emails, the fbi never examined the dnc's email server after it was supposedly hacked. in fact, they accepted the claim
9:03 pm
of a private contractor employed by the democratic party that the hacking was the work of the russian government. why didn't one of the bureau's many tech teams conduct its own investigation of the matter of this important and politically sensitive? meanwhile, in case after case, the fbi supposedly's and can white collar division has leaked details to the press. how does that restore public confidence in federal law enforcement? it doesn't and it shouldn't, of course. we have a right to be worried about the fbi. there is no more powerful federal agency in this country. they can read your email, they can root for your bank records, they can break down the. front door of your house, and arrest r children. lying to them is a federal crime. we need to be absolutely certain that the fbi is worthy of the power we give them. what is happening in las vegas right now is one of many reasons to wonder if they are. a lawyer representing several of the victims of the vegas attack joins us tonight.
9:04 pm
craig, thanks for coming on. you are one of the few people who has been to the scene of the crime. did anything useful come out of that? did you learn anything? >> yes, sir. several things. number one, we know that the fbi has taken all the bullet marks and bullet holes and all the bullets. the other thing that is interesting, all of our clients are telling us that on the night of the shooting, there was nowhere togh go. come on. we can see that there are exits in the o plans, and the maps, ad when you are actually there, you can see that most of the exits were w blocked, many of the exis were behind fences, and there were only chirico places in which to escape. that is very concerning, especially when people got hit and killed 10 minutes after the shooting started. >> tucker: is there any indication, or have you received any, seen any evidence that the fbi had knowledge of stephen paddock? anything about him before this happen? >> not yet.
9:05 pm
we don't have anything released from the fbi or the law enforcement agencies about him. >> tucker: lies that? >> i don't know. i do think that after 30 days, we ought to be having more information than we have right now. for example, we know bits and pieces. we know that he arrived with ten bags. we know that two bellmen help to carry them up and then we found out that there was ten bags had guns of men, 5,000 rounds of ammunition. we know that mgm claims to have, and "if you cease and the, say something" policy, and you are telling us that no oneness all those guns over a five day. not? no made, no housekeeping, no food service, every sunday for guns? no one saw him setting up security cameras? these are all things that need to be answered. i know you have asked the same question as to where we. >> tucker: some of them -- i had not asked some of those.
9:06 pm
how did he get access to the service elevator? >> we don't know. we have our two separate things. one, he asked to use it so he left them, and two, since he was a fee down like, he was allowed to have access to the service elevator. either way, it's concerning. more concerning, how did the bellmance hall up ten bags with long, heavy rifles in them, 5,000 rounds of ammunition, they had this corporate watch center where they allegedly teach their people, if you see something, say something, and no one says anything? and if they did come up what happened to that information? i think the 27 high-powered rifles, that ought to pique somebody's interest. that is the questions we want answered. >> tucker: have you been able to speak to jesus campos? >> no. neither have you. no.ucker:
9:07 pm
it is our impression from watching that mgm has kept pretty tight management of the things that he says in public. why would you think that would be the case? >> maybe they are concerned about he's going to say. maybee they are concerned that he's not going to stick with the mgm story. but eventually, he will be examined under oath by attorneys in these cases. it is going to be important to know the timeline, from what he says and from what the other two, now we know there were two other police officers on the floor with.we him. those are all questions that have to be answered. they eventually will. >> tucker: wait -- i'm sorry. police officers are mgm security guards? >> as of yesterday, it was the two -- we knew about campos, but they were two other police officers from the mgm that were
9:08 pm
on the floor prior to the shooting. that is part of the ever-changing timeline. >> tucker: just to be clear, not las vegas police department, but mgm employees acting as security? >> no. as they report yesterday, there were two off duty officers -- >> tucker: off duty. okay. >> they responded to campos prior to the shooting beginning. >> tucker: huh. this is getting more confusing by the day. craig, thank you. a former nypd officer and secret service agent and a former marine special officers mission and a ceo of the security consultants and training join us. kelly, you have seen a lot of shootings in your long and varied life. what jumps out at you as you look at the facts? >> how many years has it been since oswald supposedly shot kennedy? >> tucker: good point. >> anytime bullets start flying, the fog of war figures and, it
9:09 pm
will be confusing. there are some things that jump out. the conspiracy theorists are doing their work, and wondering why. one of the first things that jumps out at me is paddock pulled out these weapons, you just heard the attorney say, how did he get them up there? how many times do golf clubs go inside thats hotel? and those paid employees that are there or at the bottom of the pay scale. do you think that they are risking their job to bring suspicion against what was supposedly a whale, guy making a lot of money? there is a human element here that has to be accounted for also. it's not black and white. good that i have made repeated runs upstairs with a bell card l make it? of course. what seems obvious sometimes isn't. there has been talk about security cameras, that they were not present.r were they not present because they were never installed? or were they removed? why were they removed? he could not have removed them because obviously, security personnel, if they saw him doing
9:10 pm
it, it would have been an issue. that's an issue. i would think that they probably were never installed or would be repaired. >> tucker: dan, you worked for both the nypd and a federal agency, the secret service, is it obvious to you watching who's in charge of this investigation and biass in their a central narrative coming out? why is isn't one person speakig for the whole investigation? >> based on who's controlling the evidence, the fbi, it seems to be that the bureau is directing this. i like how you opened. i think you made a reallyin salient point that deserves repeating. we are at a time in american history of our confidence in our federal law enforcement, whether it is the collection of metadata, the politicizing of our fbi, this is not the time to keep a lid on one of the largest mass murderers in american history. if you have information, gosh,
9:11 pm
you got to get it out there, tucker. how is it -- think about it -- we had this absolutely horrifying tragedy in new york. we have already got the motive, we have the suspect, and we have a general idea from 30,000 feet above what happened. how is it that we still have no idea about with the motivators or, if they do, they at least haven't told the american people to put them at ease? we were the victims, the the american people. >> tucker: i agree completely. kelly, we learned that a firearm was discharged accidentally somehow in the hotel room. i think the police described it as an accidental discharge. you firearms accidentally discharged? >> the term for firearm trainers is negligent wow negligent discharge. it takes big stones to go into a room where someone had been firing a rifle. the normal active shooter responses to go to the crisis point where there was an explosive breach when theyy went in, i don't know if that had toy be in place, if that figures into the timeline, but it might
9:12 pm
have happened on a reupholstering. certainly, there was not any furtive motion that the officer could have alerted on. people make mistakes. it is easy to be critical afterwards. >> tucker: for sure. this is the whole question. why wouldn't you have conspiracy theories around an investigation where there is no clear source of information? gentlemen, thank you very much. police are still probing the deadly attack tuesday night in manhattan where sayfullo saipov murdered eight people. geraldo rivera joins us with the latest on that. geraldo, good to see you. what did we know? >> tucker, if i may comment briefly on vegas, i think that if -- two big lawsuits were filed last night by consortium led by the "los angeles times." they were all suing for body cams, searchod warrants, they ae as impatient as you have been leading this charge to find out
9:13 pm
what happened. if i may, briefly, i think that the person or the entity with the biggest motive to fudge with the timeline would be mgm, the mandalay bay. why? if indeed to 6 minutes passed between campos being shot and paddock opening fire on the crown, that is an intolerable length of time before 911 was called. the smaller the time, the less the negligent liability of the hotel would be. if paddock shot campos and opened fired on the crowd, very little negligence to the mgm or -- over difficult to prove. if the timee is 6 minutes, my god, how could they not call in 6 minutes? mgm has motive to shorten that timeline. >> tucker: lawyer should not be control of any of the information coming out of this case. it's appalling that lawyers have
9:14 pm
thisch much influence. >> believe me, they have the best lawyers in the country. their job is to minimize the tort liability, the civil liability, and the hundreds of millions of dollars, when you think 58 dead people, scores injured, every one of them has either a wrongful death or infliction of emotional or physical wounds. it's an enormous liability if they are found indeed negligent. in terms of new york and what happened with the mowing down of these poor people, eight people, five of them from argentina, you know, the big question is why didn't we have a red flag about this sky in the mosque in paterson, new jersey. my first assignment when i came to work at fox news was to go to new jersey in the wake of 9/11, go to the mosques, including those in paterson, and find out why the response of the muslim
9:15 pm
community was estimated as it was. why weren't they as outraged as -- allegedly -- as the rest of the american community? that was my first assignment 16 years ago and we are back there again. why didn't we know what this guy was planning? what about his family? he lived next door to the mosque in paterson. why don't we know more about the buildup? is it conceivable that people did not know or should not have known what he was planning? this guy is toast. he's not going to guantanamo bay, he will be tried, convicted in the southern district of new york, lower manhattan, an hour away from his hideous climes, and he's goingl over to get the death penalty. >> tucker: geraldo rivera, thank you. republicans dropped their tax plan today. you'll notice we did not plead with it. there is a reason for that. it is unclear exactly what some of it means. there is a ton of propaganda out there about the tax plan but
