tell your doctor about all the medicines you take... ...and if you're pregnant or planning to be. ask your dermatologist about otezla today. otezla. show more of you. julie: fox news alert, president trump departing on his first trip to asia as commander in chief. air force one taking off from hawaii a short time ago and now headed to tokyo amid heightened tensions over north korea's nuclear ambitions. hello, good afternoon, welcome to america's news headquarters. >> i'm connell mcshane. julie: good to have you on a saturday. >> we have some time to build up -- julie: i hope it doesn't backfire. >> that's a good way to start. firsthand look at some of the countries that are most at risk from north korea's missile arsenal. we will start there. he had a shortstop in hawaii, he
11:01 am
and the first lady visiting the pearl harbor memorial when they were there. so as he heads to tokyo, let's take you there, kevin cork is out and joins us from tokyo right now. a couple of issues, kevin, number one on north korea, is it fair to say that the white house is looking at trying to build up a consensus during this trip on what to do with north korea? >> it's a good question, frankly, connell. i think the fair answer is simply no because as much as they would love to have consensus on north korea, i think the best scenario, white house officials will tell you, simply getting to a point where they agree with partners on the region to proactively against north korea without consulting partners in the peninsula and that may be difficult to do, that's part of the conversation the president will certainly have with prime minister abe as he makes his way to japan. as you pointed out within the last hour, the president did leave the 50th state, beautiful hawaii, departing hawaii not long ago making his way up here
11:02 am
to lengthy trip, by the way, five-country trip, more than 11 days, longest by an american president in asia, you know, about a quarter century. before heading this way, the president was briefed by leadership from u.s. pacific command in hawaii, joined by his wife first lady melania in that visit at pearl harbor, a solemn occasion indeed and also visiting the memorial, white house chief of staff john kelly, take a look at his picture, his son, you may recall, killed while serving in the marine corps in afghanistan, clearly a solemn reminder of a sacrifice so many have made on behalf of a grateful nation. and how about this? a look behind the curtain, so to speak, a tweet by the secret service of presidential vehicles being loaded of the trip to asia including the beast, that's what we call the main transport vehicle that transports the first family both at home and abroad. all right, so first up, it is obviously a trip here to japan and then south korea where as you pointed out, the president is at least searching for a
11:03 am
united front against north korea. after that he heads to beijing where we expect the president to continue to apply the pressure on china's president xi jinping to just get tougher on pyongyang. the president will also make a couple of stop in vietnam and extend philippine stay by at least a day before heading home. should be interesting, indeed. they'll be talks here obviously with shinzo abe, president of japan, working lunch and if he gets an opportunity, we expect the president to my a little golf with shinzo abe. a little cold. >> if north korea is topic number one as you layed out, it has to be trade on the economic agenda at least would probably be a topic 1a, what are the goals there on the trip when it comes to trade for the president? >> bottom line is trying to sure up the trade imbalances and i think you and i have talked
11:04 am
about this previously, there's a great deal of discussion about the trade imbalance between u.s. and china and rightfully so but what people don't talk about is the u.s. has massive trade imbalances with a number of asian pacific countries including japan and i may share a number that may surprised, 51 billion-dollar trade imbalance with japan just through august of this year alone. that's the last month that figures were made available to us and so the u.s. is obviously looking to hammer a more favorable trade environment for u.s. good trades and services or retaliate just a bit against economy that prevent a more fair and equitable trade relationship with the united states. it's a major issue and not one that should separate partners from the u.s., in fact, it should bring us together, the u.s. administration is hopeful that they can do more to close the gap because i have to tell you, it is a sizable one. connell. >> this is a big trip and a long
11:05 am
one. kevin cork live ahead of the president in tokyo, thanks, kevin. julyly. julie: in washington claims by former acting dnc chair donna brazile painting a grim picture of the democratic party during the 2016 campaign. in fact, in her book brazile seems to be backing up allegations that the race for the democratic nomination was tipped in hillary clinton's favor. ellison barber joins us live with more, hi, ellison. >> hi, julie, criticism on both sides of the aisle after brazile published excerpts in the book, she accuses the clinton campaign and dnc of entering into in her own words unethical fundraiser agreement before clinton won the nomination and they say it gave her -- brazile says it gave hillary clinton significant control over the dnc. some democrats say it's proof the dnc rigged the election and changes need to be made. >> very quickly, senator, do you agree with the notion that it was rigged?
11:06 am
>> yes. >> we must bring about real campaign finance reform. we must get rid of the undemocratic system of super delegates. >> president trump tweeted that this shows clinton rigged the election and that the doj and fbi should be looking into all of it, brazile tweeted back that she never claimed clinton rigged the election, in the excerpt says what happened was not illegal. the agreement in question was leaked to a number of media outlets, the agreement first obtained by nbc news said that in exchange of helping dnc to raise money and desperately needed hillary for america staff would have a say, quote, join authority over strategic decisions over staffing, budget and communications. the agreement said it applied to general election and not the democratic primary. it also said the dnc could enter similar agreements with other candidates, according to washington post dnc chair and deputy chair both pledge to
11:07 am
reform the party in light of allegations. julie: ellison barber, thank you. >> we bring josh, politics editor for national journal. josh, good to see you. on this whole idea of the donna brazile story, interest on a couple of different fronts. it looks like something happen that may very well been quite unfair but the president has gone after its own justice department here. it does bring up the question, what happened illegal, what about your reporting on that? the difference between unfair and illegal. >> it's definitely not illegal. it be strong financial position at the time that they win the nomination. and as ellison was just reporting, the funds that were raised raised in this joint fundraising committee were tailored for the general election and not to be used against bernie sanders or
11:08 am
other opponent. donna brazile may have credibility issues. she got some of her facts wrong and donna brazile, the former party leader who leaked questions in a debate to hillary clinton and put bernie sanders at a distinct advantage. she's clearly trying to do some good for herself, reputation is somewhat -- >> maybe not the best spokesperson on this topic, is that your point? >> not at all. she's also writing the progressive wave, she know that is the momentum party is with the bernie sanders folks, with the left, she's trying to after the fact trying to get on that band wagon even after she was a big clinton supporter in 2016. >> where does that party go from here? where does the democratic party go from this? >> yeah, democratic party is badly divided as they are out of power and we have big governor's election in virginia which democrats thought was theirs to
11:09 am
win lieutenant governor ralph was running tuesday and favorite for quite some time and now democrats are getting nervous, progressives in virginia that don't like the nominee, they think he's being too moderate and these divisions in the party are taking place across the country and they are jeopardizing ability to take advantage of all the energy that's been -- been accumulating since president trump got elected. >> the final point on this, josh, ellison brought this up and to some extent we talked about it a few minutes ago, the president has gone after justice department on all this and puts attorney general not for the first time, jeff sessions, in the cross hairs, what's the fallout from all of that, do you think? >> it's fairly inappropriate for a president to go after his justice department. there's usually a strict separation traditionally between the president and the doj. that's unusual and he's also trying to make a big deal about the democratic problems with the dnc, they are pointing the finger on clinton -- to
11:10 am
clinton's advantage to the primary but that's not something that's a legal issue. trump is weighing in issue. >> other presidents haven't. it's been unconventional approach from day one but there may be a political advantage, maybe he knows that. do you think there is one? >> there may be a short-term political advancement. it creates some problems because he's essentially criticizing his own attorney general jeff sessions as you alluded to and sessions is on the hot seat, a lot of members of congress believed he wasn't fully truthful about his testimony about russia, you know, when he went before congress. so trump is putting as much pressure on his own attorney general jeff sessions as he is in trying to exploit -- >> what's the big picture fallout from all of the revelations, if we want to call them that, that came from donna brazile from the book?
11:11 am
is it more on democratic side, the argument that it's the official end if we needed an official stamp on it of the clinton era that that is over with or is it more on the president's side and his relationship with attorney general and justice department? >> big divisions in both parties, that's why we are in such unpredictable political year. we have both parties at war on themselves. we don't know where the cookies are going to crumble. >> crazy times, indeed. good to see you, thank you very much. >> thank you, connell. >> all right. julie: north korea leader calling for the modernization of the car industry in his country. state media releases images of him inspecting a truck factory. foreign analysts suggests the visit emphasizes the push for economic development and are keeping a close eye on how they are affecting north korea's economy. pyongyang last known major missile test was on the 15th of september. >> now, two tax reform and vice
11:12 am
president pence with the visit to pennsylvania this weekend selling the gop tax plan today two days after house republicans introduced their long awaited bill. president trump praising the plan to try to fix the nation's tax code. >> and that's why we are working to give the american people a giant tax cut for christmas. we are giving them a big, beautiful christmas present in the form of a tremendous tax cut. it will be the biggest cut in the history of our country. it'll also be tax reform and it'll create jobs. >> all right, democrats as you you would expect critical. >> we can expect to hear a lot of those criticisms in the weeks ahead because we have hundreds of special interest groups that are pouring over the gop's plan to see how it would affect them
11:13 am
and changes they want to see. a handful of republicans that have come out and said they will vote against it if changes are not made and in particular they are concerned about two changes in the gop's tax plan, one being a 500,000-dollar cap on the mortgage interest rate deduction, the other being the elimination of deduction for state and local taxes. those changes don't mean much if you live in a state like wyoming and idaho with low housing and cheap housing but folks with higher taxes and more expensive real estate like new york, new jersey, california, they'll likely be paying more in taxes than they do now but at least in those two categories. gop lawmakers in those states are pushing for changes. >> there might be the sugar high of growth for a year or so but you are going to be stuck with debt that's going to be passed onto these children, for a tax cut per people at the very top. >> and you heard that from the top democrat in the house ways means committee and democrats argue that republicans are going to have a hard time paying for
11:14 am
this no matter what and that's the real issue for republican leadership now is that they need to find a way to officially balance the budget here, finding a way to pay for tax cuts that they are proposing. republicans will still have to make up for it somewhere else and that's what -- the debate going forward is to see where they are going to make cuts and where they will pay for it, connell. >> we will talk about it more garrett, a lot of winners and losers, julie. julie: isis on the major brink of loss at a key border crossing. the group finds itself surrounded. president trump heading to japan on 12-day hour to asia, very first as commander in chief. the message he's sending on north korea next. >> friend and foe like that the united states stands ready to defend itself and allies using
11:15 am
the full range of capabilities. 'o show drip coffee drinkers, it's time to wake up to keurig. wakey! wakey! rise and shine! oh my gosh! how are you? well watch this. i pop that in there. press brew. that's it. so rich. i love it. that's why you should be a keurig man! full-bodied. are you sure you're describing the coffee and not me? but he hasoke up wwork to do.in. full-bodied. so he took aleve. if he'd taken tylenol, he'd be stopping for more pills right now. only aleve has the strength to stop tough pain for up to 12 hours with just one pill. aleve. all day strong.
11:16 am
11:17 am
11:18 am
>> new information into us really looks as isis has its back to the wall on the verge of losing key territory along the border between iraq and syria,
11:19 am
under siege from both sides. syrian and iraqi forces continue to gain ground. isis has lost 90% of its territory including key cities in iraq and also self-proclaimed capital raqqah in syria. julie: north korean nuclear crisis front and center as president trump departed from japan just a short time ago, the president's 12-day tour of asia expect today focus on presenting a united front on the need to counternorth korea's nuclear ambitions, listen. >> president trump will reiterate the plain fact that north korea threatens not just our allies, south korea and japan and the united states, north korea is a threat to the entire world so all nations of the world must do more to counter that threat. julie: california congressman
11:20 am
joins me now. thank you very much for talking us to. this is an all-important trip for president trump who has been very firm against kim jong un and his nuclear intentions, how important is this trip to asia? >> well, it's important for a number of reasons because we have a president now who is not seen as patsy, the last president we had for eight years was seen as somebody who was weak and not willing to commit force and this president they are afraid of. that's good, our enemies are afraid of our president, good and we -- he was with president abe who is really important that america establish a close relationship with abe because today our president has a vision that it's -- that abe can be part of a team that will help us and the whole world be safer and
11:21 am
i think trump is great on that. julie: the idea here is not only to present the united front with japan and our allies such as south korea as well, but to put pressure on china and by working with our allies to do that, how tough will president trump get on china or how much tougher i should say because already he has been extremely tough on this country and, in fact, china for the first time is reacting. >> well, i think that the fact that we have a president now that will not put up with having all of our technology stolen from us will not back down when you have a china that's building islands and claiming territory in the middle of the ocean and in the skies above those islands as well. chinese have been aggressive and they have been threatening and we need to make sure that we have a president that can stand up to that. we didn't get that for eight years and president xi is the
11:22 am
new mao in china but we have a tough guy to stand up face to face with him and i think the american people can have confidence that we are going to watch out economically and also national security as the president goes to china. >> as this trip starts in japan and he speaks with the prime minister there, this is a very personal issue for japan because kim jong un has made it very clear that japan is in a direct line of sight, he has always made it clear that he has intercontinental ballistic missile and capable of -- potential hard enough to reach the west coast of the united states. we don't know if he is at the point where he can actually equip these missile with nuclear war heads but nonetheless people say he's only months away from doing that. what is japan and their position in all of this in order to prevent that from happening? >> well, first of all, let's realize that when the koreans,
11:23 am
north koreans sent a missile over japan that the japanese rightfully say, no, no, that's beijing sending a message to tokyo. the fact is that china has to do more and the aggression that we could face in the threat of having a lunatic up in northern korea, i call a comey pig let who murderers and slaughters its own people, he's a threat to the whole world. the president sees it. i remember when bill clinton gave the horrible regime in north korea $4 billion in american aid so they wouldn't develop a nuclear weapon. well, this president didn't do that with iran and he's able to make the tough decisions. he will be respected an hopefully that will mean that people of north korea will understand we are on their side
11:24 am
and let's start working with the people on north korea to get rid of that regime rather than just holding our breath. julie: react to hr mcmaster comments, what's inflammatory is the north korean regime and what they are doing to threat tennessee world. as trump now seeks a united front with all of these leaders, what is the u.s.' position at this point, what are they doing as far as those aerial drills in order to prepare us for north korea not backing down? >> well, let's just hope that people understand that that's for retaliation and that north koreans have to understand that as retaliation and not as a threat that we are just going to go and start bombing them for nothing, because we don't like them, and again we have a president who is willing to be forceful, to dem crate --
11:25 am
demonstrate that we have the strength and courage. by the way, it's wonderful that we have a missile defense system. the president when he goes to south korea is going to be working on that president who wants to withdraw some of our antimissile systems from south korea, so luckily we have a guy right now who is willing to send that -- those planes into that theater in order to send a message, don't do it, don't attack us because we can obliterate you. julie: thank you very much. >> weall right, we have a groupf republican lawmakers urging robert mueller to resign. the reason for the demand is next. the virginia race, drawing national attention, closer look between a former goldman sachs executive and chris christie's
11:26 am
former lieutenant governor life happens.

11:30 am
julie: three republican lawmakers introducing a resolution that calls for special counsel robert mueller to resign immediately, they say when mueller was fbi director he actually mishandled a case where a russian-backed company purchased a canadian company that ran uranium mines in the u.s. nan hayworth, independent women's forum and ohio congressman, thank you to the both of you. first of all, what do you make of these gop representatives pushing for mueller to resign? >> i read the text of representative's resolution and he brings up superb questions and challenges about special
11:31 am
counsel mueller's potential conflicts of interest. we know now because an fbi informant has been released from his nondisclosure agreement so now he can talk with congress that there were extensive and successful efforts by russian nuclear interests to pursue bribery and corruption and overcharges in the united states to pursue control of as much as u.s. nuclear industry and marketplace as they could, u.s. uranium marketplace and we also, know, of course, that there were flows of cash between owners of those interests and the clinton foundation and president bill clinton while secretary clinton was in office and even before. so there are lots of questions to be asked and robert mueller was the fbi director for four years while they were investigating and observing all of this stuff going on, yet, one russian was prosecuted finally at length.
11:32 am
dean and director muller also prohibited the informant from talking with congress. finally, we've gotten that lift, why? there are lots of questions we can ask about why director mueller was presumably protecting the obama administration and the clintons. julie: congressman, what impact, first of all, will mueller's indictments have on the gop agenda and then how might it distract republican efforts to overhaul tax code because it seems all of this is so politicized and it's actually going to interfere with a lot of laws actually going through and anything really getting done and congress has been stuck between rock and a hard place and they haven't gotten much done? >> let's frame this discussion. you have to remember, julie, that i was one of the people when comey stepped forward and changed the outcome of the 2016 election. i object today that and suggested that it was time for him to go because he -- julie:
11:33 am
so did a lot of democrats who were interestingly now enough supporting him. >> he politicized the fbi. that's something that is horrible to do. the administration and justice has to be neutral and he politicized it. so then mueller and comey are good friends. julie: right. >> director mueller as head of the fbi, there are certainly legitimate questions about how he handled the uranium transactions or whether the fbi looked into it at all, so, you know, members of congress are raising some legitimate questions but let's face it. the american people -- whatever your political party, you're concerned about what's happened to the fbi going back to 2016 and you're conditions about the administration of justice and this has a real impact on all of events that congress has to deal with in washington, d.c. including legislation, taxation and everything else. julie: yeah, some glaring conflicts of interest that you just touched on. first of all, james comey and
11:34 am
robert mueller, they have a past, they were very good friends. secondly, a lot of the democrats when james comey went ahead and released that information on hillary clinton just prior to the election were up in arms, they were furious -- >> i was. julie: now they would be pure use if, in fact, robert mule whore protected -- he is a friend of james comey, were to be fired by the president, so there's really a no-win situation here. but it does seem a conflict of interest plays a very big role here and an investigation that holds so much weight on this president, that needs to be looked at congresswoman. >> julie, i agree. an awful lot of relationships that introduced the very plausible challenge to their objectivity including the fact that rod rosenstein who is now, of course, the deputy attorney general was the u.s. attorney at the time working with director
11:35 am
mueller on this entire russian bribery and corruption investigation that did result in one conviction, but only one and after years. james comey, obviously worked with robert mueller at the fbi, now they are looking into comey. the whole situation is flawed with lack of objectivity on many sides, why does robert mueller have to be the special counsel, he does not. julie: but is it too late? there's really no removing at this point. >> your point is well taken. that's why they are call on him to resign. julie: that's not going to happen. >> even if he doesn't, it's appropriate to bring that challenge to the american people. >> congressman, i will give you the final word and then we have to go. >> if i could add this, as events start to turn toward what happened during the time that mr. mueller was head of the fbi he should absolutely recuse himself and it looks like he's going in that direction. he has a fishing license, did
11:36 am
hebrews any evidence of russian interference in the election, i don't think so. he has ability to go through financial crimes, that's what the paul manafort charges, unchartered territory where the administration of justice and a fairness of it is certainly in question. julie: congressman denise and anne. >> we have a highly contested governor's race that we are watching quite closely. there's a new poll out and looks like it could be completely deadlock u democrat ralph northam and the republican ed gillespie they are tied. one we will watch closely as election date set for tuesday. julie: another governor's race that we are watching in new jersey, democrat and former goldman sachs executive has a double-digit lead in the polls against the republican lieutenant governor new jersey politics in the headlines recently amid the corruption trial of senator robert menendez
11:37 am
if he is force today resign, the new jersey governor will appoint his replacement. it gets interesting. fox news senior correspondent takes a look at this. >> legacy may be to hand state house to a democrat. murphy, multimillionaire goldman sachs executive has been leading christy lieutenant governor double digits in the polls despite focus on the state issue, high taxes. >> thank you very much. they are looking at me as candidate who will lower property taxes while the other guy has promised to raise their taxes. >> the choice couldn't be -- couldn't be clearer, on the one hand, more of the same, another chris christie of failed
11:38 am
politics. >> how is it going, new jersey? >> murphy brought up the big names in the overwhelming democratic state but one of his proposals has hit a nerve. >> we will stand up to this president if need be, we will been not just a sanctuary city but just state. >> preventing undocumented immigrants from being deported. >> murphy will have the backs of deranged murderers. >> an issue has stressed. >> murphy is going to raise taxes and make new jersey a sanctuary state. >> ongoing corruption of democratic senator trial of bob menendez. if he is convicted and resigns after the inauguration, the new governor would appoint someone to fill his seat. >> with the senate so evenly divided, the outcome of the new jersey gubernatorial election could determine the trump agenda and whether it would move forward with greater ease in the
11:39 am
senate. >> fox news made repeated requests to try to interfew murphy without success. continuation of governor christie, she tries to remind new jersey voters that he's no longer on the ballot. but shadow say observers could decide the race. i'm eric sean, fox news. >> we have fox news alert, u.s. service member has been killed in afghanistan, happened in eastern part of that country, u.s. officials say that he died of wounds sustained during operations there. that's about all we know, more details as they become available. julie: well, the legal troubles are just piling up for harvey weinstein, police in one city say they are investigating what they are calling credible allegations against the movie mogul, we will have the latest details on that. plus, the gop tax plan, hyped as the biggest, economic reform in decades but some conservative critics are saying, it is actually worse than what's already in place. what's up with that? we will take a look at the push
11:40 am
for republican unity. >> this is probably going to be the most substantive piece of bill going forward prudential asked these couples: how much money do you think you'll need in retirement? then we found out how many years that money would last them. how long do you think we'll keep -- oooooohhh! you stopped! you're gonna leave me back here at year 9? how did this happen? it turned out, a lot of people fell short, of even the average length of retirement. we have to think about not when we expect to live to, but when we could live to. let's plan for income that lasts all our years in retirement. prudential. bring your challenges. but on the inside, i feel like chronic, widespread pain. fibromyalgia may be invisible to others, but my pain is real. fibromyalgia is thought to be caused by overactive nerves. lyrica is believed to calm these nerves. i'm glad my doctor prescribed lyrica.

11:43 am
11:44 am
julie: more trouble for hollywood mogul harvey weinstein, the new york police department is actually saying allegation that is weinstein raped an actress twice in 2010 are credible as investigators gather evidence in the hopes of making an arrest. weinstein is accused of forcing himself on the actress after offering her a wide home following a night out in the city. police in london and los angeles have also opened investigations. >> totally different subject. we know more details about the gop's plan to overhaul the tax system in our country. they were unveiled on thursday and already we are seeing criticism from both sides of the aisle. the wall street journal out with scathing editorial saying parts
11:45 am
of the new bill are worse than what we have in place right now. gordon joins us, fiscal policy forum, two scathing editorials if you count another one this weekend, start and work backwards if we can, are they going to get things passed? how do things look from where you sit? >> look, it's important to evaluate this bill ho listically as an entire legislative effort and does it focus on the problems in the tax code, does it fix the problems in the business tax code and does it make the u.s. a better place to hire, invest and makes it more competitive in the international economy? >> and the answer is yes to that you're saying and maybe not so much on the individual side or -- >> certainly, on balance, i think it fixes the problems in the u.s. tax code that are most broken, but, you know, in response to the wall street journal editorial, if this bill is half the tax reform, that's because half of the senate took
11:46 am
a walk. if senate democrats want to defend the status quo, that's certainly their prerogative but it means that republicans are stuck with having to pursue an exercise in the politics achievable. >> follow us here at fox news channel at the top of the hour, it is tax reform and do good, bring it down to 20%, to pay for that or to at least make that less expensive to some individuals, particularly those in blue states that are paying for it and i want to go for another quote staying that there's a stealth tax on the republican side and they write gop is repudiating reagan's reform and bringing top income tax back to 50%. you have to read the whole thing to understand that. voters might as well have elected hillary clinton. that's the wall street journal. >> i wouldn't subscribe to that
11:47 am
conclusion. i think we can just look at the previous administration that had eight years to fix the tax code and they failed to do it, so, you know, i think what we have seen out of the house bill is just a reflection of what the ways and means committee is going to produce, they are going to have mark-up. the senate will do their job and we will see what the end result will be. >> speaking of that, end result, what are the most likely changes, i know we've heard from many high-tax state republicans and many are unhappy with state and local deductions going away. what are the most likely changes on the senate side if they want to get it through? >> well, my concern is about the durability of the progrowth aspects of this bill, so are they going to make the reduction in business taxes permanent or are they going to put in place the right incentives to invest. my concern is when we look over to the senate that senate rules because democrats don't want to be part of this solution and senate rules are going to
