>> that is, laura, that is right, president trump believes putin's repeated denials that there was collusion between russia and the trump campaign and he basically calls it the whole story, the allegations a bar year put up by the democratic party to keep president trump from getting down to business with russia. he said that the democrats hadn't been able to come up with the requisite talent or chemistry to make it work out with moscow so the implication is that they don't want trump to get there either. trump told reporters, how much can you keep asking putin about meddling, he said on air force one, quote, i think he's very insulted by it which is not a good thing for our country because, again, if we had a relationship with russia, north korea, which is our single biggest problem now, north korea, it would be helped a lot. now, putin and trump met up a few times at the asia cooperation summit, proper sit-down didn't happen.

putin's office said he made up for it with other meetings and other contexts. putin said that he found trump, quote, civil, well-educated and comfortable to be with. they both have really -- rather than continuously asking him about the meddling, the president fools no one, he understands that the russians intervened through the hacking and dumping of his opponents emails the fruits of which he exploited again in trail. he doesn't understand how to put country over self. mr. trump can't put america first. president trump has one more day in vietnam, one of the most prou.s. countries in the world,

looking for the united states to be a buffer against rising china. we are expecting numerous trade and other deals to be announced tomorrow. he has a series of meetings with the president, prime minister and the general secretary of the communist party as vietnam as one of the five-remaining communist countries in the world. laura. >> thank you so much. >> laura, thanks for being with us. >> thanks for having. >> president trump said to reporters about vladimir putin, quote, he said he didn't meddle, i asked him again, you can only ask so many times, he said he absolutely did not med until the election, he did not do what they are saying he did. your reaction. >> well, this is one of president trump's clear statements to date that he believes the president of an adversary over u.s. intelligence agencies, you know, trump has said this since the campaign that he doesn't believe that

russia meddled, that there's no collusion, but he's repeated it as he entered the white house and so, you know, to be frank it's pretty shocking that the president is drawing a line and saying that everything that u.s. intelligence officials have said is inaccurate. they came out with a report in january and that report was the unanimous assessment by u.s. intelligence officials saying that russia, indeed, meddled in the presidential election and we are still learning about the extent to which russia tried to influence the election. >> people lie, laura, even world leaders, the president knows this. perhaps there's more to this, perhaps he doesn't really believe putin but he's saying he believes putin, is that fair? >> well, i mean, it's kind of shocking that the president of the united states would say that -- it doesn't send a good signal

to u.s. allies that -- that someone that not only congressional, you know, republican and democrats believe that putin, you know, is a kgb thug and to say that he aligns himself with this president, vladimir putin, over intel officials, not just former intel officials but current intel officials, we saw cia director mike pompeo put out a statement saying that he stands by that assessment. and so it really, you know, raises questions as to who -- what is the position of the u.s. government, is it in line with russian president or is it with, you know, these men and women who have dedicated time and resources and investigation into this. >> russia meddling aside, we are hearing that the two leaders mostly talked about syria. what's the significance of the

brief discussions they've had? >> it's hard to say what the significance is given that the president has made a comment that he thinks that it would be good if putin pulled out of syria but, again, you know, trump has a style of trying to work out deals one-on-one with foreign leaders, but it remains to be seen whether or not there is any response from the foreign leaders when it comes to listening to trump. >> in terms of his trip, laura, he's met with a lot of asian leaders and asked for unity on north korea but apparently not so much on trade deals. what's your sense of how this trip is going so far? >> well, you know, we have two contradictory statements from trump, on one hand, he wants all of the regions' leaders and asia to rally behind the u.s. when it comes to confronting north korea's nuclear threat and on the other hand, he's saying, i'm going to take an american first

approach when it comes to trade, don't respect any more trade packs between the u.s. and your region and, so, you know, again, we have to see how the allies respond to this. >> too soon to say whether the trip is successful or not in your opinion? >> yes, i would say that it is too soon. >> but he's meeting with a lot of very important people at a very important time, is there a sense that he is getting things done or solidifying important relationships? >> well, again, i mean, the president seems to be a bit distracted while he's trying to hold this marathon trip, a very significant trip as you noted but, again, back home, there are a lot of distractions not only the ramp-up of robert mueller's investigation into russian meddling but also the accusations against roy moore, the republican running for alabama senate seat, and so this is something that the president, you know, has to deal with and is being briefed on while he's

trying to hold these meetings. >> yeah, it has been a ridiculously busy newsweek and we have much more on the roy moore story coming up right now. laura barron lopez thank you very much for your time today. >> thank you. lawr on that, republican candidate roy moore is strongly denying allegations of sexual misconduct and insists he's staying in the race. moore lashing out at the washington post saying, quote, the washington post published yet another attack on my character and reputation in a desperate attempt to stop my campaign for u.s. senate. these attacks involve minors and they are completely false and about something that happened nearly 40 years ago but more than being completely false and untrue, they are very hurtful to me personally. jonathan is live in alabama with the latest on this one, hi, jonathan. >> good afternoon, moore shows no signs of dropping out of the race and he flatly denies the allegations against him. those allegations published in

that washington post article. now earlier this morning, protestors showed up outside of public library in the alabama, that's where moore was the featured speaker at a veterans day program sponsored by the mid-alabama republican club, moore did not take questions from reporters during the speech. he mostly talked about the constitution and military service, but yesterday he did speak at length about the allegations on sean hannity's radio show. listen. >> they are bringing it up because it's political and direct attack on the campaign and involves a 14-year-old which i would have never contact with. nothing with her mother or any courthouse or anything else would not have done that. >> moore went onto suggest that democrats and perhaps even establishment republicans were behind these allegations in an effort to undermine his campaign. former trump adviser steve bannon expressed similar

the throash holds are widened. the pass-through business rate 39.6 to 40%. a lot of business income and, of course, the corporate rate to 20. we have to repatriate some two and a half, $3 trillion from abroad back home for investment. i actually believe the markets have baked in that we are going to get tax reform done. so the real danger right now would be if we don't get it done. >> right. i want to talk about the reaction because so many critics of both plans for house and senate have voiced concern about the middle class. i want to bring it back to that as well, there's been confusion on this too. you had senate majority leader mitch mcconnell misspoke that nobody in the middle-class will get increase. you can't guaranty that no one sees tax increase. what can be done to help the messaging all around on this? >> well, the fourth rate stays the same.

39.6 for people making a million dollars. all the other rates are compressed or dropped or eliminated. that's a huge tax cut for the middle class and the joint economic committees, everybody gets a tax cut. otherwise why would some people be criticizing the so-called $1.5 trillion in lost renew. >> you know, there are several differences between the two plans from the house and senate that we have illustrated here on the channel. amount of tax brackets to start with but then the areas of common ground, both house and senate bills would cut corporate tax rate to 20% and also provide businesses with tax benefit. so what do you see as some of the biggest obstacles on that front to get these plans through? do you see state and local tax deductions as a big part of this discussion? sounds like it is. >> well, it is, we can be the continue with $1.2 trillion subsidy to high-taxed states, the federal law, tax plan treats every taxpayer the same, if everybody gets nicked is state

and local because they are taxing them so much. that's where they need to focus the energy. i don't see that as big obstacle. you cannot delay a corporate tax cut, we did that in 1981 and 1982, '82 we had delay. that's got to go in my view. and it's not tax reform if you're going from 7 brackets to 7 brackets and keeping a number of deductions. whole point of this is to get people not having to itemize and take a generous standard deduction of 24,000 and get a tax cut and file taxes on a postcard. that's tax reform. >> i want to bring you in in the conversation of roy moore, will have impact on the vote, is that something you guys are looking at? >> well, i'm pretty busy here in minnesota running around seeing a lot of good veterans on the day so i'm not really focused on

bliem politics. >> sure. >> we will see how that pans out. >> we also have another congressman weighing in on the consequences of this not getting done, let's listen. >> americans are looking for tax reform and a tax break, i do think we need this for corporations to be able to grow here in america but republicans and also democrats have to be looking at this, this can be catastrophic for both parties if we can't get together to get something done. >> any reaction on that? >> i couldn't agree more. we absolutely have to get this done. we can't have a so-called majority in the senate but not really have a functional majority in the senate which we don't have right now. they need to take a tough vote. if john f kennedy were around, it would be empty pages, take the tough vote like the house did and get this thing done for the american people and get growth back up to 3 and a half,

>> today we are learning new details about the texas church gunman devin kelly. some of the survivors said they felt threatened by him in the past. casey with more on this. >> yeah, rick, well, there is this investigation playing out into what the shooter was doing leading up to last sunday's tragedy. i've got to say today and this weekend, it is all about the community and i want to step aside and let you take a live look now as just the droves and droves of people that are lined up at this make-shift memorial right on the edge of the church grounds. this is right on the side of the highway. people have been coming here, streaming through all day long, people in the community, perfect strangers, all here for a common reason to cry, pray and pay tribute to 26 lives that were cut tragically short.

they are not far from this spot, folks are saying their final good-byes to richard and therese rodríguez. their funeral begins in a neighboring town and layed to rest at the cemetery here in sutherland springs just a short distance up the road from where they were shot and killed. you know, this tragedy has truly shaken people to the core and the support has been overwhelming, many locals have told me. people are driving in from all over including a youth group we saw this morning who felt compelled to come out and lift up those who are hurting, listen. >> pray, certainly praying for all the people here but also praying for your community and then after you pray have a self-reflection a little bit and to think how much you're

you make of what we have learned so far? >> height of hypocrisy being played by hillary clinton and her campaign to paint herself as this beautiful portrayal of truth and integrity in american politics and to go behind people's backseat to secretly find this dossier that went to the media with no fact-checking, everybody and their mother knew that was false information and to come back and talk about it and saying, well, we are just discussing when in reality they talked about it because they funded it in the first place. it shouldn't be that surprising given what we have seen from the clinton family in the past decade or two. they are not afraid to go to any depths if it means anything that will help political career and in this case pushing information that they knew to be false and give must -- money to foreign-ey and distance herself at the end

when they realized it was going to backfire. >> much of the 35 page collection of memos written by christopher steel, respected former british intelligent agent by all measure has left many open questions than answers. if the dossier created a warrant of people who had reputations tarnished possibly without evidence to back it up. what kind of fallout down the road and do you think it's auditory trick? >> if you want to talk about dirty tricks which is the fact that the democrats weren't the ones to perpetrate the beginning to have research, it was the washington free beacon, a conservative-funded group that started the research on a republican opponents and then at that point when the primary was over, then, of course, fuse gps said, hey, democrats are you interested in this because this is now your opponent. this is the republicans, let's be clear on that, the second

thing regarding the dossier it didn't start any of the investigations specifically that mueller is running on whether the trump associates colluded with the russian government, it was the fact that a fisa warrant which is something that republicans supported to have a high standard to actually wiretap the -- and we found out much more information as a result of that and george pleaded guilty. that was what was the discussion and the dossier was to divert from the investigation that's going on right now. >> there's been in public allegation or specific claims about coordination between associates and russians, how and when would this be all figured out? when will we get the truth here?

>> there weren't that many facts. it's important for us to wait for facts before saying that there's collusion going on and the american people deserve to know what's going on. but, again, the way it stands now it seems like there's as much collusion going on with hillary and foreign entities as much as there is with trump and others. it's important to look at with the way mainstream media handled dossier. the trump campaign came we had information on hillary clinton, will you cover it, of course they wouldn't cover it, it's not true, there's no way to know it's accurate and they wouldn't get -- but when it's harmful to trump campaign, they run with it. >> i can hear some reaction coming from our friend, much has been made about the timing here. the dossier allegations didn't surface till after the election,

but the piece in the wall street journal shows otherwise. >> this is simply an aattempt to divert that the investigation is happening to investigate the fact that carter page was having communications with the russians and led to george, police department guilty to trying to get authorization from the campaign to meet with the kremlin government or the russian government as it were. so it's just ridiculous that we keep going back to hillary clinton when, i mean, actually trump himself, the president, was so concerned about what was going to be found out and admitted on the air that he fired comey, he brought the special prosecutor in the investigation onto him himself, this is absolutely nothing to do with the dossier. the dossier wouldn't be brought before the judge and used as reason, the intelligence government saw russian government was trying to interfere in elections and had reasons to believe from their wiretapping and other

apologize. >> it's not going save his career by saying that. it's -- it's say nothing, walk away, go away for six months and then let's see where we are at that point. >> also you may remember that richard's son accused of kevin spacey of groping him when he was 18. after the allegation came out richard said that he was proud of his son while that led to a woman of accusing richard of exposing himself to her in the 80's, denies that but did say he wasn't the nicest guy back then and i'm paraphrasing and that he did flirt with a lot of women. speaking of kevin spacey, he's been accused of 15 men of sexual assault or inappropriate behavior. he strongly denies that. there's also now an allegation out against the founder of rolling stone magazine, rick. >> surely we have not heard the end of this. >> not at all.

retired marine and iraq war veteran, thanks for your service. >> rick, thanks for having me on today. >> my pleasure. you pinned an op-ed that calls some conditions at va centers horrifying and surge -- surgical instruments covered in rust and blood. >> the new hampshire va and uncovered as a result of boston globe investigation and what i was referring to in the op-ed is there have been some improvement at the va specially under president trump and new va secretary, there is progress, there's still a lot of work that needs to be done and a lot of veterans that are unfortunately still trapped in failing va hospitals and congress really needs to act to ensure that they have the ability to get out of those hospitals by giving them health care choice. >> you said in your op-ed that there are multiple va hospitals,

1 out of 5 stars which is the worst rating. >> about a dozen hospitals across the country that received 1 star ratings and those hospitals also received 1-star ratings last year, so they haven't really improved. that's a lot of va hospitals, taking together those hospitals likely served hundreds of thousands of patients every year, so it shows you that while you might have some improvement here and there, still there's a large amount of veterans that are trapped in the hospitals and there are still some systematic issues at the va despite some good progress that we have made this year. >> and dan, you say that veterans are still dying while waiting for treatment? >> that is correct. unfortunately we do have veterans that are still winding up secret wait lists even after the wait list scandal in 2014, you saw veterans that were dying while waiting for care in the years following and that is still an issue, access is still an issue and we really can't forget that even though the problems emerged several years ago, they are still going on

today and we can't ignore them specially on days like today, we need to look at ways to fix these problems and the ball right now is really in congress' court. >> well, let's get to that, dan, the va secretary david weighed in on a bill that promise it is choice of a doctor to veterans. i want to play a sound bite and then we will get your reaction to that. >> we are committed to giving veterans more choice in their decisions, they deserve the very best and we are looking for a bill that builds choice into a permanent part of the way we take care of veterans and veterans have services in this country and we are going to continue to fight for that, the president is committed to that and i'm commit today that and i think our leaders in congress want to see that happen as well. >> how important is that, dan, and how will that help fix the ongoing problems? >> choice is absolutely essential to fixing the va. giving veterans the freedom to take their benefits into the private sector if that's what

they want, if they want to stay in the va, they can. if they don't feel the va is giving best-quality care or not convenient for them, they need to have the ability to go outside the va and ensures that you don't have veterans trapped in the failing hospitals that we were just talking about. i was very glad to hear secretary shulke say that. they need congress to pass a bill that gives real health care choice, not just choice in name only, calling something that isn't choice choice. we need to be careful of that and a couple of bills in the house that have some good things in it but they don't really offer veterans choice, so we need to be keeping an eye on this and veterans needs to be calling congressmen and senators asking them to support real choice at hospitals in the va. >> you say veterans are dying as they wait, how close are we to this actually happening? >> well, right now bills are moving through the house and

senate. you have the veterans choice program which is likely going to run out of money again by the end of the year, so hopefully we will have a bill by the end of the year, i'm confident that the house and senate are going to move something but we need to make sure it actually provides real choice and not just preserve the status quo where you continue to have the failing hospitals and veterans trapped there. >> is there anything on the veterans day that the american people can do to help? >> again, the american people and veterans specially need to make their choice heard in washington. you know, veterans day isn't just about recognizing past service, it's not just about, you know, getting free meals like free fajitas at chili's or something like that, t about advocating for something that will make the country better and veterans and all americans need to do that and need to call congressmen and senators and let them know that we need real health care choice at the va. >> dan caldwell, we appreciate your insight today, sir, thank you. >> thank you for having me on,
