2:32 pm
far beyond what the russian interference is. >> the russian interference is a national security not a political issue. this could delegitimize the election or cast doubt in the russian -- the cia's assessment that the russians interfered because he's afraid that somehow it'll undermine his victory. that should not be a consideration that he's making at this point and that what is the intelligence community has been trying to tell him for months and months, is that this should not be a partisan issue. in terms of cooperating with russia more broadly, internationally, it's become very clear over the past two decades that russia does not share moirn interests in -- american interests, russia does not share american values. it's important to try to work with russia on issues and areas where we can cooperate but that does not mean that you can give russia a blank slate and free pass. they are going to come back. if there are no consequences,
2:33 pm
then there's no reason to believe that in 2018 and 2020 they won't come back even stronger and with, you know, more vengence. eric: but you're absolutely right, russia invaded ukraine and taking crimea, russia is backing assad in syria which is now in circle towns and using starvation to kill citizens, russia has been helping iran and russia has been helping north korea by our reports, they are our adversary in so many different quarters in the world. >> right, that's why it's very, very difficult to imagine a scenario specially in syria where russia has been propping out bashar al-assad. it's hard to imagine a scenario where the united states could work proactively and effectively with russia. generally they have said now that they released a statement about possible coordination in syria but, again, russia's main
2:34 pm
goal in syria is not to defeat isis. russia's main goal in syria is that bashar al-assad stays in power. if that was not their main goal, they would have gotten assad out of power a long time ago. eric: meanwhile the investigations here continue. adam shift, the minority ranking member of the intel committee said this about the president's comments, quote, the president fools no one, he knows they intervened. fruits that he exploited in the campaign trail. the investigations are continuing. there's been an indictment for lying to the fbi. how do you think this will all play out? >> well, the congressional committees have to finish their investigations, obviously, but my sources tell me that muellers probe will be the most important investigation in terms of what he finds, what his conclusions are. adam has been very outspoken about his distaste for how the

3:19 pm
power of the presidency in terms of launching air strikes without the congressional authorization? >> well, i'm not concerned as long as we stay vigilant on committees like the foreign relations committee and we have not only held hearings on this topic of late but we are prepared to move forward and i believe that mark-up that's considered formally in a committee and authorization for the use of military force in coming weeks, so i think we are -- we are doing right by the american people, not only by having this conversation but by acting on it and it's my hope that in coming weeks we will have a bill ready that will earn both republican and democratic support. >> all right, meanwhile, in the coming weeks you have that bill and it has to do with taxes. it goes before the senate budget committee next week. they expect to have a vote just after thanksgiving we are told. what do you expect, do you think they'll get this done? >> yeah, i do. i think the president really got
3:20 pm
us off on the right foot. first of all, he unveiled the tax plan in indianapolis which was a nice start, beyond that, i like the president's framework. the president is essentially wants globally competitive rates for businesses and wants to ensure that every american has the opportunity to keep more of their hard-earned money and wants a simpler code, one where there's less of washington picking winners and losers and more freedom for consumers and for investors to figure out what they're going to do with hard-earned money. if we do that -- i think it fulfills all the president's requirements and i believe we are going to get this done hopefully before the end to have year. eric: differences with the house bill, we go to reconciliation. meanwhile there are estimates that while some middle-class taxpayers get as much as 1,300 or so dollars back, it may raise the taxes on other middle-class
3:21 pm
taxpayers, how do you balance that out to make sure the middle class isn't hurt? >> yeah, i think the objective here are -- our guiding light is to make sure that works for the middle class and people of modest means who are struggling to take care of their families. obviously the economies are changed a lot in the 30-plus years since we last reformed the tax code and the code has become complex and in the interim, but you know, i think if we really focus on the middle class and people of modest means which, i believe we have attempted to do in the senate bill, then the vast majority of americans are going to benefit from this and really the real benefits are going to be realized not in the first couple of years but the real benefits will be long-term because as businesses find it more advantageous to invest in their own workers and to invest in the capital that makes those workers more productive, they are going to be increasing the value of all -- of the work that the american ranking file worker does and that leads to increases
3:22 pm
in wages and in the end, that's all the american people want. they want a pathway to opportunity for themselves and for their children and grandchildren, good-paying jobs for everyone if they work hard and play by the rules. eric: senator todd young, we thank you tonight and thank you for your service and get to work on the taxes and also the aumf and we thank you for coming to you from indiana. >> thanks so much, eric. eric: of course, have a good night. speaking of taxes the chairman of the house ways and means committee, he will be talking exclusively interviewed by chris wallace tomorrow. you can catch the interview on fox news sunday which, of course, is here on the fox news channel but you can also check local listings on tv stations but keep it in fox news channel, tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow at night, kevin brady telling us about taxes, how they are going to save us money, i hope, and help the country and all that,

and you flew helicopters. how can you help and how does the mission continues to help other veterans make that transition when you are out in a career in the field to being behind the desk or civilian corporate life? >> yeah, one thing that binds all veterans other than the fact that they wore our country's military uniform is they were driven by a sense of service. they are part of all volunteer force and that -- that spirit of service and that desire to serve extends to their time as a civilian so when they take the uniform off, the best thing that we can do for veterans is to tell them that we still need that service and small businesses, communities, neighborhoods can thrive and flourish by challenging veterans to serve again in a variety of different ways, mentoring at-risk kids, stepping up as small business owner, working to food deserts, dive into
3:45 pm
environmental issues, so many way that is our communities can thrive by allowing veterans to serve again. eric: also so many way that is we could help as people and we have been saying all throughout the last two hours on this day, say thank you for your service as i said to you b u i want to point out what david is writing in the wall street journal, nothing however is more important to veterans who are making the transition for military service to civilian life than job, our veterans have given years to life to defense of our country, we honor by recognizing not just past service but future potential by investing in them and striving to provide not just the job that pays bills but fulfilling profession. how can the mission continue to do that specially when you hear stories about veterans that do have trouble in the transition? >> i take general's words one step further and say, not only can we give them a job, give them new mission, there are countless missions of service that are in our communities every day and veterans can dive
3:46 pm
in, veterans have demonstrated a desire to engage and vote more frequently and they work with their neighbor to eliminate problems more frequently and we can benefit as a country by investing them in making our country stronger. eric: you would certainly think they had the military service and had the experience that they can only serve them and businesses further. >> right, that's true. it's open to all armed forces so whether you've been in the coast guard, marines, family of someone who has served, you are eligible to join. eric: what do you provide? helping veterans in small businesses get loans, debt credit, that's just your forte.
3:47 pm
>> we found they can become business owners, they are just more financially prepared, 78% of them say they are more financially prepared, they have propensity to become really successful. eric: what should they do? >> if you have an idea for a business which a lot of people do and a lot of them actually when they. >> in the service started, you know, maybe with a hobby or a passion that they had and they took that passion, that idea and made money for them and an example is a serviceman who was in naples, italy and he fell in love with the way they made pizza there and he learned how to do it and came back home and when he transitioned out he opened up a pizzaria.
3:48 pm
>> do you know where it is? >> we should. eric: spencer, finally, your thoughts on this day? we walked around and had the parade in new york city, guys dressed up in uniform. new pride and sense of mission. >> i was at the parade today, i marched with my 8-year-old son and we had the great fortune to carry the the ground zero flag for a few blocks and i think on veterans day i actually think about my son and i think about a younger generation that are looking to the older generation in this country for examples of service and thousand live their lives and i can think of no better example of men and women who served in uniform and serving out again without
