>> i think he has achieved some of them. there is information we don't have on the key meeting with china. that could be because the chinese pushed back on the president asking for a tougher line on north korea. it's possible they made some progress. but they think it's premature to it out in public. i just underline, we don't have a lot of time to wait around to find out. north korea is close to being able to drop nuclear warheads on any target in the united states. if china is going to observe the unique power it has to affect north korea it needs to do it soon. >> if there is some agreement on tightening of economic pressure on north korea, and i don't mean by sanctions, i mean by china pulling the plug on its support for the regime. it takes time to prepare that.

it could be they talk botder alternatives. my preferred outcome is to reunite the two koreas. that wouldn't happen overnight. one possibility is the chinese said we are doing all we can. why don't you negotiate with the north koreans which is a complete non-starter in my view. eric: what if that was the deal? >> i think then the outcome is nearly certain north korea will get nuclear weapons. iran, terrorist groups, other as expiring nuclear powers. that's why the resolution of the issue is so important. the impact of north korea getting nuclear weapons would be considerable. >> they haven't cut off the oil or shut down the banks.

they haven't shut down the north wore rian companies, and they haven't -- the north korean companies. >> they say they don't want the north to have nuclear weapons. they say they will crack down on them. they do to a certain extent, but it's kabuki theater until our attention gets diverted. then they go back to business as usual. there is no more time for it. it's not enough to have good intentions. they need to take the kind of steps -- china is uniquely capable of doing. cutting off north korea's oil supply. helping make sure russia or iran doesn't step in to pick up the pieces. these are things china could do that we are still waiting for evidence that they are. eric: the president met with vladimir putin and before that

meeting he said he would hope the russian president could help on the north korean issue. what are the chances of that? >> i think he doesn't think north korea poses a threat to russia. and even though ultimately president trump may make a decision to use military force to destroy north korea's programs, i think he thinks he's in a win-win situation. eric: do you think he's in a win-win. >> as long as north korea is out there he sees it as a problem. any more than he sees the iran nuclear program as a problem for russia. i think china's view is the same. china and russia are very

closely coordinated on this. i think they believe for 25 years they have pretty much had their way while we stumbled around on this. we are running out of time on north korea. eric: they say within a year or so they could have the capability for the intercontinental ballistic missile that could hit the u.s. thank you for spending time with us on this sunday. arthel: we have new video showing three navy aircraft carriers off the coast of north korea. the first time in 10 years three u.s. aircraft carriers have done so. the three ships will remain together for another four days. the u.s.s. ronald reagan will stay there while the others will

deploy elsewhere. eric: are you moore is speaking out against allegations of sexual misconduct. all these allegations just surfaced in the post report with the claims. and fellow republicans are calling on moore to drop out of the race. mr. moore spoke about this. reporter: the alabama governor has no plans to drop out. republican roy moore has a month of campaigning. moore's younger brother says an article in the post alleging moore inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl when he was 32 is politically motivated. he says the allegations are

having a devastating effect on their mother. >> i have a 1-year-old mother sitting in her house crying because they eye accused her -- because they accused her son. >> roy moore remains steadfast in his denials. telling a crowd the allegations are completely false. but a growing chore us of -- a g chorus of republicans on the hill are demanding he step aside. pennsylvania congressman pat toomey said this. >> i think the accusations have more credibility than the denial. i think it will be best in roy steps aside. reporter: the allegations are fueled moore's detractors but fueled his supporters.

eric: it's a month to the election. arthel: bridget, with several republican leaders speaking out against roy moore, do you think president trump will call moore and ask him to step down? >> that's an interesting question. if he does, that will certainly impact the race. an has said he believes judge moore would step down if the allegations are true. we'll take that a step further. that's yet to be seen. but we will keep an eye on that. arthel: if the president does or does not make the call, what's the boomerang effect for the president? >> he's facing pressure the republican leaders in the national party who are similarly calling on moore to step down if the allegations are true. the real question here is what is the impact in alabama.

what are voters thinking and how are they going to respond to all of this news? arthel: i'll play sound from roy moore out campaigning yesterday. >> they are completely false, no truth. about something that happened nearly 40 years ago. but more than false and untrue, they are very hurtful to me personally. arthel: that's roy moore denying the allegations. they will, the alabama campaign committee cut ties with moore. >> the campaign raised over $100,000 since "the washington post" story published. so he's arguing they are seeing growing support and their backers are coming to their aid.

it will be interesting to see if other outside groups start to break away from moore. arthel: this is the talk of the town. >> look, we all know alabama is a tough state politically for democrats. but this is a special situation where we have a great candidate. on the other hand you have a very, very flawed candidate in roy moore. arthel: democratic opponent doug jones would be the first democrat elected to the senate in alabama in more than 20 years. even if alabama voters couldn't stomach voting for a democrat, they could stay home. th he could know longer support roy moore, how would low turnout effect that race? >> that's key to understanding this race. this is a special election in

december. there are no other races on the ballot. 367 as strategists in the state know, republicans don't have other races that will cause them to turn out. important to note, too, nor van van hollen voted, they need a perfect storm to have any chance of winning that state. but they think one is brewing at this point. arthel: how might the results of this race effect gop support from millennials and independent? >> that's an interesting question. it will be interesting to see how the party respond. if judge moore wins there is an open question as to whether senate leadership will accept him or expel him. it will be interesting to see how they and a half garrett that

question. judge moore was never expected to be an ally of senate leadership. but we'll see how they reacted with all these republican senators questioned whether he will in the race at this point. eric: republicans in both houses are making a final push for their tax plans. coming up we'll take a look if the republicans can come together to finally pass tax reform. survivors of the deadly texas church shooting are praying together and pausing to remember those killed so savagely one week ago today. they are doing so at that church which has been reopened as a memorial to those who died there. >> i remember the wonderful people. it's like losing your best friend. filed a claim, but...

dollars. gary can a lie from our washington bureau with more on the story. reporter: michael flynn has now been due to his business dealings a business dealings and lobby work on behalf of other countries namely russia and turkey in the latest investigation robert mueller's team is looking into knowledge proposal by the turkish government to have flynn and his son kidnap a political rival at turkey's president living in the u.s. and then deliver them back to turkey in exchange for $15 million according to "the wall street journal." details of the plot were also allegedly discussed before and after the election. once the meeting in september in a december meeting in new york city after flynn had been national security adviser which is another point of interest investigators given application of the u.s. official work in a current government to carry the kidnapping of a political rival. michael flynn's attorneys called these new allegations outrageous and said in a statement out of

right now some say getting tax reform done does not look like a slamdunk many republican lawmakers are hoping for. they try to aim to get this all done by christmas. ellison barber in washington with the tax plan. reporter: hi, eric appeared to some people looks like a bit of an uphill battle. maybe not as bad as health care, but an optimistic outlook from house ways and means chairman kevin brady. he says not only do they have a good tax reform plan in the house, but she says they will pass their version by thanksgiving. >> i believe you will. i feel strong support for this. we continue to make improvements every step of the way. our republicans in the house know that it is time to deliver on this economy and produce paychecks by getting rid of this current tax code. that's exactly what we're going to do. >> is. >> this is new york congressman peter king lays out some significant concerns she has.

>> radon definitely voting no. but i find infuriating if you find infuriating escape on the administration house and senate leadership say that because we lost virginia and long island and new jersey, to pass a tax reform bill which will raise taxes. trading right now to republican tax plan, one in the senate and one in the house both cut the corporate tax rate to 20% but the senate plan delays the cut by a gear. seven individual brackets, for the house plan. they let homeowners to death mortgage of $20 million. the house cut in half for the senate bill will completely eliminate the federal deduction for state and local taxes. the house bill allows deductions for property taxes up to $10,000. that was a compromise. federal federal deduction for state and local taxes are a big deal for lawmakers like congressman king, moderate republicans in the house were from high tax states.

tax deductions, how democratic they this small meeting the middle class will get the tax cut early in the attacks increased later on. is this true? >> they're making all sorts of apples and other fruits. first, for folks in high tax jurisdictions, we done the calculations. they get a tax cut. for the folks in the second part of this, in our model, only 6% of the population who pay taxes will itemize. those deductions are for only folks that itemize. eric: what about the middle class? >> then you have the other thing where many have created some crazy calculations thinking okay, everyone agrees you get a tax cut next year, but there are some things in the tax code that will fade away half a decade from now. if you do all sorts of strangling of the model you can find the books that might have

adjustment. eric: sir, have you here could you here. you you here. you taught me and speak to the middle class out there asking if they are going to have their taxes increase. >> absolutely not. the middle class gets an absolute average family about $1200 to for many of those in my district a couple thousand dollars of reduction in their taxes next year. arthel: many have new york and new jersey, what about them? >> is still get a reduction in taxes. they may not get the couple thousand my folks in arizona get, but they are still going to pay lower taxes. arthel: so, you are hoping about on your version of the tax bill this week. will the current draft, pardon me, the house gop bill be ejected and how do you move forward? is there a compromise or workaround? >> look, for a lot of my friends on the left, they've made it very clear they love some of the things that are in our tax reform package, but for them

politically, how do they vote for something that would be good for the country as well as republican? arthel: you also have republicans who are not in sync with your version. >> but there were very few. a handful of republicans because of the unique character of their districts come under a certain special interests carve out there battling for. we are trying to do something that's great for the u.s. economy, also great for the middle-class hard-working individual. i think we've done that. there is going to be changes. we are going to have to have a conference committee with the senate and work out details and every time we change sending year, we create a cascade event in the mass. this is really difficult, but an incredibly optimistic we will get this done this year. trade to about the senate republican bill, claiming it will provide $1.5 trillion in tax savings by cutting individuals in the small

business and corporate tax rates, but that wouldn't change until 2019. does that match your assessment of the bill and what is it about the senate republican bill that you like? >> verse.com i'm personally really uncomfortable with delay in the corporate tax portion because much of the modeling we worked on is what grows the economy, what provides people increases in their paychecks in the ability to save in the growth in the economy? by delaying the rolling in at 20% corporate tax rate, we are going to slow down a bit of economic expansion. for some of us, that is difficult. the other things the senate did is a terrific job sort of trying to hit those spending caps. now we have to get together and masher two plans. tree until you mentioned just how there is some -- i'm not going to call a fuzzy match, but some tricky here involved. how difficult, you just mention that were difficult. how difficult is the process of

tax reform then and where were the unforeseen roadblocks? >> it's a brilliant question and i want to ask you to write a book on this. it turns out something from the tax code that are great for economic growth are not good politics. a lot of the spending in the tax code that are great politics are particularly good in expanding the economy so you're constantly engaged in this balancing act. those things that are good politics that allow you to get the things that are great economics. arthel: at the end of the day it's not about politics comments about the benefit of the people, right? >> so often as americans, it's hard to say this is going to take a couple years of economic growth, but we will do great things for the country because if we do not expand this country's gdp growth, we are never going to keep our entitlement promises a decade, decade and a half from now. we must dramatically increase the growth of this economy.

working against bernie sanders. no doubt about it. let's look forward. the process should be up in whether it's a republican process, democratic process. no one takes the republican nomination. i think that power to be is to keep them from vietnam and they did, but they weren't successful in an open process. we are talking about america, doing the right thing. bernie, we agree on one thing. >> former senator from new york agreed with the former new yorker in vermont, bernie sanders on this. we all knew the superdelegate and not formulation. president trump even complained during the primaries about he would win the states that others would get as many or more delegates. eric: so what should they do for both parties, democrats and republican party to make it an even playing field with the power brokers on k street never agree to do that?

>> powerbroker should not be allowed to appoint a disproportionate number of representatives, former governors, so if you want to limit it to a small percentage of the state's delegation so that you keep the process a democratic one, that is fine. where you have been having an imbalance, that is wrong. if someone really carries the state, he or she should get the benefit of having one now. that's what america should be about. >> they have the unity reform committee. do you think they can actually achieve this and you think republicans should do the same thing obviously? will it get done? >> yeah, i think it will. the outrage of what took place in the fact sanders does have a large group of people, millennial, et cetera, et cetera, the fact that they've had quite an impact in the off year elections, the past ones if you look at virginia, you'll see

democrats came on a far greater numbers. if you look and see where they were, minority community and millennialist, and they made the difference. and of course, the imbalance in registration of eight years earlier, the republicans have more registered republicans and democrats today. democrats have about 10% more registered voters than do republicans. so that shouldn't be such a shock that we lost. but there are shocking areas that you look at in our own state of new york, and westchester for the county executive for republican did a good job. he got as many votes this time as he did in his last election and date. you will see that it was a tremendous number of new voters. young people and minorities. eric: what is he going forward to the 2020 election. in new jersey, phil murphy, very progressive, one of the most liberal democrats won with a lot
