eric: well, rocket on the way to the international space station. guess it's on board? pizza and ice cream. arthel: yummy. eric: we are back. >> president trump arriving at his final stop on his trip to asia and is followed by fallout this week in on russia and north korea. we're live on the ground. leland: a week after the texas church massacre, we are back in southerland springs where church members are wrapping up a service. elizabeth: one amazing story of strength and determination. one of the finest wounded warriors running 31 marathons in 31 days in different cities and countries nonetheless.
10:01 am
elizabeth: thanks for joining us this sunday. welcome to "america's news hq." leland: nice to see you. name leland vittert here in washington. the president is overseas and certainly on top of everybody's mind is this issue of north korea. we have the raw caveman tweet that broke on the show a couple months ago and now it appears the president had said new things to say about the north korean leader. the philippines this morning after sending those heated treats about north korea and offering to mediate a contentious dispute over claims the south china sea, sending the president has been talking about during his travels through the president will attend a two-day summit in which four of the five countries claim that disney waterways will be present. for more, go to kevin corke in
10:02 am
manila. play let's make a deal. do they think they can get something done on this? >> listen, this is a very good question. i have to tell you, this is one of the more complicated issues not just for the u.s. administration, certainly for the stakeholders in the region because there are a number of different countries they say they have a claim to the south china sea. we would get to the more nuanced part of that discussion in just a moment. as you point out, and this, this is the tip of the diet. also keep this in mind he's going to have a very important meeting with a man with whom frankly the u.s. has had a somewhat rocky relationship the last couple years talking about president duterte of the philippines. maybe not so much with the u.s. but the past administration of barack obama. the president hoping to smooth things over as he makes his way here. let me show you some of the trip
10:03 am
to vietnam, a beautiful country, part of a two city stop there. the president sharing the colorful side. his arrival here comes after that eventful trip in vietnam. and just ahead, and other economic. he's here for asean, gathering of the southeast asian nations and we expect the center and trade come security and increased economic ties throughout the region. the gathering is hosted by president duterte of the the philippines as i pointed out an outspoken critic of the u.s. government. in particular president obama you may remember criticized him for his human rights record. the country's foreign secretary told me it doesn't mean there won't be a bright future ahead for the two long-time allies. >> it's a relationship. relationships are complicated. you cannot beat the relationship in one blow.
10:04 am
there is strong. corp., very strong. if there was a misunderstanding with the previous administration, misinterpreted because of the different culture, i think it's repaired now. reporter: a very brief schedule tonight. the welcome of the dinner and the president is in for the evening. keep in mind tomorrow is the real busy day here as the president wants to not only have the bilateral conversation, he wants to really get down to the fact that there is a number of regional security issues most notably the south china sea that would garner great deal of attention from the u.s. administration. in the meantime the relatively cool and calm night here. back to you, my friend. trade to 2:00 a.m. they are. the united states to be a counterweight to china. you mentioned a long trip for
10:05 am
the president come a long trip for you and the rest of the fox news crew. give our best to kristen brown keeping it online and doing great work as well. >> thank you, my friend. by the way, the food, the hospitality has been wonderful, worth it for the long hours. kristen brown, you know very well. we are lucky to consider. enjoy your time off, kevin. one cannot imagine that this is an astonishing show of force today, right in front of kim jong un stores to as well. for the first time in a decade, three u.s. aircraft carriers are in the pacific. the uss ronald reagan and the theodore roosevelt. also joined yesterday by japanese and south korean forces
10:06 am
and they will be together until tuesday. trade reform on the president's trip through asia, are fair and balanced panel, democratic strategist trick rutherford and the america rising pack, alexander smith. both of you coming thank you for joining us. first and foremost, i want to start with you and get reactions can also give blake's reaction as well so far. >> of course, the two main goals on this trip were to iron out trade agreement and also deal with an escalating north korea situation. what's really interesting is the president came into this trip with a hard-line position on trade. what's interesting is that means he is able to come to the table with them and to offer within nations who will be partners in the escalating it would seem that he's able to get a little bit to get a little bit. it is interesting that he
10:07 am
brought the populist message on trade and is now trading that in the negotiation process over north korea. >> u.s.a. project days. blake coming your reaction. i'm curious to see what you think. >> it's an incredibly confusing trip. they talked about this primary goal to be very strong on trade. a bad idea for lots of reasons. he's gone to china and were not sure what he accomplished there and then he managed to sidetrack himself of course i pledging allegiance to vladimir putin and criticizing kim jong bone for his appearance. i'm not entirely sure. elizabeth: two very different perspectives. you brought up russia, so i sort of want to segue one of the trees we saw this morning and it reads in part, when will all the
10:08 am
haters realize that having a good relationship with russia is a good thing, not about pain? they are always playing politics come about for country. on a north korea come ukraine, russia can help greatly. i assume you have different perspectives here because the second half where he says listen, and we can they protect it. we can move forward the relationship. on a server to you. do you feel that way? >> i think without a doubt russia did interfere in the election. that being said, the important investigators looking into how much they did interfere. robert mueller the kenai from the administration side. republican-led congressional committees also looking into this. i think without a doubt, you know, if you look at who keeps bringing russia to the forefront of the conversation, it's a democratic party whether it's donna brazile spoke were times i are going on television talking
10:09 am
about impeachment, there are looking for a bogeyman and i think that this comes down to the fact that hillary clinton didn't lose the election because of russia. she lost the election because she was possibly one of the worst in our country. i think democrats will he keep bringing this is a forefront when import investigations are going on alongside of it to ensure that this kind of attack doesn't happen again. elizabeth: blake come in the word because the president has said that he's back on intelligence agency something is repeated in the last 24 hours had what's your take on this? we are still talking about it. >> we're talking about it because the president treated about it. this is something democrats brought up on his trip abroad. the president street indicated the intelligence community were political hacks. since clarified his statement to the extent he agreed with the second statement. his administration doesn't believe russia meddled in this
10:10 am
election and very committed to america first, i don't understand how aligning yourself with funding approved as a demonstration of the america first strategy. john mccain was critical of and sally uses critical of it. you'd be well served to listen to. >> you wanted to see him be more critical and not get both of your takes on this. did you feel as if he gave the russian president vladimir putin a pass on this or do you think he handled it correctly? i assume you both will have different answers. >> if you're asking me of course he gave president putin a pass. the only thing president trump has done is to ask if he modeled. president putin says no and trump said they believe him. despite what our intelligence community, the entire intelligence community has sent about this. certainly he is now holding president putin of russia accountable by any means. >> i think we don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
10:11 am
certainly a number of investigations looking into this and informing the president about what did and didn't happen in the course of the election and we can also see the president is looking for allies in the escalating the situation in north korea. relationships are complicated and it actually foreign relationships. the president is looking for allies where he needs them, but also to hold people accountable. elizabeth: thank you for joining us. we really appreciate it. leland: just as many republicans line up behind roy moore. moore's critics want him to drop out over allegations of romantic relationships with teenagers back when he was in his 30s. moore denies any wrongdoing and that blasted the recent accusations of fake news. jonathan serrie live from alabama house we are just a couple weeks now before the special election. >> hi camellia land.
10:12 am
kay ivey has no plans to reschedule the senate elections though roy moore as months of campaigning before doug johnson added that drop of allegations of impropriety. an article in the "washington post" was more he inappropriately touched a little grow and this is politically motivated. >> if i know my brother like i know him, and no these are false accusations and they'll be proven later. just turn this election. >> meanwhile, voices are mounting for roy moore to step aside and those calls are coming from both sides of the aisle. listen. >> always going to be one or two issues are individuals that may be outside the scope of the average. but i think all deductions, all of the areas, the 15%, 10%,
10:13 am
all%, all those areas have tax cuts are not that important, making sure overall middle americans get that. >> obviously that was the wrong soundbite here religious conservatives still remember when moore was alabama's chief justice refused to remove a 10 commandments monument a court order to remove a 10 commandments on you meant he had installed in the state supreme court when so many of the religious conservatives in the state continue to rally behind roy moore. they say that they trust him and also believe in his stand on social issues. back to you, leyland. leland: story far from over. jonathan serrie, thank you. elizabeth: house republicans are prepared to challenge colleagues in the senate over tax reform. house and senate republicans each submit a different tax plan, but stick by their promise
10:14 am
to pass reform before christmas. ellison barber has the very latest. >> house republicans seem to think they are on the right track with their plan. house ways and chairs comedians say not only do they have a good tax reform plan, but they will pass their version of the house by thanksgiving. >> i believe it will. i feel a strong support for this. we continue to make improvements, but i republicans in the house know that it is time to deliver on this economy and grow these paychecks by getting rid of the current tax code. that's exactly what we're going to do. elizabeth: near congressman peter peter king laid out his concerns. >> this is like a class warfare. john kennedy and ronald reagan said a rising tide would show her vote. since when do republicans can the party of class warfare? >> two republican tax plan says he said. one in the senate and one in the house in the house prefer
10:15 am
individuals that are were seven brackets in the plan. for the house band. let's mortgage interest for $2 million. the house cuts it in half. but the corporate tax rate to 20%. it delays that a year and would completely eliminate the federal deduction for local taxes. up to $10,000. the last difference is a big deal for lawmakers like peter king or friends in very high tax state. >> right now i'm voting now and what i find infuriating is when the house and senate and in long island, and the answer to that is to pass a tax reform bill which will raise their taxes. >> brady made a promise untaxed
10:16 am
news sunday later today. he says basically that if the senate sent them a number where they eliminate deduction for state and local taxes that they won't even really look at it. they said that is not something that they would want to consider over on the house side that president trump wants a bill on his desk by chris smith and in the house a bill made it out of committee with full republicans support but in order to get something to the president's the president does come in the house and senate have to agree on one bill and clearly from what we are hearing from some of my congressman king, and all republicans are on the same page just yet. >> they have a lot to work out. thank you so much. leland has more. trained in the spring and dan kilby, democrat for the great state of michigan. good to see you, sir. appreciate you being a friend of the program. you've got to be just loving all
10:17 am
this republican insight. >> well, i mean. leland: yeah, yeah, okay. >> from a partisan standpoint, of course. the reason i got elected is because they wanted to get things done. so yeah, the frustration that we see it not getting things done is offset slightly by the fact is republicans siding with republicans. we really ought to be able to do tax reform in a way that's open and bipartisan and transparent. when i'm frustrated by is they create this false deadline based on a political panic that they haven't gotten anything done. if we are going to do it, let's do it right. leland: it is noteworthy that the ronald reagan tax reform in 1986 took a year to come up with and even then there was a lot of fighting and false start. to that end, maybe someone is watching this program, find some common ground. this is a republican yesterday,
10:18 am
congressman ran a seat talking the corporate tax situation, possibly cutting corporate rates. let's take a listen. >> the most important thing lowering for middle americans and we have to be able to do that to be competitive. we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world and we have one of the highest effective tax rates in the world. that's why businesses are leaving going overseas. leland: just south of you in ohio, also a state that donald trump one. is he right on the corporate tax rate? is this something you can come together on? >> yes, we can come together of what we were doing was lowering the corporate tax rate and broadening the base and taking out some of the inequity. as we know, many corporations don't pay anything even close to the corporate tax rate. some don't pay any taxes at all. when we talk about ringing down the corporate tax rate, all of it until just now has been to do
10:19 am
that by making it more fair, by broadening the base. what happens is they bring down those rates, but they keep all of those loopholes instead of having no supply against a 35% tax rate, they will play against the 20% tax rate. >> there is that issue. the other issue that democrats have with the republican plan is what it does to the national debt. president obama for a long time, controlled by the democrats, you can see almost doubled from 10 trillion to 20 trillion. why now this huge alarm bells from democrats over the national debt that didn't exist when obama passed in the stimulus passed. >> first of all, i don't think that's an accurate characterization. it exploded, deficits under ronald reagan asked voted.
10:20 am
we have to we have to deal with deficits, but there's a difference between borrowing money on your credit card and borrowing money on your mortgage. this is credit card debt. this is not like wiring money to invest in infrastructure, which is what many of us believe. this is credit card debt. >> they've got to take a little bit of issue with you here. you deny that if you lower taxes across the board, the rising water lifts all ships. this is investing in the american people's pocketbook and letting them spend more about money. >> no economist has said this $1.5 borrowing will be made up for economic growth. nobody is saying it. but they are saying is the third of that would be made out. leland: that is a fair point in terms of how much economic growth you get out of something
10:21 am
for debate. good to see you, sir. thank you. all the best. elizabeth: one week since the deadly shooting in texas. our own casey stegall is live. rmi port, not maxed. he app and.. filed a claim, but... you know how they send you money to cover repairs and... they took forever to pay you, right? no, i got paid right away, but... at the very end of it all, my agent... wouldn't even call you back, right? no, she called to see if i was happy. but if i wasn't happy with my claim experience for any reason, they'd give me my money back, no questions asked. can you believe that? no. the claim satisfaction guarantee, only from allstate. switching to allstate is worth it.
10:22 am
10:23 am
10:24 am
10:25 am
elizabeth: memorial instead. son prince charles with the mont assigns for british citizens caught in the work of the grand sons prince william and prince harry, both military veterans also laid wreaths in a very special ceremony. >> springs baptist church on his first worship service since last week's deadly shooting. hundreds of worshipers and well-wishers gathered in the rain down in texas to pay their respects and ask for god's blessing going forward. casey stegall live in southerland springs. reporters kim is not allowed inside the service, but i would suspect the whole town is stealing debris still one week
10:26 am
later. >> at camellia lane, it is possible as you are hearing other land springs, a place where everyone pretty much knows everyone. on a typical sunday morning, around a week ago this time, you would normally have parishioners knowing about out here in front of the first baptist church of southerland springs. on this day, you can see live the flags remain at half staff and a black t.a.r.p. fence still up around the property with one person posted outside. less than a mile from the start in a wet baseball field is where members are worshiping today. a powerful service which began close to bedtime a gun man blew through their sanctuary doors come in changing this community forever. the pastor here who have been to be out of town with his wife last sunday, frank komori stresses faith is what will get them through this.
10:27 am
listing. >> as he allowed his son to die, his son was again, this church will rise again. our family will rise again in southerland springs will rise again. reporter: pastor palmer is for teen-year-old daughter annabelle was one of the big guns per issue is not out of town with her mother and father as the 77-year-old dennis johnson senior and his wife of 44 years, sarah. mr. johnson was the church aldrin served in the u.s. navy reserves and the army national guard. mrs. johnson loves children and volunteered at the church nursery. both will be laid to rest leaders today. visitation services also scheduled today for a 16-year-old hayley krueger. her mother says the teen off and volunteered her time at church functions. the ninth grader had dreams to become a nurse so she could help
10:28 am
others. in our last report in the last hour, we mistakenly showed a different victim's picture while we were telling you about hayley, but this is hayley krueger and i sincerely apologize for that error. leland. leland: kc, thank you. casey is just a little ways from where the memorial service is just wrapping up. senator cornyn of texas was another memorial service addressing the media. you can see him walking out their hand in hand. we will wait for him to walk. we are told he will address the media. bring you back in here real quickly. give us a sense down there. you talked about the palpable grief. as grief. as everyone seemed to echo the same mentality we heard from the pastor that there will be redemption and that god has a plan or is there a lot of anger? >> leland, i have to say that i have been impressed and
10:29 am
awestruck over the strength of faith from people in this community. you know, when you talk to the pastor, we haven't seen him. leland: we are going to interrupt you. we will be back in a second. >> i wanted to come to southerland springs and worship with these remarkable people where they find the strength to carry on after such a terrible tragedy is truly remarkable, but it is clear they are people of deep faith and that is what sustains them and gives them hope, even during dark times like this. i am glad we could be here today and worship with them, pray with them and put our arms around them and support them in any way we can. >> how did you feel, very uplifting, very positive.
10:30 am
a lot of people find it remarkable that happened a week ago here. >> it is remarkable. when i spoke, most of this defies the powers of comprehension. not pastor pomeroy. he realized that there is a higher power, that he is in charge in d.c. pastor pomeroy and his wife having lost her 14-year-old daughter endears inspirational words, i saw him standing there at the front of the church, comforting others and he lost his 14-year-old daughter. it is remarkable, but a testament to their faith and compassion for others during this very difficult time. >> senator, you talk to senator goldstein last week at how much you know about what the air force learned about this man when he was in the air force,
10:31 am
particularly at home. "the new york times" story said he had violent tendencies even when he was there. he was a guy who seem to never get its act together. >> well, one thing we know for sure and i'm sure more information will come out. one thing we know for sure if this individual should not have been able to legally purchase a firearm. we have a background check system designed to weed out people with mental illness, people who are convicted felons, people who are child and spouse abusers and this individual was all of those things. but when he went to purchase firearms, i believe for firearms if i'm not mistaken, he lied on his dark brown check and the fbi background check system with so-called mixed system was failed. it failed traps for many reasons, but we know for sure that the air force failed to
10:32 am
upload this information into the background check system. but i'm just a cursory examination, it appears this is not an isolated event, that there are many convictions in the military court in civilian courts that are not uploaded background check system. [inaudible] >> i think john, one of the things people ask during times like this where the statement i hear most often is we need to do some thing. but here, that something is pretty clear. we need to fix this broken background check system. i'll be introducing bipartisan legislation perhaps as early as tomorrow. my hope is we can expedite consideration of this, get it into law and make sure that this sort of thing never happens again. [inaudible] >> you will see the federal government is required to upload this conviction information that
10:33 am
the air force had on this individual, but apparently this is not an isolated event. not the air force comments across the department of defense. some of it has to do with the fact under the uniform code of military justice, some of the offenses don't bear the same name as it would appear in civilian courts, for example. i am told that his conviction for assault actually domestic violence and child abuse is reflected as a result which wouldn't stand alone or disqualify him. but if it had been called what it was, if there had been a marriage or a matchup of the civilian criminal background check system and the uniform code of criminal justice he would have been disqualified and perhaps there might have been a different outcome. [inaudible] >> well, that remains to be determined. obviously, we are just introducing the legislation. there needs to be accountability.
10:34 am
this is not just another thing we want them to do if they can get around to it. i think what this demonstrates is what happens when people don't do the little things that perhaps they have big consequences and certainly that happened here and i'm determined to do everything i can working with my colleagues to try to make policy that will prevent something like this from happening again. [inaudible] >> i mentioned a moment ago that what is so amazing is to see pastor pomeroy comforting other people when he and his wife lost their 14-year-old daughter. but obviously, these are people of great faith. this community pulling together. you can see the outpouring of support from not only this area or state, but literally the nation and people all over the world praying for these people and praying for their comfort,
10:35 am
their strength and also praying that they can see there is hope for the future. [inaudible] >> pardon me >> well, it wasn't so much about me. it was me trying to demonstrate my support for them and demonstrate we are there to help. i know at times like this, maybe the easiest thing to do would be to stay away, but that would be the wrong thing to do. sometimes all you need to do a show up and prayed together and put your arm around people and show them that you love them and care about them. to me that is the most important thing about being here today. leland: all right, senator jon corzine of texas they are. looks like it's going to take one more question. we will listen in to that. if he still talks down there,
10:36 am
bring back in casey stegall who is not too far away from where the memorial service was held. casey, i was struck at the fact senator cornyn did not mention the shooter's name by name. a lot of questions about it and kept referring to him as this individual. is that something that is prevalent down there asserted throughout the community. voice that sent the only only heard from senator cornyn? >> it is very interesting because at the beginning part of the week, law enforcement when they came out and held their briefings, they stopped naming the suspects by his name. there is much of a sentiment in the media and journalists covering these events that once you get past itself, and that it is important of course to keep our viewers and readers up to date on the investigation and what we are learning, but you
10:37 am
notice, i am not saying his name because when you talk to other people in the community, they come up to you and shake your hand and say thank you because instead this is in giving that person a soapbox. it isn't giving them the same that perhaps they desired, but this is about the victims in the 26 people who lost their lives as they worshiped in the mall church back there a week ago and i know there are a lot of people who would much rather have the reports in the information focused on the victims, how they are doing, how they are getting through and not speak the name of the person responsible and we will continue to honor that in our coverage. >> kc company of honor at the vic in memories with their
10:38 am
stories as well. we will do that throughout the day. we know that the funeral services will still continue as they lay their loved ones to rest. casey stegall in texas, thank you. >> very moving. still ahead, robert mueller is special russia probe. the trump administration members, who could be interviewed next. we will discuss. jeff sessions will testify in congress next week regarding his meetings with russian officials. what can we discuss? we will have a. stay with us. our investors stay confident for over 75 years. call us or your advisor. t. rowe price. invest with confidence.

elizabeth: well, president tram meets with international leaders in asia. robert mueller with some very high profile current members of the president visitation. you're attending at the latest. reporter: the special counsel now includes allegations that former national security adviser michael flynn was involved in a
10:43 am
plot to kidnap a muslim cleric in the u.s. and deliver them to turkey in exchange for millions of dollars. for more than a year now, investigators have been looking into contacting dealings with foreign government namely russia and turkey. part of its consulting and lobbying work on behalf of turkey included efforts to get the u.s. government for an expanded muslim cleric. he is a political rival to turkey's president and the turkish government blames him for the attempted coup that took place last year. federal investigators now looking in the two meetings with turkish officials allegedly to discuss a plot to kidnap and deliver them to turkey in exchange for $15 million according to "the wall street journal." one of those meetings took place before last year's election and that number and the other allegedly took place after michael flynn had been national security adviser. attorneys responding to allegations and issued a statement saying today's news
10:44 am
cycle is about allegations about general plan ranging from kidnapping to bribery that are so outrageous and prejudicial that we are making an exception to our usual rule. they are false for the turkish embassy in d.c. also refuting reports citing allegations that turkey would resort to means external to the rule of law for extradition or utterly false, ludicrous and groundless. michael flynn received half a million dollars for consulting and lobbying work on behalf of turkey according to federal records and investigators look into whether flynn violated the furniture registration act by failing to disclose his word until march here. elizabeth: gary tenney with the latest. thank you for a match. leland. leland: farmer national direct to her of intelligence claimed he had no campaign collusion with the russian government. >> we were certainly concerned
10:45 am
and i think our dashboard warning lights were clearly on, but what was going on, but to say specifically we have evidence from the smoking gun evidence of collusion, no. leland: that doesn't seem to change democrats plans to grill jeff sessions when he testifies on tuesday before the house judiciary committee. democrats insist sessions accounts of meetings with russian officials during the 2015 campaign are inconsistent with what we've learned over the past couple weeks. for a preview what to expect in the doj, great friend of the show, robert driscoll. great to see you. there's two issues. the sessions have a legal problem and/or a political problem? >> i don't think he has a legal problem. from his testimony before congress before come he testified he didn't have any contact with rations regarding the election and i think he testified he was unaware the campaign did. all of this path of dollars --
10:46 am
papadopoulos contact apparently was one meeting of the upcoming young guy at the end of the tables as i can arrange a meeting with russia and from what we've heard, attorney general sessions had no. leland: the adviser to the campaign says no. what is the standard for disclosure? are you expected to remember every meeting you had during the campaign when you have hundreds of meetings? i cannot remember who i saw yesterday, ran into at the bar in the bar and what did you talk about. i do remember. >> in this instance it's beyond memory. it is a truthful statement that if someone suggests i can set up in meaning and you say no when you're asked to do campaign have any meaning to the russians, the answer is no. leland: i told them not to. >> he didn't volunteer someone
10:47 am
suggested that option. leland: is their responsibility to? this is the letter the democrats sent to attorney general sessions ahead of the testimony. the attacks appear to contradict your sworn testimony of several occasions. when you appear before a committee we intend to ask you about inconsistencies, we provide you with notice in advance because we expect you to respond and shockingly they provide the media with that letter as well. are the democrats trying to get to guilt by association if there is smoke, a.k.a. the word russia there must be guilts a.k.a. you colluded. >> those were the washington thing from the democratic perspective, if they can get the word russia, e-mail sent sessions in the same sentence, they don't really care what the verbs are in there. you know what i mean? >> give you a second to think about that. it makes a lot of sense. >> that is what happens.
10:48 am
