3:05 pm
about this. it is a tough situation for republicans on capitol hill because on the one hand, roy moore is a republican. if he loses, they will lose a seat. they'll have a dtc majority and then they will be.51 seats. but it will make it harder than it has already been to pass the agenda. >> let's get doctor some numbers. candidate donald trump as you know, won alabama by 28 states in 2016. let's look at a new fox news poll of alabama voters. there now split in the presidents job performance. 52 percent approve, versus 47 percent that disapprove. look at the ratings for senate majority leader, mitch mcconnell. far more negative, 27 percent approval and 57 percent disapprove of senator mitch mcconnell get what's more, republicans are three times as likely to approve of the present with 91 percent versus senator mitch mcconnell at 29

however, this is a special election. it can be all about the turnout. so if democrats turnout in the masses and democrats say i don't know what to do, and turned off by roy moore and i do not want to book a democrat, i guess i will stay home. then i guess jones will win. it is really a coin toss at this point. again, he is a little time on his side, roy moore, to see if he can rebuild support. or it can work against him because maybe roy moore will have more organizations surface. anything can happen in the coming days.if he does win he faces another hurdle. he comes to washington where they are talking expelling him. a very rare thing that has not happened since 1862. that was over people joining the confederacy. again, another complicated layer. it is something that happened late last week were no accusations against al franken and a very incriminating photo that surface.and allegations of other lawmakers on capitol

that sense. but he is in a tough position also. he endorsed luther strange was appointed by the governor. so donald trump is in a tough position. i don't think you'll see him endorse moore at this moment. it is best politically just a quiet but it is tough because of roy moore loses big at the seat but if he wins this can upset things. they will be accused of you know, what are they going to do with the other democrats walking around that have been accused of misconduct? it is really kind of a mess right now for republicans politically and so, again, it is going to be up to the voters! >> a political pickle. we will leave it there susan. thank you very much. >> a political pickle for democrats fearless look right now live in little rock arkansas for using president clinton and mrs. clinton. right now there in the convention center. this is part of a huge party at

they will ask something of us. i am quite certain of that. it will not just be a case where china goes and visits kim jong-un and basically says to him, take this step or else. i dealt serious events what they will do. >> meanwhile, we know kim jong-un talks a lot of noise. it is his bluff more than his bite? i mean, would ever make the first strike? >> obviously would be suicidal for him to launch a nuclear strike. do i think that it is impossible? no. because even if it is not planned, you can end up with a conflict that takes place, not because either side is thinking about it or is desiring it or seeking it. you can have a conflict through inadvertence, you can have one through miscalculation. he also may feel once he has a nuclear armed icbm, he puts himself in a different position towards us. maybe he thinks we have to talk to him differently. maybe he also thinks that he is

freer to threaten the self because we, in a sense, walked away about whether or not he can launch icbms that can destroy american cities. so even if there isn't a plan, even if there isn't an instinct to launch a first strike, there are a lot of factors that could end up producing it which was one of the reasons why we really have a strong interest in ensuring that north korea doesn't acquire the ability to launch icbms that are nuclear armed at the united states. he also should understand he is playing with fire as well. this is where the chinese presumably could play the role of being a bridge. as i said, whenever someone plays that mediating role, is not that they insist and impose on one side. whenever they ask of the north koreans or whatever pressure they put on them, they will undoubtedly come back to us and seek something as well. >> before we go, you just laid out a lot of variables.
3:49 pm
is there something that the trump administration defense department can do? or is there another diplomatic option that has not been presented thus far? >> i think that the critical diplomatic option that is not out there, but probably at some point, if diplomacy is to materialize and produce anything, at some point you have an interim step. a step that basically freezes the situation. which for us is important because it stops north korea from being able to have an icbm armed with a nuclear weapon. that will not be the end of the story. but it would be the first step to try and break the cycle and the path that we are on. >> ambassador, dennis ross, thank you much for your analysis and explanation. >> my pleasure. >> the latest battle. hundreds of protesters facing up against counter protesters.
