visited a station in florida to deliver lunch to the men and women on duty for the holiday. he singled out the coast guard and thanked them for their hard work and service responding to the number of hurricanes that have slammed the u.s. this year. earlier in the day, in his thanksgiving address, the president also touted the growth of the u.s. economy. >> our country is doing very well. our stock market has hit a new all-time high. unemployment is at a 17-year low. we've created $5.5 trillion worth of values. we are doing something very special. people are feeling it. >> and while tax reform is the most pressing legislative issue before the president, he also spent some time yesterday looking ahead to the next big goal tweeting obamacare premiums are going up, up beings just as i have been predicting for two years. obamacare is owned by the democrats it a disaster. but do not worry, even though the dems want to obstruct we will repeal and

opened fire traffic stop outside of dallas and ardmore than 100 miles away. trooper day monday allen dying at the scene. he was al husband and father of three. this is the second death for that department just this month. black is facing a capital murder charge which could carry the death penalty there in texas. pakistan releasing a terrorist overnight who was wanted here in the u.s. aseed has been designated terrorist by the doj with a bounty on his head. his release comes after a three judge panel dismissed the government's plea to continue with his house arrest in pakistan. he is believed to have founded the militant group who founded the 2008 mumbai terrorist attack which killed nearly 170 people. all right. also overnight, oscar pistorius in his prison sentence is now more than doubled. south africa supreme court of appeals increasing jail

term to 13 years and five months. upholding an appeal by prosecutors who challenged that his original six year sentence for that killing was too lien yengt. the former olympian and double amputee a hero of that nation, was convicted in the shooting of his girl friend reva steencamp back in 201. heroes lost at sea. the navy suspending the search for three missing sailors after their plane crashed off the coast of japan in the philippine sea. kitty logan is live in london with a look at your international headlines. that story and more this morning. hey, katie. >> good morning, rob. sings that crash happened two days ago u.s. and japanese naval ships have been searching for survivors. traveling to the uss ronald reagan when it crashed around 500 nautical miles east of japan. 11 crew members were rescued. they are said to be in good health. no sign of three missing

sailors. three helicopter squadrons searching the water since the accident. the navy says that crash will be investigated. also lost at sea an argentine submarine and relevant tistlesz of those missing received the bad news today from the argentinian navy that there was apparently an explosion around the time and around that location where the subwent missing. contact was lost with that vessel on november 15th. a multinational search with the help of two u.s. aircraft has found no sign of it. 44 crew members were on board and the search for that submarine does continue, rob. rob: okay. kitty, thank you so much. all right. thanksgiving, serving up a full day of football. only one player kneeling for the national anthem. that was new york giants defensive end olivier vernon. you can see it happen right there. his team though the giants getting smashed by the washington redskins 20 to 10 on thanksgiving day. redskins quarterback kirk cousins feeding his

branch. it actually popped that big balloon. thankfully hobby was hurt as it came down. those things are huge as we all know. ready, set, spin. shoppers lining up early for black friday deals. the rush is on to get in there first and get some of that cheap stuff. some braving the cold to get their hands on pretty incredible holiday bargains as there are every year. todd piro joins us outside of target in new jersey. nice neighborhood there. todd, do you have anything on your list? are you going to be able to jump in there and get anything? >> rob, i'm good this year. everything in the piro household right now is disingsd to buy for little baby zoey. baby zoey at this point does not need a big screen tv. but for the folks that are ready for a big screen tv or who need other tech or clothes or things like that, today is the day, obviously it's black friday and stores are opening early all across the nation, including the one behind me here in north bergen like you said. the target. it's going to open up at

6:00 a.m. in about two hours from now. now, bring and mortar stores, that is the key this year, because they have been under pressure, of course, from the web. they are doing more this year to drive shoppers foot traffic into their stores. for example, many, of course, open on thanksgiving day. target here and across the nation open at 6:00 p.m. yesterday closed at midnight. and, of course, like i said, they will reopen at around 6:00 a.m. today. another thing the stores are doing and this is pretty tricky. offering door bust errors that are only in the stores. the reason they are doing that they want to drive you in the store, forcing you to get off your computer, come in here and maybe while you are here getting one of those door busters, also picking up a lot of other stems and increasing their revenue and profits. let's take a look at thanksgiving day stats. thanksgiving day shoppers expected to grow this year by 18%. the top three items as you might imagine people are shopping for, clothing, tech, and toys.

the quality of tv's for black friday aren't that great thrsmght are a couple standouts but this is a good one. rob: i didn't know they were that cheap. >> video gamers always do really well on black friday. past year been bundle deals. now we are seeing stripped down to the consoles. x box 1 x at the microsoft store is available for $189. you also get a free game that comes with it and one month trial to their game pass. rob: you said 189 for x box 1. >> and the game on top of it, depending on which game you choose actually starts to add up as well. rob: we have the playstation for the other end. >> the others for the playstation hottest deal on this was at kohl's. they sold out in minutes. rob: really? >> unless they restock this morning. check with local store. online sold out in minutes. it is available at gam stocks we are told. they were open last night as well. give a call to your store before you head out.

rob: turkey is almost gone. down to leftovers now. time to put up the christmas lights and decorations unless you have already done. so the earlier the better on that. according to a new study that says decorating earlier actually makes you happier. holiday blues are a real thing. how can you beat it. if it's a problem for you. here now with his tips is board certified psychiatrist doctor. some of this is real for people. i have never herd of it happening during the holidays as much as after

the holidays. does it happen right now and after the holidays. >> yeah, absolutely. according to the nih. national institutes of health, there is unfortunately an increase in depression, anxiety and even suicides around the holidays. and the reasonable for that, we think, is because there are so many expectations around the holidays for people. there is a lot of nostalgia and focus on loss and grief. there is sort of an idealistic idea that we have about families being perfect around the holidays. and when ours aren't so perfect, we tend to get a little down. so, yes, it's an absolutely true phenomenon. rob: that is interesting. let's talk about some of your tips from keeping this from happening for people that have a problem here. >> yeah. you gout it listen, so the holidays are a time of overindulgence. two of those things are alcohol. that's number one. and the other one is too much food. right? now, studies do show that an increase in alcohol intake over the holidays can lead to depression, anxiety and mood disorder. if you are going to have a

drink or two limit to that, drinks. all the ceangsds and cakes and fun stuff we have at the holidays, average person increases in weight by about 8 pounds between november and january. so, say no to those extra cookies and avoid some of that extra food. rob: 8 pounds. that's nothing to scoff at. that's actually a pretty dramatic weight gain. i didn't know it was that much on average. so you've got -- don't eat too much. don't drink too much. very good tips for trying to keep a better outlook on things. sleep as well? >> sleep, listen, we overextend ourselves during the holidays. people tend to get extremely stressed out. i want people to remember take care of yourself. get some good rest. don't forget to exercise and stay active. the other thing, you know an important thing i know the holidays are all about giving, but learn to say no. it's okay to pass on some social events. not the worst time in the world to take some time for yourself. and really take care of yourself. that's where the sleep and the exercise, and all that

kind of comes into play to avoid any emotional breakdown. rob: yeah, absolutely. and i guess there are some people that the holidays might bring up something sad from the past. you were saying get support when somebody might be mourning somebody else. that can be a tricky time of year when you have lost somebody this time of year. >> holidays are nostalgic. they bring back memories good and bad. unfortunately people remember grief and loss around these times and they can feel extra lonely and upset. here's the thing. if you do feel that way there are so many psychotherapists and counselors. get is your system some help. don't isolate yourself. spengsd time with friends and family. if you don't have friends and family to stay with volunteer there are so many opportunities around the holidays to volunteer. i guarantee not only with will it make you feel good about yourself and raise your mood but help others in amazing way. rob: thinking about it but doing it actually does work. what about the christmas lights and decorations, you

think the earlier the better? >> live this study. i think it's great. the reason being, the people that like to decorate early tend to be more involved in remembering their childhood positive memories of the holidays. so they tend to be happier because they are remembering that magical time when they were a kid. rob: thank you so much for coming on this morning. very good advice this time of year. >> thanks. rob: 27 mention after the hour. he was a cult leader and mass murderers. somebody thinks charles manson deserves a funeral. we will talk about that what to do in this situation. president trump set to meet with the top leaders in congress to hammer out a deal on tax reform. what does he need to do to get chuck and nancy his two best buddies on board? we will debate that coming up next. ♪ ♪ ♪

that they need to pass this bill. but, can they get it done? that is the million-dollar question. here now to debate it managing editor olympic media katie frakes and liberal analyst cathy areu. cathy, i'm going to start with you on this. this needs to happen for this presidency and this congress right now and for republicans in 2018, frankly. do you think it happens? >> it has to happen or one of the republicans said it's the end of the g.o.p. it will show that they're ineffective, insincere and they just can't govern if they can't pass this tax reform. and so far we have seen president trump giving pep talks and photo ops but we haven't seen anything come

out of it. if the g.o.p. can't pull this off then it might be the end of the party. rob: it can be tricky. they haven't scheduled the vote yet. trying to get everything perfected i would imagine. there is no question that this thing gets through. there is a couple things that they can still here to negotiate on. they have talked about maybe getting rid of the individual mandate, messing with obamacare. they could get rid of that and probably get something like get mccain on get susan collins on board with that they need to work on a couple of things here what could they negotiate with to make sure this gets through. >> they have to be mindful of republicans that are in blue states who already have to deal with heavy taxes that can't afford to alienate their bases with anything in this tax reform plan that could make it worse for them. i would agree with cathy that the g.o.p. has to get this done. you can't control every part of the government. and then get nothing major overhauled in your first year. it's going to look absolutely terrible. i don't think that it's going to be the end of the g.o.p. i think that's a littl too far.

signal to the base you will give them power that they have asked for for years and years and years. they won't get anything through. it doesn't look good at all. >> they can't govern. they can't govern. rob: cathy, over to you, the state and local deduction, do you think that has to go? i mean they have to keep that in place, keep that reduction i deduction in place that's where the noise middle class increase on the backs of them to fund the corporate tax rate decrease is coming from. >> yeah. i know. we keep hearing that it's going to be better for the middle class. so many are saying it's just going to help the corporations and the you were class and the rich. so, we're -- to get democrats on board, which they need democrats on board to make this happen, they don't have much willing room. they need them on board. so they really need to make this something effective for the middle class. can't just be for the rich. rob: i want to pull up a graphic here that shows the

holdouts in the senate. people undecided we are not sure about. they will need at least four, maybe five of these people to get on board, ron jongsz, bob corker, john mccain, jeff flake, susan collins and rand paul who has been trouble in a lot of these things the president has tried to do. over to you, katie, there is a point to be made here though when you talk about bringing jobs back to this country. everybody talks about corporate tax, taking that from 35 down to 20% as being some kind of evil plan to make them rich, richer. we have to get jobs back in this country. who is going to bring a company back here n. here at 35% tax rate when everybody else is taxing at 20. >> no one wants to. that's why you see corporations and companies going overseas because there are simply more enticing places to do business. america has to step back and look and say you can't tax people at 35%. they are going to go somewhere else. they're businesses. they have incentives and bottom lines. we need to get that lowered. it's not just for wealthy

americans. you need to get jobs and companies back in america. that's something everyone should be able to agree with that should not be controversial. rob: i understand that. cathy, your response to that. >> sounds like trickle down economics that has never worked. companies don't need more money they will just keep it to themselves. it's not going to trickle down or go to the worker. i don't think giving tax cuts to. >> then they won't come back. rob: john mccain -- i'm sorry, senator sanders said the same thing. you can't argue that companies have fled for lower taxed countries. >> many economists don't believe it's taxes. rob: we saw both sides this morning. we will see how this goes. ladies, thanks for coming this on in this black fry day. >> thanks. rob: disturbing new details after the worst mass shooting in u.s. history. clark county sheriff claim

claiming that the las vegas gunman fired off 1100 rounds that killed 58 people and injured 500 more. he said an additional 4,000 unused rounds were found in that sweet on the 32nd floor of the mandalay bay hotel. imagine if all of those were fired. more information is expected in the coming weeks. so far there have been multiple conflicting time lines about the events here and we haven't gotten a lot of answers about that las vegas massacre. go fund me shutting down a fundraiser for notorious mass murderer charles manson. set up by a friends of man son's grandson earning nearly $1,000 for funeral costs. telling tmz they refunded everyone who donated. i can't imagine who would. the same friend now setting up a new fundraising page on paypal. manson died earlier this week at the age of 83 from natural causes. sorry chris christie, a new law may prevent new jersey governors from shutting down the beaches. the state beaches in jersey.

the proposal would allow state parks and correct creation areas to remain open to the public for up to seven days following a government shutdown. christie infamous for his fourth of july stunt that went viral after he was caught on a state run beach during a budget standoff. a beach that was closed to everybody else. that bill is now waiting for senate approval. rand paul and his wife posting a thanksgiving video giving an update on the senator's recovery. >> thanks for your concern, your prayers and thoughts. awfuall your get-well cards. it's been a couple weeks but i'm starting to get better. rob: suffered six broken rings when long time neighbor boucher allegedly attacked him from behind in kentucky yard as he was mowing the lawn. this after his wife kelly wrote op-ed denying allegations that paul and boucher had an ongoing landscaping feud. we're still trying to figure out what this is all about.

boucher is charged with a misdemeanor assault. all right, tv's favorite couple might be making a come back. ♪ la la la la la. >> having chip is like having a whole set of triplets. do you need a big shower. rob: i think we overstated that one of tv's favorite couple. chip and joanna gains are working to create a new show. this after announcing last month that fifth season of fixer upper. claims they ended to show after other business ventures. we will talk some weather now. really chilly outside here on the east coast for black friday. a lot of the people are standing outside waiting in line now, adam. what's the temperature out there? >> bundle up if you you are on the east coast. temperatures are in some places down to the teens and 20 range. as far as moisture goes, the only thought we are paying attention to early this morning, mostly clear across the country.

thanksgiving means to indigenous people. now, to them, it's a day of remembrance and mourning. take a listen. >> angry flipping over a thanksgiving table. some people on social media saw this as an anti-american political statement, including ginger who said liberals spoil everything. tyler tweets whoever uploaded this needs to be replaced immediately. another twitter user talks about how they wasted the food by dumping it on the ground when they flipped over the table. so, too different viewpoint once a historic event and these girls clearly are very proud of their culture. rob: if you are trying to feed the homeless or hungry this type of the year.

raising the prices online. other tricks they have too, right? >> they have got to get these people off of the internet into the stores to shop. they are coming up with creative ways. doing things to make their stores more attractive. offering experiences. so, you can take a selfie with santa. some of them have like temporary ice skating rinks. wal-mart is actually throwing holiday parties. target offering cookies and toy demonstrations. so, just little things that they are doing to make it more of an experience in the store that you would not get online. rob: i know. it has been an assault on bring and mortar store these last 15 years. thank you. >> thanks, rob. rob: apparently if you have been referring to god as a man you are wrong. the church dropping lord to be more inexclusive. we will talk about that. the christmas presents are all wrapped. and you've got scraps of wrapping paper all over the floor? what do you do? throw them in the fireplace? no. you don't want to do that. dr. saphier here with the

important safety tips you need to know to avoid a possible christmas catastrophe. the last thing anybody needs. dr. nicole saphier is here with the dos and don'ts of decorating. thank you so much for coming in this morning and. >> happy black friday. rob: something a lot of people do today is they go get the tree, throw it up and some mistakes can be made. >> that is very true. rob: what do you have for us today? what do we need to watch out for. >> emergency rooms are flooded with people this time of year from catastrophe from holiday decorating. about 15,000 people a year make it to the er's. biggest thing is people falling off ladders. a third being injured not being on ladders. rob: 15,000 people a year get hurt putting up holiday decorations? >> it's a dangerous festivity. rob: these why we are talking about that. >> ladders being the number one culprit. macy obvious. what else? you have christmas trees. you have to be careful. when you go and get a christmas tree make sure it's fresh. make sure it's green and you can't get the needles off.

and don't put it near a fire source. that's not just necessarily a fireplace. what about your air events? what about your space heaters? keep them away. or even better get a flame resistant fake tree. rob: you got to do the real tree. >> that is by far the safest. rob: fresh and green not as likely to light up. >> keep watering it. that's going to make it as safe as possible. don't put candles next to trees. you have a about 6,000 fires a year are because people put candles near the christmas tree. rob: those are the two things that go together arranged the holidays. what's your next tip. >> wrapping paper. do not put it in the fireplace. for some people they think it's fun. think of fireworks, because can you see greens and blues because of the chemicals and you are releasing chemicals in the air. the embers from the wrapping paper can go up the che chimney and can go on the roof. rob: chemicals in the wrapping paper not good for you to breathe. >> absolutely not. rob: putting the lights up?

>> you would think people would understand you shouldn't put a nail through a light and expose the wires. but for some people that happens because you need that perfect decoration and people are using nails and tacks and not a good idea. you don't want to disrupt the wires. check your wires before you put them up. you know, replace any of the burnt out bulbs. make sure there are no exposed wires. don't use outdoor lights indoors and vice versa. they are not exchangeable. outdoors on the outside and indoor on the indoors. try led much safer and last longer. they at a little more expensive and safer and last. longer. rob: last tip? time for one more. >> have fun and just be careful. have fun. you have that -- want to have fun. don't take things too seriously. never do holiday decorating alone. do it in the buddy system and keep kids away from some of the stuff. rob: be careful on the ladders. don't be one of the 15,000 people who end up in the er putting up the holiday decorations. thanks so much, dock.
