♪ move on ♪ you know there ain't no time to wait ♪ jillian: good friday morning. a live look outside. avenue of the americas is a lot quieter right now than it was about a couple hours ago yesterday that's for sure. rob: certainly was. jillian: happy friday thanks for watching "fox & friends first" on this black friday i'm jillian mealy. steve: i'm rob schmitt, thank you for starting your day with us. as americans wake up from thanksgiving holiday probably a hangover. president trump remains focused on tax reform. >> garrett tenney joins us live from washington, d.c. with more on the president's promise to get it passed. good morning. >> rob and jillian, good morning to you. tax reform is why the white house is insisting the president's trip down to mar-a-lago for thanksgiving is not a vacation. we are told he has a full schedule of meetings and

phone calls over the next couple days to do everything he can to get tax reform over the hump. he did take a bit of break though yesterday. and along with the first lady, visited a coast guard station in rivera, florida. the first couple delivered lunch to the men and women on duty for the holiday and thank them for their hard work responding to all of the devastating hurricanes that hit the u.s. this year. and during his visit, president trump also touted the growth of the economy since he took office. and said a bigger, stronger economy will help keep the nation safe. >> we want to have a strong country. we want to have a country where i can buy new coast guard cutters and not have to worry about it. all right. and that's what we're doing. we're building up wealth so we can take care of our protection. >> last night the president was also thinking about what he hopes to have on his list of things to be thankful for next year. namely healthcare reform. tweeting obamacare premiums are going um, up, up, jewels as i have been predicting for two years. obamacare is owned by the democrats.

and it a disaster. but do not worry, even though the dems want to obstruct, we will repeal and replace right after tax cut. he is set to meet with big tour leaders of congress, paul ryan, chuck schumer, mitch mcconnell and nancy pelosi. discuss obamacare as well as passing a bill to keep the government funded and avoid a shutdown by december 8th. rob and jillian? jillian: we will see. garrett tenney, thanks for keeping us updated this morning. >> you got it. jillian: it is a race to the finish on tax reform as lawmakers head back to capitol hill with major issues to tackle before the end of the year. rob: todd wilhelm says the outcome could make or break the future of g.o.p. control in washington. >> there is certainly a significant amount of momentum in the senate. senator murkowski has expressed some reluctance in the past, but she seems to be on board for an

individual mandate repeal vote. although there may be some guarantees in terms of shoring up the obamacare subsidies that need to be made in order to cure that. but, there just is a ton of political momentum. you talk to members on the republican side in congress, they tend to think that the politics of this are driving it and even though a lot of policy details still have to be hard out, it is seen as a political necessity for republicans to pass something that shows that they can govern. ♪ rob: all right. a fox news alert here. a startling new report reveals north korea's top nuclear targets and they are right here in the united states no surprise. european council on foreign relations says manhattan and the white house are at the top of north korea's list for an attack. u.s. military bases and the pentagon also listed in that report. north korea may believe striking first would be advantageous to itself. tensions pretty high right now after the u.s. listed

them as a state sponsor of terror. jillian: iranian navy seconding warships into the backyard. a fleet will soon deploy to the gulf of mexico as part of an effort to globalize the nation's military. back in july, a u.s. navy vessel fired warning shots at fast-approaching iranian boat in the persian gulf. one of at least a dozen encounters between the two militaries this year. heroes lost at sea. the navy suspending the search for three missing sailors after their plane crashed off the coast of japan. the crew was on their way to the uss ronald reagan when it went down. 8 sailors were safely rescued. navy officials are investigating a possible dual engine fire and looking at how much fuel and oil the plane had. rob: once a hero of south africa oscar pistorius prison sentence more than doubled overnight. south africa court of appeals increasing his jail

term to 13 years and five months. upholding an appeal by prosecutors who challenge that his initial six year sentence was too lenient. the former olympian and double amputee was convicted in the shooting of hits girlfriend reva steenkamp in 2013. man accused of cold good has been captured. black opened fire during a traffic stop outside of dallas yesterday and later ardmore than 100 miles away. trooper day monday allen, we are sorry to say, died right there at the scene. he was husband and father of three people killed on thanksgiving day. he had been with the force since 2002. this is the second death for that department just this month. black is now facing a capital murder charge which, in texas, could carry the deatthedeath penalty. jillian: al franken apologizing once again for sexual misconducted saying he, quote, crossed line but still won't step down. instead the minnesota senator vowing to regain the voters' trust this combings

after two more women came forward accusing franken of inappropriate touching. the democrat calls himself, quote, a warm person who likes to quote, hug people. rob: michael flynn now cutting ties with president trump's legal team. the move signaling that the former national security advisor may be preparing to plead guilty in order to strike a deal. flynn and his son are accused of participating in a lot to kidnap a turkish opposition leader in the united states and deliver him to turkey in exchange for $15 million in cash. those are serious charges. all of this part of robert mueller's ever expanding russia probe. jillian: four people interrupting the macy's thanksgiving day parade by taking a seat right in the middle of the street. >> undocumented, unafraid. >> anti-trump removed off the parade route. no one was charged.

this as a huge gust of wind slams the candy cane balloon into a branch causing it to pop. thankfully nobody was hurt as it came down. that's frightening they are huge. rob: they are huge. when the wind hits them, it's not pretty. most people put out a pretty i didn't mean preive spread for thanksgiving dinner. at least we tried to. nothing compared to what it takes to feed our troops. jillian: service members celebrating thanksgiving with 98,000 pounds of turkey the pentagon also sending 10,000 pounds of stuffing and more than 900 gallons of eggnog all over the globe. agencies began preparing for the meal all the way back in march. boy did, they deserve it though. i will tell you that all right. black friday mayhem, thousands of stores across the nation, opening their doors as shoppers are expected to spend nearly $20 billion this weekend. rob: that will be a nice bump in the economy. jeff flock joins us now from michigan avenue in chicago where people are braving the cold and it gets cold in chicago to get their hands on the best deals.

>> cool and breezy rob and jillian in chicago. michigan avenue is called the magnificent mile well healed shoppers. they don't need a bargain. plans to be a big day later in the day. we do have pictures around the country of folks that have been braving it this morning. and it's expected to be a pretty big black friday. $115 million is expected to be spent on black friday. 115 million people. is that right? what's my number there. 115 million people, right? that's 69% of all shoppers. so maybe black friday not losing its mojo. here on the magnificent mile i would report to you last two years of black friday have there have been protesters out here. black lives matter folks protesting against mistreatment by police.

he or lord. instead god will be referred to as mother and father in some prayers. the criticism drawing criticism from several organizations including the royal swedish academy. jillian, over to you. jillian: black friday now in full swing. but most shoppers this year are actually going online. new survey found that 59% of americans shopping today are finding their deals online. that marks the first year this is the most popular option. so, what are the perks of shopping online aside from doing it in your pajamas? joining us to weigh in is the owner of -- >> thanks for having me. jillian: this is a trend going on for the last couple years, right? >> it is. definitely. we will probably see more of that which is very interesting because obviously look at the market every day. amazon stock made brand new all-time highs wednesday right before thanksgiving. hit 1160 bucks a share. you know, with amazon is online.

jillian: i feel like amazon is going to take over the world. they have different deals every hour on black friday. how do other retailers compete with a giant like that. >> still sell more if you can get the people in the door. the goal obviously is to get people. in they have the door buster. trying to get people in the door. a lot of people like we were talking about earlier. they just don't want to fight the traffic and crowds. freezing cold outside. people don't want to do it. jillian: freezing cold, traffic and the crowds. also the stress, your time. i feel like nowadays people don't want to give up their time to do that when you can just do it on your phone or computer. >> that's right. there is something missing when you are shopping online. like there is something fun when you are out looking. jillian: i don't know, sometimes that's not fun. >> well, you know, years and years ago, that's what we used to do. you go out. did you go to lunch. shop have a glass of wine and go to dinner. now if you are online you lose that socialization. one thing i would tell people if you are going to shop online today or even if you are going to venture out into the cold, i would

follow all your favorite stores on social media. jillian: good point. >> that's where you will get the sales, the tips. if you are doing like special door busters it's going to be on social media. jillian: how does free shipping play into this. 29% of stores actually aren't offering free shipping. i find that really hard to believe. >> that's again go back to the amazon. this is one of the reasons why amazon is so successful. same day delivery. free shipping. next day delivery, same day delivery. at love retailers have got to step it up if they want to compete online and that's what also starts to change. a lot of stocks, macy's, kohl's, bed, bath, and beyond these stocks are on down strengthened. amazon strong stock. wal-mart has really been good with this, too. jillian: they changed their shopping policy. >> exactly. jillian: wal-mart, amazon. we know that other stores offering free shipping for the holidays target best buy. >> target until the end of the year. jillian: del, h.p., wal-mart

it a new twist. jillian: because you get bored. >> exactly. i went with a unique asian twist to this. i used some chili oil on this. i sauteed all my ingreed cents in this chilly oil. make in the morning. use your stuffing as the potato for the hash. and then create a hash top it with egg. you are good to go. rob: that actually looks really good. >> with your country gravy have you some left over. if you don't want the spice in there put the capitol hilchili oil.>> we have stuffinl as pork. this is the pork here. i will get to you top that vegetables. rob: that's pork? >> it's actually smithfield marinaded fresh pork. if you don't have leftover

does it have to stay in place. >> folks are talking about this in the contest of blue states and red states when in fact what people should be talking about is purple congressional districts. the fact of the matter is republicans control the house. republicans control the senate in large part because of last election you saw massive in suburban districts. when we talk about whether it's sort of building off of rewarding red states or penalizing blue states, at the end of the day, if you can't pass -- if you pass a

bill that's going to take away that deductibility from these swing congressional districts, you are going to put your house majority in significant trouble. and i think at the end of the day, if you want to see a bill pass, you will have to reconcile that. >reconcile. rob: it's designed to be a tax cut and not going to be for a lot of people. look at the six senate g.o.p. holdouts. holding out for an array of reeives. starting from the top left, ron johnson and bob corker. jeff flake. john mccain. susan collins and rand paul. more than they can afford to use in the senate. it's pretty tight right now. ed, over to you, the design of this thing to bring business back to the country sounds great to drop the corporate rate to 20%. how do you do that without giving them a big tax hike to the middle class if you are going to try to keep this thing deficit neutral? >> i mean, this is the great conundrum, rob. republicans have once again shown they were playing football and got the ball on the 20-yard line and defense still throw inel ter

accepts. i don't think you can remove that deduction completely. i think they have to have a clause in there where they sun set it and say two years. we will kick in the deduction to allow the state to be able to respond not only with their budget but also the people who reside in those states. ron johnson is really throwing a fit because they have taken the 25% pass through small business tank that the house has and raised it to 30. i think that's unacceptable and ron johnson thinks so as well. bob consideringebob corker makil business temporary is unacceptable. they have to deal with the salt issue. they have got to put that small business tax back to 25%. they have got to make it permanent. they have got to make the personal taxes permanent. and they have got to move that cornt tax up to now and not a year from now, rob. there are a lot of problems. for guys like me to support it close the carried interest loophole and stop messing with real estate depreciation and leave it at

3 th39 years. it's costing hundreds of billions of dollars in treasury. unacceptable. >> i would add to that as well. the only permanent thing in this tax cut is the drop of the corporate rate. how do you rationalize to working class voter who went to dance for donald trump and republican congress and tell them that actually your taxes are going to go up, 50% of your taxes are going to go up in 10 years. only taxes that stay in place are for the swamp. rob: he is trying to say that big picture we're going to have more jobs and in the long run it's going to be better because all these companies according to their plan are going to flood back into the country. >> unless of course have you gary cohn asked going to invest with corporate tax decreases and hardly a hand went up in the audience. i think that's a lot of smoke and mirrors. you better get down to the fact that there will be no permanent cuts for the middle class, working class in this country. rob: i agree, that is the huge problem. then you also have the

individual mandate thing they were trying to tie. in the president had a tweet last night or this morning that said he is probably flexible on allowing the mandate to continue and not removing that. but i just can't -- i mean, i have looked at this thing from a thousand different ways. i cannot find a feasible way you are going to satisfy all of these people. what do you say? >> i would argue, rob, unless people see next year a net noticeable difference in their paychecks. republicans are going to put themselves in an awful position. i have explained to people. republicans have put themselves in a no win situation right now at this moment. they cannot pass this senate bill as it now stands. there are so many things wrong with it at the same time, if they don't get some sort of tax reform done before 2018, people will start to question why are republicans in the majority in congress if they can't get anything done? and so, i would go back to saying also, too. you can't have all these taxes that i think benefit a certain small class of real estate developers and private equity hedge fund

guys and then stick the middle and you were middle class with the bill. it will be devastating to the republicans. rob: i completely agree. i think both portions of this senate and house have big problems. i don't know how they are going to fix them. we are optimistic as the administration needs to get something done to the american people. guys, thanks for coming on this morning. we appreciate it. jillian over to you. >> thanks, rob. jillian: ready, set, spend. shoppers lining up early for black friday deals and now the rush is on. some people braving the cold, hoping to strike a holiday bargain, that includes our own todd piro who joins us live outside of target in north bergen, new jersey. what did you get? fess up. >> we have surprises for you. actually here inside the target, this really is the calm before the storm. there are the doors right there. they will be open in less than half an hour. the carts at the ready come over here, you can see these are the aisles, the halls of target if you will. it's going to be like running of the bulls in pamp

pamplona. can you see the folks in the back getting the store ready for what is sure to be a very big shopping day. let's go into the numbers and the facts here. this is a very high pressure year for traditional retail in light the online shopping. bring and mortar stores are doing more this year to draw shopper foot traffic into their stores. for example many open on thanksgiving day. target here and many across the nation opened at 6:00 p.m. and closed at midnight. door bust errors that are only in stores. tv's are the biggest example of that. as you might imagine, that is causing a frenzy in some storms. the mind set being we don't put them online. we put them in the stores only so people are forced to come in and buy other things in the stores as well. some more stats here, thanksgiving day shoppers expected to grow this year by 18%. still waiting on yesterday's numbers.

top three items people are shopping for, clothing, tech, and toys no. real surprise there. 6% of americans are expected to shop during thanksgiving weekend. that includes black friday, small business saturday, museum store sunday. i know that's jillian's favorite and of course cyber monday. target says us their biggest seller from yesterday includes ipads and watches from apple. gaming systems including x box 1. madden nfl video games and, guys, bark here live, 34-piece rubber mad rubber maid. this only $7. i'm not getting this for you. no, i got you other gifts. jillian, ladies first. we start with this. deck yourself before you wreck yourself. and, rob, not to be outdone, when we are talking man stuff there in the makeup room when we are getting ready. you know you love the hatch

it's hatchimals. rob: i don't know what that is. that sweater is great. can you wear it on monday. jillian: adam, aim going to need that sweater? >> you need several sweaters. jillian: several? >> cold here across the eastern half of the country. for the last several days rounds and rounds of rain that continues again here this morning. running you in to earlier here into the week. we are going to be seeing another 2 to 3 inches. the ground may be saturated. there may be standing water on roadways. give yourself extra time as you head out the door. temperaturewise very warm western half of the country. still fairly mild early this morning. 58 degrees in denver. that's pretty were with a. eastern side of the country, that's where it's cold. feels like 30 degrees in new york. it 0 in pittsburgh. 23 in detroit.

catastrophes like this. ♪ jillian: maybe the best movie ever. dr. nicole saphier is here with the dos and don'ts of decorating. >> thanks for having me. jillian: what's the most important thing? i feel this time of year kids are so exciting to get this done. >> kids and rob, apparently. just like in the cult classic movie falling off of ladders putting up christmas lights the most common cause of people going to the er. 15,000 people going to the emergency room during the holiday season because of injuries. 33% are from falling off of ladders. be on a ladder, buddy system, don't drink and decorate. jillian: good call. >> no kids running around the ladder. jillian: if you fall and the ladder falls than the kid underneath you gets hurt. what about putting the tree near the firearms?

not the -- fireplace. >> fire with the tree. lovely great experience. but air events. from heaters and what about the space heaters on the ground and candles near the christmas tree? you need to keep all forms of heat away from your tree. and in addition, you want to make sure your tree is moist. so if it's browning or if the pine needles are coming off, that means it needs some water or already dying. make sure you check your tree before you bring it home. make sure it is very moist. jillian: i'm sure you do see people coming in with burns because of stuff like that. >> absolutely. have you 400 to 600 fires a year that start with the christmas tree. jillian: what about the happening paper. people pretty typical done with it throw it in the fireplace. >> it's a bad idea. one, because there are chemicals that are released. it does put off a pretty light show. that means you are emitting chemicals in your home. embers go up in the chimney and cause your house to go
