1:08 pm
to avoid a government shutdown. >> we need to pass long-term spending bill. in the legislative process the negotiation that will go on between the white house and democrats in congress and our leadership in congress sometimes need to do a short extension. ultimately we need to do a bill that funds the government. it addresses the important priorities we need. there shall be in a discussion about shutting down the government. we can make it work. >> arthel: trump have a working lunch with republicans on tuesday. caroline has more. >> sometimes congress takes too long and sometimes they ran things threat lightning speed. republican leaders are planning on some lightning. in the next few weeks they may vote on taxes, the individual mandate, healthcare for kids, sexual-harassment, and the

1:10 pm
democrats tried to use leverage to shut down the government is not how it should be resolved. >> later say they're not afraid to keep leaders here past the scheduled break. >> thank you. >> eric: the latest in the russia investigation. a lot of questions raised in spiked relation about if michael flynn is or could potentially could be cooperating with prosecutors. we learned bad cut off communication with president trumps legal team. the company is cooperating with special counsel or tried to strike a deal. >> the report and suggest that michael flynn has some exposure based on his doings with russia and that disclosing some of those. if that is true is considerable
1:11 pm
criminal liability, the way to get yourself off the hook and potentially his son who's involved is to cooperate with the prosecution. >> so what's going on? here we live in washington. how's the president's team responding to flints put in the wall up? >> this is what they have been expecting. microphones attorney have had an information sharing agreement with the legal team and that's fairly normal to do these large criminal investigations. one side decides to cooperate that communication stops. this week general sense attorney made it known they cannot share information about the investigation. a member of the trump legal team said the prospective floor and entering a plea is not unexpected. no should draw a conclusion this means anything about him cooperating against the president. they believe any charges will be related to his lobbying work on behalf of turkey.
1:12 pm
it has nothing to do with the president of russia. some legal experts suggest that if michael flynn had damaging evidence against the president there's questions about his credibility. >> given his reputation his credibility a suspect. to put him on the witness stand against those charges they will need some good evidence to support his testimony if he agrees to cooperate. >> throughout, jonathan has been concerned about her son who has now become a target of the investigation .
1:13 pm
>> eric: microphone junior was certainly defending his father and twitter. you mentioned his lobbying work, is that expanding? >> is consulting a lot been work on behalf of russia and turkey has been a focus and point of interest. while michael flynn was campaigning of chart he was paid more than half million dollars by the turkish government. the wall street journal reports that included a non- finished documentary targeting a clerk in the u.s. they are trying to see if there's any further evidence to see if is hiding his work. >> eric: thank you. >> arthel: speaking of a congressional committee, commissioner has until tomorrow to provide information. we'll talk about the next. plus, deadly explosion leveling buildings and streets full of debris. where this catastrophic class happen.
1:14 pm
and a massacre at a mosque in egypt. people together to denounce terrorism. even as isis tries to influence the region. >> we know isis was to carry out attacks around each of. they would like to see a civil war here. egypt is a big price to them. the above to get a foothold. 1:18 pm
>> eric: two people were killede next lotion or shanghai. that blacked out several nearby buildings unless the streets littered with debris. it happened in the port city of limbo. the buildings were anti- at the time. they frequently suffer fires and accidents and are blamed on negligence. the cause of this is under investigation. >> arthel: tomorrow marks the deadline for president trumps on a monsignor advisor, jared kushner to turn over documents to the senate judiciary committee. they're investigating russian meddling in the election they sent a letter to kushner's attorney requesting materials that kushner had withheld.
1:19 pm
this comes as they claim kushner's place in the administration could be shrinking. >> arthel: we have the judiciary committee asking for specific documents. his lawyer said they submitted necessary documents as it pertains to the russian investigation. discussion or steam have any way go room to interpret what they deem necessary to submit? >> yes they have and they been doing it all along. the judiciary committee comes back and says they want more. they have other documents they can cross reference. this is a very normal process
1:20 pm
and investigation. nothing to worry about was jared kushner. being the center of the investigation is much more worry something from jared than just this routine document request. >> arthel: how so? >> it's a cancer on the white house itself. very intrusive and takes a lot of time and energy. there could be indictments coming down later for some of these people in the white house. just having that on your has prevented the white house from being as effective as they may have been throughout the first year. >> arthel: how much confidence and trust us kushner and his team have in the court of public opinion? >> i don't think the court of public opinion matters too much. by marriage she's very close to president trump. there's two articles today that say he is a dead man walking. i think that is overstated. he is still very close to president trump.
1:21 pm
he has learned in the first year the white house to dialback some of his ambitions and operate keep a lower profile entitlement of what he is doing. i don't think that doesn't mean that he doesn't have the power or ability to go to trump. he does. on one hand the articles are right that john kelly has restructured the white house. >> arthel: but kushner has to go through john kelly to have access to the president. >> i think that's a key. i think this investigation, everyone including president trump has to deal with the investigation. the key for this administration is if they can put blinders on and focus on the task at hand get the agenda through without
1:22 pm
having it bog them down. >> learning from the campaign and throughout the first year jared kushner is still one of the president's top confidants. he probably still maintain that role. it is probably safe to but the president is very much behind his son-in-law and will do what it takes to protect him. >> certainly. that doesn't mean they don't have their own disagreements. but that is normal. having disagreements within your family can be normal it doesn't mean you're not close. they do have a closeness that has benefited them. >> as on lookers try to analyze what can we expect to happen tomorrow and after additional documents have been submitted? >> handing over documents won't
1:23 pm
be anything. there will be a scene. we don't know what to expect. if you're at the white house you don't really know when the next interview indictment will come. that's the problem. a factor you cannot account for throughout whatever agenda you are trying to push. the michael flynn news that came of the weekend that he might be cooperating, you cannot count on those things. the uncertainty is problematic. >> arthel: we will leave it there. thank you. >> were learning more about the devastating attack on the mosque in egypt. how the neighbors are sending a strong message to the terrorist were behind the act.
1:24 pm
plus conservatives reacting after trump double down on the roy moore election. they face growing pressure to make major reforms on how deals with sexual harassment. >> this is all about politics. that's when politicians talk about this doesn't have a lot of credit credibility. it's been going on a long time. democrats and republicans trying to defend their own. i'm not at risk. even healthy adults 65 and older are at increased risk of pneumococcal pneumonia. isn't it like a bad cold or flu? pneumococcal pneumonia is a potentially serious bacterial lung disease. in some cases, part of your lung may fill with mucus, making it hard to breathe. can i catch it from a pneumococcal vaccination? no. the vaccines do not contain live bacteria.
1:29 pm
>> eric: as the alabama election nears there's problems the gop. they want roy moore to drop out after allegations against him. more is determined to stay in the race. president trump has been trying and having twitter taxon jones calling jones a week puppets. here's republican senator, johnson earlier today on fox news sunday.
1:30 pm
>> the president can speak for himself. i think he sees the specter of a democrat holding that seed what he might mean. the alternative is not with either. as far as i'm concerned the president to the degree he wants to use his influence could help everybody out by doing what he can to get roy moore to step aside. >> marianne, how confident are democrat doug jones today that he can defeat roy moore on december 12? >> one thing for certain, doug jones did not waste an opportunity to talk to voters before auburn pulled off a big win. he was campaigning tailgate style reminding voters that he needs their support for his own win against raymore. >> i think were gonna win, that selling.
1:31 pm
>> there many supporters that came out. we've been talking about all the issues that matter to people from day one. you get sidetracked on of the things we've been talking about the economy and healthcare. those are the issues. >> and alabama native, charles barkley voicing his support and expressing thoughts on more even before sexual assault allegations ever surfaced. >> we have a lot of black people in the state were amazing people. to run a guy who is a white nationalist and white separatist, that should disqualify roy moore before this women stuff came up. >> barkley never fully endorse jones. he did make his opinion very clear. >> eric: how could doug jones win impact the balance of power in the senate?
1:32 pm
>> it would mean a narrower margin for republican in the senate which stands 51 - 49. despite what happens, republicans are forging on hoping to pass the tax reform bill. trump is weighing in on the importance of the race tweeting, i endorse luther strains in the primary. but it was enough. to not let schumer pelosi win this race. meanwhile, we haven't seen much of roy moore the past couple of days. he does have plans to hold a rally tomorrow in fort payne alabama. this will be the first win since november 16 when he didn't allow any questions against him. we'll see if he addresses the allegations this time around.
1:33 pm
>> arthel: palestinian standing with egypt as it reels from an assault on a mosque. kill more than 300 people, the deadliest terror attack in modern history. here's what it looks like, palestinian showing solidarity with the victims. >> we stand with the families of the victims they're trying to shake egypt. >> paris and tel aviv are two cities paying tribute to the victims of friday's attack in the sinai desert in egypt. we are beginning to learn more about what led up to this attack
1:34 pm
that took place friday during the afternoon prayers. a small mosque in the desert town this is a small town only a few thousand people about 500 or so people in the mosque praying for somewhere between 20 and 30 militants set off a bomb and then took positions and began firing as they are trying to flee to safety killing more than 300 people and injuring a hundred or so. many children. authorities say the mosque which was a very tolerant and moderate form of his son like isis and al qaeda have been working and cooperating with egyptian officials to stamp out extremism. isis has come to the leaders of that community telling them to stop working and stop
1:35 pm
communicating and cooperating with egyptian officials or there would be an attack. according to witnesses gunmen who launched the attack were flying isis banners and were part of an affiliate isis group that has wreaked havoc about the sinai in recent weeks. egyptian military launched airstrikes in retaliation in the mountainous region. it was natural the target was if they were successful. egyptian president has vowed to make sure this attack does not go unpunished. this is about they have made several times. we have seen in the past two or three years a wave of violence carried out by isis. the egyptian government has been unable to stop the attacks. there are questions about how much of a commitment there is on the ground to take it to isis in the sinai.
1:36 pm
that's a serious problem in the egyptian government that they may not be doing enough. >> arthel: and whether or not they will ask for help where they can get it. >> eric: let's bring in the ambassador and fox news foreign affairs analyst. and now the u.s. relationship from truman to obama. as we heard from conor, can you describe the depth of opposition by the jihadists and the radicals against more moderate? >> the jihadists, al qaeda, isis, reject the idea of the other. they reject the idea of the other sunni muslims embrace it.
1:37 pm
it has shrines to saints which is different than the norm. they're viewed as intermediaries from the standpoint of radicals they take it as being a form of rejection of islam and it becomes an excuse to go after what i call the other. the problem is that they treat anyone who they treat and seem to be the other is fair game to kill. what makes it unacceptable is their ideology of power and control is one of exclusion and intolerance. and one frequently of murder. >> and the other could be infidels. we've seen attacks on christian churches and on themselves on the fellow members of the fellow religion. this goes back centuries.
1:38 pm
>> overseen is isis and al qaeda ultimately tend to make other muslims the victims. matches they carry the attack outside the region but look at it inside the region and look at who have been killed. most had been victims of their violence and assaults have been other muslims. >> eric: where's the outrage in the public calls against us? are there elements within the religion have tried to defeat this? is like a revolution to support moderates. >> it is. we've seen the early reports on palestinians. but today thousands of students came out to condemn what happened in march. something you have not seen
1:39 pm
before. there is a gathering today to counter extremism in the crown prince emphasized the solidarity you need to respond and take condemn those who define themselves as radical us to condemn what they represent. they don't represent their religion. these actions could galvanize the broader middle east and begin to focus on discrediting. islam is a religion and faith, at that ideology. discrediting them, that's on the west campus credit those are the ones who can say this is a
1:40 pm
perversion of our faith. >> we hope the sunnis do that and rise up. the rest can't do it. >> president trump said this is horrible attack. the world cannot tolerate terrorism. we must defeat them militarily and discredit the ideology that forms the basis of their existence. can they be defeated where they finally defeat. >> defeating them militarily at one level can be done but in the sinai it may have the more we leave syria and iraq the more we see there fighting for isis relocate. semi relocating in the sinai.
1:41 pm
those previously are being replaced by those who seem to be more effective in terms of carrying it out. this is a long struggle militarily. it has to have a philosophical component. you cannot allow a vacuum to emerge. you need reconstruction. there needs to be good governance. one source of alienation has been terrible governance. if you want to ensure there is not fertile ground you have to ensure there's hope in a possibility. if were going to defeat the.
