the al termive minimum tax to provide more revenue and allowing property tax deductions up to $10,000 like the house bill and keeping the medical expense deduction for the next two years. all democrats voted against the bill. the only republican no came from tennessee senator bob corker, who had concerns over the impact to the national debt. >> i'm totally confident this is a revenue neutral bill. i think it's going to be a revenue producer. as we have said over and over and over again, the 1.5 trillion-dollar deficit only to be filled, only requires us to grow .4 of 1% over the next 10 years. >> this bill slangted toward the wealthy and powerful and tax increases on middle class citizens. >> the house has approved two different bills before this gets to the president. they need to come to an agreement and merge the two pieces of legislation. that starts when they go to conference. the house is expected to vote monday night to go to

this bill the reason why this bill isn't as clean and as simple as we all want at this point is because of senators. ed: corporate tax rate going down from 35% down to 20%. we have got that graphic right there. the individual tax cut part of this though i think is fascinating because the joint committee on taxation take a look at this, 60% of households are going to get a tax cut. 8%, less than 10% of u.s. households will pay more. 80% of families making 50,000 to 75,000 per year get a tax cut of at least $100. why do i specify those numbers? you heard schumer, we played it there. ellison had it, he said this is all for the wealth yansd powerful. 80% of people making 50 to 75,000 getting a tax cut. how is that geared toward the wealthy and powerful? i thought that kimberly strossel in the "wall street

muddy on the individual side corporate they stayed the course. rachel: when you get those corporate rates down when the econom economy grows it's gd for everybody. how will this benefit someone like myself. this is one our viewers, that works full time but makes less than $50,000. >> i don't think for a person like that there is going to be very much change. when you are talking about making $50,000, investor not -- he is probably not paying in that much in tax to start with. so, if i had to guess on that one, that's probably a break even under this plan. pete: doubling the standard deduction helps, right? >> yes. can you only get back what you pay in. that's the point. unless there is some tax credit there. ed: something lost in this debate you are right a lot of people making less than $50,000 a year are not paying any taxes. >> that's right. almost half the people are not paying any federal income tax to start with. pete: got an email from paul. will the alternative minimum

tax be repealed under this plan? >> it was supposed to be but it's back. the reason it came back is during the horse trading, they needed to pick up more revenue. now,. >> all about the rules, right? >> all about the rules. rachel: and the senate. >> and the senate. this is really a big hit for high tax states. why? the whole game that was being played hereby is we are getting rid of the state and local income tax deduction. but, don't worry, because we're going to take away the alternative minimum tax. now they put it back in. so, now you are going to get hit twice if you are at that level. simplification by the way. ed: new york, connecticut, new jersey that could be a big hit. >> that's correct. ed: stock market has been raising. are there changes for capital gains tax. >> there are no changes for capital gains. that's one of the things you talk about when you really want to stimulate the economy. you bring down those capital gains rates. they did not do that so

everything is going to stay the same. rachel: let's get another email in from one of our viewers. i run my own business as a sole priority. i make about $150,000 a year doing it as llc. will my taxes go down to 20%? >> well, it's not going to be a mirror image of what's going on with the large corporations. what they're going to do with those pass through entities is if $150,000 is what has passed through is going to be, they are going to allow a deduction for 23%. so he will pay tax on the balance of that number baled upon the new individual rate. whatever comes out after reconciliation. ed: individual rate comes down you may have a little cut but you are not going down 20%? >> correct. pete: one more question from philip. what will the effect on retired folks' income taxes from iras and retirement. >> retirement income tax is not going to change. this is really just the

cheered over the news of flynn's plea. are they completely ignoring controversy like susan rice unmasking. here to weigh in is sara carter. so the so-called mainstream media which is of course completely left wing they went nuts yesterday about this flynn news. put it in context for us you could see the reaction. this was a long time coming. people had suspected. if they were going to get flynn on anything they would get lieutenant general michael flynn on possibly not giving all of the information that he had to the fbi, which is what he pled guilty to. and it was a very low count. we didn't have any information there that showed any kind of russia collusion. and as ed said earlier, we

have to wait and see whether or not there was anything beyond that was there a reason why he withholding some information or will he come out eventually and just talk about everything? we what we do know, pete, in the beginning before he was revealed. before his conversation with ambassador kislyak was outed in "the washington post," if that they were watching him. right after president trump was elected, there was an intensified increase in unmasking people, apparently associated with the trump campaign and then with the trump transition team by the obama administration. that's something they failed to touch on. that's something that needs to be investigated because we know now fisa section 702 ends on december 31st. they will push it through for reauthorization. there needs to be a full investigation into the extent of powers within these agencies. and how those powers have been extended to government officials. rachel: we talked about the

liberal media. but, if flynn -- i'm sorry, if mueller does not go after and expose or charge someone on the unmasking, how does that undermine his credibility in the entire investigation? >> well, rachel, i think this is what is going to happen. we know that the department of justice is now looking into 27 leak investigations. that's incredible. that's much higher than what we had thought. so that's a good thing. they are looking into that. i think the second part and i don't know how this is going to play out. i think definitely muriel should be looking a -- mueller should look at who leaked the name with ambassador kislyak. why was his name unmasked. we still haven't understood. we knew there was a fisa on kislyak. what about michael flynn? how did they know it was that number specifically they needed to unmask and look at that conversation? that's interesting to me. i think there needs to be a full investigation either by the inspector general of the intelligence community.

in fact, we are turning into an actual sanctuary state on january 1st thanks to recent legislation. there is this narrative that we are talking about your cleaning person or, you know, innocent people who are fleeing persecution and what have you that might have been the case in 1980s. we had civil wars going on in central america. but today, you know, we have nafta, we have better economic conditions in mexico. and these are really economic my grants and, again most of them are not criminals. there is no defense for san francisco and other 300 cities in the united states coddling these people and, in fact, releasing them into our communities and conspiring against the federal government and the citizens to do that. there is absolutely no justification for that. i hope this spurs some action but, frankly, i'm not hopeful. california is actually going in the opposite direction. ed: reuben, you come at this more from the left. you say there is no such thing as a sanctuary city. didn't we see this play out? there is.

there are sanctuary cities and the one in san francisco is disgusting what's happening now. how can you say there are no sanctuary cities? >> because i have been covering, ed, of the immigration issue for 25 years. because i have covered it not from new york or d.c. but from dallas, phoenix, and san diego on the front lines. and because there is no city in america where you can go as undocumented immigrant to avoid immigration law. just like there is no? i america where can you go to avoid paying your taxes. the very idea that you have as the other guest says 300 cities and somehow in those 300 cities immigration agents are not going in every day and rounding up people, they are. including my city of san diego. we are a sanctuary city. today there is a very brisk business going on with ice agents rounding up u. up and deporting illegal immigrants 365 all year long because this whole idea of a sanctuary city has been poorly reported over the years by media. unicorn of the immigration debate doesn't exist. a fiction created by the left to pretend that localities can push the federal government around around tell it what can could.

conference. i think they are going to have to. we have to work out some of these finer points of tax reform. i have got to tell you, in one moment, ed, i'm like the senate is doing a great job passing tax reform. the next one the senate always fails. they can't get anything done. it was heartening last night they got their act together and actually passed the bill. i'm excited though i do think we have to tweak out some differences. pete: sean, we showing you a visual of you with all your kids and rachel's kids. all there. how much perspective does that give you vis-a-vis other members of congress not working family with kids in wisconsin. how important to you is it that this code responds to working people? >> i heard the stat that, you know, most -- half of americans are $400 away from financial or economic crisis in their home. and so if you have a family that makes $59,000 a year. they pay about $1,700 a year in taxes. under our plan they would pay 400. they are saving over $100 a
