speed was a factor because the train which was on its inaugural trip from seattle to portland was going 50 miles over the speed limit when it headed into a curve and jumped the tracks. investigators at the national transportation safety board have recovered the event data recorder, the equivalent of an airplane black box and they say the train was going 80 mph in a 30 mph zone. who did speed alone contribute to the accident remains to be seen but witnesses since impending danger just prior to the crash. >> i was going around the curve, we started to tilt, you're going too fast. >> there is never an explanation for that. >> felt like a war. >> reporter: these are just some of the few who jumped in to help victims, 85 people on the train,

three died, their identities have not been released, 72 were treated at local hospital, 10 are said to be in serious condition and a lot of questions whether amtrak's new passenger line was safe, the tracks had undergone a $181 million upgrade to get people between seattle and portland 10 minutes faster, the technology that can slow or stop a speeding train was not in use in the stretch of track and one local predicted the new line would lead to fatalities with trains traveling so close to traffic and pedestrians would in a statement amtrak said, quote, at this time we will not speculate about the cause and we encourage others not to speculate as well. at some point amtrak and federal investigators will have to explain why this train was hurtling 50 miles over the speed limit. you can see the huge cranes lifting the records, it is tough going and a steady downpour of southbound interstate 5, a major

you make of it? >> a great speech, assaulting new york result after a decade of applesauce. donald trump has thrown out a lot of that college term paper lingo from the obama ear and given us a key new take away, stand up for ourselves and given us a trump doctrine. jillian: let's look at the principal starting with protecting the homeland, advancing american prosperity, peace through strength and enhancing american influence. out of these things what is most important and how difficult will it be to enforce all of this? >> all four are important but the first one stands out to me, protect the homeland, here trump has done something new, he has added immigration, security, vetting potential terrorists and the refugee flow, added that, he said a nation without borders is not a nation, who can disagree with that. on top he will have to do layered missile defense and many

other sophisticated things that protect our homeland. rob: he said something about advancing american influence abroad and there was question about whether that stepson his former idea, take a step back, don't know if you want to see more of an isolationist nation but not going to nation building and stuff like that it almost seemed there was a bit of confusion about where the policy stands. >> no nationbuilding but not isolation either. he pointed out our alliances are stronger than ever, nato at 29 members, there are 70 countries and entities in the anti-isis coalitions of you sticking with our allies but since we have 2 take care of american prosperity first. he is getting us ready for a long-term competition with china and our economy is what makes our military power strong.

that is fresh in this speech, recognizing we have to have a strong economy to deter and balance with our military throughout the world. jillian: a couple things are changing to keep up with us america first idea, look at this, starting with islamic terrorism, renewed focus, climate change, i have seen a lot of back lash, no longer a national security threat, the middle east, iran, not israel, a threat to peace, immigration, very strong on this, ending migration increasing vetting. what is your take on this? >> big differences. i care about the climate but climate change doesn't have to be in the national security strategy. it is a good move to put climate change somewhere else. he is talking about iran, we know what he refused to recertify the iran deal, don't forget there is almost a mini cold war between iran and saudi arabia.
