putin. steve harrigan is live in west palm beach florida may the presence mar-a-lago estate. steve? >> what is clear at this point is that the sale of anti-missiles, antitank missiles by the us to the ukrainian government would mark a major escalation in us support for ukrainian forces that have been fighting russian backed separatists on their own territory since 2014. despite cease-fires, fighting between the two sides has sparked in recent weeks. this could really spark things even further. russia lost no time denouncing the move. they say this can lead to further bloodshed and her relations between russia and the us. both the foreign ministry and officials denouncing it. the us saying these are purely defensive weapons to protect ukrainian forces on their own territory. as for the president, his motorcade here left mar-a-lago just after 9 am. he played at least 18 holes of golf today with at least two golf pros. he may have played 1/19 hole.

at and talking about a lot over the first part of next year. >> much to be done. ellison barber is live in washington. >> it is a very big to do list when they come back. which is not necessarily abnormal for congress but they really do not have a lot of time to do it. it is because house leadership decided to stay on vacation for a few extra days. they were sent to return from recess on january 3 but now they will not come back to work until the eighth. before they left washington, congress did pass a stopgap measure to keep the government open until january 19. but they did not do a lot of things. republicans tell fox news they heavily could have done a better job multitasking during the tax reform debate. instead of leaving government funding until the very last minute. take a look at what they did not deal with. they did not fund the government long term. they did not reauthorize the controversial domestics pfizer

program long-term, they did not deal with daca and they did not deal with disaster aid. in exchange for the yes vote on the tax bill, arizona senator jeff flake says majority leader mitch mcconnell promised to hold a boat on just as a vote on daca legislation in january. >> every day nearly over 100-4100 20 -- doctor recipients lose their status. we need it soon. >> republicans say the pentagon defense appropriation needs to be a big focus. a republican representative told us sequester cuts have had the military. he and other defense hawks want to address military funding in a more appropriate manner.he says the short-term continuing resolution was necessary for

what are the priorities they should address? >> is a great question. they got almost nothing done almost all year except one thing at the very end what i get an extra week off of work? i don't think so. i'm quite surprised that congress decided to take extra time off with the to do list. and there are different priorities for different lawmakers and not just in the party as well. and it is estimated to cost about one -- $1.5 trillion. a lot want to increase military spending. and then democrats say that they do not, they want to agree to increase military spending less domestic spending is also increased. then you add to that the $1 trillion infrastructure which the president must make the party. and you wonder how is this all going to pan out infallibly for this all? >> exactly. and how do you pay for this when you have a pay-as-you-go

type of plan. paul ryan, he says the vast majority of republicans want to see a daca solution. and that is a balance plan. speaking of a balanced plan. republicans and democrats are expected to work in a bipartisan fashion to accomplish a plan for daca. where will republicans hold off until march as mr. mcconnell keeps hinting around that the president is giving them a deadline until march? and what will that do for the dreamers? >> nothing like procrastination, right? you have a lot of republicans. democrats want a solution. and a lot of republicans, this is a very sympathetic group of people. people that came here unwillingly as children. illegally. and a lot of them are in school. they're working hard, they take advantage of the legal status that it gives them temporarily. you have some republicans to say we will do something about this but in exchange, let's

increase border security let's do other things on immigration. things democrats are not crazy about. and you think that everybody is sympathetic to the plight of these young people. let's come together and do something. the problem is the democrats do not want to give republicans a win of any sort for daisy donald trump as toxic. they would not work with them at all on the tax bill and i wonder, will they work with him on immigration? >> good question. we will find out when they return. most of the storm damage. red hurricanes irma and harvey causing massive devastation in parts of louisiana, texas, puerto rico and of the us territorial islands throughout the caribbean. house lawmakers have already scheduled a vote on $81 billion plan to offer rebuilding aid to hurricane victims. plus states ravaged by fires in california. what action, expect the senate to take? for example, senator john thune said earlier this week, at some

point, we've got to make the hard decisions. which get back to my colleague molly was saying. you cannot keep kicking the can down the road. >> exactly! house did as you mentioned, want to vote on the skillet with the senator said we are not going to vote on this before the holidays. and this isn't one of the things.you have as long to do list. would you want to get some of it out of the way? this is one that has the most bipartisan support. i mean, who wants to say, no, we're not going to help people in america who have been harmed by natural disasters? republicans and democrats alike are ready to spend money on this. it is kind of surprising would not go ahead and do this or get off of the list. instead there are a lot of issues that there will not be much agreement on. you have to start working at some point. >> so many issues and so much work to do. let's see what happens. maybe santa claus will deliver them some good cheer that will help them come back to congress and do the right thing and work together in a bipartisan

reality, these are defensive weapons. these are meant to help ukraine defend itself against the russian separatists. how big of a shift is this? what does this essentially mean? >> i think it is a significant shift. politically, not on providing legal assistance. it was a different station.i think this decision was long overdue. i think not in the trump administration but long overdue for the united states. what russia has done here is violate the redline in 1945 when world war ii ended. basically among other things, we said we would not tell receives a force to change international boundaries on the continent of europe. and that is actually what a putin and russia have done. you have an x crimea using military force. they have been in another region of eastern ukraine for

years now. we do not know exactly what their aims are. but certainly, they have created a conflict there that they can ramp up -- it is simply not the way that we can expect things to happen when russians or counselors unless they're looking for ways to cooperate with us. >> sometimes you hear this being billed as a low-grade war but 10,000 people have in essence this annexation in 2014, one said that by taking this action americas wrapping up the conflict. and of course they make note that moscow is the one sending troops. and there's an intense which is why you need something to fight back at them. they are not really being genuine in russia and is it possible that this will ramp things up with conflict? >> russian diplomats not being

truthful. what a shocker that would be! they are just very good at propaganda. they know as well as anybody that the conflict started when the so-called russian volunteers crossed the border from russia into ukraine. the ukrainians called and little green men. they have green uniforms with no markings. i was the russian forces. you, however, this is characterized russia has dialed the temperature up and back. a notion that ukraine held by not getting the assistance to defend itself is increasing the conflict it really gets -- this is russia's responsibility entirely vacant and it is to -- >> what happens next? >> i think the united states should do more. i think even though ukraine is not a nato member, there are

nato members bordering on russia. and others that are very close to it in the eastern center they are very worried about the assertiveness. they all recall vladimir putin said 12 years ago when he was the president of russia leslie mayes of the breakup of the soviet union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century. after that it was a pretty good thing and so did we that the soviet union broke up. but vladimir putin has aspirations to reestablish russian -- and the space. it is contrary to the nato allies and we need a strategy for. >> as he becomes more aggressive they are saying we are going to stop this now and from here on out, they will be

francisco. everitt aaron jameson is a former raymond with a sharpshooter qualification but he jumped on the fbi radar after they received a tip that he was expressing support for pro isis and pro terror posts on social media. an undercover agent posing as a senior isis leader started talking to him. he allegedly described wanting to use explosives to funnel a large number of people into one place where he could attack a maximum number of targets. the fbi file terror charges against him on friday. where the agency notes that he expressed regret earlier and they said that they found a note saying that he wanted to do this after the president recognize the capital of israel. the family says and no idea about the alleged plot and hope that all of this is just from a complicated domestic situation.

controversy involving the fbi for the former fbi director publicly defending former top fbi lawyer, james baker.he was recently reassigned as long-standing post is the fbi general counsel. the reason for his removal is unclear. james comey tweeting quote - sadly, we now at a point in the political life where anyone can be attacked for partisan gain. james baker who is stepping down as fbi general counsel, served our country incredibly well for 25 years. and it deserves better. there is what we should all want our public servants to be. let's bring our panel. with the founder and ceo of blueprint strategy antidemocratic strategist. and a media director for reform and -- thank you for being here. >> thank you! >> there's a lot to unpack. the fbi, james baker has been reassigned. we have seen a lot of movement

at the fbi series people being removed. the washington post is reporting that baker has been reassigned because super ray essentially wants to form his own team. but they say gop sources documents show that baker communicating with a reporter in the weeks prior to the 2016 election. the reporter says that baker was not his source but is the reporter that initially reported the existence of the unverified controversial dossier regarding trump and russia. guess the big question is here we have another person that has been reassigned. is there anything there? antoine? >> i don't know but i think we should be thankful for mr. baker's 25 years of service to the fbi. 25 years of that agency, he has seen the sun and the rain and has been through the pleasure and the pain was very unfortunate as we say in the past several weeks, the fbi is under attack by the

administration and partly by republicans in congress to undermine the investigation. the picture seems hotter with the prosecutor, martin moore reassignment and departures over the next several weeks, days and months. >> you think people are reading a lot into every movement at the fbi? because there are things in movement there. just kind of overall. is this something we should really looking at closely? >> first i think it is ironic to see james comey talking about it is that anyone can have your positions taken for partisan reasons. if anything knows about that it is him because he knows. this doesn't have as much to with baker in some ways as it does just about pr in general. it is struggling to gain the trust of the american people. and the american people do not trust him and i think it's time to switch around some of the

old guard to bring in new faces that maybe will not let the personal politics get in the way of the investigation. >> and antjuan seawright >> is unfortunate that he is using that rhetoric because it is very much so my people have distrusted the agency. because it is under attack by the president and the republican party. it undermines the ongoing investigation by the special prosecutor. it is unfortunate for the fbi is one of the most trusted agencies in the country and has been for a long time. they have 25 years with him. he has done something right in his lifetime in government work. >> on that note, democrats and republicans both really have gone into the fbi when you look over the longer amount of years. there are plenty of democrats very concerned about the hillary clinton investigation and for criticizing leaks that were coming out. it really comes from both sides to look back historically.

>> and antjuan seawright cantola how baker has been here for 25 years and they should know he is immune. that you show the seriousness that someone been there so long has been pushed out. >> there is reason to question was going on in the fbi. you weeks to look at text messages that can appear with high-level officials admitting in their own words they had planned during the campaign in case donald trump did win. [multiple speakers] >> you are saying, this should put a stain on the glass for the fbi because in one incident.it is not fair. i think that is a problem we have. it is an ongoing effort to undermine robert mueller is due because he is getting closer and closer as he continues his investigation as the temperature rises and gets hotter. we go to see more and more tax on the republican party. on the institution under the fbi. >> talk about the mueller

investigation is a question whether or not we're getting close to the end or not. some have said perhaps we are finally nearing the end. others think it will go well into 2018. we'll see what actually happens. there's been a lot of rumors on capitol hill. we usually do not report rumors but people talk about these of the democrats. they have talked about the potential for robert mueller to be removed. there has been a lot of pushback from the white house on the fact that this investigation is proceeding. where do we go from here as we look into 2018? all of this is still unfolding. now we are seeing another reassignment or move at the fbi as we go forward. was on hold for next year cabot phillips? >> i will not make a prediction when the investigation will come to an end. i think we have seen how volatile it is. i think it is important to wait for the facts to come out. but mayor garcetti fbi, absolutely, the vast majority of people if we are doing great work for the country. they should be commended for that. but also to collect failures as they come out and if in fact there has been missteps from

the fbi in the investigation. nbc evidence that that is the case, i think it is a disservice to the good people in the fbi if we do not call out the ones that are not doing their job. and so it is not about rhetoric is about getting to the truth. the american people deserve to have fbi that is not letting personal rhetoric for policy get involved in the investigation. >> calling the republican party and the president for a stain on the glass window known as the fbi. i think it is wrong and i think the rhetoric is getting out of hand to that point. and as i democrats are very concerned there will be a move to remove this initial prosecutor based on the rhetoric we have seen. the republicans in congress and some of the folks at the white house. >> okay antjuan seawright and cabot phillips, thank you so much and have a wonderful holiday! >> thank you. >> the deli thomas wildfires in southern california are the biggest ever in-state history. the fire broke out nearly 3

weeks ago. it is still burning. it broke out across santa barbara and ventura counties with high wind and dry weather. the fire burning more than 700 homes and other buildings across more than 273,000 acres. that is slightly bigger than the previous record holder, the cedar fire. right of the thomas fire is about65 percent contained . >> winter weather is here, just in time for christmas. and the holiday travel rush! more than 20 states getting snow, sleet and rain. from oklahoma to montana although acting new england. resting on their meteorologist with more and how it looks at their. people are trying to get from place to place a. adam? >> whizzing a little bit of trouble trouble at this point, mostly along the east coast. a lot of thunderstorms in the southeast running and becoming snow further to the north. this will be an issue for anyone along the many highways along this corridor.

also for flights! a chance to see delays. anything you are looking at in yellow and orange are the beginnings of some delays stretching along the east coast. anything in red would mean a total delay or stop. we do not see that and i'm not expecting it to get much worse than what we are seeing now. things will be clearing up in the future forecast. this is the future radar. this activity now is clearing off throughout saturday. sunday, any closer traveling along the east coast should be good. the next area we are looking at is a round of snow in the midwest on sunday moving towards the east coast eventually for us on christmas day. we may see some flurries stretching from d.c. up to the boston area. it will be a little bit of a wintry mix. the forecasted highs in the next couple of days, and arctic blast on the backside of the system. look at temperatures. these are highs for saturday. we continue to see this settle father in. we see a lot of 20s and 30s and even more on christmas day.

people right where they are. can you tell me about that experience? >> yes, i can. it is the most profound experience i've ever had and i had the opportunity in rwanda to meet an amazing woman by the name of -- this woman survived the genocide. genocide killed a million people in a million people fled. she tells the story where she is with her children and her husband and her husband is shot in front of her. and her children are shot in front of her. she has a baby on her back. and a spear was driven through the baby, through her back and she laid on the ground. everybody thought she was dead. for five days, she drank the blood of her dead husband and she was able to stay alive. i have the opportunity to go

weeks since the president made his decision. violent clashes here continue. earlier today bethlehem had clashes with palestinians in israeli soldiers. the demonstrations here have shrunk significantly since the president announced the unilateral decision to recognize jerusalem as israel's capital. the clashes in bethlehem are what normally a very active holiday season and the birth city of jesus. meanwhile palestinian president is issuing a christmas message calling on the international christian community to quote - listen to these indigenous christians from the holy land and reject the president trumps recognition of this of the capital. the fallout from the united nations about condemning the announcement of jerusalem. also continuing us ambassador to the un, nikki haley, inviting the representatives from nine countries that voted
