congressman desantis. thank you for being here, we appreciate. you were down at the white house with president trump's big celebration of the tax bill. can you tell us how that was for the president and for you? >> it was a landmark piece of legislation. it's been since ronald reagan that you have had a major overhaul of the tax code, and we got it done. obama got obama car it second year, not the first year. other presidents have not necessarily been able to do this in the first year. i think everyone was excited and hopefully it will be a roadmap for going forward. we have seen the senate have problems get things across the finish line. i saw senators who were happy to have gotten things done. hopefully the senators can line up and get those 50 votes so we
12:02 am
can do welfare reform and build the wall. >> the president has talked about going forward and selling this bill. but said once people see their taxes and paychecks in february, it will sell itself. what is the gop planning on doing going forward to make sure people understand this legislation? >> i can only attribute this to media disinformation. the majority of taxpayers thought they were going to get an increase under this bill. 97% of taxpayers are going to get tax cuts. i struggled to find examples of taxpayers month will be worse off. i think people will realize the press coverage wasn't in tune with the reality of the bill. katie: one of the criticisms of the bill is there is a permanent tax cut for corporations while
12:03 am
tax cut for individuals and families has a sunset clause. it has to do with the rules. >> it's based on senate rules. and they had to have some of the tax cuts be a 10-year window. i'm going to be pushing along with some of my other colleagues to the fact that the individual rates expire in 10 years. let's put a bill on the floor in early january, let's make all of the individual rates permanent. we'll see if the democrats are willing to join us. republicans obviously want the rates permanent. i don't know if the democrats in the senate will help us. we'll see. katie: we'll move on to another topic. the fbi has been in hot water for the past few weeks as we have seen biased texts against trump at the fbi. what is the status of the
12:04 am
investigation? what is going on now with that scandal? >> i think it's important to point out. there was anti-trump sentiment with peter strzok who is the lead agent from the hillary investigation and lead agent in the russia investigation. but it was more than that. he wrote a text message to lisa page talking about a meeting they had in andrew mccabe's office, the fbi deputy director saying i wish what you said about trump not being able to winik take that to the bank. but we need an understand policy basically to stop trump from being elected. that's the reason he got kicked off the mueller probe. the question is, what was that understand policy? most of of us go back to that steele dossier that was paid for by hillary and the democratic party. there is fake news, false
12:05 am
claims. nevertheless, the fbi took cog any zans of that dossier at some point. we are trying to figure out if the fbi used any of that to get surveillance over trump associates. if that's the case, if the answer to those questions is yes, then you have the fbi working with hillary and the democratic party. katie: what about the accountability aspect of this. we have the american people seeing this happening over and over again inside the government. what are you doing specifically? are there contempt charges on the table for the fbi not answering your questions? andrew mccabe was on the hill this week testifying. it doesn't look like lawmakers are happy with what he said because his testimony was
12:06 am
incongruent with what others have said. >> mccabe has come in, very unsatisfactory testimony. you see the news today, he's moving on. and that may be the reason why. we need to subpoena bruce ohr. he was sally yates' right-hand man at the agency. you have got to subpoena ohr, the wife, other folks like peter strzok and lisa page. they need to be under oath, they need to be deposed. none of the stuff like they did with hillary where they asked her some softball questions and didn't transcribe it. these are legitimate, transcribed. and if they lie, they will be held accountable. if the fbi isn't going to give us the information we are asking for, we should hold rosenstein
12:07 am
and christopher wray in contempt. katie: merry christmas, congressman ron desantis. thanks very much. joining me now with more reaction to the tax bill and other headlines. lawrence jones and former democratic member of the ohio senate capri faro. there is a federal judge out of seattle who has lifted a partially lifted parts of the trump administration's travel ban saying the aclu's arguments have stood in court, allowing some of that ban to be lifted. what is your response, lawrence? >> when people talk about the accomplishments of this president, i always go back to the 12 appointees with it comes to our federal judges. this is why we need good conservative jungts that respect the constitution.
12:08 am
everyone knows the president has the authority when it comes to the constitution to protect this country. and we have another liberal judge playing politics with immigration policy. katie: the aclu is representing a somali man who is trying to bring his family here. isn't this going to be a fight in the future. >> certainly. this debate is not over with the issue of chain migration. and what we are going to see in 2018 is the possibility for immigration reform for issues like having to deal with daca by march. obviously the travel ban and daca are not the same thing. but the policy of immigration is not going away. we need to remember there are three branches of government. the reason we have appellate courts and the judicial system,
12:09 am
the framers wanted to make sure we had balance in our government so no bran overreaches. i am sure it will be further appealed. katie: speak of topics that aren't going away. tax reform is one of them. we have an election coming up, lawrence. it will be difficult for democrats to argue against people having more money in their paychecks. >> i wanted a little bit more when it came to the individual. i'm all in support of the corporations getting a tax cut as well. but people are going to start to see more money in their bank account february and march. that's what members of congress are saying, and it will be difficult for them to argue against it. this is something when we talk about the president's accomplishments. this one that's tangible and the american people will be able to
12:10 am
feel. katie: democrats have been arguing in the media and their fundraising emails this is just a thousand dollars it's just $2,000. it's not the greatest thing in the world. they are not accepting the bonuses these corporations are going giving out as a substantial pay increase. and we see corporations increasing their minimum wage to $15 which is a leftist cause. how will democrats use that argument going into 2018? do you think it's going to work? >> you obviously first need to have a job in order to get a bonus. but the fact there are democrats out there saying it's only $1,000 and it's a p.r. move. i'm fromio, i can tell you if an individual or flame had an extra $1,000, it will mean a lot at the end of the day for that
12:11 am
family. it's an inside the beltway view that $1,000 doesn't mean much. democrats need to show what they are going to offer for the american public coming up in 2018. we need to be for something. we could -- there could have been more done for the individuals. let's focus on going forward, focus on infrastructure, focus on how we can show we are the adults in the room and we can govern. katie: we just had congressman ron desantis on and he said he's willing to bring up permanent cuts for individuals as soon as they get back from the christmas break after new years. will democrats jump on board with that or will they resist throughout president trump's first year? >> i can see them resisting. this is about politics. this only being 10 years.
12:12 am
democrats can make a commitment to the american people that they will keep cuts. or improve it. bring the bill to the floor and say let's get there is individual tax rate down. i think republicans would get on board. >> republicans need to let them bring it to the floor first. katie: they have to write a bill first. but the follow-up on 2018. we are almost there. president won because he flipped 100-plus counties that were barack obama blue to red for trump. how is that going to play out in counties like that where people are getting a tax break? how are democrats going to get those voters back based on for something? what does that for mean? >> i am from one of those counties. my county voted for donald trump. went blue for the first time
12:13 am
since 1928 because democrats voted for donald trump. and we do care about economic and kitchen table issues. if we are able to show that congressman desantis says we'll have a permanent tax cut. if we get on board with that we can show we are willing to come together for solutions for the american people. we only have a temporary extension of our budget through the continuing resolution. katie: lawrence? >> democrats aren't as reasonable as capri is. she is from a county that voted for donald trump and swings back and forth. she understands that $1,000 -- she is not nancy pelosi and chuck schumer.
12:14 am
there should be more capris. katie: i know that is something that's on the table. one more question i have moving forward. how the democrats see this playing out with the leadership in terms of washington, d.c. is nancy pelosi going to be around much longer? >> i see a lot of young forces that want to be part of the leadership. she has too much money. we know in politics, money controls everything. when you have know a lot of things that happened with bernie sanders in the past election, i'm not sure the democrats have had a full audit yet and they are willing to get rid of nancy. >> the first step is acceptance so we'll see how that goes. thank you so much. judge jeanine takes you for a ride in a state of the art military jet. but jay christian adams standing

12:20 am
katie: why can't president trump just renovember mccabe from his position. my understanding is he's a civil servant not a political appointee. can christopher wray able to do something about the problem the fbi? >> wray is but so are a lot of other people. the problem stops with rod rosenstein. he has a host of deputies working for him giving cover to these fbi people. any time this gets brought up, rosenstein and his deputies push back and defend the fbi. katie: should the president be getting involved? is it consequential for him to be tweeting about it? does it hurt the inspector general's investigation?
