true, i mean, is this something where something more serious than a retirement could possibly happen? i mean, is he just trying to get out as quick as he can? >> well, i think the key question here is going to be, what was the insurance policy discussed in andy's office as the struck-page texts indicate? was that insurance company insurance policy -- this is the key question, guys -- was that insurance policy the use of the dossier to initiate fisa warrants against carter page and trump operatives? remember, that dossier was not verified. matter of fact it was jim comey, the director of the f.b.i. himself, and i'm quoting it here called it a salacious document after the fisa warrants had been issued. think about what that means. if that was used, the dossier, to spy to americans and then later on the f.b.i. director himself said it was salacious and mccabe was -- may have been involved in that? you have a really big problem if

molly: the true meaning of christmas. it is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot this time of year but what does it really mean. ed: here to break it down for all of us on christmas eve day, religion contributor for fox news, father jonathan morris. each person obviously is able to come to their faith in their own way but what message do you like people to be thinking about? >> it's true everybody can come to it in their own way but there's also historic fact that you can't decide whether or not it existed, didn't exist, whether it happened or not and that is jesus of nazareth was born in bethlehem. that's a fact, and that's what christmas is. now, of course as christians, we believe that jesus of nazareth was also the son of god. he came for a reason. he came to redeem us from our sins. so that's where the faith comes in. but we can't say, "oh, i don't believe in jesus." well, jesus was a historic figure. he lived. he died. he was crucified.

and the faith comes in of who he was and what he meant. molly: you know, clearly story is told, everyone's familiar with the story and it's told in the new testament, of course. if you were gonna read one of those books right now, which one for the christmas season would be a great one? >> well, matthew, mark, luke, and john, the gospels. molly: you can't pick one, huh? >> the very center of the gospels is the person of jesus. and people could ask, and i think this is really the meaning of christmas, well, why did he have to come? if you believe that he's the son of god, why did he have to come? try to picture it like this. if you are a mother or father of a lot of children -- in my family there's seven of us -- and if all of the siblings are fighting and killing each other and hating each other and what would you do as a parent? you would do anything in order to bring peace and to give them a chance to redeem themselves. and as christians, we believe that's exactly what god, our father, did. look at the world. we're fighting. we've been doing it for

using social media this morning talking about the fbi. he's not happy. here is a tweet that's actually from yesterday. he had more this morning, how the fbi deputy director and use mccabe the man in charge along with leaking james comey of the phony hillary clinton investigation including her 33,000 illegally deleted e-mails be given 700 grand for wife's campaign by clinton puppets during the investigation and also went on to talk about how mccabe is now racing the clock to retire with full benefits because of that washington post story. molly: 90 days ago he could be retired as soon as march when the benefits kick in if that is his ultimate choice. pete: this after he's sorry to cut you off. this after he spent seven and a half hours in front of two committees on capitol hill answering questions about the text messages referring to an insurance policy what did he do when overseeing the clinton investigation a lot of smoke and both republicans and democrats want to get to the bottom of was there political influence inside the top layers of the fbi.

ed: someone who knows more about this perhaps than anyone is a brand new, we're unveiling right now, fox news contributor and investigative reporter, sarah carter. first of all, what a wonderful christmas present for us to have you now in the fox family, so welcome. molly: and congratulations. >> reporter: oh, it's a wonderful christmas present for me as well merry christmas eve to all of you i'm very excited about this. ed: very quickly we ran out of time because we went to the president live we want to get to the breaking news but we also want to hear from you because you've been on this program predicting there was a shakeup at the fbi. you have democrats now saying this is about the president putting political pressure on career people. you've been suggesting in your reporting not commentary but actual reporting that there's a lot more going on break it down for out viewers so they understand why this is so important. molly: and any surprise mccabe may be leaving? >> reporter: oh, i don't think it was a surprise to me at all. we've been looking at these stories from earlier on this year all the way back into march when stories broke mccabe was under investigation for the

hatch act and questions about him filing his expenses and the fact he's possibly left out senator grassley asked for this from the justice department nearly 700,000 dollars that was donated to his wife through committees when she unsuccessful ly ran for state senate in virginia so there were a lot of issues mccabe was dealing with and then to top it off we find out he didn't recuse himself from the server case as was suggested. he recused himself a week before the presidential elections so he was highly involved in the clinton server investigation and then later, we find out peter strzok was texting to lisa page about mccabe himself saying look , you know we have an insurance policy i wonder if andy's insurance policy will work here so there is a lot of questions. the how far, how deep andrew mccabe as deputy director was involved in these investigations and whether there was any obstruction at all and believe me they are still investigating this and i think that's why we're seeing this rollout at

christmas that mccabe is moving towards retirement and that's why we see president trump tweet ing out 90 days left but remember there's still an ongoing investigation in the justice department and they're looking very closely at this. the inspector general is going to be looking at money cake, looking at james baker whose left it fro his position as general counsel of the fbi and there are many others like peter strzok, bruce ohr at the justice department and his involvement and lisa page. so there's a lot of questions here that still need to be answered. pete: the democrats ed has been saying have suggested he may be pressured out of the fbi because they've been involved in these russia probes or is he feeling the heat as you mentioned there may have been wrongdoing it's time to get out? >> reporter: i certainly think pete, he's feeling the heat. he's feeling a lot of heat. the heat isn't just coming from the inspector general but ongoing investigations within the justice department from within his own fbi. remember the fbi and i've been saying this for months now, they were polygraphing a lot of people within the fbi out of

concerns for leaks. not just within the fbi but within the justice department and i was told that right after he testified before congress just recently he didn't show up to work the next day. molly: how are things inside the fbi as the shakeup continues and these major individuals like the general counsel being reassigned as this all unfolds? >> reporter: well molly i think what we're seeing right now within the fbi there's a lot of concern. i think there's a lot of hope within fbi agents i've been talking to them both retired and current fbi who are hoping that this shaketemperature will cleanup the seventh floor of the fbi and that's those high level officials. we know the field agents are doing everything they can to continue their work and they're doing it with pride and they're very proud of their agency and they're very proud of the bureau but there was a lot of concern that over the past eight years, there was a lot of month lit it think station of the fbi and i lot of politics happening on that 7th floor they were not proud of and actually they felt inhibited from speaking about.

ed: sarah i want to drill down on something you said a moment ago about andrew mccabe not showing up for work i believe after he had done this testimony maybe he took the day off maybe he was feeling the heat but there was a report by cnn on friday suggesting and i underline the word "could" that in his testimony in private, mccabe suggested that he could back up james comey's account that the president wanted a loyalty oath. we've seen other reports suggesting wait a second, mccabe couldn't remember when he learned about the dossier all kinds of things he couldn't recall that seemed highly suspicious. what do you know about all that and is there something to him not showing up for work or something more going on here? >> reporter: well i think there's something more going on here. remember when he testified the only thing that we saw that came out that he was actually able to prove within that dossier was that carter page had gone to moscow that was it. he wasn't even able to say what he was doing in moscow in those meetings so the dossier itself, the only thing we know for certain, was that carter page

went to moscow and that's a huge issue especially for members of congress. they're saying did you use the dossier to get this, what's going on here? now as far as backing comey he wasn't in that meeting with the president as far as we know, so it wouldn't be firsthand knowledge. it would be very interesting if he had something if he does, i mean, let everybody know about it. apparently, i personally talking to the sources i've spoken with haven't seen anything to back that. that doesn't mean there isn't anything there. but it just means that there isn't anything public yet to back what he's claiming or what cnn is claiming. pete: briefly we only have about 10 seconds left here you predicted a lot of things correctly what could be coming next? >> reporter: i think we need to really watch closely the inspector general's investigation. i think the inspector general is going to reveal with the justice department quite a bit. not just including mccabe but i think others within the fbi and within the justice department. i any it's going to be surpris ing even to me. i think it goes much deeper than

>> you're good. ed: what a christmas present for us as we mentioned sarah carter is now a fox news contributor all over this fbi story. pete: first day on the job so we'll make you work over time. sarah carter, thank you for being here. it's fantastic we just got more reports that the attorney general sessions and the doj will be directing prosecutors to ask fbi agents for more information and investigation on the dormant look into the uranium one deal, so we're going to take a harder look at this. what does it mean? >> reporter: of this is incredible. remember attorney general jeff sessions said they would look into this and we saw the deputy director also said that they would be looking into this.

now this is what's very important here is that they're going to be asking the fbi agents who are involved in the uranium one case way back when they're asking them questions about the informant, about what was going on at the time, about the reasons why they chose to prosecute something one way and not the other. they're going to be looking at deputy attorney general rosenstein's involvement in the case. i think this is going to be very important. they're also going to be asking the informant questions i believe, so this is going to expand way into the new year. now remember the informant is preparing to testify before congress and he's actually really ill. i wish him a very merry christmas eve. he has leukemia. he's been undergoing chemotherapy so it's very very important that he speak, that he be able to speak to congress and share his story, and they're going to be looking at corruption. now, what we know is that in 2010, when they approved the uranium one deal, when they approved it they had already known for months beforehand there was extensive corruption

within the russian nuclear arm. they already knew there was extensive corruption within its subsidiaries so what they want to know is how did this get passed? how did the uranium one deal get passed if there was all of this corruption that was forthcoming and a lot of that coming from the informant who had spent nearly six years working with the fbi, so this is going to be these are very important questions. molly: where is this in a timeline of effort as far as the attorney general's office is concerned, is there reaching out to the fbi agents just beginning or something just kicking off and we'll see more of this in 2018? >> reporter: yeah, molly i think what they are going to do is this has been ongoing since the stories broke its been moving forward slowly. it seems like to the public but behind the scenes, people have been talking to congress, to all of the committees that have been involved, the house intelligence committee, the senate judiciary committee, the house judiciary committee so people have been talking to these different committee members and also discussing the same issues with the fbi and the justice

film directed by steven spielburg, and they're incredible in the movie i gravity 4.5 out of 5 one of the best films of the year next up is the greatest showman. a great case where you have music that is better than the overall film. the sound track is a 10 out of 10 and i listen to it all of the time and i wish the music was as good as the sound track and i gave it a three out of five, solid but not great and then finally pitch perfect 3. listen i loved the first one. the second one was okay, the third one unnecessary and a bit unforgettable i gave it a 2.5 out of 5. if you're interested my star wars review go to twitter which is kevin mccarthy tv i'll tweet out my links to that film but i didn't love star wars and i'm curious to hear what the viewers thought as well. molly: i loved star wars it was epic always epic. ed: really? molly: loved it. actually it's the first movie i've been to see since the baby was born so maybe that's part of it i was out of the housesitting in the movie theatre.

pete: well turning now to your christmas headlines. miss america's ceo and two top executives calling it quits. this after degrading e-mails about former contestants were made public. a majority of those e-mails written by ceo sam haskel. the 2013 winner was among those who were criticized and she joined dozens of former miss americas in signing a petition asking the leadership to step down. and another story, a firefighter who had to be pulled from the rubble of 9/11 on the bring of death now giving the gift of life to a total stranger 3000 miles away just in time for christmas. retired hero kevin shay donating his kidney, a california school teacher with a fatal disease. his own life hung by a thread during the 2001 terror attack suffering a broken neck. he was the only survivor from his crew. the pair connected after the surgery finding out they were both native new yorkers. what a hero then and now.

fbi deputy director andrew mccabe who spent two days getting grilled on the hill last week now reportedly set to retire as early as next year as soon as he's eligible for full benefits. pete: trish regan is host of the intelligent report on the fox business network and joins us now to react. trish: good morning merry christmas to you guys. pete: you've been following this story very closely. what are the big takeaways here? trish: what i simply do not understand is why no one in washington seems to understand conflicts of interest and this gentleman clearly had a conflict of interest because his wife received hundreds of thousands of dollars from clinton folks, people that were backing clinton for her campaign, and this it just gets to over and over again we talk about these conflicts of interest and money in washington and you can't even really have the appearance of that because just the appearance alone is not good and you just wonder how mccabe could have run that investigation into her e-mails

when, you know, his wife was benefiting. ed: robert is looking at this like is donald trump really getting a fair shake number one and was hillary clinton, did she get preferentialp treatment? trish: whether she did or she didn't, it's the appearance of it and that's just wrong. the ethics committee should have never allowed him to run that investigation period. this is why you know we talk a lot about uranium one as well as being another case of just things looking bad. how is it that bill clinton was able to get $500,000 from the russians shortly after that deal was approved for a speech? it does not look right. he shouldn't have been allowed to do that. ed: and to the clinton foundation. molly: what do you say to the people that make the argument these are investigators that can set any political bias they may have aside and do with their investigation? trish: look everyone has a little bit of bias right? we're all human beings. you can't entirely put aside your bias and even if you could the fact that your wife is
